We have classified the 14 complaints from 2004 Ford F-150 about WHEELS into the following categories.
Truck was sold with defective parts on the driver side of vehicle. steering knuckle, abs sensors, etc. having to be replaced 2 weeks after buying. repair shop said vehicle was not maintained, sold in this condition when it could've been noticed and fixed. while driving a week after purchase truck lost steering and braking functionality on the highway and had to be pulled to the side of the road.. towed to mechanic, oils not be driven
Both rear suicide doors will not open, the latch mechanism is broken and apparently cost over $700.00 to fix both. in addition i have replaced the wheel bearing on all wheels twice and now another one is going bad. it seems like i never have a period when all the bearings are good.
Front passenger side wheel broke away from truck. *tr
I own a 2004 f150. the truck came with factory steel wheels. i am the original owner the truck only has 60,000 miles. the steel wheels rusted to the point i no longer felt safe driving on the wheels. the dealer said not their problem, i called ford and was told the same thing. if you have a ford with steel wheels be sure to check for rust. call ford and ask for a recall.
Vibration at highway speeds. *tr
Shaft assembly part #8l32-3b676-b on 2004 ford f-150 needed to be replaced. mechanic told me there was a technical service bulletin (tsb) . steering wheel would stick badly especially at low speed turns and intermittently at high speed turns, as well, causing two near accidents. still having problems...one mechanic tells me it the tie rods that require replacing and another tells me lower steering shaft needs replacement. *tr
Factory chrome plated wheels on 2004 ford f150 rust prematurely causing loss of air and/or blowout. the design causes pooling of water that can not escape, causing the wheel to rust out prematurely. *tr
Driving 70mph when rear wheel came off. thought lug bolts came lose (use to working on euro cars) so went to get tire about 300 yards down other side or road. jack up truck, put tire back on, went around truck to borrow other wheels lug bolts, realized f-150 takes studs and nuts not bolts when i removed a nut not a bolt. went back to look at the holes in the rotor that looked like they took bolts and now i realize that all six bolts are completely sheared off past the rotors! there are little nubs poking out of the hub. not a fun day. *tr
Severe vibration while braking from above 40m/hr. dealer had to replace both front rotors and machined both rear rotors for warping. rotor wore off before the original braek pads. dealer says its typical but i suspect poor quality as i am a careful driver. *tr
On my 2004 f-150 super crew w/75000 miles i have had to replace front rotor 3 times because rotors are turning blue and wearing down prematurely causing bad braking, because bearings are failing and causing wobble and overheating rotors taking temper out of rotors, i have been to dealers and they say can't find problem and must be excessive braking, (not) this model rotor has built in bearing and cost over 200.00 each. now wheel is doing it again and looking at 4th set of rotors because wheel is wobbling( bearing failing again) some thing has to be done because other people are having same problem with front brakes on this model vehicle, did internet search, please let me know. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f150. the contact parked the vehicle after driving approximately 40 miles and noticed that the tire was almost flat. while he inflated the tire, he noticed air exited through a split in the rim. the dealer stated there would be nothing they could do for him. the current and failure mileages were 112,000. the consumer stated that this was the third rim purchased. updated 09/05/07 *tr
driving on 115th st and i -57 overpass in chicago & left front wheel assembly came off when the a-frame broke and went across 2 lanes of taffic . this is a 2004 ford f-150 with 59,354 miles. no warning when it happened. the vehicle slid to the railroad track and flipped sideways parallel to the tracks and rt. front side a-frame broke. there was extensive front end damage and back of cab hit bed and creased about an inch deep, buckled the bed above the wheel 3 inches. bent the frame & ins. co. said it was not totaled but has been 10 weeks plus and they are still working on it. no other vehicle involved. ford refused to look at it. the dealer would not turn in a claim on the comprhensive warranty for 72 mo or 100,00 miles. so we are stuck again-no vehicle for over 10 weeks and still not repaired. body shop is still putting parts on it. how many others has had this happen? *jb
Rims on the vehicle are splitting apart at the welds on the bead of the rim where the tire bead seats causing the rim to warp while driving. there has been three of these on this same vehicle that has split apart in the last couple of months. *jb
2004-2006 f-150/mark lt 4x4- water ingestion into the iwe (integrated wheel system) causing load scratching noise when driving. ford says they have no solution for it. *nm
Dt: the vehicle has been to the dealer 3 times. they didn't know what wrong with it. there was bad vibration , felt like a tie rod end or wheel was going to come off. they replaced all the tires, put a new rim on it, and put in a new drive shaft . this started around june 15, 2005. the vehicle was taken back to the dealers today for the fourth time. haven't contacted the manufacturer but have checked the information for the lemon law. *ak

Im sure of the exact date originally bought my truck in 2004 brand new with 60 miles on it i had it less than a week and they replaced the tires and told me it was because they were egg shaped. and this is why it shook or vibrated at 55/70 mph it went away for awhile. then i kept routine oil and tire rotations and balancing on it but the vibration kept coming back. the rear brakes were replace on the truck with less than 30,000 miles cost me a fortune which are supposed to last until 150,000. the shocks, struts, brakes, and rotors and bearings were all replaces twice now first for vibration in 2007/2008 spent thousands didn't work replaced tires and rims went away for about six month then came back again every time we rotate the tires the vibration goes away for like a day or two then comes back in 2010 i had to replace the rear brake and emergency brake and bearings and seals for a second time because they locked up in 2011 i have replaced the brakes, shocks, rotors and struts, because of vibration guess what didn't work now were looking at tires and rims again and ford tells me that my rear seals and bearings need replaced for leakage and the possible shaking is my drive shaft i bought a 30,000 truck that i have put 10,000 grand in just estimating oh and they just fixed the recall for the airbag harness and tell me the airbag light is flashing but it isn't covered in the recall and it wasn't flashing when i dropped it off. i have two fords i have a ford escape i bought at the same dealer in 2005 that they kept a revolving door for in service because of all its problems and everyone tells me it should have been replaced i will never buy another ford again now i know why people joke about the fix or repair daily. *tr
