Recently reported TIRES problems on 1999 Ford F-150

Upon returning home from work on 9/15/14, a hitch wire was noticed dragging on the ground. when i crawled under the truck to tuck it back under, i noticed the spare tire was gone and the cable that once held it in place via a retaining bracket had snapped and was frayed. the tire and bracket holding the tire were both gone. i had no knowledge of the loss until that point and am horrified at the thought of the accident or injury it could have/ may have caused, breaking free somewhere on the road while driving. *tr

Cable that holds spare tire up under the truck bed rusted at the bracket and spare tire fell out from under the truck, it was a good thing that truck was not going any faster as the spare could have bounced on the road and caused an accident. *tr

Spare tire fell out from underneath the vehicle will driving. *tr

Tire is separating on inside of sidewall. *tr

I recently had a flat tire for the first time on my 1999 ford f150. when i lowered the spare tire from its stowed position, there were eight badly worn spots on the sidewall of the tire. the wear was apparently came from the way the stowage position is designed. the degradation of the tire may make it unsafe to drive on the spare tires of f150's. *nm

Dt: the contact states there is nhtsa recall campaign 05v388000 concerning the vehicle speed control:cruise control. the parts needed for recall repairs were not available at the local dealership. he spoke to the manufacturer, who confirmed the parts were not available at this time. *ak updated 12/27/2005. the tires had excessive wear at 20000 miles. the seat belt roller has been replaced three times. the air bag control was replaced. both doors had stress fractures. the rear brake lines were not secured properly which resulted in wear . the wheel hubs came off while driving at highway speed. the driver side exterior rearview mirror was defective. *nm

Failure of front end sterring parts( ball joints, tie rods, and idler arm). on several occassions my mechanic has instructed me that i should have the front end check for wear and tear due to premature failures in these parts. this is the third time in the past 3 years (@about 20k miles per year) i have had major replacements done on these parts. i do not beleive the failure is due to driving conditions, most is at high ways speeds on reasonably smooth roads. the latest failure has me very concerned about the overall safety of the vehicle as i typical drive on the highway. my mechanic indicated if a failure occurs at highways speeds - it might not be a great outcome... i feel i am lucky in that every time i go to the mechanic (serveral times per year) i have him check these parts. i recently received an inspection in june 2004 and these parts were ok then. now (mar 2005) and i have a major replacement going on. the machanic indicated that i am not alone and the problem is very wide spread. do not get me wrong - i really like the truck and would buy another, but so far dealers (2 local) indicate that my problems are not as wide spread. hence i no longer go to ford dealers for service. the mechanic has also indicated that this issue may be larger in scope thant the firestone tire issues ford had years ago (speculation). but none the less - my mechanic has seen many of these issues and he is a small operation in a small town. at this stage i am unlikely to re-purchase a ford f150 and have major concerns over the saftey of the vehicle.

Spare tire fell off the truck due to failure of the stranded steel cable that secures the tire to the underside of the bed. *bf *tc

Our good year tires that were put on the truck are showing tread seperation.the good year manufacture told us they would have us go to the nearest good year dealer and they would pro rate the tires...why? it is their defect not ours. they would replace with good years...why? we don't want them. why should we risk going to another town 20-25 miles from here to replace these tires with possible defective ones again! for four years they have been covering up lawsuits and having silent recalls...to me...they need to replace them with what we want and where we want! it is our lives that our on the line! no airbags deployed, no one has been hurt thank god. all four tires show seperation around the rims. for all four tires to be replaced it would cost close to 800$. *ak (tiresize: sidewall e)( dot number: tire size: sidewall e )

Three tires seperated in one week seperated in same place steel through center. *ak (tiresize: p23570r16)( dot number: tire size: p23570r16 )

Sidewall blowout of properly inflated tire. fist-sized hole resulted from flap that peeled off, starting in tread area and extending into sidewall area. tires have more than half tread depth left, have never ben run against curb or scuffed, etc.( dot number: tire size: 235/70/r16 )

Spare tire was bruised while mounted under the tire assembly, underneath vehicle; dealer/manufacturer were notified. *ak consumer installed a used mud flap between truck frame and new tire under vehicle. *slc

My background includes over 10 years in transportation maintenance including tire failure analysis. while traveling 75 mph on i17n, i heard the tire tread separate from the casing. the tread was beating against the truck body. the casing deflated within seconds. i was lucky to be able to control the vehicle to the shoulder. it has been my experience that the tire manufacturers produce other private label tires for other companies. someone may want to check if the decatur plant was making any other tires for anyone. thanks for your time.( dot number: a30844l089 tire size: p235/70r16 )

The tire split on the side and blew out while driving( dot number: w208lrc328 tire size: 235/70r16 )

I bought this vehicle new in march 1999. my tires have been rotated every 5000 miles. i have not overloaded my truck or hauled anything heavy. my tires are worn all the way down to the 2/32" wear indicators and are vibrating at highway speeds and wobbling at low speeds. firestone does not want to pro-rate the tires unless i can prove that there is a manufacturing defect. if there is no manufacturing defect then i have to pay full price for new tires. i have talked to a number of people who have had the same problems as i am having with these tires. the tires are sold with a 60,000 mile treadwear warranty.( dot number: unsure tire size: p235/70r16 )

Tire seperated - looked just like recalled 15" tires( dot number: tire size: 235 75 16 )

While traveling home from vacation on interstate hwy.driving appx. 65 mph. for appx 4 hours left rear tire exploded, shredding all the way around the rim on the outer side. i went to purchase a new tire and was told that a recall was coming out on wilderness tires. i called my ford dealer and was told no decision had been made as to the tire size, type vehicle and who will relace the tires. i sent firestone an e-mail message and recieved a general reply stating only 15 in.tires were involved in the recall. i still hane not replaced the spare tire on this leased vehicle i'm sorry to say it sounds like i might have to shop at g.m... a gener. *ak (dot number: w208 tiresize: p23570r16)

Tire had a catostrophic failure in my opinion. i am familiar with tire failure analysis. i was director of maintenance of a large trailer leasing company. this tire separated and then the casing failed. i was very lucky to be able to type this. the tire was warrantied by general.*ak (tiresize: p23570r16)

While driving suddenly the tires lost pressure, the first incident the consumer had to drive on the rim before he could safely change the tire, the sidewall was bubbled in several places, the second incident the sidewall completely ruptured (goodyear wrangler ap p255/70r16). nlm

Firestone wilderness ht tires blew out 3 times. they were replaced with the same kind of tire each time. last time consumer changed to goodyear . they were the originals p235/70r16 tires. vehicle was a 1999, ford, f150. *ak *slc

Tenvoorde is not willing to replace the tire under warrenty and i talked with an attorney he said that i should get a new tire for no cost.

My 1999 ford f150 extended cab shakes when driving at speeds between 40-45 mph and occassionally at speeds greater then 80 mph. front and rear alignment nor tire balance/rotation corrects problem. another owner related this is due to a defect in the chassis due to design problems with extended cab. is their a corrective action for this vibration?

Truck was unstable with cause unknown by dealership. owner has taken vehicle in for corrective action several times, however nothing has changed. vehicle vibrates excessively when at idle with rpm gauge fluctuating up/down. *ak consumer states that the engine runs rough, oil level dropped and there was a clicking noise in which the dealer replaced the fan blade and fan clutch. rear brakes experienced grinding, dealer applied a silencer to the front and rear brake pads. consumer has experienced several problems with the a/c and heater, problems still exists. vehicle uses a lot of gas, idles rough and experiences small hesitation upon acceleration. vehicle kicks into gear. vehicle drifts to the right, while driving at higher speeds, vehicle and steering wheel vibrate. driver side rear view mirror rattles when closing door, when everything is closed there is an outside noise, dealer resealed the windshield. when turning on the lights, the clock and a/c are delayed. there is a whining noise when turning steering wheel. window control buttons stick at times, dealer replaced the window switch. *slc

On the same day the vehicle was purchased brand new, the firestone wilderness at 16" tires experiences tread separation. *slc

Pe00.020 ;was traveling about 50mph on the highway and noticed a loud noise. was able to pull over to shoulder. all four tire tread separated. he has contacted firestone. firestone#at, p23575r15. *ak
