While using the cruise control a few times....when i tap it once to disengage, my vehicle speeds up! then i have to hold the button down & gently tap on the brakes to disengage the cruise control. it's not really a big deal because i'm expecting this to happen, but there could be that one time where i might not be able to disengage the cruise control! *tt

1-severe corrosion of fuel tank straps. the rear strap is completely rusted through, resulting in the tank being held up by the front strap. the skid plate is keeping the tank from falling down. luckily i noticed this while checking the air pressure in my tires. i will be getting new straps this week to do the repair myself. i will keep the old straps. 2- brake pressure switch on master cylinder leaks. this causes the cruise control to be inoperative. brake fluid leaks out onto the wiring. this vehicle has had the repair for the recall on the wiring harness. i believe that the leaking brake pressure switch also creates a fire hazard as it could potentially cause a short in the wiring. i will also obtain and replace this part. *tr

Fords recall of f150's for defective leaking cruise control cut-out switches does not totally fix the problem by them just adding an inline fuse for the fire problem. the pressure sensitive switch is screwed into the bottom of the brake master cylinder and even if the fuse blows disabling the cruise control by removing the 12 volts going to it the brake fluid can still leak out or be forced out by brake foot pedal pressure (which is very high) thru the defective switch seal onto the super heated exhaust system causing it to catch fire, and/or enough brake fluid to leak out causing air to be sucked into the master cylinder causing brake failure, and/or enough brake fluid to leak out causing brake failure. this is a "typical" ford kludge repair to save money at people's lives expense. paying lawsuits appears to be more cost effective in fords eyes. they have pulled this crap for at least the 30+ years i can remember going back to the exploding ford pinto's. my current 1999 ford f150 is the last ford i'll ever buy, period !!!*tr

My 1998 ford f-150 xlt truck was sitting in my driveway for 12 hrs. when a fire started under the hood on the driver's side near the mastercylinder. the fire dept. was notified immediately and on site within 10 minutes. the truck is totalled by fire. i have just paid it off 2 months ago, and was planning to keep it for at least 8 more years. there was damage to my homne from the fire, and the inside of my home is still getting damaged by plastic sooty mess. i drove my truck from louisiana to west virginia the prior week. at the beginning of the trip, the cruise control malfunctioned and quit working. i planned on taking it to ford for repair after the holiday. the truck caught fire on 4th of july night before i had a chance to repair. i heard of the ford recall on the cruise control malfunction / fire after the fire. i contacted ford about this with my vin #. they are saying that my number was not in the recall, therefore i did not get a notice for recall. i think my vin # batch should be recalled. if i would have parked it in a garage, my home and family could have suffered injury / death due to this happening at 1:00 am, everyone sleeping. i am trying to get ford to own up to responsibility and make good their product. any help or lawyer working on case would be helpful to pursue this.

I turned right from a stop sign and merged into traffic. i had a car in front of me and several behind me. i floored the accelerator pedal. when i released the pedal it was stuck to the floor and did not depress. at this time i stepped on the pedal again to see if this would free it but there was not even any spring to it. i then hit my brakes once to see if this would free my accelerator pedal(as you would do if your cruise control was on/ mine was not on) to no avail. now i was about to rear end the car in front of me and there was a semi-trailer in the left lane my first reaction was to lock up my brakes. i did so and the rear tires continued to spin out of control at full throttle. the truck slid for 168' before going into a ditch on right side of road and over turning. no injury to me, just a mail box and my truck. mccandless ford dealership inspected vehicle and found no problems. ford motor co. said they were not responsible do to the mileage being over 36000 miles, and last but not least my insurance agent said they would fix the body but could not have throttle fixed because there was not a problem. everybody has wiped their hands of the issue and this vehicle will be put back on the road with the same problem of throttle sticking wide open. i have four children who ride in this truck and since i know of problem i can not drive this vehicle in this condition. this vehicle will one day take a human life or lives and my insurance co will not even pay to have another mechanic look at it. how many of us get a second opinion, even from a highly educated dr. let alone a mechanic. *ak
