Tl* the contact owns a 1999 ford f-150. the contact stated that both the air conditioner and the heater were inoperable. the contact was also unable to use the defroster system. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they advised him that the flapper that was inside the heater blower failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 136,000. the current mileage was approximately 146,000. the vin was unavailable.

The windshield leaks on this model style and the water runs down to the gem module and fuse box causing the gem module to short out and the electronics do what ever they want to. the truck will start on its own even if off or running and driving with the starter engaging. windows roll down the alarm activates radio comes on all the electronics come on at there own even when parked with the engine off and the key removed. this is a very common problem from my research to tens of thousands of these trucks. this is very dangerous due to the car can even engage the transmission as well as it can cut off while driving as it has with myself. this part is very expensive and the leak is very common. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 ford f-150. the contact stated the inside covering on the sideview mirrors was defective making it difficult to see. the dealer advised there was nothing they could other than replace the mirrors. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin information was not available. the failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 122,000.

I first noticed that my air bag dash light began blinking. i decided that it should be repaired in that i do travel quite a bit for work on heavily traveled highways here in indiana. i took the vehicle to butler ford here close to my residence and ask that the warning light on be repaired along with a ford recall #05s28 and a windshield wiper problem. when i returned for the vehicle the warning light was still blinking but the other two items had been taken care of. i was handed a bill for 126 dollars and the flashing light was not fixed. the repair bill stated "pass side air bag switch shorted. no further action was taken to repair the problem. *tr

1999 f150 wipers come on randomly while driving. *nm

We bought a used f-150 and had it checked out and it had no problems for a year. after a heavy rain, the alarm went off and on, lights flashed, door chime went off when the key was out of the ignition, etc. hayward ford in ca looked at it and said they had no idea what the problem was and since our extended warranty "just ran out," they wanted to charge us $150 to diagnose the problem. i said forget that and took it to a reputable auto electrical place. they diagnosed the problem and told us that it was indeed a leaky windshield causing the problem. they even gave us the paper that ford puts out telling mechanics what to do in the event of the leaky windshield (basically to seal the windshield with butyl sealant). i called ford back and they suddenly acknowledged the problem, but said that isn't a recall problem even though there are about 20 different makes/models of fords having this exact problem. we would have to pay for it out of pocket and if the gem was harmed, we would have to pay to have it fixed too (at a tune of $1600). i called ford directly and after getting the run around, a supervisor finally told me that there is nothing that they are willing or will do to help us out. they acknowledge it is a problem, but that there aren't enough people that have come forward to complain (yet) and there isn't a recall (yet). so, they aren't willing to do anything. i am so mad i can't see straight. i have written a complaint letter. my truck is just sitting in the driveway (tarped up to prevent rain from getting on the gem) with the battery pulled (otherwise it gets drained). so, we either pay to have it fixed or continue to watch the truck rot in the driveway. i'm seriously considering a class action suit. anyone else with this problem? *nm

Dt: the contact states there is nhtsa recall campaign 05v388000 concerning the vehicle speed control:cruise control. the parts needed for recall repairs were not available at the local dealership. he spoke to the manufacturer, who confirmed the parts were not available at this time. *ak updated 12/27/2005. the tires had excessive wear at 20000 miles. the seat belt roller has been replaced three times. the air bag control was replaced. both doors had stress fractures. the rear brake lines were not secured properly which resulted in wear . the wheel hubs came off while driving at highway speed. the driver side exterior rearview mirror was defective. *nm

Dt: the windshield wipers come on while the switch is turned off. the problem is an off and on issue. the problem started on july 20, 2005. sometimes when turning the turn signal light on it will happen, and sometimes when turning left they will come on. over the phone a dealership told the consumer that they thought it was due to the turn signal. *ak

Dt: contact states the passenger side door lock is not functioning properly. the door cannot be unlocked from the outside with the electronic control. the battery has been replaced in the remote control. contact can unlock the door with the actual key. also, there are problems with the electrical system, when the windshield wipers are turned on the radio will go off. there is an appointment schedule with a service dealer for monday, june 27, 2005.*ak

Complaint received via e-mail. i own a 1999 f150 ford. the mirrors on the doors are defective. the finish has almost all come off. it is very difficult to view out of the side mirrors. they have the signal flashers r and l in the mirrors. i have gone to the dealer, [located in thomson, ga], and asked them to replace the mirrors. they said they would not replace the mirrors, and they were not covered under the extended warranty. the service department acknowledged to me that the mirrors were defective, but said i would have to pay to have them fixed on my own at a non ford glass repair shop. they estimated the cost to be $500.00-$600.00. i had another person check at a dealer in columbia, south carolina. they said the power operating part of the side mirrors were covered under warranty, but not the glass.*ak *tc

'99 ford f-150 windshield wipers work by themselves without turning them on. this is an ongoing problem.*ak

Both exterior rearview mirrors on my 1999 f-150 lariet model have experienced black spots. the black spots make it impossible to see anything behind me. i have done research and found that delamination of mirrors occured on 1998 and 1999 f-150, f-250, expeditions, and lincoln navigator vehicles. i have had the mirrors replaced at a cost of $150.00 per mirror plus labor. i contacted ford to ask about reimbursement for the costs of replacing the mirrors and was told that since the vehicle is not under warranty that they can't do anything. ford has been very unresponsive to this issue. it appears unless a vehicle recall is required that they will not voluntarily replace the mirrors. i was told by the parts manager that the replacement mirrors have a different design than the original mirrors. i can only assume that the mirrors were redesigned after ford realized that there was a defect.*ak

dt: the contact owns a 1999 ford f-150. the contact complained about electrical problems since the cruise control stopped working in august 2004. within a month of the cruise control malfunctioning the abs sensor illuminated on the dashboard, and the heater stopped working. approximately one month ago the power door locks stopped working. when it was hot outside, the contact turned off the lights in the vehicle he had to remove the fuse. the contact stated there was a ticking noise coming from inside the fuse box. the consumer contacted the dealership, and they told him to bring the vehicle in for a diagnostic test at his expense. the manufacturer explained to the dealership that the consumer felt that the electrical problems listed above were caused by the cruise control switch. *ak the consumer has since stated the power mirrors no longer work. *jb

Windshield wipers come on randomly especially when making a left turn. *nm

My f150 p.u. has a stress crack in the curve of the door by the window. the latch is not tight enough, so the door is hard to shut. my windshield wipers turn on by themselves, the odometer light goes on & off, the seat belts do not recoil & the "door ajar" light gets stuck, eventhough all doors are reshut. engine sometimes runs rough eventhough has just had 60,000 mile check. the ford dealership wants to charge me for new part to fix odometer light $300+plus labor, $58 for door part+labor. haven't talked to them about "rough running", i'm sure they'll want more $$ to fix it too.*ak

On my 1999 ford f-150 pickup (33,000 miles), both the exterior mirrors have lost reflection and turned black. have checked repeatedly for recall since purchase, but none issued by ford. i have compensated by putting small adhesive wide-angle mirror on. however, another driver tried to use mirror and was unable to see a small child at right rear fender. *ak

The signal mirrors on my truck have been developing dark spots making it difficult to see. it appears to be a defect in the reflective surfaces. *la

Seal around rear window leaks at the corners. it does not look like it was installed correctly. windshield wipers turn on when the switch is in the off position. it is intermittent and there is not pattern as to when the wipers will turn on.*ak

The windshield wipers activate (turn-on) unexpectedly when driving and switch is in the off position. dealership says the control module is "defective" but will not warranty the repair since there is no recall. it is a definite safety issue as the distraction could arise at anytime while driving. ts

Outside mirrors are turning black at the mirror itself (backing coming off?). *la

I have a 1999 f150 lariat, 40,000 miles, bought new, with electronic side mirrors with built in arrow lights. the silver backing on both the left and right mirrors has deteriorated causing the mirrors to become opaque. this is becoming a safety hazard, especially in low light conditions.*ak

Windshield wipers come on for no aparant reason. my brother in-law has the very same problem with the windsheild wiper switch in 1998 ford f150.*ak

I have a rear sliding glass window which leaks on the right side (the fixed part of the window) when it rains. my brother has a 98 f250 with the same exact problem. is ford taking care of this?*ak

My 1999 f150 has a crack forming on the bottom rear corner of the drivers side window of the drivers door at 32000 i brought this to the attention of the dealer i bought the truck from and they would not fix it because it was out of warranty because of year . the dealer said they were fixing this problem on newer vehicles then mine but ford complaint said they never heard of such a thing and would not fix it also. i have seen this on other trucks so i know i am not alone. on a different date i had a problem with the gasket sinking it channel between the window frame and body of truck they would not fix this because it was not a ford part it was made for ford and came on the truck from the factory but dosen't carry a warranty. *jb

Ford f-150 2wd, super cab, 8 ft bed. water is leaking from the head liner in the right rear of vehicle directly above fixed panel of sliding rear window assembly. i spoke to ford customer service about the problem 2 months ago and they made it sound like it was the first time they had heard about it. i took the truck in to the dealer where i purchased it and they have indicated that the entire rear window assembly needs to be replace, at my expense. search of your service bulletin section resulted in identification of bulletin #01111 posted jan. 22, 2001 listed the following. "some vehicles may exhibit a water leak around the rear (sliding) window. *tt. how do i get ford to do the responsible thing and make this repair. *jb

Have had problems with the turn signals, brake lights, and windshield wipers on my 1999 ford f-150. on a recent trip to indiana i noticed that when the steering wheel was tilted down so that my wife could drive, the turn signals stopped working. while in indiana a man was nice enough to flag me down to let me know that my break lights were not working. i took the truck to eby ford sales (june 6, 2003) in goshen for repair. they indicated that the multifunction switch disconnected when the steering wheel was tilted down. so they lengthened the connector assembly wires and that seems to have solved the problem. on december 17, 2001, i took my truck into prince ford in douglas georgia and told them that my windshield wipers would just come on for no reason. they replaced the multifunction switch but did not lengthen the wires.according to the service department at ebby ford, this multifunction switch controls several vital functions on the truck - brake lights, turn signals, wipers, etc. *ak several things are worth noting here: first, i called and talked with price ford in georgia and asked why the multifunction switch wires were not lengthened when the switch was replaced by them the first time (december 17, 2001). they haven't even called me back. second, i called ford motor company and informed them of the problem. they said that they would note the problem but that there was no recall at this time. finally, it seems to me that there is a potential for serious crashes resulting from the fact that the switch wires on the multifunction switch assembly is not long enough and that the switch disconnects when the steering wheel is tilted down. it would be a tradgedy if just one person lost their lives because the break lights or turn signals failed due to this problem. thanks for looking into this for me.

The heater core leaked coolant. *nlm

Windshield wipers activate themselves for no apparent reason. this is distracting to the driver and could be a potential hazard. *jb

Windshield wipers come on by themselves. no apparent reason why. there are no shorts or loose wires no one can explain. back window on truck is leaking went to have fixed. they said that they have replaced a multiple of these windows do to faulty manufacturing but are still making me pay for it. i just don't understand that if they know it is a fault in the window why not recall it instead of making money off of it. *jb

The top of the rear sliding window is leaking into the cab of the truck. this leak has caused a mold and mildew problem with the rear seat and the carpet towards the back of the extended cab. the smell from the mold is at times unbearable, as well as unhealthy. *la

Consumer states that while driving and no warning the rear windshield had crack starting from the driver side bottom all the way to the top of the windshield and during rainy weather water can link into the vehicle. dealer notified. mr

Side mirrors with turn signals built into mirrors have turned black and spotty. this problem appears to only exist on the mirrors with the turn signals built into the mirror, and ford no longer sells these vehicles in the f150 this way. *nlm

Windshield wipers intermittently engage without warning.*ak jlg

Side view mirrors on left and right side of vehicle have faded and is almost impossible to look at anything in those mirrors. contacted dealer who is not willing to do anything.*ak *jg

Consumer states rear windows leak water when it rains. dealer notified. *ak

Exterior rearview mirrors on my 1999 f-150 lariat purchased new have effectively completely deteriorated to the point that they are not functional. it is apparent that this is a manufacture defect based on my and the many other complaints.

Windsheild wipers come on for no aparant reason. this is the 5th consecutive ford product (1994-1999) i have owned to have problems with the windsheild wiper switch!*ak

Drivers side door cracked at rear corner of window.ford will not repair because it is out of warranty.*ak

Purchased 1999 f150 lariat new with electronic side mirrors with built in turn signal lights. the mirrors have faded and turned spotty with dark spots. the passenger side mirror is almost impossible to see out of and the drivers side is almost as bad. within the next couple months i will not be able to see out of either side mirror. called ford and they said it wasn't a defect and i needed to bring it into a ford dealer to see if it would be covered.

Both side mirrors were "bubbled up" inside the glass (mirror with turn signal inside) to the point that you could not see out of them to safely drive the vehicle. dealer did agree to replace at "dealer cost" (over $200). the person in the body shop who replaced the mirrors said that it was a factory defect and should be replaced free. manager would not agree to do this. the new mirrors were of a totally different design to "correct previous flaws". we also own another 1999 ford f-150 that is developing the same problem with the mirrors. when contacted ford refused to take responsibility unless "the government issues a recall"*ak

Glazing material on both rear view mirrors failed. dealer replaced both rear view mirrors. two years later, both rear view mirrors failed again. *ak

Windshield wipers have an intermittent loss of wiper function. wipers sometimes come on/ go off, and stop while in process. motor seems to have some type of electrical short. consumer has to take it to dealer.*ak

I have a 1999 ford f-150 that leaks around the windshield when it rains it causes the wipers not to work the power acc stay on and the door chime rings once the key is removed from the switch. this is a common problem with this vechile and needs to be recalled. *tr

On both sides of vehicle mirrors have black spots, and consumer is unable to see.*ak

Windows scare me when they dont open. afraid that door cracks will fail more on highway. *ak

When rolling up window it pushes on door frame and produces crack on door handle, below right window lower portion of vehicle. dealership was aware of problem.*ak *jb

Protective coating of signal mirrors located on doors have deteriorated and caused mirrors to blacken. dealership has replaced both signal mirrors once already and this problem is occurring again. *aik *slc

Windshield wipers work intermittently. dealer has been contatced. please provide further details.*ak

The passenger side mirrors are delaminating, the dealer pointed out that they should be replaced, but the manufacturer declined to pay for replacement cost due to vehicle being over 36000 miles. *yh
