With an aluminum open deck design and strong steel sleeves, it features forged steel I-beam connecting rods, a forged steel crankshaft with 6-bolt main bearing caps, and CNC-machined aluminum pistons with low-friction coatings.

These pistons are designed for efficient combustion and are kept cool by strategically placed oil jets. The oil pan is made from lightweight aluminum.

Its aluminum cylinder heads house four valves per cylinder, centrally located iridium spark plugs, and two overhead camshafts. Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) fuel injectors are positioned below the intake valves, and the valve train utilizes polished solid buckets with Direct Acting Mechanical Bucket (DAMB) design.

A single primary chain drives the camshafts, which feature Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT). The driver's side intake camshaft includes an extra lobe to drive a high-pressure fuel pump for direct fuel injection, achieving fuel pressures of up to 2150 PSI.

The engine is equipped with twin parallel-mounted turbochargers, either K03 for trucks or Garrett GT15 for other applications. These variable vane high-pressure turbos deliver quick peak torque at 2500 rpm, minimizing turbo lag and offering 90% peak torque between 1550 and 5500 RPM.

Cast iron low-volume exhaust manifolds are used, followed by efficient catalytic converters. Components like the intake manifold, charge pipes, and intercooler end tanks are made from durable plastic.

The engine also features modern electronic components, including a coil-on-plug (COP) distributorless electronic ignition system, a sophisticated Bosch engine computer unit, high-precision knock sensors, IAT sensors, MAP sensors, wideband O2 sensors, and more, all contributing to its impressive performance and efficiency.
