Vehicle caught fire while parked, completely engulfed in flames

Tire tread separated. (nar) *ph while driving a piece of the passenger side rear tire tread came off the tire. the tire was replaced with the spare. next the drivers side rear tire tread separated which caused temporary loss of control. the tire damaged the rear bumper and wheel well. while doing research the consumer came across a recall notice for the tires. the consumer request reimbursement for the price of five new tires, damage and mental anguish. the vehicle transmission also had to be overhauled because it caused the vehicle to vibrate while changing gears. the ignition coil was replaced to alleviate bucking while driving at a steady speed. *nm

At least 5 different times my suv has surged and each time i take it in to the shop and they never can seem to find the problem. it usually happens at low idle speeds and you never know when it will do it.once i about went through the block busters large window. somebody is going to get hurt if ford doesnt fix this problem. also my 4 wheel drive kicks on sometimes when im setting still ,like at a red light.i have to turn it on then turn it off for i to get out of 4 wheel drive. *ak

I have two intermittent issues with my 2001 ford expedition eddie bauer. 1. on 4 occasions the vehicle has surged forward. this has happened twice at 5 mph, 50 mph, and 15 mph. the cruise control was not on. at the slower speeds i was either slowing down or coasting and the rmp rapidly increased for about 2 seconds and then slowed down.(from 1100 rpms up to 2200 rpms) at the higher speed, it felt like someone ran into the back of the vehicle. it took off for a similar time and then returned to the prior rpms. i took it to a blue oval certified dealer and was told nothing was wrong with vehicle. 2. either while stopping or accelerating, the radio volume will turn itself way up for a couple of seconds. it scares the hell out of you. this happens about once a month. the first issue is a major safety issue as i narrowly missed rear-ending a vehicle one time and a mailbox another. the second issue is more of a nuisance than a safety issue. both appear to be electrical/computer issues.*jb

Vehicle stalled while driving on highway. vehicle checked by dealer, who advised consumer that coil pack and plug on one cylinder had a short circuit and failed, causing vehicle to stall. dealer also advised consumer that this was a common occurrence.*ak

While parked on a slight decline, the vehicle shut down. at first i thought i had ran out of gas, but i remembered i had just put in $15 the day before. vehicle would not start after three (3) attempts. a gentleman suggested i let it roll down the incline, to a flat surface, and to try again. i attempted to start the vehicle again and after two (2) more attempts, it started.*ak

My ford expedition was purchased in august of 2001. by november of '01 the battery had died. to shorten the story, i hit the highlights. basically it was determined by myself and ford that if the vehicle was untouched for more than 2 weeks, the active power drain on the vehicle was substantial enough to drain the battery. after 9 instances of taking the vehicle to ford over a 3 year period, towing the vehicle in, and working with them on what was wrong, i was told that top ford engineers said it was acceptable that if a ford vehicle had a substantial power drain that it was okay if the vehicle could hold a charge for 2 weeks. basically admitting fault and telling me it was my responsibility to work around this issue by installing a battery charger. since the expedition is my 2nd vehicle i only drive it once a month or so. if i do not keep the battery charged via external charger the battery will die. one note here is that the amperage draw to ground on the vehicle at all times is enough to cause substantial sparking if the battery cables are loose or removed. this also was deemed okay by ford. this causes me enough concern that i will not park this vehicle in the garage of my home due to fear of fire. but the vehicle cost enough that i can't simply replace it. i've notified many ford dealerships and contacts including calling, emails, and written letters on this subject and they simply accept the fact that they manufacture unsafe vehicles. hopefully this form will cause statistical notification of their shortfalls. *jb

Whenever vehicle has been started and running for a minute it would suddenly cut off for no reason. at the time the vehicle would have 1/4 tank of fuel. vehicle not able to be restarted. also, all electrical systems shut down. have taken to dealer twice & mechanic could not locate cause of problem.*ak

While engine isideling, vehicle will surge foward without the drivers foot on the gas, this has occurred a total of five times. dealer has been contacted, but was unable to remedy problem at this time.*ak consumer states four times incident happened while vehicle rolling with drivers foot on brake, the fifth time was with the brake totally depressed had just come to a stop and engine surged.*jb

On 01/04/10 we had snow and rain. i drove to a store with my 2001 ford expedition and when i wanted to leave the car failed to start. i had to sit in the cold (13'weather) waiting for some one to help for almost an hour. when i took it to the dealership the following week, they slammed me with $1000 in repair costs - money i cannot afford to spent on a vehicle especially if it is the manufacturer defect, the repairman admitted that this vehicle had issues with leaky windshields that goes into the fuses box and the short out the electrical system, i did experience electric shock also when i touched the vehicle, at the time i did not think anything of this but now i fear that this electrical problem will cause sparks that can cause vehicle fires. furthermore - if you're driving and the powersteering fail due to electrical problems it will cause accidents. please look into this and help loyal ford owners to get the repairs they deserve. *tr
