While my two year old daughter and i were sitting in the vehicle (vehicle was off) a passerby knocked on the window informing me that my car was on fire. i exited the vehicle and found flames coming from under hood and below the car. come to find out there was a recall on the vehicle for a faulty speed control switch known to catch fire and even though i had recently had the car in for service at a ford dealership, it was not addressed or taken care of before this fire. totally negligent! we could have burned up in the car without any warning.

Vehicle was havin jerkin issues and check engine light was on, took to shop and it was about to blow out the spark plug, i was lucky and caught it and got it replaced but i have done research and seen that many others haven't been and that this is an ongoing issue. my next problem was acceleration, the gas pedal accelerated and cause me to crash into another vehicle and the vehicle fled the scene, there was no major injuries but 4 kids were in the vehicle and are now scared to even ride with me. mental stress is a major injury in my concern cause it hurts my heart to know my own children are scared that i wont protect them. my third problem is that just yesterday we parked on the side of the side of the road and the vehicle died and wont start, talked to mechanics and they say 01 fords have this problem, we now have a broke down vehicle and not too sure what the defect has caused more problems to be worse. due to the defect now the starter solenoid is out and we are unsure if possibly even the fuel pump. ford knows of all these complaints from other owners and has done nothing. just in my family i have 2 others that have the same vehicle and have had the same problems, why is it that ford is not doing anything about these defects that can cause major accidents and injuries??? *tr
I am having various electrical issues ranging from check engine light going on periodically with codes not stored when checked, on, dome light in the car not turn on when driver door opened, radio not working when key is in on position, dash lights go off intermittently. one night during a very heavy rain storm the alarm went off and we were unable to disable for over 30 mins. had to remove the battery for the beeping to stop. when we checked the next day, inside the vehicle was a puddle of water on the dashboard & droplets were coming from the top drivers side of the windshield. also noticed that water was streaming down from inside a handle on the frame by side of the windshield on driver side. unaware of global windshield/seal issues with ford we proceeded to have the windshield replaced. at the time we were unaware of any additional damage. shortly after while driving we began to experience various episodes of the car revving itself up, as if it was in control of its own speed, making it difficult to control the car. during these episodes of acceleration the car temperature & oil gauges registered at overheated levels & many times the dash lights would go off. in this case i pulled over and turned the car off. after a couple of minutes when i turned the car on, the car was back to normal as if nothing had happened. typically when this happened although the check engine light was lit, when i took the car in to be serviced by the dealer i was told no error codes were stored in the vehicle. this vehicle continues to self accelerate and rev up intermittently. at present i need to have the car smogged for renewal but the vehicle system readiness test register incomplete and there are no faulty codes listed. i have read that various owners experience these conditions which has been caused by water leak into the fuse box and the gem due to the windshield seal failure. *tr
Slowing for a light, truck lunged forward while placing foot on brake. repeated situation on wed 05/30/12 while sitting at a drive thru, almost hit car in front of me. *tr

Ford truck fires.. ford expedition fire due to defective cruise control switch. *tr
Leaking windshield causing different systems to act unpredictably. currently ac blower fan circuit blown (fixed 4x), cruise control dead after intermittently working (high potential of fatality if acceleration out of control). radio comes on an off. check engine light on continuously. numerous codes showing up even after deleting. this problem has been occurring for years ( at least 4 years). the windshield has to be replaced as per technician but i strongly feel that ford should just plug the leak for all the expeditions and navigators being affected by this. others have had more serious problem - windows opening and closing automatically (no user action). *tr

My 2001 ford expedition recently suffered a total loss engine fire -- according to the fire department's investigation, it was likely caused by a cruise control problem/malfunction that was due to faulty manufacturing by the ford motor company. the vehicle was turned-off and parked in the parking lot at my office at eglin air force base, florida when the fire started. after the fire, i learned that there was a recall for my ford truck because of this exact problem -- as a 20-year active duty military veteran, i was never notified by ford about this potential hazard. i thank god that this didn't occur in my garage where the truck was always parked -- my garage sits directly below the bedroom where my two young boys sleep. my expedition, which i bought new in 2001, was a total loss. it was in excellent condition until the day of the fire -- i reported the fire to my insurance company, usaa. unfortunately, ford has not provided any assistance or support after this horrible and life-threatening incident. *tr
My ford expedition 2001 is stuck in park position and the interior roof lights are dead along with everything else riding on that circuit. i called the dealer and they advise it's a defective brake release switch. i replaced the switch and that did not resolve my problem as the 5a fuse keeps popping. according to internet sources, other customers had this problem and it's affiliated with a ford recall # 05v380000 (vehicle speed control). i took the vehicle to the dealer this morning they replace the faulty component as instructed by the recall notice; however, the problem still exist. further investigation pointed out that now, the cruise control servo and plug is what is causing the short in the electrical system. when i received the recall notice a few years ago the dealer the dealers resolution was to disconnect the working cruise control and now it become problematic perhaps from having an exposed plug creating a fire hazard. ford motor company refuses to pay for the related damages resulting in a short in the electrical system thus resulting in a potential creating a fire hazard. the technician mentioned the switch was leaking and it appears my vehicle was about to catch on fire. now they insist i should come out of pocket to pay over $850 to clean up the mess resulting from their design flaw and current recall. i called ford's consumer relation & customer service line 800-392-3673, note reference # 0342422649 and spoke with representatives emily, andrea and two supervisors barbara and joel. the dealer in this case mullinax ford also called to inform them of the relative concerns to seek authorization for repair and we were both declined. this is highly disappointing and unfair to the consumer, my check was good when i purchase the vehicle and all i ask is that they stand behind the product and accept ownership. my wife and two small children ride in this vehicle daily it just disgust me how they can hide behind the phone and claim no ownership. *tr

Dt: the contact complained about several problems with vehicle. first, the accelerator pedal stuck. the dealer cleaned the throttle body which seemed to solve the problem. the vehicle would sometimes surge forward. she thought the surging was related to apparent transmission problems. she finally had the transmission rebuilt. part of the cost was covered under the extended warranty. secondly, the seat belt in the middle row did not retract correctly. the dealer could not duplicate the problem. therefore, no repairs were made to the seat belt. thirdly, the left rear door actuator had to be replaced because the power locks were not working. fourthly, the rear passenger child safety lock did not work properly. once the child safety lock was deactivated, and the door handle was raised from the inside, the child safety lock activated. the contact's husband corrected this problem by taking apart the lock and cleaning it. she had to push very hard on the exterior key pad to get it to work. the dealer did not think this was a problem since she was able to get it to work eventually. lastly, the right front power window worked intermittently. the dealer could not duplicate the problem, and no repair was made.*ak
