Problems with 2014 Ford Escape FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2014 Ford Escape starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 56 502 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2014 Ford Escape

Over the past few months my car has started to loose power and cut off randomly. i was out on december 26, 2019 and my vehicle cut off 4 times. luckily i was not in heavy traffic so i did not get into an accident. i have to restart the car each time. when i called ford motor company on december 23, 2019 to report what was happening, i was told i would have to pay $125 for a diagnostic to be ran on the vehicle and would be responsible for applicable repairs due to their being no open recalls regarding gas pressure. this alone makes the vehicle unsafe to drive on the highway.

My car was first sputtering when turning it on then the engine light came on. then it got harder to start when turning it on and was running rough. it was the vacuum purge valve. i had it replaced. now i have 112,000 miles on my car now and the same thing happened after having it replaced. the code is p1450. there are recalls on the same year and engine 4 cylinder, 2.0 turbo, ford focus but not showing as a recall for the 2014 escape. many people have the same problem in this make and year model of escape. there is obviously a problem to cause it twice.

While car is in motion our 2014 ford escape stalls. we turn the key off, turn it back in and it will sometimes run for a bit before stalling again and sometimes stall immediately. currently this has happened on city streets and parking lots. once while turning. others going straight. luckily we have not had this happen on the interstate yet.

Car will hesitate and engine will die

The vehicle intermentantly will stall instantly like it runs out of gas and than you pullover stop and put it in park and it starts right up, i took it to a mechanic and they cannot find anything wrong with it! i seen there were recalls for 2014 ford escapes with this problem of just stalling for no reason with a couple different remedies repaired by ford and i called ford motor company and they said my vin did not match for the recall. i don't understand why, if i have the exact year escape the recall was for why they will not repair or replace the part the recall states is the problem. do you have to have a accident/injuries or death due to this problem before they will do anything?

After starting ignition and car idols/driven heavy gas/emissions smell fills cabin when using heat/a/c or defrost systems. engine light sometimes goes on. car has 35,100 mi. took car to queens ny ford service center 4 hours later $400 later, changed cabin filter and sprayed fragrance on it. told must use cabin recycle air function. ford owners manual doesnt say must use and in no other car have had to must use this function. i have a case# cas24667125 and appt for 11/6/19. ford built this car tech's should know how to fix this!

Takata recall while i was driving on 95 my car started to make a whining noise and stalled out on the shoulder of 95. when trying to start the vehicle back up. you can tell the whining noise was coming from the gas tank. i took it to the ford dealership but they are telling me there is nothing wrong. it happened two more times after and since i have stopped driving it until i can find out what is wrong with it

Upon beginning. to move forward (pulling into traffic) the engine will sometimes stall(cut off) . other times it will begin to run very rough sometimes causing ithe engine to stall. although this vehicle does not seem to be part of recall # 14s30 or #14s20 the conditions are very similar to these reports.

This vehicle should have been included in a 2017 safety recall related to overheating and coolant leaks, but it was not. in february 2019, it overheated with little warning on the freeway, blowing a hole in the motor (at 62k miles). ford rejected request for assistance, so repair was done by independent mechanic (motor replaced). three months later, during freeway drive, message appeared several times stating power was being cut to keep engine from overheating (no indication engine actually was overheating). ultimately, message appeared warning to pull off the road immediately. overheated engine completely melted a bracket. mechanic identified a burnt-out sensor but could not say why it happened. i secured two dealership diagnostics. first conducted comprehensive diagnostic and concluded a waste gate was stuck open; no mention of damaged sensor. second said the degas bottle was cracked and declined to perform pressure test; no mention of damaged sensor or waste gate issue. i cannot afford all these random repairs and in any case, do not feel this car can be put into a safe condition for driving.

The car's engine will cut off, lights and electricity will stay on, but the engine will cut out while driving. acceleration is lost, and cannot start moving again until the car is put in park, turned off, and turned back on. this is while the car is in motion. this has happened at 30 mph and slower, as well as 55 mph. the car will give an engine fault or engine failure and begin jerking. this happens on the highway and city streets. the most recent time, the car began jerking after turning and could not stay on for longer than 10 seconds before shutting off. this has happened at least 6-10 times, and almost caused car accidents. multiple parts have been replaced, and the issue still happens.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. after fueling the vehicle, it failed to start. it took the contact several attempts to start the vehicle. the failure occurred intermittently and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. green hyundai (1200 s dirksen pkwy, springfield, il 62703, (217) 525-1370) diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be repaired. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 60,000.

I recently went in for my first emissions test on my vehicle to find out that the fuel vapor management valve leaked. i had noticed, prior to learning this, that after fueling i would often smell of gas from inside the vehicle and have become concerned that the failure of this system may have exposed me to harmful vapors while operating my vehicle, especially considering the other safety issues i have experienced with this vehicle.

A week after purchasing 2/21/2017. the escape starting running hot then it shut down the car acceleration . took it back because it under the factory warranty, they said the head gasket were blown and leaking coolant into the engine. mind you it only ran hot for one minute. they repaired it. a year later in february before my birthday 2/26- i say 2/19. the transmission went out, they repaired that. a recall on own coolant valve was fixed by dealer. now in the beginning of march the water pump and engine problem has come back. if fill this model of 2014 ford escape is a lemon and i should be compensated for all my inconvenience. it been nothing but a money drain and the dealership is robbing me. i took it up there to see if they could repair the problem, but they said my warranty has expired. the told me the water pump needed to be fix and it will cost $1,300 and that i have to pay that before the can look at head gasket. to much to pay and there charging a service fee which is ok but the never said anything about a storage fee. i had a trip schedule for dominican republic. she told me they left a message days after but never received it. i asked if they can wave the storage fee and i'll pay the rest but was told they can't do so. i asked to speak with the manager and was told he won't be back until monday and it friday. called corporate they were no help at all. ford motor company is the worst car company and they do not help there customers. poor customer service and no solution to a problem that they no this car is known for. i'll be taking legal action in a civil suit against ford. thank you for listening and if anyone has a solution please contact me. thank you. ( i will never think ford first- your last). they want $160.00 for storage.

Does not get advertised fuel efficiency. fuel efficiency is much lower at around 22 mpg combined. very disappointed.

The engine stalls momentarily when i try to start up after turning a corner, or when i slow down and try to accelerate again. i have tried buying higher grade gas and used extra cleaning fluids recommended. neither helped. it is frightening to press the accelerator and nothing happens immediately. this happens in city driving.

On jan 29th driving down the street and out of know where car starts stalling and then smoke and then the 💡 came on saying engine overheating..... i left up the hood the container filled ..... parked car and never got back in smoke was pouring out of the hood.... in the middle if harbson and argamino..... mr my daughter 1month old grandson and neice. ... the most scariest thing ever in my life....

My car lost power in the middle of road going 40 mph. almost got rear ended. accelerator to floor. no rpms. has happened 6 times now. it is at dealer. they are taking apart transmission. a very dangerous car i no longer want.

Vehicle looses propulsion suddenly with little to no warning. the high pressure fuel pump has been found to be the culprit. fuel rail pressure will maintain 680-2200 psi for long durations and trips before randomly dropping to 50-80 psi and stalling. this happens at low speeds such as waiting to turn left at an intersection, sitting at a stop light, or navigating a parking lot.

Car experiences total loss of acceleration while driving. this happened on highway at 40 mph. car behind us almost slammed into us.

When i put gas in the car the whole car starts to shake when i turn it back on ....i can also hear the gas pump humming

I have to put all most trip the amount of gas in my car i didn't use the much before it seems that the gas is leaving my car with out me driving it

Stalling while driving. prior to the stalling, gas cover began to loudly vibrate. upon stopping to examine location of vibration noise, i opened the gas cover and lightly opened pour spout.. excessive air pumped out. this has occurred 2 sequential days now. i see a tentative recall in 2015 for a specific date of manufacture range but nothing else regarding the fuel pump.

Fuel shutoff value

Three separate stalling without warning events while car is in motion (!) in the past week, similar to many others described on this website. ase mechanics cannot identify any reason for it; made me aware of related recalls but could not confirm cause. why is my vehicle not covered by the multiple fuel system recalls for other 2014 escapes? those recall numbers are: 14s30, 15s13, 14s20, 14s17. car is only four years old with 56,000 miles on it and is well maintained. ford corporate advises to contact dealer; dealers advise to call ford corporate. no help for a very dangerous problem. please implore ford to expand these recalls to cover affected vehicles.

Truck stalls while driving, and won't start back up. ive had it towed twice already for the same problem also had it towed to a mechanic shop where they couldn't find anything wrong with it besides saying it seemed to be a gltch inside the computer. check engine light illuminates reading code p0109. when it stalls it gives no warning and no indications that there's a problem which can lead to a dangerous situation.

2 active recalls-no timeframe of when it will be remedied. additionally, vehicle dies when put into d from r. vehicle has 52k miles, well maintained, shell fuel is used. this happens when backing up and putting into drive. vehicle was in motion.

2014 ford escape 4x2 overflow coolant tank causing coolant to leak. 230,000 cars have been repaired by ford but they will not repair mine without a $230+cost. for some unknown reason my serial number is not covered. lack of coolant leads to overheating and cracked head gasket. the car did reduce power and sound a pull over immediately warning on 2 occasions. the car has 55,000 miles.

Over the course of 1 year, vehicle in the shop 9 times for 109 days. on 7-6-2017- car would not accelerate & low power light on. 8-23-2017- vehicle overheating, goes in to limp mode, high temperature gauge goes up. 12-26-2017-towed in as car would not start. coolant leak, quick connector to heater core and bypass valve leaking. 2-27-2018- check engine light on, cylinder misfire, cylinder head high temperature, low engine coolant, coolant level sensor 3-16-18- coolant light comes on, found upper coolant hose leak , check engine light on 3-19-18- towed in- low coolant and temperature light on, no heat , vehicle shuts off. 4-4-18- coolant level low light on.water pump was leaking. 4-19-18- check engine light on. technician verified ses light on, found misfirecodes &coolant code but coolant was full, was advised to stop back in 2 weeks to check coolant. called ford certified garage at the 2 week date & was told they were too busy to bring vehicle in for a check. 5-14-2018- check engine light on--engine misfiring, removed spark plugs and colis to boresope engine, found coolant in cylinder 1, removed cylinder head for further inspection, map sensor contaminated, found cylinder head porosity, likely due to overheating .my total in repairs and towing: $4000+ in one year. feel all issues were related to recall 17v209000 regarding the engine and engine cooling, which stated if the vehicle is started and driven with an insufficient level of coolant within the system, the engine cylinder head may overheat and crack:

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. there were no warning indicators illuminated. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired. the dealer was not made aware of the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the failure was not due to a recall. the manufacturer further stated that nothing could be done. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 59,337.

My vehicles fuel intake is not functioning properly. each time i service my vehicle with gas and go to start it up, it stalls and acts as if it doesn't not want to turn over then eventually starts right up. for a while this only happened when servicing with gas but eventually led to the, "improper" cranking each and every time i would start my vehicle. it also has caused the vehicle to stall/shut off without warning (other than a screeching loud electric sounding noise from the back of the vehicle) while actually operating on the road. i've contacted my local dealer, their recall department and such after learning about a "fuel system/gasoline: delivery: fuel pump recall" called, "01/09/2015" and another before in 2014 but they keeping telling me that my vehicle isn't subjected to any of those specific recalls and i believe otherwise. when i first purchased the preowned vehicle the check engine light go on and off from time to time but i never had the funds to go and actually check it out and because i would turn stat on for such a short time and remain off for such a long period of time i did not think it was a big deal, maybe a computer issue. but for the past several months the check engine light has been on without turning off what so ever and ever since then my car has been having all the issues that i previously mentioned. i had it diagnosed and the results showed that was the issue and the only issue the vehicle holds. i am in hopes of whomever this issue may concern of will be able to help link my vehicle to the, fuel system recall as supposed. thank you and god bless!

Fuel pump has gone out in vehicle. after sitting idle for two days, it would not start to leave house. had to tow to dealership, where they informed me it's beyond the 60,000 mile warranty so i have to foot the bill for it (even though the car itself is not even four years old). car has 83,000 miles on it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while the vehicle was idling, it emitted an abnormal fuel odor without warning. courtesy ford (1636 dogwood dr se, conyers, ga) was contacted and stated that they needed ford usa's approval before any work could be completed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to speak with the service manager at the dealer. the failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

I have had 2 prior repairs made due to recalls. the doors and an engine part. the dealership just repaired a sensor on my car last week. now my car is stalling when i first start it (stationary) or feels like it's going to stall while driving at a rate of 45 mph. it only has 56k on it. i have noticed ongoing issues with the doors, but will advise the dealership since they fixed them as part of the first recall.

I was driving and my car stalled one me i pressed the gas and nothing happened. the rpms didn't move, the car wouldn't revv, the steering wheel locked up on me and i couldn't move the car out of the road.

I was leaving the grocery store. i backed out of the parking space and within seconds the car started chugging like it wanted to quit. i pressed the gas pedal but the rpms would not budge. i pulled over to the side, shut the car off, and restarted. it took a few seconds before it would start. i pulled into the lane and it did the same thing. it did this 6 more times before i could actually get it to go without stalling. i noticed the vehicles produced a few months before mine had a recall for the fuel pump. this should be extended to cover other vehicles.

Car just shut off while driving in heavy traffic withouy warning. almost hit. could not restart. had to be pushed across busy road by police to safety then towed. they tell me it's fuel pump at 86,000 miles. my vin shows not part recall.

While driving, my car just stopped without warning as if it had run out of gas. this happen three times in one day on a city street and once leaving a parking space. i took it to the dealer and was told it was the sensor that regulated the fuel injector pressure. they replaced the flp sensor. invoice 829177 at capital ford in raleigh, nc. additionally i was told there is no warning given for this problem; when it goes it goes. this is a clear safety issue and weakness with the fuel system and could have been the cause of a serious rear end collision.

With absolutely no notice, car dashboard warns engine has high temp and to pull over safely! i pulled into the nearest parking lot and popped the hood to find the car was overheating! the coolant reservoir was empty- and i noticed a slow drip near my tire. there was a very minimal amount of smoke. i called a friend to bring coolant and after allowing the system to cool down, added enough to get me home. not even three miles away, and it's already empty again. i called ford and they said there is a recall specific to this problem on 2013's but does not apply to my vehicle. this needs to be expanded asap before more fords overheat and potentially catch on fire!! there are barely 35,000 miles on the vehicle. i was driving 35 and under on city streets for not even 15 minutes when this happened.

Fuel pump sensor not working right. not letting enough air in. making the car stall when in drive.

While driving on a busy street the car stalled and would not turn over to restart. other vehicles had to swerve to avoid collision while it stalled and pushed to a safe location. once taken to the mechanic it was identified as the fuel pump being the problem. even though my vin number was not identified in the recall of other 2014 ford escape it should be looked into expanding the recall due to the possibility of danger to passengers in the vehicles.

While the vehicle was in motion, it stalled once while i was pulling in to a parking space. my food was on the brake at that time. there was plenty of gas in the tank. there were no alert lights on prior to stalling. today, while driving on a city street, the vehicle stalled as i had my foot on the accelerator. again, there was plenty of gass in the vehicle. i was safely able to pull over. the vehicle was able to start again without difficulty and no problems for the remainder of the drive home.

While my daughter was driving the car less than 10 minutes from home after just starting up for the morning in june 27, 2017 under hood started to smoke, caught on fire, an explosion sound and car burned up . car had to be put out by fire department. total loss per insurance company . this car has a engine fire recall and i was told recall work was done prior to sale of the car to me by ford dealer in may 2017. however i now find out that the actual recall part is still not available from ford and that only an inspection was done prior to sale. not an actual repair. the recall had to do with engine fires ! maybe all these cars need to be of the road.

My car completely shut off going g 60mph in the fast lane on the highway endangering me and my 2 young kids it would not restart after many attempts, , months prior i complained to dealer that my car was jerking and sometimes felt as it wasn't getting fuel. but they continue to tell me nothing is wrong with my car but since it shut off it's at the dealership and was told the fuel pump malfunctioned. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving approximately 30 minutes at 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact took the vehicle to tasca ford seekonk (200 fall river ave, seekonk, ma 02771, (800)-737-0435) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump system failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 28,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving 25 mph, a hissing noise was detected and the engine stalled. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact also smelled a horrible odor inside the vehicle when the failure occurred. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred after fueling the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning during acceleration. the vehicle was taken to crescent ford (100 old winston rd, high point, nc 27265) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump pressure sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was 41,000.

Vehicle stalls at least opportune moments, i.e. highways/roadways. drove it for 30-40 miles.shut it down for 30 minutes. start it back up, start driving, vehicle stalls within 30 seconds to one minute. restart the vehicle, it would buck and stall repeatedly. if you let it cool down, it would run for a length of time before it would act up all over again with the above mentioned steps repeated. had it in the dealership (autonation ford - bradenton fl) for almost 3 full months as they tried to find the issue, in 4 separate trips. each time they were confident that they found the problem. 1st was a lose wire on the mechanical fuel pump. not fixed. drove for 1.5 weeks. same stall issue. 2nd was a mechanical fuel pump replacement. not fixed. drove for 1.5 weeks. same stall issue. 3rd. problem couldn't be found. drove for 1.5 weeks. same stall issue. 4th was a fuel line sensor replacement. seems to work so far. these vehicles seem to have a bad issue with the fuel system with numerous recalls on a wide range of model years.

My mother owns a 2014 ford escape with the 1.6l turbocharged ecoboost engine. she notes that the fuel sensors in the car aren't injecting fuel into the engine when she accelerates from a stop, meaning the car will stick in neutral and rev until it kicks back in gear. she notes that this has happened multiple times. we had taken it to keller bros. ford which is where she purchased it, and they couldn't come up with the problem. so then we went to new holland ford, and they were able to find the problem. the guy even showed my mom how to reset the fuel sensor. but the problem came back up again. my mom, i, and her boyfriend are at the point where if sometime the car hesitates, and someone hits her, she's going to be killed. ford, you need to do something about this. i don't want my mother killed. so recall the escape 1.6l's that have the problem and come up with a solution.

Takata recall even though i no longer have the car, had them repossessed it. i made very clear when buying i wanted a car i would have no problems with. i hah just filled my tank with gas on my way to see my pain med doctor 80 miles away fuel system quit, at station, this is an in closed system not supposed to go out because my car was still in shop i missed another appointment with this dr. which resulted in me being put into withdrawals from medication, had i driven there any system had gone out i would have lost control on highway 287 towards wichita falls tx which is extremely heavy traffic. two times my life was placed in danger because of a recall i was not informed of. now ford what's me to pay for what they didn't get from auction i'm not paying for a car that nearly got me killed twice and i don't think they should put this against my credit. i'm considering suing as they cost me my doctor, through me into withdrawals which at the time was life threatening because of health, and possibly losing control on highway at 70 miles which could have cost me my life, now there is another recall about engine fires. stationary failure with far reaching consequences.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled intermittently without warning. a warning code (p0087) illuminated on the instrument panel, which indicated trouble with the fuel rail. the contact waited thirty seconds and then resumed driving. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v005000 (fuel system, gasoline). the contact also received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v643000 (latches/locks/linkages) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000. vin tool confirms parts not available. updated 04/06/17 *lj the consumer stated the manufacturer was contacted about the vehicle stalling. the manufacturer advised the vehicle was not included in a recall; therefore, no assistance was offered. updated 08/22/2017*js
