Was driving home from work on the interstate. engine began to jerk a bit then warning messages appeared on screen. pulled over to side of road. after car stopped smoke began to appear from under hood and entering cab through the vents. i opened the window to clear the smoke and looked for phone number to roadside assistance thinking it was only a belt that had melted or burned. within a few minutes i began to see flames coming from under the hood by the windshield. i exited the vehicle and a sheriff's deputy happened to be pulling in behind me after seeing my car in distress. fire department was called. within five to ten minutes the engine area of the vehicle was engulfed in flames. after a short investigation on the scene the fd believed the cause to be electrical and appeared to have begun and caused the most damage to the passenger side front corner of the engine.

It's been a year on this recall. what's the hold up? is there a trade-in program to get a car without a recall? mar 27,2017 manufacturer recall number17s09 nhtsa recall number17s09 recall statusrecall incomplete, remedy not yet available

I bought my car in february 2017. soon after purchasing this (used) i began losing engine coolant rapidly and my car would not get warm when i had the heat on. also, blue smoke would come from the exhaust. i have taken to my brother-in-law for a look-over and they said this looks like a lemon car. well, upon research, i see a recall which matches a lot of the symptoms of my cars issues, but no recall has been issued on my vin. i believe that whatever is going on with my car is a direct result of the same issue being recalled and i need this investigated as soon as possible.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving between 60-65 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that there was a fracture to the engine block, which caused the engine to overheat, misfire, and oil to leak. the contact was also informed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

February 2017, vehicle in motion, 50 mph & suddenly alarm/engine light & temp gauge went crazy, vehicle stalls out from overheating in left lane of 2 ln hwy. able to cruise to shoulder. knew it was an issue w/ radiator or coolant from the smell & warning on dash. in close proximity of store where friend works so waited 45 min to cool& vehicle did start. able to nurse it over to the parking lot that was 5min away, eng light stayed on. time of incident was 8:00 pm viewing engine under better light, coolant was critically low.purchased coolant from store where refilled reservoir, waited until he was off work, 9:20 pm, so can follow me home in case i need more assistance. arrive at my home without incident, engine light on. in following days, i monitor coolant for 2 weeks& figure its an isolated incident. engine lt remains on for 7 days. after 3wks, need to top off coolant as it drops under fill line. i purchased this vehicle @19kmi & time of incident had 35k miles. feeling it is a bit unusual to have these issues at such low mileage but im no expert, figured something that needs to be monitored reg as the temp gauge reads normal/no engine/warning light has been on since. i received in april-safety recall17s09/17v-209. i read that repair not available until late 2017& i will be notified by ford when to sched.service appt for cooling sys.upgrade. have not rcvd any further notice & have had to top off the coolant once again.letter states to "maintain proper coolant level to reduce risk of overheating that can lead to a fire" am i reducing risk only? not eliminating this risk? idid some research, leading me to this complaint. i'm financing this vehicle for $380/mth & very unhappy with this situation & am not sure of my options if there is no resolution yet. i do not want to break down in traffic again if there is a risk of repeating the initial incident, or worse.

My 2014 ford escape has a coolant leak. it has overheated at least 3 time without warning while driving on the highway. as a result my vehicle has sustained engine damage. there is a recall associated with the coolant system. i think ford should replace/ repair the engine at no charge. they don't agree.

A recall was initiated for my car for localized overheating in engine cylinder causing cylinder head to crack, and pressurized oil leaks that can result in a fire in the engine compartment. i initially brought my car in for my engine overheating where my car was giving me a warning sign to pull over and immediately turn off my car. they replaced the coolant hose. two months later the same issue occurred and they then replaced the coolant tank. fast forward one year and the issue began to happen once again. i took my car back in and the coolant tank was replaced for the second time in may of 2018. i had no issues until december of 2018 where once again the car gave me the same warning sign and once again needs the coolant hose replaced due to it leaking. they have told me i am responsible for replacing this on my own and paying for it. each time i have been driving when this issue occurs and i have to immediately pull over and turn my car off to avoid further damage as well and i cannot drive my car for numerous days while i wait for them to repair it. i want to figure out a solution moving forward because clearly this car is not being fixed even when i take it in over and over again.

Engine light keeps on and off with not a reason and when i bring the car for an oils change into the dealer they are saying that is not important and it is going off when the oil is changed. i also notice that the car is very short after the gently breakdown. the other issue is the unexpected acceleration itself, even if i do not use the accelerator pedal. this happens anywhere anyhow and when the vehicle is in motion.

December 3 2016 i was driving down the road on hwy 111 and the engine shut down. i coasted over to the shoulder of the road and put the vehicle in park. the instrument panel displayed engine failure, immediate attention required. smoke was coming from under the hood. i got out of the vehicle and raised the hood and flames started coming from the engine area and spread very quickly. i called 911 to put the fire out. cause of fire is unknown. a police report was filled out but i don't have it at this time.

My mother owns a 2014 ford escape with the 1.6l turbocharged ecoboost engine. she notes that the fuel sensors in the car aren't injecting fuel into the engine when she accelerates from a stop, meaning the car will stick in neutral and rev until it kicks back in gear. she notes that this has happened multiple times. we had taken it to keller bros. ford which is where she purchased it, and they couldn't come up with the problem. so then we went to new holland ford, and they were able to find the problem. the guy even showed my mom how to reset the fuel sensor. but the problem came back up again. my mom, i, and her boyfriend are at the point where if sometime the car hesitates, and someone hits her, she's going to be killed. ford, you need to do something about this. i don't want my mother killed. so recall the escape 1.6l's that have the problem and come up with a solution.

I drove 25 miles in traffic to pick up my kids from daycare. when i got the kids in the car to go home and the car was in motion turning left onto a busy highway turn/merge lane, all of a sudden my check engine light came on and engine temperature gauge went all the way up. i pulled over and checked my coolant. there was so much pressure when i turned the lid, i thought the coolant tank was going to explode. the temperature in my car went down and i was able to make it to a mechanic close by. they said i needed a new coolant bypass solenoid. it was replaced and the car has seemed fine. now, 1 month later, it is leaking coolant. i read about a recall for the same thing where cars caught fire but my model year is not covered under the old recall. i believe ford needs to expand the recall as i do not feel safe driving this vehicle with my two small children and the possibility of it catching on fire! i have 78000 miles on the car and was purchased 7/28/2013.

Takata recall even though i no longer have the car, had them repossessed it. i made very clear when buying i wanted a car i would have no problems with. i hah just filled my tank with gas on my way to see my pain med doctor 80 miles away fuel system quit, at station, this is an in closed system not supposed to go out because my car was still in shop i missed another appointment with this dr. which resulted in me being put into withdrawals from medication, had i driven there any system had gone out i would have lost control on highway 287 towards wichita falls tx which is extremely heavy traffic. two times my life was placed in danger because of a recall i was not informed of. now ford what's me to pay for what they didn't get from auction i'm not paying for a car that nearly got me killed twice and i don't think they should put this against my credit. i'm considering suing as they cost me my doctor, through me into withdrawals which at the time was life threatening because of health, and possibly losing control on highway at 70 miles which could have cost me my life, now there is another recall about engine fires. stationary failure with far reaching consequences.

This happened twice in less than a month. driving the ford escape at lower speeds (less than 40 mph) on a city street during morning traffic hours. suddenly heard a continuous loud sound on the rear right of car. vehicle then lost power. engine shut down. had to pull to the shoulder and restart the car. then it worked fine. the dealer could not find any error codes when i took in for service. the air conditioner was on. outside temperature was around 70f. not raining.

Please see attached pdf. it is the letter i sent to ford motor company. my complaint focuses on the engine overheating and the constant loss of engine coolant.

Traveling at highway speed, the engine lost power. pulled over to the side of the road and discovered that the air cleaner was on fire. the fire had been burning long enough for plastic to be ingested into the combustion chambers. there was no serious investigation undertaken and the cause of the fire remains unknown. additionally, ford motor company refused to fix the engine under the terms of their warranty.

My escape suffered a catastrophic engine failure while driving. the engine failure while driving on an interstate presents a clear and potential life threatening event as all power was suddenly lost. at the time of engine failure i was traveling at about 35 mph. the vehicle was towed to a local dealership for repairs. the dealership told me that the engine failure was due to the ac compressor locking up creating tension on the drive belts that resulted in sudden loss of power and engine shut down. had this occurred on a major interstate highway with semi trucks barreling upon you, the results would have been deadly. fortunately for me the failure occurred 1/2 mile before entering the interstate. i have since learned other owers of ford products have experienced the same thing. this is a serious design flaw that needs to be fixed in the interest of public safety. i purchased this vehicle new and it currently has less than 13,800 miles on the odometer.

I have an id# 10971972 that i got when i called nhtsa back in april, also filled out a form & returned to washington office in june that was mailed to me back in may - too much to explain here, i will attach a word doc with detailed issue info

Just purchased a certified pre-owned 2014 ford escape se. a yellow check engine light appear. trouble code p26b7 (dealer specific). it looks like there have been numerous issues with the bypass coolant solenoid or coolant leaks. also, steering wheel controls only occasionally work.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated the vehicle would stall after idling. the contact had to wait three minutes then the vehicle would start normally. the vehicle was driven to the dealer and they could not duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 28,000.

Car stalls. power to engine stops. engine fault light comes on. have to pull over turn engine off and restart. this has happened on hiway at speed of 75 and on road sitting at light.

I experienced on three occasions that this vehicle misfires, stumbles, shudders and almost shuts off under heavy acceleration while attempting to merge onto a highway.the last time this problem occurred i was forced to pull onto the breakdown lane and almost caused an accident due to highway traffic traveling at 70 mph and my inability to attain a suitable merging speed. i have further observed that this situation has only occurred and could be replicated during rain and high humidity. this problem is a definite safety hazard that needs to be addressed!

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle lost power due to an electrical failure. the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired where it was diagnosed that the bcm connector was disconnected. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 22,000.

In march 2015 car kept stalling while driving and while stopped. brought to dealer who diagnosed as a problem with fuel pump. after a month i got the car back with replaced fuel pump. after the fix, car would often hesitate, sputter and shake like it was about to stall. in september car kept stalling on start up. brought to dealer who said car was "fine" and operating as designed. they couldn't duplicate problem. car continues to hesitate, sputter and shake. again yesterday car stalled out 3 times at start up. don't feel safe driving it.

The car is bucking and almost stalling when i accelerate. i've taken it to two different dealers and they can't find anything. one dealer told me that this was normal, even though i found similar complaints online.
