posting date: july-29, 2018 (sunday) vehicle : 2014 ford escape titanium 4x4 (4-cylinder turbo engine, automatic transmission) vehicle loses transmission power. three weeks ago i came out of a freeway and tried to make a right turn on a fast moving local road. i made the turn and pressed the accelerator but the car would not move. the engine revved up but there was no motion. i had to immediately turn on the hazard flash lights to warn approaching vehicles behind. finally i pressed the accelerator "slowly" and the car did move and pick up speed. there were no further issues that day. i had sensed "bumpy gear shifts" and "jerky accelerations" even before the above incident. i instinctively "knew" that things were not right but did not know exactly what it was. two days ago my wife called me at work and said that after backing out from the garage, the car was not picking up speed. the "check engine" light had also come up. she somehow limped slowly back into the garage. when i returned home, i tried it too. i found that only the "rear drive" was working. the "forward drive" hardly worked. often while in "drive" mode, the car rolled backwards on our mildly sloped driveway! using "the lowest gear" i somehow put it back into the garage. yesterday i got it towed to the nearest ford dealership. being a saturday, they could not do anything more. they said they will look into it tomorrow (monday). i consider this to be a major safety issue. i am lucky that i did not lose complete power on the freeway and nothing bad has happened so far to me or my wife. reading about others' experiences on the internet on the same model year vehicle, it seems that they might have faced much more dangerous situations. please investigate this problem seriously and notify the vehicle manufacturer.
2014 ford escape 4x2 overflow coolant tank causing coolant to leak. 230,000 cars have been repaired by ford but they will not repair mine without a $230+cost. for some unknown reason my serial number is not covered. lack of coolant leads to overheating and cracked head gasket. the car did reduce power and sound a pull over immediately warning on 2 occasions. the car has 55,000 miles.

I took my car in to the dealer due to coolant being low. the coolant leaked into the engine and my gasket had to be replaced. there are several articles in which ford admits there are engine problems up to and including fire. i was able to mitigate damage by getting the car in early. the dealer called ford, i called the ford cares line and my claim was declined. this is a known problem. i have written to ford, no reply
Engine stalls. - 1.6 l. - i have taken this car to the bob tomes ford dealership in mckinney, texas for this problem at least twice since i bought it new and they told me both times that there was nothing wrong and that the engine was operating per specifications. it is still stalling and really scares me when it does. in my opinion it is unsafe. i noticed your article about the 2013 ford escapes in the dallas morning news. *tr
We advised the local ford dealer that the engine was running rough during start up but then turned normal, slight smell of anti freeze but no over heating or change in temperature gauge, had previously take the can in for the heat sensor / low coolant recall, was told to drive car to dealer. after arrival and further inspection we were advised that the engine was warped, head warped and needed a new engine. both dealer and ford and after market warranty blamed us for driving 5 miles on local roads to dealer and therefore they would not cover the problem.
I have had to replace my battery twice in this car already, it continuously shows corrosion on the battery terminals. i have been told that it appears that there is something that is constantly pulling energy but there is nothing left on and no added extras at anytime.

In jan 2018 i took the vehicle in for recall 17s09/nhtsa17v-209 to have the sensors put on. initially the dealer did not have the parts, the part were put on in feb. however after the parts were put on the vehicle had to go back because he coolant light came on about late april. the dealership was very nice at looking at and resolving the problem. then in june the light came on again and the coolant was low. no signs of leakage and i was hesitant to replace so i had the dealer check. they discovered the coolant leaking back into the engine. this was not a problem until this recall was done. i attempted to escalate this through ford cares and obviously they don't. the only response i have is - this is not related to the recall. i am a single mom, in a rental and now repairs of over 4k.

While driving the car usually going up a hill the temperature gauge quickly goes up and shows the car is overheating and all kinds of warnings sounds and visual notices go off telling me to stop the car and park safely. this has happened 3 times. the last time this happened 2 days ago i could put the car into gear but it would not engage and go forward or backward and i had to coast to a stop and pull over to the side of the road and have it towed.
While in motion on the interstate doing 75 mph my car started making a ticking sound. i wasn't sure what it was at the time but i knew it was good. while getting off the exit i noticed my breaks were going out. they were very hard to push down and it barely made my car stop. i took it to a new by place that was able to read some codes. my check engine light had come on and the codes came up as cam shaft position sensor. i replaced the sensor and it did not fix the problem. i then took my car to the ford dealership where i live. at this point it had died twice on the interstate and still made a horrible ticking sound. the dealership told me that my vacuum pump had come loose and the bolt had gotten metal in my engine which destroyed my engine. there were no warning signs when this happened and it happened very fast. my car started fine that day and drive fine up until the incident. this is a big safety concern and i've read several of people who had this same issue. i am now having to replace the engine and the turbo of my car out of pocket.
I was driving my 2014 ford escape for about 10 min. on whitney mill rrd. in ontario county new york. when i got an alert on my dash board. it said engine over heating pull over ( or something along those lines) i look down at the tempeture gage as i was pulling over. the needle was in perfect position between hot and cold. after i stooped ( about 30 seconds at t he most) i got out, open the hood and saw flames coming up in the back of the engine between the engine and firewall. i instructed my wife to get herself and the dog out of the vehicle. then i began throwing snow onto the area where the fire was coming from. in my opinion keeping the fire contained. the fire department eventually show up ( guessing 15 min.) they took over from that point. sprayed fire extinguisher on the engine and remove pieces of the engine compartment to get a better look at the fire and make sure it was out. then a tow truck came and took it away.

The car consumes coolant at a rate of about 3-4 quarts in the 5 months i've owned it. i noticed it while changing the oil. i am aware that other vins from my car's model year and engine style are eligible for a recall concerning this issue, which can cause the engine to catch fire. (recall code 17v209) i am unclear as to why my vin is not on the recall list, when it was made in the same factory, within the identified timeframe, with the same engine, and exhibiting the same dangerous problem.

I started my vehicle yesterday to warm up and about 5-10 minutes later heard a big boom, looked out the door and the front end of my escape was completely engulfed in flames. i had scheduled it to get repaired yesterday morning, but was unable to make it as we received a lot of snow and schools were cancelled and such. i had known of the recall since last year since i already was involved in another recall with the latch. i tried to get them taken care of at the same time, but the remedy was not available and wouldn't be for some time. i received a notice directly from ford between one and two weeks ago and called ziegler in elkhart to make an appointment, but they weren't available for almost a week. it is obvious the damage was already done with my car anyway, considering the description of the recall, which a whole process of the cylinder head cracking, coolant leaking out and that potentially causing a fire in the engine compartment. i am thankful that the car was just warming up in our driveway and neither my kids nor myself were inside. i am also grateful that our house didn't catch fire and just sustained some cosmetic damage due to the heat. i do not have the report from the fire department yet, but they said it would be available soon. it was the penn township fire dept that responded and i talked to durgan spinsky whose work number is 5742555075 * (recall related incident) ts

I took the car to the local ford dealer (jones west ford in reno nv) for recall 17v-209 which is related to overheating that can cause the cylinder head to crack and may result in fire. the service adviser informed me that it had a cracked head based on their expertise, low coolant and amount of hydrocarbons when tested. the only solution is a new motor. when asked about it being covered under the recall, he quickly said it was not and the repair would be $8,000.00. i reported the incident to the ford motor company for further review. during the same service visit, the tech performed recall 16s30 on all door latches. the next day i found the passenger side door window to not be operating properly. knowing that the tech had to access the repair from the inside of the door panel, i asked the dealer to take care of the window. while in the service shop for the window, the service adviser took the liberty of checking the motor again. this time he claims the "master mechanic" diagnosed it and everything is fine. they installed the part affected by the recall and this time they topped off the coolant. i suspect the reason for taking another look is based on my complaint to the motor company. i really don't know if the head is cracked or not. they didn't remove it for proper testing. based on my experience, i would say they have no intention on getting involved in such an extensive repair. the dealer even failed at the door latch. they said the window failure is a coincidence and took no responsibility. the window is still not working. i would have declined the door latch recall if i knew i would end up with a window that doesn't work. it was fine before they opened the door panel to install a new latch. i hope there is something you can do to hold the dealer and the manufacturer accountable to do the right thing per the intention of the safety recall.

My vehicle ran low on coolant on 2 instances in november 2017, with the engine temperature rising into the red zone while driving. both times i pulled over, turned the ignition off and restated, and the vehicle ran fine. i filled the coolant reservoir took to a local garage, they could not find a cause for the low coolant (no sign of leak & it passed a pressure test). their advice was to monitor the coolant level and it the problem occurred again to take the vehicle to a dealership. i experienced no further issues until the evening of jan. 7, 2018, when my engine suddenly lost acceleration after driving for only 2 miles. the main dash display showed an "engine failure" message. i braked to a stop and light smoke began venting from under the hood. i turned the ignition off, took a peek in the engine compartment and discovered a working fire underneath the engine block and a smell of oil. the local fire department & sheriff patrol responded, the fire burned for approx. 1 & 1/2 minutes and self extinguished once the engine cooled down. the bottom of the engine compartment was sprayed in oil, oil dripping onto the road. the vehicle was not drivable, would not re-start and was towed to a local garage. numerous error codes reported, the mechanic said i would need to take it to a dealership. then on jan. 11 2018 i received a recall notice from ford for 17s09 - fire hazard for the make & model of vehicle. 2014 ford escape, i purchased it used in 2015 and currently have 75,000 miles on it. my vehicle is now at a ford dealership and i am waiting for a report of what damage occurred and corrective action. recall notice, fire report & police report are attached.

It only happens when you drive the car for a while (45+ minutes), turn it off, and then start it up 15-45 minutes later. it will start but then within the first 100 yards it will go sluggish and stall. when i try to give it gas that doesn't help. i have to turn the car off, put it in park and start it back up. a few times it's stalled 3 times in a row. once it gets going good it's fine. it's always fine if it's been off for a while (first thing in the morning or starting after work). eventually the service engine light came on, i took it to a shop, a guy diagnosed it, changed out a sensor and the fuel pump. it didn't help.
