My 2014 ford escape was effected by a recall issue in november 2018, the engine overheats causing the coolant container to crack and leak. i paid $175 to replace the coolant container in june 2018. however in november 2018 my car completely turned off while driving on busy city street at stop light and smoke started coming in through the vents and the engine caught on fire. we never received notice of a recall until after this incident occured. after 30 days ford finally accepted responsibility and paid $9500 to replace the damage. the vehicle probably should have been totalled. the day i got it back from the dealership i had noticed a change in the transmission. i made the dealership aware but they said they didn't notice a difference. my transmission completely died 4 months later while driving and i have been trying to get ahold of someone from ford corporation since, it has been waiting at a different ford dealership for a month and a half ago. today we finally received a call from the ford goodwill department offering $1200 off the total cost of over $5200. unfortunately we cannot afford the $4000 and they will not pay anything of we decide to had a used transmission put in. they will not give us a phone number or email to ford legal just a fax. someone did tell us on friday they were transferring our case to legal and would call the dealership and us on monday but they did not and the person i talked to today says there is no record of us speaking to anyone friday or anything being transferred to legal. it has been impossible to get any information from anyone and we are unsure what we should do. i have a warranty from the work done in november regarding the recall issue but ford is saying this is unrelated and will not be covered, but also will not tear apart the transmission to determine the actual cause due to the labor cost unless we pay for that as well.
While driving about 45 mph on a city street, the car began to flash warning signals stating to pull over immediately. when i looked at the temperature gauge it was all the way on hot, but had not started smoking yet. the dealership stated that the head gasket failed which resulted in the overheating. the car was bought certified pre-owned from a ford dealership in 2017, and i have already had to replace the transmission, a coolant leakage problem, brand new brakes, new tires due to "wear and tear," and now this. my commute home from work takes about an hour on a highway then city street, and while on the highway the car gave no signal to the rising temperature. while on the city street i was at a red light, and once i started to drive again the car then flashed to pull over and the engine light came on. looking at the problems other ford escape 2014 car owners have had, and the recalls that occurred before my car, it seems that this engine problem is being experienced amongst others, and could be due to the coolant recall that occurred in april of 2017. personally, i bought my car in september of 2017 and was unaware of such recall.
The car's engine will cut off, lights and electricity will stay on, but the engine will cut out while driving. acceleration is lost, and cannot start moving again until the car is put in park, turned off, and turned back on. this is while the car is in motion. this has happened at 30 mph and slower, as well as 55 mph. the car will give an engine fault or engine failure and begin jerking. this happens on the highway and city streets. the most recent time, the car began jerking after turning and could not stay on for longer than 10 seconds before shutting off. this has happened at least 6-10 times, and almost caused car accidents. multiple parts have been replaced, and the issue still happens.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle overheated and stalled. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to barbee's freeway ford (4471 e evans ave, denver, co 80222) where it was diagnosed that the cooling system sensor failed and needed replacement. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling) in april of 2019. the vehicle was repaired in 2018 per an interim repair, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
I began losing coolant after taking my car in for coolant level sensor recall. i added water a few times before i decided not to drive it anymore. couldn't figure out what was happening to my 5 year old less than 50,ooo mile car. couldn't see any leak on the ground, decided to check oil, dip stick came back with water in the oil. had it towed to ford and my engine is blown, water all in th engine

My car was serviced for the coolant related recall. less than a month later the low coolant light came on and i brought the vehicle back in for service. they didn't see a leak and believed there must have been an air bubble in the system that worked itself out and added more coolant. less than a month after that the low coolant light came back on again and i brought the vehicle in to be serviced. they determined that there's an internal leak and coolant had been leaking into the engine. they have recommended replacing the engine and say that this issue is different than the coolant related recall that my car had been originally serviced for. this car is a 2014 with less than 100k miles on it. it should not need a new engine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the air conditioner and heater blew out insulation inside the vehicle through the vents. additionally, the push to start button failed to work and an abnormal noise was heard. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but no assistance was provided. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 49,000.
My car over heated while driving. so i pulled over and let it cool down. i then took it to the shop and i was told i needed a new cylinder head when asked why it over heated they refereed to the coolant system but didn't know why the coolant was getting there. after doing some research online the way they explained everything seems very similar to the recall number 17v209000 or ford recall number 17s09
A week after purchasing 2/21/2017. the escape starting running hot then it shut down the car acceleration . took it back because it under the factory warranty, they said the head gasket were blown and leaking coolant into the engine. mind you it only ran hot for one minute. they repaired it. a year later in february before my birthday 2/26- i say 2/19. the transmission went out, they repaired that. a recall on own coolant valve was fixed by dealer. now in the beginning of march the water pump and engine problem has come back. if fill this model of 2014 ford escape is a lemon and i should be compensated for all my inconvenience. it been nothing but a money drain and the dealership is robbing me. i took it up there to see if they could repair the problem, but they said my warranty has expired. the told me the water pump needed to be fix and it will cost $1,300 and that i have to pay that before the can look at head gasket. to much to pay and there charging a service fee which is ok but the never said anything about a storage fee. i had a trip schedule for dominican republic. she told me they left a message days after but never received it. i asked if they can wave the storage fee and i'll pay the rest but was told they can't do so. i asked to speak with the manager and was told he won't be back until monday and it friday. called corporate they were no help at all. ford motor company is the worst car company and they do not help there customers. poor customer service and no solution to a problem that they no this car is known for. i'll be taking legal action in a civil suit against ford. thank you for listening and if anyone has a solution please contact me. thank you. ( i will never think ford first- your last). they want $160.00 for storage.
Low coolant light appeared. had oil changed/fluids topped. a week later, coolant light appeared and check engine light came on. took it back to place that changed my oil. coolant was not low. they used a diagnostic code reader that indicated cylinder 2 had misfired 3 times (i was unaware). a few days later, took it to have checked (firestone). they used a diagnostic code that said the same thing but one of the mechanics related he had just fixed a ford escape having the same issue and that they had then figured out there was a recall for the problem. ford says my vin is not included in the recall. there has been no leak noted this entire time. the engine light went off. i drove it approximately 25 minutes, went in to a business for 2 hours, came back out and started the car, pulled out of the parking lot and saw the check engine light and a message that the engine was overheating and pull over safely (which i did immediately). there was no obvious sign that the engine was overheating (steam, odor, leaking, etc). the vehicle would only start, but would not accelerate at all. had it towed to johnson city ford which told me that they would have to drop the engine to determine the cause ($1700) and that the total repair job would cost between $3500-$7000+ depending on the cause and damage (may have to have a new motor!). he then told me it would be about 3 +weeks before they could repair it since there are 5 just like it waiting to be serviced! i questioned him about this. he related that there were 5 ford escapes with a coolant low/overheating issue currently in their shop. my vehicle was bought brand new. it is garage kept and serviced regularly. i do not understand how a vehicle that is well-kept and has under 90,000 miles can suddenly, without warning or reason, have this kind of issue? why hasn't there been a recall on this issue?

Our 2014 ford escape was recently under repair for the jan 2018 coolant recall. it was completed on mar 15, 2019. on mar 16, 2019. our vehicle had driven on the freeway for 3 hrs for a distance of 200 miles and upon exiting the freeway and stopping at a stoplight. my vehicle stopped moving and managed to get it onto a gas station parking lot.. i had it towed the nearest car dealership and they had diagnosed it and came back with the transmission and coolant being the issue. they are currently wanting to charge us a large amount of money to fox the repairs and transmission. i noticed that there is a recall for the transmission as of sept 2018. no recall message has been sent out yet. however. i believe my vehicle is affected as it would make an unusual sound from time to time when shifting from park, reverse, or drive as if it got stuck. i would love to have someone from the ford assist me with this because it doesnt make sense for me to deal with this if this has been a discovered issue. please assist me in this matter. thank you.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving 35 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the coolant level was low. the contact drove the vehicle to sam leman ford (located at 1508 morrissey dr, bloomington, il 6170, (309) 663-1331) where it was diagnosed that the coolant bypass valve needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 49,000.
Vehicle had a recall for coolant sensor fixed in 01/2018. since then coolant has run low, been checked numerous times, had hoses replaced, several diagnostic tests looking for problems, car has since overheated, and is now in need of a new engine because of coolant system problem not fixed by a sensor alerting you to a level of fluid. no leak exists so cooling fluid is working its way through the engine system some other way. the problem has persisted for nearly 7 months now. the vehicle ran emergency messages on the dash mere minutes after starting stating that the engine was overheating and to immediately exit the vehicle.

Manufacturer name : ford motor company nhtsa recall no. / mfr recall no. : 17v-209 / 17s09 recall subject : engine cylinder head may leak oil when sitting at a stop light, a message came up on my message board "service engine now". the vehicle started to shudder and then smoke came out from under my hood. i turned the vehicle off immediately, while still sitting at the light, and got out. the vehicle was inspected by a ford dealership and stated the head needed to be replaced due to a cracked cylinder head with an estimated of $3500.00. i did not receive notice of the recall referenced above. my vehicle has been "losing" coolant, which i had been refilling quite often with no visible leaks or puddles. if i had known of the recall this could have been prevented. due to an issue by the manufacturer, i am now somehow responsible to fix their problem. this has happened on many other vehicles and should be corrected by the company. i am thankful i did not have my young daughter with me at the time.
I was driving down the highway at a normal rate of speed (65), as by vehicle began to stall out. the car stopped driving right on the highway, and i was barely able to pull it to the shoulder without getting hit by other cars. once i pulled to the shoulder, the car began smoking. smoke quickly filled the inside of the vehicle. before i could roll all the windows down, the engine had burst into flames.

March of 2018 engine starting ticking, took it in for oil change and asked them to look at it. got it back the next day, they told me it was the alternator ticking and it was normal. november of 2018 took my car back in for tire, told them about the ticking again and said it wasn't the alternator, something in the engine is ticking and now it idles rough. the put new tires on it did a 60,000 mile engine performance (i only had 50,000 miles on it) february 2019, i was getting on the expressway and it started shaking, the rpm's jumped to 5 and back down to 2 them back up to 5 or 6 and the car would not maintain speed. took the car to bronde's ford, they told me i blew the engine. paid to have the short block replaced, got the car back 2 weeks later, no more ticking. drove my car for 4 weeks and on my way to work on us223, 55mph, my car started vibrating again and my engine light was flashing. i turned around, took the car back to bronde's again. they had the car for 4 weeks this time. replaced the short block and head gasket again. both times it was cylinder 4 in my engine. this time i had my car for 13 days. i was getting on the expressway 23 north and barely got going and the car did a little hesitation. i looked over at the panel and the engine light was flashing again. i pulled off the very next exit and the car was smoking so bad, i thought it was going to catch on fire. pulled off and called bronde's to send a tow truck. i could smell a sweet smell and know i blew a head gasket again. bronde's sent a car hauler and loaded it up. he turned the key and it read engine failure failure failure. in 14 1/2 weeks i have had my car in 3x for a blown engine. i am still making payments on this car and it is junk.

Takata recall. my vehicle has lost 2 tanks of antifreeze in 3 months. it is not leaking onto the ground, because there are no drips or puddles ever visible under the vehicle. other 2014 ford escapes were recalled for this same thing, which could ultimately cause a fire. my particular vehicle was not included in the recall, but is having the same issue, and dealerships won't fix it as a recall. must my vehicle catch on fire before something is done!!
Car losses all power while accelerating over 40 mph. getting on the highway is the worst. motor will rev up almost redlining before slamming into a random gear with again no power so i'm not gaining any speed. just rpms are screaming like i'm in neutral. it's very unsettling to have my car practically stopping in the highway.
Recall performed (17s09) coolant sensor upgrade. the new sensor but the vehicle in (limp mode) can not drive it even though the coolant level was in the normal operating level. the mechanic indicated that a leak in the top hose was the issue and that there was a redesign of a known issue.lucky the vehicle was parked and had to be towed back to the dealership.
Recalled 17s09 repaired, may 2018. coolant light on hot, everything locked down. vehicle stationary, remote used to start car.
On jan 29th driving down the street and out of know where car starts stalling and then smoke and then the 💡 came on saying engine overheating..... i left up the hood the container filled ..... parked car and never got back in smoke was pouring out of the hood.... in the middle if harbson and argamino..... mr my daughter 1month old grandson and neice. ... the most scariest thing ever in my life....
this car has had 13 recalls since manufactured for different mechanical and safety issues some even resulting in spontaneous eruption of fire to the engine bay. while replacing my battery the delearahip notified me of several recalls that required attention, so i had them replace each item that had been recalled, one of which was a sensor within the transmission. after i took the vehicle to have it replaced subsequently, maybe 6 months later i had driving issues while operating it on the expressway. the vehicle would go in and out of gear while driving and i could not control the speed of the vehicle. this occurred the entire drive home to the point where i had to drive with hazard lights on so that i would not get rear ended for having intermittent speed/driving issues. the car would literally over rev the the engine as if i was flooring the pedal when i wasn't even touch the gas at all. the sensor literally took control of the engine as if it was driving itself. i didn't drive it until the next morning then the next day, the only way to drive it was if i slowly transitioned speeds. i had to take the vehicle to have the same sensor replaced. after replacing the sensor it stills seems to need to be driven slower than when i first bought it or it might break again. this is a safety hazard. i'm afraid to drive the vehicle with my daughter in it due to the fact that i might have mechanical issues while driving again & be on the highway to have a high speed collision with a toddler would kill one or both of us. this model in particular has had more recalls than any car i've ever had or even heard of having. i have to continue making payments on it due to my negative equity yet it isn't reliable enough to get me to work everyday. ford needs to replace this model for all owners.
Engine fire driving on a highway the car engine stopped and i coasted to the right shoulder. i made phone calls for help and assistance. the nysdot, highway emergency local patrol (help) truck pulled after about 15-20 minutes after stopping. the help operator looked inside the engine and saw that the coolant reservoir was low and offered to put some coolant in my vehicle from a supply in his truck. then he had me run the engine in idle on the side of the road. the car seemed to run fine. in an effort to get the car off of the highway and to get some more coolant, i drove the car to the parking lot of a local store approximately 1.5 miles. when i pulled into the parking lot, the car was steaming up again so i parked it out a ways from the store. i noticed that the smoke was a bit black and thick, so i opened the hood and saw the plastic engine cover was on fire. i started throwing snow on it when someone came by with a fire extinguisher, so i used it to put the fire out. a tow truck driver took the vehicle to the closest ford dealer about 1 mile from the parking lot.
Engine stalls for no apparent reason. vehicle was stationary at traffic light. last time was saturday 1/19/2019

January 9, 2019 at 10:39pm my 2014 ford escape caught on fire. driving down interstate 81, going speed limit 70 mph, vehicle shut off and said "service engine now". steering and brakes did not lock up but the vehicle lost rpms and was not running as i pulled over to the right hand shoulder, i was in the left hand lane when my vehicle shut off. as i stopped, i put vehicle in park and turned key off, all while it said "service engine now". i turned my hazards on and got out my phone to call someone for help. as i looked up i seen flames coming from the windshield wiper area and smoke in front of my lights, i grabbed my work bag and jumped out of the vehicle, jumped across the guard rail, and immediately called 911 from a safe distance. in approximately 6-9 minutes the entire front end of my vehicle was engulfed in flames as i was on the phone with 911. took responders about 15 to 20 minutes to arrive and to put out the fire. as soon as responders finally showed, i could hear both tires explode a few minutes apart from each other. once fire was safely put out, the entire front end of my vehicle was melted and the inside as well was beyond recognizable. i was told my vehicle is totalled, obviously, and i got a tow to take vehicle to my house where the 2014 ford escape is sitting in my yard. i figured my insurance company might come look at it but they didn't because all i had was liability on it. i did not know until a couple days later there was in fact a recall on my vehicle, due to risk of engine fire.
Purge valve fail, fails to start properly after filling fuel tank.was stalling after starting and engine check light comes on. bad smell from exhaust.
Purge valve failure. purge valve was experiencing a leak and required replacment. car would shut off on road when idling. mechanic noted he has seen similar issues in other ford escapes, and even noted the part is identical to the purge valve that has been recalled on the ford focus.
My car kept shutting off on me and i took it to my dealer and they said the coolant was leaking into my cylinder head and i needed a new engine. i see on here that there are multiple recalls for this model dealing with the coolant leaking. however, the dealer called ford and was told it was not covered. my car is only 4 years old and i need a complete new engine for $9,000 dollars. i'm not sure who to complain to or how to get this handled but i don't have $9k laying around. i work two jobs as it is and i can't afford it.
My 2014 ford escape, with a 1.6l gtdi ecoboost engine, built in louisville, ky in march 2014 leaks engine coolant. i purchased this vehicle on june 6, 2014. i have put my vin into the nhtsa national recall site and it says my car is not recalled. however, ford safety recall 17s09 supplemental #1, dated december 13, 2017, and nhtsa campaign number 17v209, affecting 230,000 2014 escapes clearly states that my vehicle, manufactured in march 2014, should be in the recall since it was built in louisville between feb 13, 2013 and sept 2, 2014, the recall timeline. my car, leaking engine coolant, is exactly that described in ford safety recall 17s09. in the past 10 weeks or so i have noticed coolant on my garage floor and have filled the coolant reservoir at least 8 times. at one time the heater did not work and the reservoir was nearly empty. i am concerned about the possibility of an overheated engine causing the cylinder to crack and spew oil resulting in a possible engine fire. i currently have approximately 39,000 miles on this vehicle. if this vehicle vin is not recalled, i certainly would like a detailed answer why it is not since it meets all the parameters of safety recall 17s09 supplemental #1 and nhtsa campaign number 17v209. thank you.
My ford escape is overheating. while driving the display panel read: speed reduced to lower engine temperature. after researching i realized that this problem was part of an earlier recall. i contacted ford and was told that my vin was not included in that recall.
The vehicle stalled while driving down a rural highway. a sudden jerk was felt and then 'engine failure' appeared on the display. the car began to smoke and within seconds the engine compartment was fully engulfed. it was later learned that this vehicle had a recall related to a defect that has caused several similar cases. this recall notice was never received by us, therefore went unfixed. this vehicle has been worked on by a certified ford dealership since the recall and the recall went unnoticed there as well.
Formula ford preformed several recalls on my 2014 ford escape on october 31 2018. one recall in particular was on the coolant system in my car, it took them a couple days to preform needed recalls. a week or two after my car having the recalls done to it a coolant low service soon warning light came on my dash. i called formula ford service and was told to try an put coolant in it and see if that remedied the problem. i did and the light went out but in another week or so the light came back on i called formula ford service again to have my car looked at and they were not able to schedule me until 12/13/18 on 12/7/18 my car became inoperable. i had it towed into formula ford under my road side assistance through my insurance, after their inspection of the car i was told on monday 12/10 that it had a blown head gasket due to over heating but it had nothing to do with the recall they preformed on my coolant system, even though my car ran fine prior to bringing it to this shop.

Vehicle stalls in the middle of the drive and engine oil symbol and battery signs pop up on the dashboard. turn off the car and on again to resolve the issue. this is a safety issue with oncoming traffic. this starts occurring on my cars once the car has 60,000 miles. cannot reproduce this issue. battery and alternator are verified and they are good condition.
Coolant leak. no sensor warning light. no recall notice. message stated car was overheating while idling in a drive-thru. added coolant. several months later, same situation, different drive-thru. coolant added.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact intermittently smelled a burning odor coming from the vents inside the vehicle. while the vehicle was undergoing an inspection, the contact was informed that the check engine warning indicator was illuminated and the turbo engine was not reading the correct code, which caused the vehicle to fail inspection. the contact called herb chambers ford of braintree (located at 75 granite street rte 37, braintree, ma 021847, 781-848-1350) and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall and they were not sure if it was included in a warranty. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by the dealer. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
There was a leak from the radiator fluid into the engine block that resulted in a blown head gasket. there was no warn light suggesting that the coolant level was low, which may have prevented the problem. there has been a factory recall for this exact situation on the exact same make model and year of my vehicle, but somehow my vehicle was not included. please see attached recall letter from ford's site. this is my only car i have saved up to get and repairs of the head gasket would be $3000. however, ford will not repair it because they said they can not guarantee the repair due to the issue with the leak. they have seen this several times. they will only do a full engine rebuild or replacement for $8000 because they admit that this is a factory defect. the vehicle is currently at the shawnee mission ford (11501 shawnee mission pkwy. shawnee, ks 66203) in desperate need of a recall. this happen while driving down interstate 35 from omaha to kansas city

I have had 3 related issues so far with the engine coolant in my car - resulting now with a leak that is allowing coolant fluid onto other parts of the engine. my vehicle was running with no issues when one day it started but immediately beeped warning that the engine temp. was too hot & to safely stop the car immediately. the engine temp. gauge was in the max position, but it was a mild day & there is no way the engine would naturally have started that hot. in addition, the car wouldn't go. i could shift into drive & it would roll forward but there was no going other than rolling. i tried letting it sit & re-starting, but the same error came up, the engine shuttered/vibrated a little, & stayed in that safety mode. i had a repair shop tow it & they thought it was a bad sensor sending incorrect signals that the engine was overheating so they ordered the part & replaced it. soon after, the low coolant warning lit up, but the shop had just checked the coolant when they replaced the sensor. a few month's later now on a 22 degree morning after my car was parked all night i remote started and let it idle for a few min then got in & hit full-start, it gave me the same error message (engine was overheated) & wouldn't drive. i had to tow it to ford dealership after i googled the problem & noticed that not only there are similar complaints but also the 2013 ford escape 1.6l gtdi from tn plant was recalled for coolant leaks causing fires! i have same just 1 year newer plus other articles actually said the 2014 model was included with the recall. but, dealer told me there was no recall for mine so i have to pay to fix the problem... they're now saying engine coolant liquid was found outside the chamber on the sensors & they want to charge me $560 + $119 diagnostic fee. this is a defect that i shouldn't have to pay for (again), & is also a safety hazard. please help investigate!
