We have classified the 224 complaints from 2013 Ford Escape about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Vehicle shut off while getting on the highway traveling at about 25 mph. it would not restart, had to be towed to nearest ford dealer. failure was due to electrical harness shorting wire. there are a couple of recalls for this same issue on escapes but i am told my vehicle isn't one of the recalls, despite being the same problem
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving approximately 65 mph, the ignition key independently moved into the off position and the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
Multiple times check engine service engine fault now comes on, killing all power and steering to vehicle. stalled out in traffic, on highway, at a stop, low speed, no speed, high speed. lost all ability to accelerate or control vehicle. traction control sensor light lit up, check engine light lit up, airbag sensor lit up and yet running the check systems on it responds that all systems are normal and no active messages. previously had issue with a bad wheel sensor affecting rpm's, speed, and acceleration. it took the dealer 4 days to figure that out as no computer codes displayed. when turning the lights on manually, the sensor on the dash doesn't light up and it does not turn the lights on unless it is completely dark outside. not good for these rainy overcast mornings. the engine stalling happened in all different circumstances and traveling in inner city traffic and losing power has proven to be quite dangerous. it first happened yesterday while traveling short trip turning into parking lot. today it occurred 12 times in a span of a 25 mile trip with my granddaughter in the car. i read the ford website and ntsa ones and feel it could possibly be related to recall # 14s17 but when i run the vin number, it only shows active recall related to airbags. it has had multiple recalls since first 3 months of ownership and dealer where purchased never seems to know or have parts in order to address recall issues. the problem is that when this happens, you lose all ability to control the vehicle and there is no indication of when or where it's going to happen. we were sitting at an intersection and when the light turned green, i accelerated and it lost power and there was nowhere to get the vehicle off of the road as it was traffic all around us. i turned my hazards on and prayed we didn't get hit by the oncoming onslaught of traffic.
Vehicle powers down, leaks coolant , has rough ride, vibrates and has completely shut down atleast twice requiring a tow. engine has hot smell to it, as if it is coming from hot coolant . ford says "can't find a leak." they replaced a part on it, however i can not recall what it was because they were only guessing themselves as far as low coolant. however it did not fix it anyway. i have called ford many times, but they show no recalls to any of the problems i have mentioned. i am a single mom & nurse, i need a reliable vehicle. it is so depressing to make payments on vehicle. by the way i have no warranty. the issues occur at any time on any roads.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, however it was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.
The body control module and wiring harness has gone bad on my 2013 ford escape causing failure in the cruise control, entertainment system, 911 assist system and finally causing the original factory keys to not be recognized by the car (the car won't start with the keys). costs to repair by dealership $1,800. further, an injector went faulty a few months ago with a cost of $800 to repair.
Coolant issues, overheating and vehicle stopping completely, this occurred several times; head gasket replaced, turbo replaced, spark plugs coming out on their own, wheel bearing and sensor gone, touch screen gone
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving at approximately 5 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and there was an abnormally strong burning odor coming from the vehicle. the contact stated that the touch screen, radio, and navigation failed. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
Issues related per tsb #asi-44451 (nhtsa id #10055312) 2.0l motor lack of air conditioning on idle stuck in chicago with over heating indicator lamp on display and overheating
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving at 73 mph, the air bag warning light, traction control warning light, brake warning light, and service engine light illuminated. the contact stated that the anti-lock braking system on the front passenger side was engaged which caused the vehicle to pull to the right and crashed into a concrete pillar. the contact stated that the air bags did not deploy. the front seat passenger sustained injuries that did not require medical attention. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (electrical system); however, the vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 25,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving at 3 mph, the horn and emergency flasher independently activated and the vehicle stalled. in addition, post crash was displayed across the message board. the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to a dealer who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 46,000.
Ford is nothing but a company that is out for money. they could care a less how reliable their vehicles are or about their customer service. ford motor company should stop making vehicles and be sued. they have nothing but faults in their vehicles. in mine, there is multiple transmission problems and the cooling fan runs constantly and this should not happen. i have contacted the ford dealer that i bought the car from and they could care a less and continue to say nothing is wrong with it. my entire care basically has a seizure when it shifts and when you put it into gear and they say this is normal? these guys are a bunch of fools. than they proceed to tell me i need to spend $700 on something that wasn't going to fix my car to get more money and to make me believe that they know what they are talking about. i am extremely upset at this company. they will not issue a recall even though i have read many other reviews about people having the same problem with the same vehicle. ford is nothing but a bunch of crooked people. never buy a piece of crap ford. they do not stand behind their vehicles and could care a less about fixing an unsafe vehicle because of a fault in their end. buy a chevy or something that is more reliable and a company that has way better customer service than ford.
When starting, car shows "engine fault, service now" light. took to dealership three times, has not been resolved. recently, when braking for a stop light, engine fault reappeared and lost all power to the transmission. huge safety issue.
At start-up, there was an error message on the instrument panel about an engine fault instructing me to seek service immediately. as it was after 6 pm, and the dealer service shop was closed, i drive home. the engine was "sputtering" as if it was going to stall. the car had minimal power and didn't achieve a speed over about 25 mph. i ran a vehicle health report, which indicated a problem in the engine, transmission, or powertrain; it instructed me to have the car serviced. the next morning, there were no problems. at the dealer the following day, no problem codes came up, and the dealer wouldn't replace the etb since there isn't a recall. i believe, however, that the problem is the etb and that i'm being placed in an unnecessarily dangerous situation when the etb can fail unexpectedly. please issue a recall! *tr
Took delivery of 2013 ford escape as new car consumer purchase in august 2013. battery has been biggest issue to date. i have had dead battery on three separate occasions to date, latest being this morning (march 16, 2015). battery goes dead after as little as 48 hours of non-use. ford dealers have tested the battery twice during maintenance visits. they say the battery meets minimum test standards. i can't leave the car anywhere for 2+ days w/o disconnecting battery. google search suggests that this is not an isolated problem. this needs investigation. thank you. *tr
While traveling down the highway in plover wisconsin, smoke began to pour into the vehicle via the front vents. i looked forward and saw massive flames coming from under my hood. i quickly pulled over, shut the vehicle off and ran. i call 911, where it took 15 firemen and 500 gal of water to put out the 10ft flames (see fire report). the entire front end of my car has been destroyed along with all the contents. the fire broke through the firewall and melted underneath the dashboard. front tires exploded
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while operating the vehicle, the "engine fault" message suddenly displayed and the vehicle began to hesitate, shutter, and vibrate before reducing speed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (mahwah ford on franklin turn pike, mahwah, nj) where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to insufficient compression in the engine wiring harness. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v813000 (electrical system). the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 20,000.
On january 28, 2015 , while driving the vehicle in the city of trujillo peru . the engine stopped, the witnesses of the engine , oil and also the battery sign lit up. so i decided to take the vehicle to the authorized ford ,, where ford mechanics determined that the engine had no oil, intercooler and ducts , spark burnt with oil residue workshop. then the workshop asks me to authorize disassemble the engine to repair , the vehicle had 12.583 km long, and is within the factory warranty then , ask the college of engineering of the city of trujillo to conduct an ocular inspection. to determine the cause of the fault and the determination of the severity occurred in the vehicle , of course with the consent of ford peru , ford which he refused to perform an expert .
My car is a 2013 escape and since i took it to service and to fix one recall that was causing my car to overheat and shut off engine 1.- (recall no. 13s12) risk of localized overheating of the enginecylinder head that may lead to oil leak filters. and .some other recalls, like 2.- (recall no. 13y03 fuel line jumper), 3.-(recall no. 14so4 reprogram restrains control), and 4.-(recal no.14s03 exterior door handle) since that day ive called many times to service manager ivan regarding this. my car has been malfuntioning overheating in the freeway, and in the streets, most of the times, even when it was right out of the service, i was going on a vacation with my family, where i even had d to pay to replace engine coolant bypass valve, $330.18 dlls because my car is over 30,000 miles but not yet 3 years .and at this time they performed another recall ????? yes... this was recall no 14s21 restraints control module replacement. and now when i got my car out of horne ford nogales az. when i turn i hear a sound on the right side of my tires or brakes need a solution please help what can i do i need a solution this is not fair
The vehicle will just die when driving, it is off. very dangerous. there is a recall for the smaller engine with the same symptoms. the dealer has spoken to ford and they do not know what it is. it died on them twice. they now believe it could be a dropoff in pressure in the fuel system which makes no sense. the cat just stops running. *tr
The vehicle had been turned in to brown daub ford in nazareth, pa where it was reported to have died twice on the road. they then reported it died on them twice also. they replaced the engine fuel pump as this is the ecoboost there are two pumps (one at fueltank one at engine) and returned the car. it drove for 30 minutes and died again in an intersection where it almost caused a serious accident. the dealership wrote up the complaint as car wants to stall which is not what was said. they were told it died and was dangerous, they returned it with the same mileage as they took it in so it was not test driven. this is a very dangerous problem and will cause a death. the none turbo engine has a recall for wireharness splices not done properly and that is what this sounds like. please look into this. *tr
While slowing down for a stop light on a busy state highway, and without warning vehicle stalled. loss of electric temporarily. no collision bc vehicle behind me was able to swerve. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. when approaching a stop, the vehicle jerked forward without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the control module needed to be replaced. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v597000 (air bags, seat belts); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle went into power saving mode. the vehicle's speed reduced and the check engine warning light illuminated. the engine was shut off then restarted, and the vehicle resumed normal operation. the failure recurred multiple times intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the mat sensor was replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the transmission was shifting abnormally in and out of gears and there was a sudden increase in engine rpms. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. during a second appointment, the technician determined that the computer needed to be reset. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who repaired the throttle body, the motor, the assembly control, the assembly transmission, and the gasket. the remedy failed to repair the failure. in addition, while traveling 45 mph downhill, the vehicle stalled and caused another vehicle to crash into the contact's vehicle. the contact sustained minor injuries and did not seek medical attention. a police report was filed. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (engine). the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
Numerous faults with radio and sync system. the radio will come on by itself and will not shut off. this usually occurs when a cell phone is in use and connects or disconnects via bluetooth when the car is started or turned off. the radio will not turn off even after the engine is turned off and the doors are opened, and remain on even if i lock the car. i went inside a store not having left any radio on or anything, came out and he battery was dead. i got a jump start and the radio came on when the car started from being jumped. evidently sync turned on the radio. this has caused me to be left with a dead battery on two occasions. i am taking it to the dealer on monday, this is a saturday evening. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the front and rear doors appeared to be pushed out from the vehicle. in addition, the rear door hatch fractured and detached and the battery died. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new battery, the hatch handle needed to be soldered back on, and weather stripping needed to be added to the doors. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v495000 (electrical system), 14v597000 (air bags, seat belts), and 16v643000 (latches/locks/linkages). the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000. parts distribution disconnect.
Engine fault service now message displays on information center. dealer says to turn off car, open door, close door, count to 10, turn car back on and message is gone. message repeated 2 days later. *tr
While traveling down a highway at approximately 50 mph, our vehicle suddenly lost power, red lights came on the dashboard, vehicle continued running but gas pedal did not respond. coasted to a stop along shoulder, turned vehicle off, waited a couple of minutes, restarted without incident. 12 volt plugs remained off. called ford dealership today. they say this issue will be covered in another recall from ford, has to do with the electrical wiring harness which shorts out, however replacement part not available at this time. had we been on the freeway in seattle as we were earlier in the day, this would have caused a rear end accident for sure. we feel ford has left us with an undependable vehicle, several recalls already and now this very serious safety issue. we no longer feel we can travel safely in this vehicle even after this next recall is repaired. quality control is definitely absent, who knows what else will be recalled at this rate. *tr
My 2013 ford escape sel is equipped with an intelligent key system. this key allows the driver to unlock the car by simply touching the door handle. the system also includes a feature that prevents the doors from locking or unlocks the doors immediately if keys are left inside the car without a driver or passenger present. the car also includes a auto-locking feature that is supposed to lock all doors only when the car is in drive and begins moving above 5 mph. on three occasions, including the last (7/22/2015) this system has malfunctioned to such a degree that its behavior was the exact opposite of its intended design. on two occasions involving my wife, who naturally carries the keys in her purse. she has gotten out of the car or loaded the car from the passenger side and closed the door without locking the car manually. her keys remained in her bag on the passenger side, while she walked around the car to retrieve them or to enter the drivers side. on these occasions the car has locked itself with the keys inside as soon as she closed the door and she could not get into the car. the first time a window had to be broken to regain access, the second the door was opened by a locksmith. the last time we were at a restaurant i had a key in my shirt pocket and my wife had hers in her purse, we got out to speak with friends before we went in. when my wife turned to get her purse the doors were locked and would not unlock, i walked over to open the door there was no response from any door, pulled the key from my pocket and pressed the unlock button no response, pushed it two more times before the drivers door unlocked. all of these happened in temperatures above 97 there are two major failings occurring. if you get out of the car without the keys and close the door, it can lock itself. maybe with a child inside. ford cannot replicate this intermittent problem.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the cruise control failed to engage and disengage intermittently. the contact experienced an electrical short with the radio shorting out as well. the vehicle stalled multiple times and the contact had to make several attempts to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who replaced the wiring harness and the failure recurred. the contact noticed that the vehicle was idling rough, the cruise control was engaged and was stuck multiple times causing the vehicle to accelerate while attempting to disengage the cruise control feature. the vehicle also stalled more than five times and the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was not safe to drive and was parked at the contacts residence. the vehicle was towed by the dealer to the authorized dealer for further inspection, diagnosis and repair. the contact was waiting for a response from the authorized dealer who was checking for approval from the manufacturer to repair the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure several times. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000. dyd
Vehicle loses power (check engine, service engine, and battery lights illuminated) while driving. battery has been changed out by the dealership, but the problem continues on a daily basis. sometimes the vehicle restarts, but the majority of the time, i have to get the vehicle jumped off. i have lost power on the highway as well on busy urban streets. the dealership refuses to acknowledge that there is a serious issue. *tr
While driving the engine fault light came on. the car began to lurch when changing gears almost causing an accident. once car turned off and turned back on the fault cleared and the engine ran smooth. took the car to the ford store san leandro (ca). like the similar complaints on this website they could not find record on the car's computer and could not replicate the problem. therefore i go away very concerned about my safety and future occurrences of the same event. from this website i see lots of complaints. when will ford do something to rectify. how many people are going to have to be injured or die to get them working on resolving this issue? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle could be restarted. the failure occurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring splice kit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
The ford escape is equipped with an intelligent key system. this key allows the driver to unlock the car by simply touching the door handle. the system also includes a feature that prevents the doors from locking or unlocks the doors immediately if keys are left inside the car without a driver or passenger present. this ostensibly makes it impossible for a driver to lock their keys inside the car. the car also includes a auto-locking feature that is supposed to lock all doors only when the car is in drive and begins moving above 5 mph. on three occasions, including today (6/11/2015) this system has malfunctioned to such a degree that its behavior was the exact opposite of its intended design and it became a safety hazard. each occasion has involved my wife, who naturally carries the keys in her purse or briefcase. she has gotten out of the car and closed the door without locking the car manually. her keys remained in her bag on the passenger floorboard or seat, while she walked around the car to retrieve them or to go to retrieve our son out of his car seat in the back. on these occasions the car has locked itself with the keys inside as soon as she closed her door and she was not able to get into the car. there are two major failings occurring. the cars system is supposed to prevent the locking of the doors or immediately unlock them if the car is parked and it fails to detect a driver in the seat. the car has no functionality that auto locks the car when it is off and stationary, yet it is doing this. if you get out of the car without the keys and close the door, it will lock itself. this is a major safety issue because it has resulted in my son getting locked in the car in the heat. i was nearby, and able to come unlock the car, otherwise we would have had to smash a window. ford dealerships have been unable to replicate this intermittent problem
Vehicle towed to ford on 7/3/14 for fuel leak. also told ford that fuel range consumption gauge was not working right. ford was unable to verify fuel leak concern but did the 13s12 overheating and 14s03 handle recalls. on 7/19/14 low coolant light came on. called ford and they said that it was an air pocket in the coolant system and to add distilled water and drive it to ford. the dealership drained the coolant, added coolant and pressurized to check the system. explained to ford that our daughter was taking the car on a 500 mile road trip that afternoon. they reassured us it was fixed and that she would not have an issue, but if she did, simply add distilled water again to resolve. later on 7/19/14, after driving 150 miles of the trip, the temperature gauge rapidly jumped from normal to hot and the engine overheated. roadside assist. towed to the closest ford dealership. this new dealership said the vehicle had so many problems that they were going to have someone from ford to come look at it. the new dealership faxed us the list of what was wrong with our vehicle: leaking water pump, leaking turbo coolant tube, turbo coolant banjo bolt loose, hose clamp on turbo coolant tube not released, coolant stand pipe not bolted, engine harness taped but not secured to engine cover, coolant stand pipe harness not properly secured, battery cable rerouting not performed, foam protection not applied to coolant level module, active grill shutters not removed at all, thermostat housing bolts loose, cv boot ripped, bolts on oil deflector not tight to specs. ford says they repaired the vehicle but we told them we could not risk our lives any more with this defective vehicle. on 7/29/14 we explained everything to ford, sent them the list, got a case number and requested that ford buy back the vehicle. on 8/8/14 ford denied our request. we are too scared to pick up the vehicle. *tr
Since july 1,2014 my 2013 ford escape has stalled 3 additional times for a total of 4 times. twice in two days. the first two while standing still at a light, the last 2 while slowing down to make a turn, 2nd time 07-08-2014, 3rd 07-20-2014 and 4th today 07-22-2014. the car was taken to blue springs ford in blue springs mo on monday 07-14-2014 was informed the part had to be ordered and would be in about 7 to 10 days but wasn't informed what was wrong with my car. called blue springs ford today 07-22-2014 was informed the part needed is a o2 senor and is on back order. i'm afraid the car is going to stall while in motion and get rear ended. i was informed by the service manager it wont stall while moving but the 3rd and 4th time it did while slowing down instead of at a full stop like the first and 2nd time. i use i -70 to get back and forth to work including running errands. this is becoming a safety issue and the 2013 ford escape needs to be recalled for the replacement of the o2 senor. i'm not too happy not knowing how long its going to be to get the part in to get my car repaired. this is an accident waiting to happen. *tr
On 5/31/14, upon starting vehicle (2.0 l, sel), vehicle running rough, sputtering, lurching when accelerator was depressed, etc. message on dash screen stated "engine fault - service now". drove car approximately 8 miles to a ford dealer i was not familiar with. turned car off but then decided to move car. started car, all issues disappeared, so i left and drove car 35 miles to my home with no issues. drove car until 6/20/14 when exact symptoms happened again. drove car with symptoms occurring to local ford dealer. mechanic suspected cooing system problem, turned off engine without hooking up to computer for diagnosis. minutes later, mechanic decided problem was not cooling system related since escape was a 2.0 l (cooling system problems apparently occur with 1.6 l models), but was instead the map sensor which was replaced on 6/26/14. next day (6/27/14) after map sensor replacement, same exact issues. no time to take to a dealer, so i shut it off and restarted it and all symptoms disappeared. drove regularly until 7/16/14, when exact symptoms occurred again. drove directly to local ford dealer, left it running. they hooked up the diagnostic computer while running which showed error code related to map sensor again. explained to mechanic that my research has indicated that tsb 13-12-12 might address the problem which is related to wiring in the "signal return splices." he agreed. made appointment for next day, 7/17/14. upon starting on 7/17/14, same symptoms. turned off, restarted, symptoms cleared and i drove it with no issues to my local ford dealer. local dealer called and said they looked at the wire splices, made some "adjustments" (no new parts) and that vehicle is ready for pick up. if this occurs again, which i believe it will, i will ask for wire harness replacement to the signal return(s). dangerous, well-documented problem. *tr
my wife was pulling out of the parking lot at work when the vehicle switched to a "low power state" as described by the dealer (spitting, sputtering shaking. barely running as described by my wife) . she had get to the side of the road turn the car off then back on to turn around and pull back into the lot. i went and got the car. it ran ok. and i called ford and made an appointment to get in . (4 day wait over holiday weekend.) over the weekend it did it once more. this time leaving a service engine light on. by the time we took it to the dealer it had gone back off. they found a faulty wire harness. but since the bumper to bumper warranty is out and it's not covered by power train. it cost us $400 for the repair. *tr
I have had 2 incidents where my power steering has gone out. the first was at about 25 mph and the other about 15-20 mph. both times i got a message across my information screen that said "steering assist fault". it was really hard to steer the vehicle i was able to stop and turn off the vehicle since i wasn't on a busy street either time. when i restarted the vehicle the message went away and power steering was restored as if the computer just needed to restart. *tr
While turning at a speed of approximately 5 mph the car stalled causing the loss of power steering and power brakes. this was the third incident of the car stalling. "williamsburg ford and preowned" serviced the car today and found no fault codes. claim that they can not service the car without ford's authorization via "recall". this vehicle is potentially dangerous once a stall occurs to a driver from side or rear impact. this needs action from the nhtsa and ford. *tr
Recall 13v583 for the 1.6l eng fire was accomplished 05-12-14.i drove the escape home and noticed the lower left corner of the trip display page, the hours driven was replaced with mpg display. the numbers kept recalculating a set of numbers every second ,this continued as long as engine is running.the upper right corner of trip page also has mpg which is the normal location from day one.but now counts down in tenths as car is at idle.the dealer told me all this is part of new software. the fix should be to have the upper hand corner show mpg holding at idle and lower left corner display hours driven not another mpg calculating new numbers every second.this has been reported by other owners of the escape to dealer. *tr
After recall completed (recall notice 13s12/nhtsa recall 13v583) i was driving car home and saw lower left corner of trip display jumped erratically with wild range numbers from 99.9 to 57 or 75 or 43 something, all over the place. i pulled over to the side of the road because i was afraid of what was going on, and because it was extremely distracting and unsafe to take eyes off the road. told by service department it was not a problem. (instant fuel economy) was not a display before the recall and previous readings were more driver friendly and informative. if this is a diagnostic aid for service i understand, but it is a serious distraction when driving. *js
First occurrence was nearly three months ago. 2013 ford escape as repeatedly, with increasing frequency but randomly lost power and with the engine shutting off. car has lost engine power and with no ability to accelerate while driving speeds up to 40 mph. it has occurred while approaching a stop, sitting at a stop sign, accelerating post stop, turning left, turning right and while navigating around-about and crossing a railroad track. car will restart once i place it in park. this is an extreme safety concern. i have had several near misses and only because i have learned to respond quickly with my hazard lights. i called don hinds ford in fishers, in at the second occurrence and they failed to express the same level of concern telling me i would have to wait 4-5 days for an appointment. the frequency has increased, albeit still random and not daily it does occur multiple times a week. i made a service appointment with don hinds waiting again 4 business days on 7-8-2014. i was extremely disappointed as their report was based on their inability to not replicate the problem. the likelihood to replicate a random occurrence in a short test drive was not expected by me and i am disappointed they were foolish to think it would. the history of the last 10 starts and stops on the car's computer didn't report any error code. don hind's states that ford has no reports of any incidents and their technical support had no recommendations for the mechanic. the advice of the mechanic was to wait until it was more frequent in occurrence and able to be replicated and then bring it back. i am afraid to drive my car and to transport my children. this needs urgent attention. this poses a high risk of injury. *js
Starting in april of 2014 when the car was only 9 months old the warning light came on "get to safety" overheating engine. it went to pleasantville ford where they replaced the engine. 1 month later all the transmission fluid fell out of the care. back to pleasantville ford where they replaced a part. over the next 8 months the warning over heating "get to safety" would happen another 7 times. ford would tow the car to pleasantville ford they would fix (a sensor, fill fluid, and give me the run around) the final time i filled a complaint with bbb. they got a ford mechanic from deer born, mi to look at the car. he replaced the radiator and right axial. only for two weeks later the same "get to safety" and the car dies again.
Vehicle bucked, lurched and went into "limp mode" and would not accelerate over 40 mph on a 70 mph interstate highway (just as i was trying to enter the highway) engine service light came on and i called ford roadside to have it towed to the dealership. this was actually the second time. this had happened previously but i cannot find the date - that time, i was entering the same interstate and the car did the same thing and i "limped" the car to the dealership (only being able to drive 40 mph on a 60 mph four lane highway.) on 6/3/2014, the car did the same thing as i was attempting to enter interstate 35 (70 mph) - again - bucking, lurching and then going into the "limp mode". very scared to drive this car anywhere as i fear being hit or killed on the highways because of the cars inability to go anywhere near the speed limit. this is very much a safety issue especially for the area that i live in because all the roadways around me are at least 60 mph or higher and ford has not been able to fix this problem. the car's engine is now idling very rough, too, so there are other issues with this engine. *tr
Driving in parking lot fan speed accelerated and then engine shut off. i tried starting again 3 times and the same thing happened. i called aaa and had the car towed to hyundai dealership in reno where we purchased the car. there was a smell of burning in the engine. the dealer reported the smoke was coming from under the hood of the air compressor clutch coil is internal short cause burning smoke. they recommended replacing the air compressor. ford said my car is not included in their recall list. *tr
Ongoing list of recalls some of which do not even work its a dangerous distracting vehicle to drive endless trips to the dealers.this is not a safe and reliable car
The left light went out. went to dealer to get the light bulb changed. after an hour, they updated me that "some" electrical failure occurred and that it could take "hours" to fix. it for sure is covered under warranty, but now i am skeptical to drive this car. and this car is new, and under 3 months old with about 3500 miles. incident occurred on friday evening. took to dealer on saturday morning. was told they were out of bulb, and to wait until tuesday. took to another dealership. they were kind enough to get the needed part (bulb) by monday. took to them on monday. they put in the bulb. then realized power wasn't reaching the bulb point. so had me get it back in on tuesday. checked on tuesday, to find out it was the bcm (body control module) that was out. so had to wait another while they got the part. finally got the vehicle delivered on wednesday evening. *tr
