While traveling at approximately 20 mph, the engine seemed to drop to a "surging" idle and manual throttle control was lost. the dash, at this point, indicated the check engine "wrench" light and the rpm indicator seemed to bounce between 300 to 1000 respectively. after pulling to the side of the road, i turned the vehicle off and restarted. the vehicle then, responded normally with no trouble codes indicated on dash. code reader: p2111. this vehicle is officially used for fire response through municipal 911 services.
From a stopped position then excelling or while driving on highway without any warning my car will stall. and wrench will appear.

Car leaps forward when gas is applied from a stopped position or conversely loses power while driving. dealer acknowledged problem but no error code appeared at time of service. therefor dealer stated they could not fix the car and i should keep having system in car checked for the code to appear
My car decelerated rapidly and was unresponsive when applying the gas pedal. fortunately i was able to make it to the side of a busy interstate without incident. the car behaved as if it were going to shut down. the "wrench" indicator light was on, (check engine light). i turned off the car, and when i turned it back on the light was no longer illuminated, and the car was responding to the gas pedal. i still felt that the car was "dragging". i think it is a throttle body issue. *tr
I was driving down the road at 40 mph and the engine began making rumbling noises and the engine began to shake as if were trying to shut off, i tried to give it some gas so it wouldn't stall but when i pressed the gas pedal nothing happened. additionally, the car surges off and on while driving. when i contacted mike davidson ford where i purchased the car, they acted as if they knew nothing about it and tried to schedule me for a diagnostic test at $89 to determine the problem. that's criminal, this car should be repaired quickly and at their expense! if this happens in heavy traffic or on the interstate it will be very dangerous. *tr
Please forward to appropriate personnel, on thursday, august 14th at ~5:45pm a clear day: our mom/mother in-law had just dropped of my daughter after shopping and was making her way home thru the windy back roads less than two miles from our home. as she climbed a hill a few blocks around the corner from her home and stopped at a stop sign on the crest of the hill. the 2012 ford escaped lurched/surged forward uncontrollably. as from her description, she heard loud rumblings coming from the engine; the escape shook and launched her forward while she had her foot on the brake. the escape propelled her uncontrollably forward crashing into a large boulder, she then ricocheted across two lanes up hill, over an embankment /wall, just missing a tree, collided with another parked vehicle pushing it approximately three feet, passed that into another small wall just missing the house. we are thankful on many levels; that our daughter was not with her, that our mom was not severely injured and no one else was injured. i was researching online and there was an investigation open for this vehicle at one time. a recall is needed for this vehicle model before there is a fatality involved. we are very concerned knowing that many other family members and friends drive escape models. please feel free to contact us with any questions. we have many pictures from the scene for you to review. kind regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Two problems here. first one is an issue with the throttle body that i noticed a few years ago but i don't remember the exact date i called ford regarding this. occasionally, especially in the hottest days, when i hit the gas to get into traffic, my car doesn't speed up. it just sits there, which has put me in many dangerous positions where i end up pulling up in front of a fast moving car, but since mine fails to speed up even if i push the gas pedal all the way, those cars end up almost hitting me from behind. after about 5 seconds it finally takes off, spinning the tires and again putting myself and other drivers at risk of being hit. this happens more often when my car is on a downhill stop sign a few blocks down my street where i can only go left or right. i merge into traffic, but my car just rolls into the street with no power in the gas pedal for about 3-5 seconds. i notified ford after going online trying to figure out what is wetting with my car, and finding out that there is a known issue with certain 2012 models, including my car based on the vin #. they asked me to take my car to a dealer but said they would not be responsible four any out of pocket charges. the dealer said they needed an official letter from the manufacturer in order to not incur any fees. but neither ford or carmax ever notified me with any actual documentation, which made me weary to take my car to the dealer. the second issue is that i have noticed a gasoline smell in my car for about 2 years now, it's very random and happens about once or twice a month. i attribute it to driving past a gas station or a semitruck on the highway or just normal for cars to smell of gasoline sometimes. the smell only seems to last about 30 seconds.
Vehicle cuts out while driving - no gas pressure - engine running, pedal to floor, no rev., or excessive rev while driving. advised by ase mechanic - throttle body needs replaced. *tr
After slowing down in heavy traffic i felt a jolt or thrust forward. when i looked at the dashboard i noticed the wrench light was lit. i tried to give the car gas and it went no where. i was fortunate to be able to pull over to the shoulder and look up the light in the owner's manual. it said it was a power train/throttle body fault. after waiting 15 minutes for a tow truck i tried restarting the car and it started normally. the car drove normally the rest of the day. i brought it into the ford dealership where it was purchased the next morning. they eventually told me the throttle body had failed/shorted out and needed to be replaced which wouldn't be covered under the warranty because i was 700 miles over. after filing a case with ford and doing research, i noticed several others having the same issue. *tr
When pulling out from an intersection, i experienced intermittent power loss which resulted in vehicle loafing forward then stalling or entering safety mode low idle maneuverability with wrench light on. i was in heavy traffic and had to shut off the car, place in park then restart only to have the vehicle lurch then shut off or return to safety idle again before i was able to exit the street safely. after several attempts to restart, the check engine light came on resulting in trouble code p2111 "current" fault throttle actuator control system - stuck open and code p2112 " pending throttle actuator control system - stuck closed. *tr
The car was driving fine on the highway when suddenly it completely lost power and wouldn't stop to completion. after shutting down the car and starting it back up again, the car functioned as normal. the ford dealership mechanic said it was a malfunctioning throttle body and asked me to pay over $600 for the repair, as the vehicle was just out of warranty. i thought it was a glitch but the issue has occurred two more times in the past month. *tr
Driving down the freeway and was a pop and i had no gas at all. i had to coast off the freeway. the repair bill was over $400.00 to replace the throttle body and it is not covered in my extended warranty. *tr
This occurs sporatically - the gas will stop responding and the car will completely decelerate while i am driving. the wrench sign appears and the car is still running, but i am unable to accelerate. it usually happens while i'm driving at high speeds on the interstate. i have to pull over to the side of the road, the car sputters a bit, and if i turn off the car and turn it back on i am able to continue driving.
Note, this has occurred at varying times/dates since purchase of the vehicle in 2012, has not just occurred at the date listed. when accelerating, the vehicle will have a prolonged hesitation and even a loss in speed when switching via the automatic transmission from 2nd to 3rd gear. this occurs every time the vehicle is driven, not randomly. also, when getting up to highway speed, there is a hesitation if you touch the gas to accelerate up to the highway speed; it will hesitate a few seconds before kicking into acceleration mode. *tr
When moving forward from a dead stop at an intersection of a busy highway, the automobile engine hesitates or semi stalls and will not pick up normal speed in order to get out of the way of approaching,on coming and following vehicles. at several different times we were almost rear-ended by vehicles behind us, or hit from the driver's side or front passengers side of the vehicle because of the engine's hesitation when crossing intersections or major highways. i took the vehicle to a ford dealer and was told that "no problem" was found, but the problem still exists. i guess when a death or serious injury occurs something will be done! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford escape. while driving various speeds, a strong fuel odor emitted from the vents throughout the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the technician could not determine the cause of the failure and confirmed that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v777000 (fuel system, gasoline). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to get a second opinion since the first dealer was unable to detect the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Car sometimes acts as if it is between gears when you excelerate. release the gas pedal and press again and it lurches forward. this has happened several times since i bought the car. i believe the transmission has been reprogramed once shortly after getting the car. nothing else has been done.
Sometimes when you step on the gas the car won't go. and then lurches forward. this is a problem that the dealer has not been able to duplicate. *tr
When driving the car would completely shut off, the check engine light would come on, and i lost control of steering and acceleration. i had to try to get over to the side of the road. the car would usually turn back on. i had to take it back into the ford dealership 4 times for them to figure out what was wrong with it, as they thought they had fixed it each time.
Vehicle stalls intermittently when driving at various freeway speeds. pressing all the way down on the gas pedal the vehicle recovers acceleration. the vehicle was checked by an authorized dealer at 325 mi. on the odometer and "no vehicle problem found". vehicle has experienced eight freeway incidents of stalls in 3908 mi.on the odometer, the stalls have occurred at different speeds or vehicle maneuvers. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford escape. the contact stated that the fuel cap was missing from the vehicle. when the contact would refuel, he could smell an overpowering gasoline fuel odor being emitted from the vehicle by the time he reached his destination. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they advised that the newer ford escape models were being manufactured without a fuel cap. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 75. the vin was unavailable.
Vehicle fell on its face while cruise was set at seventy, several mechanics are dumbfounded! !! *tr
