Since january, vehicle would randomly stall with no warning. first alerted when pressing on the gas and vehicle kept slowing down then engine, battery, oil lights lit up. i placed the vehicle in park and restarted. noticed when it happens randomly since, that the rpm drop quickly below 1. has been in ford services department 3 times within the past 2-3 weeks. they changed filter, cleaned carbon build-up. second time at ford, they changed the throttle body. the last time stall occurred was on dc beltway during rush hour traffic in fast moving traffic - panic experience! it was towed to ford, kept 4 days - drove around claimed could not find anything. they want me to take the vehicle back. i am in fear causing an accident, injuring myself, passengers including my grandchildren, and other drivers with their passengers. this vehicle is wonder as far as comfort and gas mileage but is a risk to safety. not worth keeping and should be label a lemon if they can't fix. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the engine stalled and all the warning lights illuminated. the contact also stated there was smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. the contact opened the hood and noticed that a fire had erupted. a police report was filed and the vehicle was towed to an impound lot. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
Truck jumps and jerks at initial acceleration. problem does not happen all the time. when it does, wrench light comes on and sometimes check engine comes on. if i stop, turn vehicle off, and restart it, the wrench light goes off. problem does not happen all the time. one time i did have serious slow down mode happen. i was traveling about 50 mph, lights came on and truck slowed way down. jerking and jumping at start up is not safe i think. problem sounds like ford csp 13n03 to me. i am calling dealer today for appt. thank you *tr
Vehicle stalls, lunges, and surges with loss of power while driving. this issue is well documented on 2011 ford escapes with countless similar experiences posted online. problem happens unpredictability so when taken to the dealership they were aware of the issue but would not replace the culprit part, the throttle body, without a check engine light lit or the vehicle reproducing the problem in the limited time they had the vehicle.
Like many other reports i have read the vehicle ceased to respond on 11/24/2014. the engine was still running (rough), the wrench light came on i was unable to get any power when pushing the gas pedal. turned it off and restarted (sluggish) but then like nothing happened made it to my destination. happened again 11/30/2014 this time i was traveling at 35mph. pulled over and restarted and then it happened again about a mile further down the road. this time after shutting it off and restarting the check engine light came on and stayed on. why is this not a recall issue? all other post have mentioned throttle body. its a major safety issue if i was on the highway or in heavy traffic it could of ended in a serious or fatal situation. *tr
I was driving on a regular street in my area at the rate of 35. the speed limit is 40, so i decided to increase my speed to that of the speed limit. when i proceeded to accelerate, it appeared that the engine was just spinning, but not accelerating, when all of a sudden, it just lunged forward, not once, but twice. this was quite frightening as i had no advanced warning this was going to happen. after that incident, it appeared to be driving normal, until it happened again about a week later. i am afraid whenever i get behind the wheel now, but it is the only vehicle i own and i use it to get back and forth to work, so i am proceeding with extreme caution. *js
My car will be idling and suddenly power down. recently while i have been slowing down at a traffic light, stop light, or braking for traffic it will power down. after researching online i have found that hundreds of other ford escape owners have had the same issue, some have had it happen while driving at high rates of speed. i have taken it to 4 different mechanics, 2 of which are ford dealerships and they work on it charge me a lot of money and it continues to happen. almost a year now! i'm fed up.
Car lost power suddenly while driving on freeway at 65 mph. i pulled over to right lane in heavy rush hour traffic. i coasted at reduced and slowing speed to the next an exit ramp, which was another freeway. several cars were honking and passing me on the exit ramp. i pulled over and drove on shoulder for another mile until i came to a slight hill. i stopped on the narrow shoulder because the car would not move. the engine was still running, but at low rpm. the wrench icon showed on the dashboard. i turned engine off and waited several minutes. it had full power when i restarted, giving me room to drive to next exit less than a block away, but lost power again minutes later. i exited on to century ave, dodging oncoming cars coming at full speed. i pulled to a service station right off the highway. *tr
As i was driving my car lost it throttle. the engine continued to run but i had no ability to accelerate. i pulled the car over. turned it off, then back on and the car appeared to show no issues. about two weeks later the issue appeared again. same solution. from my research this appears to be a common issue and could very much endanger anyone in the vehicle. *tr
Entered left turn lane to approach off ramp, truck stalled. appx 40mph. turned off and restarted, drove home. had noticed jumping response from idle to reverse to drive, particularly upon first ignition of day, for about a week. have contacted dealership for repair of noted throttle body issue, which is scheduled for 1 week from today. *tr
Driving on freeway approx 65 mph, no warning, engine completely stops. thankfully able to drift over to shoulder of exit lane and restarted with no detectable issues. asked mechanics to run alternator diagnostics - as they said the alternator was the only thing that would make an engine completely cut off. tested ok. parked for weekend. same thing happened on monday morning. searched for problem online, found throttle body comments. called local dealer - service adviser told me it was covered under recall, but appointment setter told me it wasn't. we'll see when i get there tomorrow. very terrifying experience - i'm lucky i travel at very early traffic times. i don't think i will ever feel safe in the vehicle after reading so many similar stories. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. while driving approximately 5 mph, the service warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact also stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle was restarted and the service and check engine warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 68,000.
I was driving on the freeway going approx. 70 mph and without warning lost all acceleration. i had to maneuver across 4 lanes of traffic to get on the shoulder. i turned the car off and was preparing to call a tow truck when i started the car again and had limited acceleration. i was able to "limp" the car home and to a repair shop. the repair shop said the throttle body needed to be replaced. *tr
Driving down road and just quit running. *tr
Driving down freeway at 85 miles per hour. vehicle stalls and rpms or mph won't move. pull over put in park, vehicle shakes real bad and wrench comes on. turn off and restart, wrench drops off. 50 miles down the road same instance, except after restarting wrench drops and check engine light comes on. bring to dealership. throttle actuator control system stuck open and they say possible recall. week later going 65 down highway and same instance happens. take it to different dealership and they say we have throttle body recall, they recalibrate the recall. now vehicle doesn't always switch rpms when it's supposed to. it'll jerk before shifting and then wrench and check engine light comes back on. back to dealership and they say throttle actuator control and possible new throttle body down the road. spent almost 1000 dollars on recall in last couple months and now they telling us the recall was just a recalibration and but might need a new throttle body?? what was the recall for. frustrated with ford. *tr
The ford escape has been randomly stalling at times while driving. i am forced to either pull off to the side of the road or quickly turn off my car and turn it back on again in the middle of the road. *js
Signs of issue during the occurrence: -car stop running -throttle alarm showed up -transmission alarm showed up -the issue happens approx. 3 to 4 times a month you will need to stop and turn off your engine for a while before you can start driving the car again, the throttle alarm will go away but the transmission stays sometime approximately after 12 hours. *tr
Vehicle stalled during mild acceleration after an abrupt and jerky shift transition. lost engine power but accesories remained on and the wrench indicator lamp turned on. normal operation of vehicle was restored after turning ignition key off and restarting the vehicle. *tr
The engine has stalled on multiple occasions. several of the incidents have occurred when making a turn, either right or left, at a low speed with no pressure being applied to either the gas or brake pedal. the most recent events have been when turning onto a street with oncoming traffic. i make the turn and press on the gas only to find that the engine has stalled. i have to stop and restart the vehicle. this makes for a dangerous situation as you end up with little control of the vehicle. it has also stalled in parking lots when coasting at a low speed waiting on another car. i purchased this vehicle used in may of 2014 and had to take it to a local ford dealership the very next month (june 2014). the dealership replaced the throttle body and motor assembly and also reprogrammed the pcm per the 13n01 recall. within two months, the issue was back, this is january of 2015, and the issue has gotten much worse. i have read that it could be a type of relay switch located in the under-the-hood fuse box. if ford doesn't fix this issue, there will eventually be wrecks and possible fatalities. *tr
Upon starting the vehicle it operates as it should, once the rpm slow to an idle the vehicle will surge and stall at idle. at slow speeds (10-20 mph) the vehicle will surge and stall when the throttle is applied. the vehicle shuts down and steering and braking abilities are minimal, the vehicle will surge at speeds of 45mph however it does not stall at this speed. on the highway at a speed of 70 mph the vehicle will surge slightly, however it is not as noticeable of an event as at slower speeds. *tr
The vehicle accelerated quickly from a stopped position upon starting in the morning. i have to put my foot on the brake to keep it from surging forward even though i have not pressed the gas peddle at all. vehicle jolts forward suddenly during driving at slow speeds and often when starting from a stop. also sometimes increases acceleration when coasting at a medium speed when no gas has been applied. *tr
I have had this vehicle for one year, and it would be impossible to recount all of the times it has stalled on me while driving it. it has stalled in parking lots, in heavy stop-and-go traffic, making turns, pulling into my driveway, and accelerating to enter the freeway. it started within two months of purchase. i took it to a ford dealership in august of 2014 where they performed recall work which included throttle body replacement, reprogrammed the pcm, and a power steering advisory item. the vehicle continued to stall. the stalling seems to happen just after fill-up and happens intermittently until the gas gauge reads less than three-fourths and at low speeds. i filled it up yesterday, and it has stalled seven times since then. it happens when coasting to a stop or making a turn. on the freeway at high speeds, it runs well. the issue was compounded in february when it was discovered that the evap canister was full of gas. it, along with a tube hose assembly (bl8z9d667b-af), was replaced only for it to happen again. the purge valve was stuck open and had to be replaced along with a second evap canister. the stalling issue continued, and the dealership found the canister to be saturated with gas again. this time, they said they would have to replace the gas tank to correct the issue as they believe it is a valve built into the tank which seems absurd. i have not done this since they quoted a cost of over $2000. even if i have that done, it will only correct the canister issue, not the stalling. i have read hundreds of posts on the internet from people who have the exact same problems with the same model year as i have. these are both issues that i believe to be the result of a defect in the manufacturing of this vehicle due to the volume of owners who are experiencing the same problems. i feel ford needs to step up and correct these issues.
During rush hour traffic on a busy highway, my 18 year old daughter was attempting to accelerate from a legal right turn on red. with traffic approaching the gas pedal become unresponsive, she began quickly losing speed, she was in the right hand lane thank god with a turn lane and was able to pull over before slowing to a complete halt. had she been in a center lane or on a stretch with no shoulder, there could have easily been a severe accident. the gas peddle just became totally unresponsive as she came to a stop. when she was completely stopped noticed the service engine light, a red battery light and wrench light all came on. waited 10 min for me to get to her. we restarted car seemed fine. i took to ford dealer last night. ford dealer called this morning as advised fuel throttle problem and said no problem warranty extended on that problem to 150,000 miles 10 years, you will not have to pay. christ i'm not worried about paying. i"m worried about getting my family or someone else's family killed. shame on ford for not recalling after all the complaints i have seen now. something must be done now before major accident with deaths involved!!!!! *tr
I was traveling northwest on i 26 when i heard a pop and lost speed and control. i eased over to the right side of the highway and tried to stop. at this time, the car started to shake violently. eventually the car stopped and would not start again. i had to be towed to newberry and left the car at a garage and rented a car to continue my trip to pick my granddaughter and return to charleston. i had to pay 85.00 to the tow truck driver, 385.00 for the car rental and 486.36 to the garage for the throttle body replacement. now i find out this has had a recall. if i had been notified, i would not be out nearly $1000.00, not to mention the safety aspect of this whole incident. i could have been seriously injured or killed. *tr
Engine suddenly lost power several countless times during a 300 mile journey on a highway. i almost crashed vehicle during the early occurrences. *js
1st time i was coming to a stop at a light and the vehicle wanted to surge forward several times, when light turned green i tried to accelerate and it hesitated. this would happen every now and again, not a continuous issue. in dec 2014 it happened again this time with the vehicle stalling, put in park and it started right up but hesitated when accelerating, did this several times within a 5 mile span. parked, did my 8 hour work day came out, started right up and no issues driving home. later that night my husband drove it and it stalled on him 3 times with the check engine light coming on. code p144a came up, took it to my mechanic and was told the code thrown should not cause stalling issues. this has been an ongoing battle, sometimes the vehicle running great, sometimes i don't know if i'll make it to my destination. this happens at all speeds; in city, interstate, or at a complete stop. i only have 72000 in mileage and my vehicle is well kept, what is going on?!? *tr
Loss of power at highway speed, 70 miles per hour, during rush hour traffic. my wife had to pull over to breakdown lane and turn off engine, on i-95 in west palm beach fl area. wrench light illuminated. vehicle restarted, after a few minutes waiting at side of very busy highway. second time this happened within two weeks. very dangerous situation!!!!!! 2011 ford escape ltd 3 l v6. *tr
I was driving at 11 pm on a country road, when my vehicle just stopped, i coasted around a corner and put on my flashers. i was in the middle of no where and it was very dark. this is the third time this has happened to this vehicle. i contacted ford road side emergency service and they informed my vehicle was no longer under warranty for towing and i would have to pay for the wrecker. i had just got the vehicle out of the shop from the ford dealer for the same problem, which they had for over two weeks because they said they were waiting on a part because they said it was the fuel pump and no one had one so they had to order it. i got the car out that day about 11am, which i had to pay $176.00, plus over $30.. for a rental for 5 days, that's all they would cover. i had to sat in the dark and rain for two hours waiting on a wrecker in the middle of the road. i am 67 years old and thank goodness my sister in law was with me, because i don't know what would have happened. the wrecker towed my vehicle to ford and i am waiting on them to open so i can call them so they can tell me what is wrong. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape . the contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle jerked violently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure and current mileage was 44,000.
While driving down the street at 40 mph my car stalled and stopped running. there were other cars behind me. i had to coast off the road and restart my vehicle. *tr
When pressing on the gas the car shifts really hard. then it seems like there is no get up and go afterwards. the transmission is shifting hard. *tr
Pulling out of the driveway of my home, the car surged forward on its own and narrowly missed the neighbor. this surging of the engine on its own is going to cause a death one of these days. ford really needs to look into this. *tr
On 1/10/14 upon pulling onto an exit off of a major interstate as i slowed down the engine shut off. the vehicle had power but the engine shut off on it's own. i put hazard lights on, car in park and started again fine. again later that evening i was on my way home from work and upon pulling off an exit the engine stalled again. 1/11/14 i drove home on a major highway, came to stop light and engine lost power again. i was able to coast to a stop and park. engine restarted fine and vehicle proceeded to stall at the next intersection. this to me is dangerous losing engine power. i am afraid this could cause me to be rear-ended if this keeps up. i am seeing the dealer first thing next week. *tr
Driving on a winding, mountainous road the car suddenly lost power and was not responsive to the accelerator. there was no shoulder, so i kept going, very slowly, and then it resumed normal operating responsiveness, only to lose power again. this continued for the 4 miles it took for me to get home. i hoped it was some bad gas and was a one-time event - until it happened again, and i was again able to get home. i am now afraid to drive it. *tr
Accelerated from a stop and car lurched and engine seemed about to quit, got "wrench light" and was able to creep to get into parking lot. took car to dealer and they ran diagnostics on car and said the throttle body needed to be replaced. *tr
My daughter was driving, and had pulled from a stop sign. the vehicle seemed to stall, and she had no control- no brakes, no throttle, the emergency brake didn't stop her, and she finally pushed it into park and that did nothing. it rolled to a stop, although the engine seemed to be running. she turned off the engine, and after a few minutes, restarted it. it restarted, and she proceeded to drive to her destinations which was closeby. very scary, but fortunately, no other real traffic, but this could have been tragic. *tr
While trying to accelerate to enter merging highway, my 2011 ford escape took many seconds to stall and then finally engage. my son asked why does this always happen, and its not safe to drive not knowing when entering the traffic, that you will not know if the car is going to make it in the traffic. i drove far and quite a bit yesterday and it happened 3 times. i am taking the car in next week, even though the dealer thinks nothing is wrong. *tr
After intermittent 3 times in 2 weeks, had throttle body cleaned 12/14/2013 per ford tsb. on this date, 12/16/13 it failed again and had the throttle body replaced at my expense. ford would not cover it after 36,000 or 3 years as out of warranty. it was an extremely hazardous condition not to replace. this part should be recalled immediately for replacement. *tr
This happened twice and i've only had the car 3 months. it' stalls when i'm driving. i had to stop the car on the george washington bridge in ny/nj. turn off the engine and start again. this was extremely dangerous and terrifying to go through!! today there was smoke coming through the front engine. please advise me. *tr
While driving down the highway on the way home from work in busy traffic, suddenly the engine came to an idle and a small icon of a ?wrench? lit up on the dashboard. after trying to maneuver through traffic on the busy highway at 5 mph (almost causing an accident) i was able to get to the side of the road. i shut the car off and restarted it, the icon of the wrench was gone and the car proceeded to run fine. i'm reporting this because i have heard this happen to other people and it was caused by a throttle body malfunction. this is an extremely dangerous situation on a busy highway. *tr
Several weeks earlier, as a was stopped at a traffic light, my car started bucking or surging, feeling as though it was going to stall. it did not stall at that point. a few minutes later, as a was slowed down by a bus, it did stall. restarted very easily and i kept driving. every few days, we would notice the surging, and the check engine light was on. took it to the dealer and the was told there was a problem with the fuel system, but they weren't sure what exactly. stalled a second time post dealer visit. this morning, as i was in motion at 35 miles an hour, the car suddenly shut off. i coasted very easily to the shoulder, but could not restart. car has been towed to the local dealer. awaiting their answer, but sounds very much like the other throttle body issues i've read on here. i'm fortunate to have been on the highway yet, especially with my young child in the back seat. this was a scary situation, and i'm not pleased that the previous recall did not include the 2011 model year. please reopen the investigation. *tr
This is the second time this has happened to me. both time i was on my way to work. the first time i was going about 45mph turning on the street to my office and the engine dies. i have no power. i am pressing on the gas and nothing. i stop the car and pit it in park. i restart the car and it starts right up. i think oh no big deal maybe i have a bad tank of gas. maybe the engine was not getting any fuel. did not think too much into the problem this morning it happens again! except i was going a lot faster and i was on the highway. i am going about 65mph and 10 minute away from work. i am in the far left lane and the engine dies. i instantly panic and need to get over five lanes of traffic. i put my flashers on luckily i still have power for those. i was able to get over on the side of the road before i came to a complete stop. i put it in park and take the key out. sit there for a minute while i catch my breath because i just crossed 5 lanes of rush hour traffic with a engine that is not on. i put the key in and it starts right up. i press on the gas and i have power again. why is this happening? i have been reading online about this problem and it sounds like this is happening to a lot of us. ford is wrong for not coming out with a recall by now. *tr
Nhtsa action number - dp12006 vehicle stalls going 65 mph. issue is not covered under the 100,000 mile warranty why???? why has there not been a recall on this issue?????? *tr
While driving in the middle lane of i 85 the engine turned off. i could not accelerate. the right lane became clear and i coasted the car onto the shoulder of the road. this was a terrifying experience especially at this speed with cars behind me. *tr
Vehicle cut off while driving 65mph on highway with no warning. *tr
Driving normal speed, without warning, "wrench icon" appears and gas pedal fails to respond. coast to stop in a parking lot. shut off engine, restart vehicle and it drives normal for remainder of 2 mile trip. start next errand and same thing happens. sounds like the throttle body failure and limp mode that i have been researching online. *tr
The vehicle experienced a fuel surge causing a reaction that was not intended by the driver. the car joltedas if one mashed the accelerator then released repeatedly. once the vehicle came to a stop the car spit and sputtered like bad engine timing. we turned the vehicle off where it sat overnight. it was hard to start this morning and experienced the same problem twice this morning while taking the kids to school. i stopped by an advanced auto parts store where the attendant pulled the service code p2112 throttle actuator stuck closed. *tr
Throttle body needed to be replaced driving on the highway at about 65mph, the car gave a small jerk and the wrench icon illuminated, the car appeared to still have power but there was no ability to accelerate. luckily i was able to move over two lanes of busy, speedy traffic (as there was no left side shoulder) and pull off without causing an accident. i turned the vehicle off then restarted it, it appeared to run okay after that until about 3 miles later the exact thing occurred again. this happened three times on the highway and once i was able to exit it happened once again on a rural road at about 35-40mph. i called for service and took the car in the next day, while on the way to the dealer, the car did the same thing once more - at about 45 mph. this was an extremely nerve-wracking experience, especially while in heavy traffic on the freeway - it could have easily cause an accident and turned out much worse. once the dealer called me to tell me what the issue was i looked online to see if i could find any information and came across hundreds of other complaints, almost exactly the same experience i had. i feel, based on the number of complaints i have read and the need for so many people to have this part replaced it should be a formal recall by ford and not something that the consumer has to pay for, as i am now. it's only a matter of time before this situation occurs and causes serious injury or death, if that hasn't already happened. *tr
Complete loss of power, no throttle response, loss of speed on highway. dash shows wrench, check engine light. was able to pull off road, turned off engine. restarted car. same situation within another 3 miles of restart. auto zone verified code p2111. this failure put the family into a very dangerous situation at highway speeds. *tr
Was driving down the highway at 55 mph and all of a sudden my vehicle would no longer accelerate. luckily i was able to safely pull over and once i came to a stop i noticed my vehicle was idling rough and would not respond to the throttle and noticed the light with a wrench was also on. i turned the vehicle off and was able to start it back up and make it home and after doing some research this seems to be a very common problem with the ford escape. will be taking to a dealer to see what they can do. *tr
