I have only owned my pre-owned vehicle for 3 years and have had to replace driver side front bearing 2x's, rear wiper motor twice and now vehicle will stall while in motion and at stops for traffic lights. i have always driven fords and feel that this is something with the assembly line because i learned of another from the same assembly line that had the same problems.

My 2011 ford escape xlt 2.5l is stalling while driving, stopped, turning. the rpm's are jumpy. car stalls with foot on the gas in mid drive! replaced the canister purge valve as diagnosed. not the fix.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. while driving approximately 62 mph with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle stalled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact stopped, turned off, and restarted the vehicle for it to operate normally. the vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic, but the failure recurred. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the cause of the failure was not determined. the failure mileage was 150,000.
Transmission had to be replaced at 128000.miles and cost us 3500.00 and we only owned it for less than a year
Car shuts down at almost any speed while you are driving. it happens all the time, the engine goes in to limp mode, and it very dangerously forces you to exit the road quickly. we have taken it to 2 very reputable service shops (and paid them to fix it), and they were not able to repair it. based on the # of reported issues with this problem on this vehicle, ford needs to quickly fix this and make it right at no charge.
Loud clicking noise. louder with time. mechanic states crack between cylinders. motor has to be replaced.

I don't remember exactly when the problem accured, just one day the check engine light came on. took it to a mechanic and they said it might be the fuel flap. as time went on nothing seemed to not be working. took it to a mechanic today and turns out the engine mounting bracket is cracked. call ford and tey want me to pay out of pocket. problem is this is a manufacturer problem not something i have done. notlike theyve ever honored a warrenty in the past with me any way. to them its always user error even when the vehicle is more damaged than i left it with them.
I was in the process of turnig off our street and driving a short distane up our driveway to park outside our garage when my vehicle lunged forward into the garage doing considerable damage to the contents and structure. i then backed the vehicle out of the garage to avoid further damage.since i had the distinct impression that the engine was overpowerinhg the brakes i decided to turn the ignition switch off to stop the vehicle. it was then i determined that tongue of the boat trailer had severed the filter on the vehicle engine spurting the contents of the oil sump on the driveway and the trailer was impaled in the grill of the vehicle. it was also observed that the trailer had propelled the high pressure washer stored alongside it when the trailer was pulled from the garage by the vehicle.07
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. while starting the vehicle, the engine independently revved. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (norris ford, 901 merritt blvd, baltimore, md 21222) where it was diagnosed that the throttle body failed and the power train control module needed to be updated. the vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Was driving vehicle on exit ramp from highway traveling around 45 mph when engine and power shut off. i was able to steer and stop the car (power steering had shut off). radio remained on, but dashboard display was off. once car was stopped, car restarted immediately. several similar reports about ford escapes with this problem just within the past few month. very dangerous problem as no warning lights and at high speed. could be related to ongoing nhtsa investigation (dp15-001) open since 2015 with no resolution. no previous history of problems and car was serviced less than one month ago.
This 2011 ford escape is my son's car. we bought the car used in 2015. the car currently has 69,000 miles. in april 2017 my son complained of the car surging while stopped at a light. we drove the car that night and could not get it to duplicate this issue. a month later he called me and stated the car surged again while stopped in a turn lane. he made it to a side street but within 50 yards the car came to a screeching stop. the car would not move. ended up with a seized transmission. we replaced the transmission in may 2017. within a week the car is now becoming unresponsive and still surging while stopped. he has to turn the car off and back on to gain control of the car again. when stopped the car engine is shutting down. today the vehicle surged forward while at a stop. today i researched this problem online and came across the electronic throttle body issue in ford escapes including the 2011 model. i feel that this etb issue was the direct cause of the seizure of the transmission on this car. i spent $2500 on a new transmission and still have an issue with the car acting the same was as before. this is a very dangerous malfunction on a car driven by an 18 year old. he could have easily surged into another car or pedestrian. a recall was the only solution the nhtsa should have accepted from ford on this issue. i would like to be reimbursed the $2500 for the new transmission that this faulty part has caused.
Started car up in driveway and engine revived (rpm's went way up) just for a few seconds. drove to destination pulled into parking stall as i applied the brakes, the engine revived up again and i was unable to stop, even while applying the brakes, the vehicle lunged forward over the parking block. the vehicle then stopped just short of hitting a tree.
When slowing down, vehicle loses power and comes to a stop. the only way to restore power is to turn the vehicle off and restart. this has almost caused me to get hit several times. although it occurred rarely at first, now it is often . i saw the throttle body recall on this model and it describes the problem. however, the recall is expired. this is very unsafe and unsatisfactory. program 13b17.

Engine recall i have a 2011 ford escape & after 7 months of owning this vehicle i was told that i need a new engine. i was headed home from work on i95 then the engine light came on. the next morning i got up to go to work and the escape would not crank up at all it did not move. from the time i had this vehicle it would not start on some days so it was no good when i bought it. it only has 65000 miles on it. the camshaft & crankshaft needs to be replaced there should be a recall on that part of this vehicle. i drove it for 7 months & there was days it didn't want to start. i wasted my hard earned cash on this piece of junk and now i dont have a car to ride to work. ford need to recall this issue.
As i was driving home in town, the engine service soon light comes on. code has to do with the emissions/fuel valve. the vehicle drives just fine, but concerned about inspection and if this is under a recall that is not for my vehicle. also, when driving, starting and stopping the car seems to 'jump' at times and no known cause and hesitates in shifting. please advise on what to do. thank you. a very concerned driver. *tr
I was driving to my bank which is an hour away. as i drove up a steep mountain at the top the truck just shut off and i coasted to the side of hwy. after i stop tried starting 4 times and nothing happen. set for 10mins then tried again truck started i made it back home without stalling.i took my in truck to be looked at diagnostic fuel throttle. every day since im stalling 1or 2 a day trucks should be made to endure parts should be.more durable its always about cutting corners.making more money off of customer.can we just the land of the free and a home of honest amd integrity.i must work if dont have reliable trasnportation its difficult where i live. please do something about all these defected trucks we trust ford but i have lost trust in their ablity to make great lasting trucks.i will never buy another ford again this my last one from ford.thank you.
Bought 2011 ford escape xlt used 5-27-2016 (private sale, chicago il). upon purchase, serviced at milwaukee area ford dealership, found front control arms & bushings torn/loose. next, front sway bars, outer tie rod ends, brakes and rotors needed replacement. in oct. 2016 engine/transmission major issues: leaking oil and trans fluid -no oil lamp or check engine light- car would run out of oil, pulled over added more. trans slipping during accel/weak accel. hard shifting w/high rpms. rough idle. ticking noise under hood when brakes applied. 12-6-2016 ford dealership replaced gaskets & seals in engine & transmission- $2,000 repair. upon driving car, issues continue, new issues present: trans slipping worse/bucking, car not accelerating when gas pedal depressed, car stalling in traffic, car lurching forward, car losing gasoline/smelling of gasoline. broke down 12-8-2016 in parking lot due to fuel leak. contacted aaa roadside assistance, returned to dealership, turned away. fire dept cleared car for towing, fire hazard. researched vin, found recall for fuel delivery modulator flange, and field service action for electronic throttle body. contacted ford customer support, verified recall for my vin. advised to not operate vehicle. area ford dealerships refused to diagnose w/o charging. a service manager at a mazda dealership diagnosed additional undisclosed repairs: a/c line ruptured, front driver's side sway bar snapped and control arm bushing separated; ford mechanic had also left bolts & hoses loose/unclamped in engine. steering and rear suspension deteriorating. returned to dealership once more- turned away. missed 1 month of work (driving is job). no rental provided, unwilling to reimburse. filed dealer complaint. filing consumer protection & disclosure lawsuit. seeking class action lawsuit against ford motor company. car is dangerous, i refuse to operate it. *tr
Driving a 2011 ford escape, and while waiting at a stop light heading south at a major intersection, upon the light turning green, i proceeded to enter the intersection at approx. 10 mph. next thing i know, i am t-boning a car that ran the red light entering the intersection from the east at 40 miles and hour. i was unable to see her approach because of a large truck on my left that was turning left to go east. the impact spun the car that ran the red light around 180 degress then hit a third car and stopped. there were no injuries amongst any of the parties involved in the accident. my concern is that my airbags did not deploy. the total front of my car was smashed in and the bumper just about torn off. damage incurred by my car made it a total loss. driverwho ran the red light was ticketed by the police. looking at the damage to the front end of my car, the airbags should have gone off.
While driving my car i slowed down to make a turn and the engine suddenly stopped.no warning, shaking or decrease in speed. it just stopped i tried restarting but it wouldnt start until 10mins later. i was able to drive it to the dealership with no problems or lights on the dash but after i left (they couldn't see the car until 4 days later) leaving the lot the engine seemed to stall off and on for the 5 mile trip so i would put it in neutral when i would come to a light and coast to a stop, then restart. the wrench light came on and later the engine light. also the rpm 's on the dash would go up to 4-5 but my engine speed would be 40 mph this scared me so bad, i parked the car until the appointment at the dearlership when i took it to the dealership they did a diagnostic but know codes came up. they did fix the throttle
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. while driving 70 mph, the service engine soon warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 81,425.
2nd time my throttle has been replaced ford needs to issue recalls on all ford problems.... needs to be recalled
Car keeps stalling. while accelerating as well as at freeway speed (on streets and on the freeway). the obd-ii reader says its code p2111 which is for the throttle body. got it leaned immediately after stall. immediately after picking it up from the shop, it stalled again, showing the same code on the reader. upon further research these seem to be defective on many ford escapes of this year.
6 times suddenly lost acceleration without warning while driving. 4th, 5th and 6th time on 8/3/2016 on u.s. 25 at about 55 to 60 mph all in one day. no response from gas pedal, tachometer dropped to 0, wrench light came on. was able to coast to side of road. maintained pwr steering/brakes. shut off engine, restarted/worked fine, wrench light off. mileage about 65,000. 1st, 2nd it happened on side roads in town and the 3rd i was on a busy road in lexington ky on versailles road where semis were everywhere and i thought i was gonna get hit then. wrench light came on while decelerating, light and throttle reset upon shutting of and restarting car. ford says they will not repair unless code is present, code erases when car is shut off and will not drive until car is shut off and restarted. these incidents fit description of ford "field service action" for electronic throttle body extended coverage. v dangerous!! i do not want to be driving this vehicle with it doing all of this especialyyy if i have my grandkids in the vehicle with me.
In 2014, ford recalled the vehicle to 'recalibrate' the powertrain control module to to prevent electronic throttle body (etb) failure, but in august 2016, the vehicle suffered etb failures resulting in an extremely limited ability to accelerate, rough idle and noticeable power loss. the first failure occurred in the middle of rush hour traffic on one of the busiest highways (95) in america where traffic was congested but moving at a high rate of speed, and a loss of power was incredibly dangerous as i was unable to keep up with the speed of traffic and/or merge onto another highway (66) at a high enough rate of speed. the failures continued to happen anytime the vehicle was on a highway going between 60-70 mph. took the vehicle to ford as early as their schedule would permit, but ford was unable to fix the issue at the time because the part was on "national back order" and simply advised to pull the vehicle over and restart the engine to "reset" the throttle body. such advice was unacceptable and dangerous. living in a highly congested area where some highways and toll bridges do not have shoulders to pull over on nullified ford's interim remedy. they were clearly not concerned about any driver's safety while waiting for parts to come in as they did not even offer another vehicle to drive in the meantime.
My wife's car lost all power and she was able to coast it to a safe in downtown pittsburgh, got it towed to our mechanic and there's an active code for the electric throttle body motor stuck closed
Issues with bogging down and stalling. throttle body was replaced, due to diagnosis and "electronic throttle body extended coverage" - i would like to ask why there isn't a 100,000 warranty on the new throttle body, not just 3yr/36,000. please contact me.
I was driving down the street and my vehicle started to idle funny, like it was going to stop running and it would not accelerate at all, i had to coast to the side of the street. when i pressed the gas pedal it would not accelerate or do anything almost like it was disconnected. the engine light also came on at this time. my fiancee' came to where i was at and he shut the vehicle off and then started it back up and the engine light was off and the vehicle was back to running again like nothing ever happened. i have read several complaints about the throttle body being bad and that ford and ford garages where refusing to fix the problem with all the vehicles doing this and i think that is so wrong on many levels due to ford being a top manufacturer of vehicles they should stand by the vehicles and fix any problems that occur with the vehicles. i don't have any warranty and i am on limited income and cannot afford to pay a big tow bill or play for a major repair. *tr
I just filed a complaint about my 2011 ford escape with the complaint number being 10873640. i entered the wrong vin number so i am putting it in this message. the right vin number is as follows: [xxx] the other vin number was for my daughters dodge grand caravan. sorry for the mix-up. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power, failed to accelerate, and shut off. after restarting the vehicle, the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 110,000.
Vehicle engine suddenly and randomly cuts out in the middle of driving, in motion on the highway, or soon after starting to drive, in motion leaving a parking lot. the accelerator becomes unresponsive and the car sputters to a stop. when you try to restart the car it turns on as if nothing happened.
Stalling out in traffic speeding up for no reason.all symptoms point to throttle body exactly what they described to me at my local dealer! but told me they will not fix it until it sets a code !!!!!!!!!!! in the mean time i am afraid i will get hurt because it has stalled in traffic . i am really concerened for my safety.
Vehicle was parked for 4 days in driveway. vehicle engine compartment became engulfed in flames unexpectedly. cause unknown. a 2014 recall related to throttle body is suspicious. recall was addressed under customer satisfaction program 13n03.
Beginning of october the vehicle jerked violently but it stopped immediately & then drove fine. approximately 1.5 months later, i was driving down a busy road & the car started jerking hard and wouldn't move. i had it towed to a ford dealership. i was told that it was the transmission & would cost over $4,200 to replace. a vehicle with 120,000 miles doesn't typically have transmission failure. my mechanic suggested i research ford escspes, as he noted their engine & transmission failures are well known. after days of researching the topic, i see it is a far too common complaint on ford suvs around 90,000-130,000 miles. this is a grave danger & something ford must be aware of
When driving car going about 45mph.car shut off and wrench will appear on dashboard . i have been able to coast off the road , shut off car wait for a few minutes and restart car . i am in fear that car will shut off in area where there is no shoulder and i will be hit from behind . there seems to be a pattern building with this same problem , same model, same year .
I was driving along the highway and my ride shuddered some and lost acceleration, my engine light came on then the wrench symbol came on and it has stayed on. it's giving a throttle/ powertrain error. i've done some research and i've seen a lot of complaints concerning this issue and was told to file a complaint. ford needs to issue a recall on this problem before someone gets seriously hurt or killed.
My 2011 ford escape while driving at 65 mph on the freeway in merging traffic the engine stalls leaving me with no power to control my speed. as my car quickly reduces speed on a major freeway i attempt to get over to the shoulder out of harm's way, his has happened to me twice. so i call the service and they tell me it's a problem with electronic throttle body but when i take the car to my dealer for service. they told me sorry after two key cycles the code disappears so there is nothing they can do. so i have to drive this unsafe car and wait for it to happen again before i can bring it in.
I had my oil changed on 10-03-15. on 10-17-15, my engine light came on and my car stalled and jerked when i was stopped at a light and when it was in park with the engine running. i called ford and was told it would cost $110 just to see what was wrong and that would not go toward repairs. i took it to a mechanic who did a system check and said it was the camshaft timer. it was replaced but that did not resolve the issue. i took it to another repair shop where i was told i had to have the vvt solenoid timer and the ignition coil replaced. he said the engine oil burned these items. i only have my oil changed by ford. i had just reached 60,130 miles on my vehicle, so there was no warranty. i think this was an expense that could have been avoided, especially if it was an oil issue.
When accelerating from a stopped position, the vehicle felt as if it were about to stall. i pressed the clutch and the vehicle did not stall, but would not move forward. i turned the vehicle off. i restarted the vehicle (which hesitated to catch for several seconds). upon the vehicle starting, i again attempted to accelerate through the intersection. at first the vehicle seemed ok, but shortly through the intersection the vehicle lost all acceleration. i pulled off to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. after several minutes i restarted the vehicle and was able to continue without incident, however the "check engine" light was illuminated. i had the vehicle checked and it read error code p2111. the check engine light went out and the vehicle did not give me problems again until august 20, 2015. as i accelerated from a stopped position, the vehicle again lost all power to the engine (though it did not stall). i was able to move to the side of the road and disengage the engine. after several minutes, and with a hesitated "catch" the engine restarted. i believe this is an existing and known problem with ford (nhtsa pe13003), however, i was told by my local dealer and ford customer service that the warranty extension offered under that investigation does not apply to my vehicle (which falls within all of the guidelines for year, make, model, and mileage).
Traveling home on route 1 north, massachusetts in traffic about 20mph car began to stall and sputter and wrench light came on. brought car to auto parts store for free diagnostic immediately and inspection showed "power train issue" (are you kidding me? just purchased this used car 3 months ago!) next day, same thing happened twice. called the dealer who sold the car to me cannot inspect the car for two weeks. this is unacceptable. ford admits there is an issue with the electronic throttle body (etb) but has not recalled the vehicles.
Today was the worst it has been, it al started about 2 months ago, it just happens without warning of any kind. but today the first time was on my way to work, luckily i had a place to pull off, turn off engine sit and start it back, not immediate i may say ( a little hesitation in the starting) then the second time (today) happened in an intersection same process, but this time was very scary, seeing how cars were coming at me honking and going around me. then the third time (today) was on my way home from work, with my grandson in the car i might add, this accrued not 30 minutes after the 2nd incident. i had to pull off the road and repeat the process to get going again. if this continues to occur, it could turn into a very bad accident.
As i was driving at 50-55 miles an hour my vehicle bucked and lost power and when accelerating it feels as if the car is going to stall. when starting up from a complete stop the car will hesitate when trying to accelerate and bucks.
Going south on i81 to watertown, ny. vehicle quit and i coasted to the side of the highway. tractor-trailer behind me swerved to miss me. almost hit a car coming off the exit ramp, had no power to excelerate to get by him. could have been a wopper of an accident.
Was driving through town, vehicle revved up and then stalled. stopped vehicle, turned off, and restarted. started up without an issue. 3 days later, while driving to work, vehicles wrench indicator light came on and vehicle lost power. restarted okay. as the week progressed, vehicle started losing power several times during my 20 mile trip to work and back, 40 miles round trip. then on 7/7/15, vehicle lost power 4 times on my way home, the second time it lost power the engine indicator light came on and stayed on. it also took longer to restart the vehicle. checked computer for code. code states p 2112, tac system stuck shut. looked up this code and info, and it seems to be related to the throttle body. i found something that states there was a recall on this part, but i was never notified of this. i would like to get this problem fixed so i can drive my vehicle. i'm nervous about driving it as i have poor signal on my cell phone between home and work and dont want to be stranded. please help me in anyway you can.
The throttle body was corroded on the vehicle causing it to stutter after starting the vehicle. after the issue occurred the vehicle would not drive or function properly. it was clearly unsafe.
I was accelerating to merge onto i-495 in northern virginia, attaining a speed of approximately 55 mph. when i removed my foot from the gas pedal (because i had reached my desired speed), the car continued to accelerate uncontrollably. i applied full pressure to the break with both feet, but the car continued to surge forward. i attained a speed of almost 100 mph, even with both feet fully decompressing the break. both shoulders of the interstate had construction, so there was no shoulder to utilize on either side. after weaving in and out of traffic, i finally found a suitable off ramp. after pulling the emergency break, putting the car in neutral, and eventually park, the car came to a very abrupt stop (just before i reached a busy intersection at the end of the off ramp). the breaks continued to smoke for another 45 minutes after coming to a stop and cutting the engine. i do not know how i'm alive, but i am grateful. *tr
