I had approximately four occurrences of losing all throttle response, basically a complete loss of power while driving on the los angeles freeway system. engine rpm drops to 1,000 and provides idle power only. a very dangerous situation while on a 4 lane congested highway traveling at speeds upto 65 mph. *tr

2010 ford escape. consumer writes in regards to sudden unexpected loss of acceleration in vehicle. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle would completely stop or slow to a miniscule speed. *jb
Driving my 2010 escape on the highway the engine stalled. the speed i was going was about 60 mph. with no prior warning the wrench light and check engine light came on, the rpm's fluctuated between 0500 and 2500 and i could not accelerate the vehicle. the dealer said the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced at my expense as it was not under warranty. *tr
I purchased a 2010 ford escape xlt, used on feb 28, 2012 from a ford dealer, northeast phila. it had 52,000 miles. i purchased an extended 3year 36,000mile bumper to bumper extended warranty from date of purchase. upon driving off the lot, i noticed high idle at rest, low acceleration and shifting by itself when accelerating and trying to slow to stop. i immediately took the vehicle back to the dealer, a couple of days later. service mgr. said that he took my vehicle home, drove it, found nothing wrong. i showed him service bulletins from ford documenting vehicle accidents, similar complaints, as a result of the main computer program of the vehicle, wrong coding, codes not being read correctly, etc. service manager denied seeing this information, despite me giving him copies. it is now august 16, 2013, vehicle is worse, idling at rest 3000 rpm, 10-20 mph idles at 4,000-5,000 rpm, louder than the radio. vehicle shifting itself, hesitating, when trying to accelerate onto a highway ramp, or going up a hill. vehicle shifting, and jerking while trying to slow to a stop. took vehicle to ford dealer route 1 langhorne, pa, closer to my home. was told by service rep that computer codes from vehicle not being picked up by service diagnostic computer. "we had to clear your vehicle computer and reprogram it. not covered under manufacturer or extended warranty. therefore you pay the $90 diagnostic fee". it is routine maintenance". i said how is a computer malfunction in the vehicle, requiring a complete wipe and reprogram routine maintenance? they refused to return my $90. vehicle still same problem, slightly less, a little more quieter, still running 4000 rpm on mild acceleration. i am afraid, because it was shifting up when i was trying to slow to a stop. *tr
Driving at 45-50 mph, car stalled and "wrench-shaped" warning light came on. by descriptions i've read, car went into "limp home" mode. i was able to pull to the side of the road... no acceleration capability, tight steering, rpm bouncing between 500-900. shut off engine, restarted, ran fine for next 30 minutes of drive with speeds ranging from idle and 10-60 mph. friend notified me of the below open investigation that fits what happened. investigation subject : electronic throttle body malfunction date investigation opened: feb 21, 2013 date investigation closed: open nhtsa action number: pe13003 component(s): engine. *tr
While driving to work on i10 at 60 miles per hr in houston tx. the escape lost power and was hard to steer. i limped off the road and shut the escape down and restarted it. the escape worked fine again. this happened twice more over the next months. i am taking the escape to russell smith ford in houston tx to have them correct the problem. please check with them on the issue as i or others could have been killed as this happened during rush hour traffic in houston. *tr
The ford died on the interstate the second day(2/11/13) i owned it. it totally lost power and i had to coast onto the shoulder and wait. i returned it to the dealer where they kept it for a day and found nothing. it occurred three times the next week and i returned to the dealer. they cleaned something and the car worked without incident for a couple weeks. the car has intermittently quit over the last couple months. it got real bad this week (7/10/13) and when i took it to the dealership the computer finally registered a throttle problem. the part is on national back order and should take a month to get. *tr
I was driving down the road and my car stalled and started jerking before shutting down entirely. i would push on the gas and my car would not drive forward, as if it lost its power. the ford dealership had to replace the throttle body, after i owned the car for less than a year. *tr
Vehicle will stall during idle, accelerating from a stoplight, decelerating, and/or driving at highway speeds. there are no warnings before this happens, and when it does happen, the vehicle has to coast to the shoulder, turned off, and then restarted before continuing. weather has no effect as it has happened in minus 5 degrees to 80 degrees, rain, snow, humid, dry, sunny... this has happened at least 20 times in the past 3 months. *tr
This vehicle belongs to my daughter and while driving to get lunch the said vehicle slowed and started jerking and shaking. the engine didn't die but the accelerator would not throttle up. she eventually was able to return back to work and later in the afternoon had a doctor's appointment and she left work for her appointment and traveled about a mile before experiencing the same symptoms as previously stated. my daughter phone me for help and i went to her location and we traded vehicles and i tried to drive it but it wouldn't accelerate as before. the engine would idle and the speedometer indicated 3 mph. i notified ford and requested a wrecker and then was able to get the escape to drive about another mile before it stalled again. i waited for a wrecker that never came and i finally started the engine again and entered the interstate and traveled abt six miles at 65 -70 mph when it lost power again. i idled at 3 mph for about a mile to the ford dealership and they were closed. finally i idled another 2 miles to the daughter's residence and parked the vehicle in her garage.the next day i went to autozone and i asked them what codes p2111 and p2112 were and they advise me it had to do with the throttle body. i then drove it to the dealership at 3 mph and left it . i purchased a throttle body from another ford dealership and installed it in about twenty minutes. it seems to be running good now after test driving it for 15 miles with no issues. the vehicle's warranty expired @ 3yrs or 36,000 miles. *tr
While driving there was a sudden loss of power. the wrench icon lit up on the dash display & the engine light came on too. there was no response from the gas pedal at all. the engine stayed on & all other features of the vehicle worked. i shut the car off & restarted the vehicle & continued driving. this occurred 4 times within a half hour. it was a miracle that i was not involved in an auto accident. i brought the vehicle back to a ford dealer where they replaced the throttle body. vehicle has been operating fine ever since & the gas pedal is more responsive than it was before. the original bumper to bumper warranty expired less than 2 months ago & i had to pay for this repair. i am very unhappy. *tr

I was driving down a side street toward an intersection going about 40 mph when my car appeared to die--i was able to coast slowly across the intersection into a parking lot--after 10 minutes waiting for my husband i attempted to start the car and it started right up--i followed my husband to the dealership and the problem did not reoccur--the dealership said no code had registered so there was nothing to fix--my husband researched this issue and discovered a lot of info about the throttle body issue on ford escapes--on may 2 was leaving the parking lot where i work and the car appeared to die again and i was able to go down my street at an idle speed to my house --we went to the dealership again and the manager acknowledged the throttle body issue but said since it didn't leave a code ford wouldn't fix it--after several hours the dealership called and said that they had gone ahead and replaced the throttle body stating on the invoice "during visual inspection found throttle plate binding and sticking closed. replaced"--we acknowledge that the dealership went above and beyond to fix our problem but are very concerned about the number of complaints about this issue we found on the internet--it is potentially a dangerous problem and, had i been on a freeway or in heavy traffic, would have possibly caused injury to myself or car damage. *tr

Defective throttle body the 2010 ford escape not once but multiple times would go to idle and run rough while traveling on different roads at different speeds. the gas pedal would do nothing to make the car go but it was idling rough and coasting causing us to stop on the side of very dangerous roads. we would turn it off and let it sit for a few minutes and then it would start normal. the gas pedal would work again but repeat the same problem 5 to 10 minutes later. we were certainly glad this did not happen on the interstate in front of an 18 wheeler or we would be dead. the dealership said the throttle body is bad. the car is only 2,000 miles out of warranty from the standard bumper to bumper warranty, the extended powertrain warranty does not cover the part. so we are out almost $400 for a part that should never fail to begin with. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while accelerating from a stop, the service engine and check engine warning lights illuminated as the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was restarted but the failure recurred several times before reaching the contact's destination. the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic and was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 65,000.
On 30 december 2012 at approximately 5 pm i was driving my 2010 ford escape xlt on us 61 in port gibson, ms. i was traveling at approximately 55 mph with the cruise control engaged when the vehicle began to slow down unexpectedly. i glanced down to observe the gauges and discovered the cruise control had ceased functioning and the trouble light (shaped like a wrench) had illuminated. i pressed the accelerator pedal and the engine failed to respond. i pulled to the shoulder and shut down the engine. after checking under the hood for any loss of fluid or obvious mechanical failure i could detect nothing indicating a major mechanical failure. i restarted the engine and observed the gauges noting the trouble light was no longer present. thinking the problem may have been a temporary issue, i again proceeded to travel upon the highway for approximately 100 yards and again the same trouble light illuminated and i lost the ability to accelerate after reaching around 45 mph. i again pulled over, shut off the engine, and restarted. i managed to turn around and go home, but not before i had the same failure occur approximately 4 more times at 65 mph. i contacted ford roadside assistance and the vehicle is being towed to a dealership in vicksburg, ms, 35 miles away. this is the first time the vehicle has exhibited any defects since i purchased it in june, 2012 with approximately 33,000 miles on it. i feel this vehicle is not safe to be operated upon the roads and could endanger my family's safety as well as other motorists. *tr
December 28 ,2012- while traveling on the interstate at 65mph my 2010 escape engine cut off. i finally got to emergency lane and the suv was idling rough. i cut the engine off and restarted it in a few minutes.i took it to the ford dealership today. they ran a diagnostic test and nothing was wrong. they offer to drive it to see if it would cut off again. i have always bought toyota but thought i would buy ford this time. they are definitely a problem so ford stand behind your product and fix it before someone gets hurt or killed. *tr
This is the 2nd time i have taken my 2010 ford escape in for losing acceleration, stalling. the engine still runs but i am unable to accelerate. the car basically won't run, but will start up again. this is a major hazard if this were to happen on the freeway, or with a higher speed. it generally happens around 30 miles per hour. back in december, 2012 i took it in to bill brown ford and they could not figure out the problem, and returned the car to me, saying it didn't happen to them. after experiencing the problem on a daily basis all last week i took it in today to bil brown ford on plymouth rd in livonia, mi. they told me because i no longer have a warranty anything they do find i will have to pay for. it seems like with a safety concern like this they would fix it free of charge. someone could very well run into me from behind when i lose acceleration and cannot run the car. please i hope you can help and help others experiencing this problem. i hope they are able to diagnose the problem today and won't charge me for it. i didn't do anything to this car. it is not normal wear and tear. it should be fixed by ford before a crash happens. also of notation in case this helps i used regular gas only from december, (after this happened the first time), until last week when gas prices went up i switched to e-85. wondering if this might be the problem? i tried to run the gas tank down before filling up with regular unleaded this week as i heard. *tr
At freeway speed the car lost power. we were able to pull to the shoulder of the highway. a small wrench warning light appeared on the dashboard. we checked the owner's manual, and it referred to a "throttle/power train" issue and told us to seek dealer attention as soon as possible. the engine restarted, so we continued our trip. we stopped in sulfur springs, tx, at the ford dealership. that morning the vehicle battery was dead (which was the first problem we have ever had with the vehicle), and we began our trip after jump-starting the car. i thought the stalling was related to the battery problem. the events were explained to the tech, we replaced the battery which we felt would also solve the stalling problem. the stall occurred the next day, and again on our return trip. i took the vehicle to our local ford dealer where the throttle body assembly was replaced. we have not, as of now, tested the repair at freeway speed, but were assured by the dealer that the problem was solved. *tr
My escape often stalls, without warning, while coming to a stop. the battery light comes on, i turn off the vehicle, then immediately restart it without problem. *tr
My wife was driving to work down a country road at about 55 mph with the cruise control on. all of the sudden she felt the car jerk and a wrench indicator light came on. the car immediately started to decelerate. she would push on the gas pedal and nothing would happen. luckily there was no traffic around and she was able to coast into a driveway. the vehicle was basically about to stall out so she turned it off. after 30 seconds she started it back up and it started fine. to be safe we had it towed to the dealership it was purchased from. the dealership said no error message was in the computer system. after consulting with ford the dealership told us that they were pretty sure it was the throttle body that needs replaced. we have not had the throttle body replaced do to the fact that the no error message was in the car computer and there seems to be no guarantee that $500 fix will take care of the issue. upon more research i have done it seems like this issue is a very wide spread issue and happening all over the country. i am just glad that this did not happen to my wife while she was on a busy highway during the morning rush hour, which she does take sometimes to work but this morning choice to go the back way. *tr
When accelerating, the car's rpm jumps really high but the car is not moving any faster. actually feels like it is losing power. exact same type of feeling as indicated in the 2/25/13 reports in the news on the ford investigation. took to the dealership twice and they could not recreate it. *tr
Serious and life-threatening malfunction impeded my ability to control my 2010 escape occurred while driving 50mph on a very busy highway. my escape stalled suddenly without any warning what so ever in the middle of the lane while driving on the busy highway. as i tried to continue driving, pushing the throttle pedal, the escape would not go,it slowed down suddenly on it's own. i was able to ease off the payment to the side of the lane; however, i was almost hit in the rear by a auto behind me before i could get off the payment. i was fortunate to have been at a place where i could ease off the payment. the highway is curvy and hilly. this scared me to death. a wrench light came on indicating a malfunction of the throttle/powertrain. the engine was running fine. i turned off the engine and waited a few minutes, then i cranked it and it cranked fine. the wrench light went off. i tried driving it again, and once i pulled back into the highway, giving it gas, it would barely go, so i eased back again. i called roadside assistance and had it towed to the dealership. after it was inspected i was told the electric throttle body had malfunctioned and needed replacing. it was the caused of the sudden stalling while i was driving. my life as well as others were put in a dangerous situation because of this malfunction. i understand that there has been a lot of complaints like mine already filed here. ford should issue a recall immediately before any deaths occur. i had to pay $470 to get this taken care since my warranty was out 3/36,000. i was told that this was not covered by the powertrain 5/60,000. *tr
2010 ford escape engine stalls at random times: it's happened to me six times now. first while i was driving 65 mph on the interstate in the middle lane when suddenly, with no warning, i was no longer able to get enough throttle to continue moving forward. i had to coast to the side of the road. i was almost rear-ended, i really thought i was going to be killed. it is a very scary situation, going from 65 mph to nothing. the car just shuts off and goes into some type of rough idle mode and a little orange wrench appears on the dash. after stopping and turning off the engine it will start back up. first occurrence was december 7th, 2012, second and third were several days later. fourth and fifth were january 24th 2013 and the sixth on january 25, 2013. four times were on the interstate at speeds of 60-65mph. two times were on main streets at 35-40 mph. car was purchased new and all service as required has been performed at dealership. took car in after first two stalls they stated they could find nothing wrong. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and a smoke test was performed. the dealer located a leak in the system with the potential for fuel leakage as well. the valve solenoid, valve assembly pipe and the fuel filler pipe were all recommended for replacement. the manufacturer was notified and a complaint was filed but no assistance was offered. the vehicle was repaired at a cost of $ 931.64. the failure and current mileage was 70,480. updated 03/01/13*lj the component failures based on what the dealer provided, which was a smoke test, confirmed the fuel system was leaking fuel vapors into the atmosphere and any places that fuel vapors could escape. updated 03/07/13
For several months, my 2010 ford escape would stall while driving down the road. there were times that i was going 45-55mph and my vehicle would stall. i lost power steering as vehicle shut off. i had to slow down and pull off the road and re-start the vehicle. this was very dangerous and scary. this happened probably 10-15 times until i could no longer get the vehicle started. i had it towed into a ford dealership and had their service department analyze the problem. i first took it by an advance auto to check the service engine light. the code that came up i believe was 9000. it had something to do with emission, fuel system concerns. the service department put a throttle body and motor assembly part on it. i haven't had any problems since. they also did an eec test p2111 and found etb to be at fault and replaced. i had to pay $356.52 including labor for this. i feel from reading other information on 2010 ford escapes that there has been a lot of issues with stalling. i feel i should be reimbursed for my expenses. *tr
Throttle became unresponsive and rpm's dropped to idle. luckily was able to coast out of traffic. there was no throttle response at all. problem has been random in nature over the past few months with no codes being presented. turning the car off and then back on again solved the problem (for a while). it has happened while cruising at highway speeds as well as when pulling out into an intersection. yesterday, the throttle quit responding completely and had to have it towed. code check reported p2111 and p2112. dealership indicated throttle body failure. very dangerous as complete loss of throttle control in traffic and when accelerating into traffic from an intersection leaves us in a position of limited control and can surprise other drivers because of our sudden loss of speed. this looks to be a well known problem and is severely dangerous in nature. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled. the check engine and wrench warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 36,500. updated 11/19/13*lj
Throttle body failure. from nov 2012 until july 2013 my ford escape has been bucking and surging at low speeds with no throttle response. occasionally, the vehicle would die completely unresponsive in the middle of an intersection. on july 11, 2013, my wife took our 2010 ford escape to ernest mccarty ford in alabaster, al. they told us that the throttle body assembly would need to be replaced. this issue is very dangerous and should ford should issue a recall. *tr
Right after the warranty went out the vehicle starting slamming from 1st into 2nd upon acceleration. the idle is very rough and quite loud, the engine makes a funny noise and i take extremely good care of my vehicle, getting all of the scheduled oil changes on time, replacing the air filter, etc. i also explained to them that the vehicle wasn't idling properly and that the engine used to be quiet. the windshield is extremely thin as well, a small pebble hit my windshield causing a 8 inch crack in a matter of minutes to where it was beyond getting it fixed. then liftgate started giving me problems. when you press the button, it would make the sound, but sometimes open, then on may 17, 2013 it just quit working all together. on may 18, 2013, i took it to reynolds ford for a scheduled oil change right before a trip to mexico and upon telling them about it, they wanted $250 just to look at it before parts and labor. now, the rear blinker doesn't work and you can't replace it due to the fact that you can't get the liftgate to open in order to remove the rear taillight assembly. so, when you are trying to make a left turn, vehicles behind you don't know you are turning and almost hit you (safety hazard). you also can't change a flat tire since you can get to the jack, which is in the rear compartment accessed through the liftgate. this is a serious problem as there is no manual release for the hatch to get it open period, once the latch doesn't work, it just doesn't work. *tr
I have a 2010 ford escape that surges forward when i come to a stop. the rpm rises and i have to stand on the brake to keep it going forward. no fault lights come on. i have had it checked a week a go, they could not find any problem. no codes or anything. please help me with this matter.i,m afraid to have my wife drive this car. During stopping at stop lights/stop sings the engine surges back and forth like it is going to die. now it has started to actually stall out. the stalling has also occurred on freeway driving at speeds over 40 miles per hour. *tr
My check engine light came on steadily out of the blue. took it to ford dealer and was told i needed to replace a faulty purge valve. part number:9u5z-9c915-h. i was told this was a common problem for escape's and fusion's. there were 3 escapes today having the same part replaced. not under warranty and $300. there is a technical service bulletin on this issue, but not a recall. seems like a common defect could have safety repercussions since is the fuel fumes not exhausting properly. *tr

I am a homehealth nurse, i work in a very mountainous, rural area where i do not even have cellphone service. i was on a very narrow, curvy road, when the car just quit accelerating, the small wrench appeared on the dash, i was able to coast far enough to get to a wide spot where i could get the vehicle safely out of the road, barely missing an 18 wheel coal truck from hitting me. there was no warning, the vehicle drove fine all day and then it just quit. i was able to turn the car off and restart and attempted to drive it and again this happened 3 times before the check engine light finally came on. the nicest person in the world help me and he was able to detect the problem with his computer and he was able to adjust the throttle into the closed position and then i was able to get the vehicle home without anymore problems. i then took it to a ford dealership and had the throttle body replaced before i did get killed if this was to happen again. i do wish ford would just get this part recalled before someone does get killed. *tr
While driving from central fl to asheville, nc. my 3.0 litr escape basically lost all power a total of 6 different times on interstates 95 and 26 between savannah, ga and columbia, sc. driving along at posted highway speed limit, engine would unexpectedly start losing power and eventually come to a stop in the emergency lane. the tachometer indicated that the engine was running at about 1000 rpm, but it would not take and thottle and barely move. switching the engine off and restarting, reset something and allowed me to continue driving normally but only for about 20 miles before doing the exact same thing. this was a saturday about noon and calling several ford dealers was useless as most said they were getting ready to close, or could not look at it until monday. not wanting to ruin our vacation, we tried to continue with the above scenario repeating itself at least 6 more times, each time getting more and more dangerous, as traffic was heavy and each time the engine would lose power instantly and almost caused accidents before we could get off the road into the emergency lane. finally called a ford dealer in columbia, sc that was open till 4pm. and said they could check it out. made it there at 3:30 pm and they diagnosed the trouble as a code p2111 throttle body stuck open. they had the part in stock and $326 later we were on our way. vehicle only had 41k miles. internet research has revealed several hundred complaints of the same exact trouble happening to them. there is even a youtube video showing this described trouble actually taking place, after a frustrated driver could not get any ford dealer to recreate the trouble and take care of it, he videod it acutally happening. my calls to ford motor co customer service, and my emails were a waste of time. ford is ignoring a very dangerous problem that will get them many lawsuits i am sure. ford needs a recall now! *tr
After driving the vehicle for a couple of hours on saturday morning on the interstate i was driving in city traffic. i made a right turn from a stopped position. as i accelerated the engine began to sputter and acted like it was not in gear. the dashboard wrench light came on and i had no response from the gas peddle and the idle was extremely rough. i coasted to a stop and turned off the vehicle. after reading in the manual about the light (power train issue) i called and had the vehicle towed to my dealer for service. as it was saturday i had to wait for service until monday. monday morning i rented a vehicle from the dealer. on thursday, 10/25/12, my vehicle was ready for pickup. when i spoke to the service adviser i was told it was the throttle body was sticking for an unknown reason and they replaced it. i was informed that this was not a power train issue, but it was an emissions issue. they also said it was not covered under the power train warranty. according to my service ticket they also charged me an additional $170 on a miscellaneous item. on 11/12/12 the wrench light came on again when i started the vehicle in the morning. i drove it to my dealer and was told it was the canister purge valve that had a leak. this was also not covered under warranty. *tr
Driving in traffic slowed to turn left across railroad tracks and car died. when i tried to accelerate the gas pedal went to floor but car crawled slowly to where we could pull off road. disconnected and reconnected battery, car started ran 1 mile stopped again. friend cleared electronic error code with tester and car has run ok until recently when back gate will not open until error code was cleared by car dealer. after car slowing incident occurred we returned car to dealer where we purchased it and they said they never heard of that ever happening and they could find nothing wrong with the car. we fear it may happen again and lead to an accident. *tr
In the span of 4 days my 2010 ford escape xls engine failed to turn over 3 times. the first two incidents were resolved by jump starting probably due to low battery output. so yesterday, i took the vehicle to a local mechanic shop and replaced the factory-installed battery thinking this was it. today this morning, as my family and i were about to head out for grocery shopping, the ignition won't start again. so i called for a jump starting service through my insurance and this time it won't start at all. it was towed and moved to the mechanic shop for further inspection. since it wasn't a ford dealership, they weren't able to do a complete diagnosis. but based on what they were able to do, it appears that there is a breakdown of communication between ignition and engine. i had this for two years now originally purchased from aafes military sales korea and the vehicle has never been in a major accident. i am completely baffled and irritated by all this event because there should be no reason for the car to stall like that. currently i am overseas in korea with the us army and there are only a couple of ford dealerships over and they are not near by. *tr
My daughter was driving to school and as she was pulling off the highway her escape stopped responding to the accelerator, so she pulled off the side of the road, trying her best to not get hit by cars going much faster than she could move, and put the truck into park. i was now talking to her over her cell and i asked tried to push on the accelerator, but nothing would happen, as if the gas pedal was broken. she saw a little wrench in the lower left side of the dash, so i asked her to turn the truck off. after a minute i had her turn the key back on, and the light went off and the truck worked fine. plus, the wrench light was off. two days later the same thing happened, but this time she was driving down a residential street. truck lost power, and the gas pedal had no control and the wrench light came on. she managed to avoid getting hit as she slowed down and cars came upon her quickly. she managed to cruise long enough to get near our house and jumped in and saw the same thing she was experiencing. we parked the escape in the driveway and the idle seemed fine, but the accelerator had no response. i then turned the key off and back on and the little wrench light was gone and the accelerator was fully functional again. i decided to take it in to ford, as it has an extended warranty on it. they called us back later on that day and said there is nothing they could do, as they could not see any codes in the computer. i have read this is a fairly common problem, and in my opinion, very unsafe. when the truck goes into this "limp mode"you cannot get out of the way of ongoing traffic. plus, now i am afraid to have her drive this far from my home. i don't want her to get stranded, and if the dealer can't fix it because they can't find a problem. what am i to do? i hope something gets figured out soon. this is not safe, nor an acceptable service response! *tr
While traveling about 20 mph down the street, the vehicle completely lost responsiveness to pressure on the gas pedal. the wrench light came on indicated a power train malfunction. i drifted off to the side of the road and turned the car off. i then waited about a minute and turned the car back on again. everything was fine and the wrench light went away. the car drove fine for another 50 miles or so. then it happened again. there is no warning and when it happens nothing you do can make the car respond. turning the car off then on again solved this problem. through searching through this database, it is apparent this a common problem with ford escape throttle bodies. most likely a defect in the part. *tr
The throttle body was defective leading to a situation where the vehicle would not accelerate. it would immediate go into a crawl mode just enough toget me to the side of the road. i was able to turn off and restart the vehicle only to have it happen again a few miles later. i took to the dealer immediately, they replaced the throttle body at a cost of $440.00. *tr
While driving at highway speeds the engine revs up and losses power to the transmission as if it was out of gear. it also has happened and standing, i need to shut off the motor and reset it as to speak. the ford dealer has said that it is a throttle body issue, but i am scared to drive it down the highway for fear that i may be rear ended. i have found that there is a current investigation under way for throttle body failures and there is a current national back order on them. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated the check engine light illuminated on the instrument. the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times and all they have done is reset the computer. the dealer was unable to determine why the check engine light came on. the failure mileage was 40,000. the current mileage was 46,000.
My wife and i each drive a ford escape, one a 2010 and the other a 2009. in the last month we have each experienced a sudden and unexpected complete loss of power. in her case, she was driving on an interstate at highway speeds in moderate traffic. i was driving in suburban traffic at 40 mph. in each case, the engine suddenly stopped, no power, and the warning lights came on. after about five minutes, you were able to re-start, but the problem persists, so it is not safe to drive the car. the repair costs about $550 for each one, the dealer indicated it was a throttle body and motor assembly.. *tr
The problem was randomly demonstrated several times between 8/31/12 and 9/4/12. the accelerator would seem to stop working or become unresponsive, most often at speeds of 20-30 mph. there would be sputtering, stalling, and then total stoppage.. the motor was running but there seemed to be no fuel flow. i would turn it off, wait several seconds, restart it, and everything would work smoothly until, with no warning, the pattern would repeat itself. it occurred five times /3 miles, two times/1 mile, and two times/0.5 mile. early on 9/4, the pattern repeated three times on the way to the repair shop. these incidents produced anxiety for me and i was going slow. we did not drive the vehicle over the holiday weekend as we were concerned that this would happen on interstate highways when we would be traveling at high speeds.the error trouble codes were po685, p2111, p2112. he said the car was not safe to drive until it was repaired. since the mechanic reported "throttle body" being the problem i researched the throttle body as it relates to the ford escape. it causes me great concern that this has been demonstrated to be a dangerous and potentially life-threatening problem on the escape since 2000 and i bought 3 new escapes within that time period; a 2002, a 2007, and the 2010 escape, and there has been no effective, corrective action taken to resolve this. the dealership has said there will be no reimbursement of the $475.00 and this part is not under any warranty. although the money is an issue, the greater issue is the need to prevent future deaths. i have the old part that was replaced and i am willing to do whatever i can to force this problem to be resolved.in the interest of public safety i urge you to issue an immediate recall until this problem is resolved. thank you for your interest. *tr
The vehicle's accelerator (gas) pedal randomly stops working resulting in immediate loss of speed and power to the engine. accelerator is unresponsive and vehicle will sputter/crawl to 5 mph until ignition is turned off and car restarted. after restart, vehicle runs normal until problem occurs again (sometimes within minutes). problem occurs randomly as little as 1 time per trip to as many as 8 times in a 25 minute commute. problem occurred 12 times the other day with many of them on a multilane interstate while traveling 65 mph in the far left lane with nowhere to quickly pull-off the road. very dangerous when it occurs on the interstate and you quickly have to maneuver to change lanes and pull off the road or risk coming to a stop in the middle of a busy highway. this problem also causes the vehicle to sometimes run rough and negatively impact the emissions. the error code from the vehicle's computer is p2112 which is related to the throttle body. i have researched this problem on the internet and discovered it's an extremely common and very serious problem with this vehicle. a recall needs to be issued before someone gets killed. *tr
