Noted mileage, date, and speeds approximate. vehicle has stalled several times (six to seven times since noted date). all times have been when accelerating from a stop or low speed. the stalls have been very dangerous because they occurred while attempting to enter traffic. check engine / service light comes on, but does not stay on. vehicle restarts after some attempt and the check engine / service light is gone. this needs to be investigated and resolved before someone gets killed! *tt
I was traveling approximately 35-40 mph when my car stalled, but not shutting off and the rpm fluttering between 1000-2000 rpm. my accelerator pedal would not allow me to press it to increase rpm or mph. next my check engine light came one and the wrench symbol as well. i call my local ford dealership/service and he explained it to be the accelerator throttle body and there is a national back order for this part. if this is the case there should be a national recall from the government or ford about this problem. *tr
Traveling 55mph on a main road in nc (rte 13). with no warning my engine loses all power. car is still on, but i cannot accelerate. i have to pull over on the side of the road. when i come to a stop the car is bucking. i have to turn the car off, wait a minute then start it again to "correct" the bucking. the engine light and a light in shape of a wrench come on simultaneously. i drive a little bit further and the same thing happens. i use the same procedure five more times to get it to the auto shop, where i'm told i need a new throttle body. mine is sticking open. 5,600 are on back order, so i have no idea how long it will take to get vehicle repaired. *tr
I was driving about 55 mph when the wrench dashboard indicator light comes on. at the same time my gas pedal ceases to work and car speed decreases. i have to coast onto the shoulder of the road. thankfully brakes work. car is still running. i turn car off and wait a minute. turn back on. it starts. light is gone and car feels shuddery but continues running. *tr
Driving with cruise control set at 60mph, cruise disengaged, stepped on gas no throttle response pulled over and shut vehicle down restarted and proceeded home. next day went to my escape started vehicle and service engine light came on and remained on throughout the day. called my ford dealer to set up appointment to bring in the car for inspection. was given a appointment in 3 days time (july 18,2013 @11:30am) was told by service advisor that it would be okay and safe to keep driving the car. following day went to a meeting with my car, service engine light did not come on. while driving home the vehicle lost power and once again no throttle. dealer service called and reported that the throttle assembly required replacement, asked if this was a known problem with the escape and was told that there have been issues with the throttle assembly but no recall to date was told to keep the paid bill once the work was completed in case of a recall and reimbursement. *tr
On july 14 2013, my vehicle 2010 ford escape xlt stalled in the middle of the highway. the vehicle was traveling at 60 mph when the incident occurred. after the stall, the vehicle did not respond to gas pedal. it slowed down. i was able to pull the vehicle to safety lane. during the incident, the wrench sign appeared on the dashboard indicator. after the vehicle came to complete stop, i was able to restart the vehicle. i drove the vehicle to the dealership service center at reduced speed of 25 mph. they diagnosed that the issue is with the throttle body and mentioned that the whole throttle body needs to be replaced. *tr
Vehicle appears to be stalling out at random times. when this happens, there is no power from the gas pedal and no rpm movement. an orange wrench light comes on when the failure occurs. must pull over and turn engine completely off and restart to correct. the engine sputters for several seconds upon restart before turning back on. this process often has to repeated multiple times throughout the course of a single trip. vehicle was taken to a local auto care shop on 8/1/13 and it was determined the throttle body assembly is malfunctioning. was told by the service representative that there is a national back order on the part from ford and it could take up to a month to get the part in. the quote for the repair was $420 (including the cost of labor). upon further research of the issue over the internet it was determined that over 725,000 complaints have been filed over the same issue on the ford escapes, yet no recall has taken effect. *tr
I was driving down the highway at 70mph and my vehicle lurched, knocked, and then began to slow down no matter how much i pushed the gas pedal. i made it to the side of the road and once completely stopped, the vehicle vibrated until put in park. i turned my vehicle off and waited about 5 mins and then restarted it. everything appeared to be fine, so i began to drive down the highway again. within 2 miles, the same incident happened again. i made it to the closest auto zone and they diagnosed my vehicle with a trouble code p2111, throttle body stuck open. they sent me to a locally owned body shop, where they too, diagnosed my vehicle with the trouble code p2111. i managed to make it back home and take it to my ford shop, where they confirmed the trouble code of p2111, so they replaced my throttle body. unfortunately, my vehicle was no longer under warranty, so it came out of my pocket to replace the part. my ford had the nerve to mention this has been a recurring problem they are seeing, which is why they already had a throttle body in stock. this should be sent to recall; it is dangerous, and has affected many people from what i've read. *tr
My 17 year old daughter has had two occurrences of the vehicle losing all power within the last two days (7/10/2013 and 7/11/2013). once she was starting from a red light and the other she was driving down the road. both times she was able to pull off to the side of the road and start the car and continue travel. *tr
After sitting with my car running in a parked position for approximately one minute, i put the car in drive. i drove for an estimated 30 seconds. then i stopped to check for oncoming traffic before pulling out into an intersection. when i pressed the gas to make a right turn onto that major road, the yellow/orange "wrench" sign immediately popped up. simultaneously, my car began to rumble and shake. in addition, despite pressing the gas pedal, my car was not accelerating. i immediately pulled onto the shoulder of the road, which was difficult to do since my car was struggling to move. i turned the car off and restarted it. it was difficult to get the car to restart. it struggled and sounded like it was going to stall out, but after approximately ten seconds, it started up. now, in addition to the "wrench" light, my escape also had the check engine symbol lit up. even though i was sitting on the side of the road with my car running in the parked position, my car was still rumbling and shaking. interesting to note, i was actually on the way home from the ford service department where i had just had my car serviced for a seemingly unrelated problem. the day before the throttle went, my back passenger tire became stuck in a locked position, and i was unable to drive. i had to pump my brakes, and put my emergency brake (which had not been engaged) on and off several times to unlock the back passenger tire. ford determined this incident was due to water getting on the brake shoe which made it stick to the brake drum. they cleaned, readjusted and lubricated my rear brakes (drums, shoes, etc) and sent me on my way. my throttle went while i was on my way home from the service department at ford where they had just fixed my brake issue. i had to be towed back to ford since my car was not able to run. *tr
I was driving my 2010 ford escape at about 65 miles per hour on the new jersey turnpike when all of a sudden the wrench light came on and i lost power in the engine. i was in the middle lane of a 4 lane highway and had to get over to the shoulder. the engine never shut off but would not go over 5 mph. i shut the engine down and restarted the car and everything was fine. i had 70 miles to go so i decided to try to drive on and everything was fine for 40 miles when it did it again. i got over to the shoulder, shut the engine off and restarted and was able to make it to my destination. i have an appointment to take the car to a ford dealership to get it fixed on thursday. the dealership told me that they were familiar with this issue and that the throttle control need to be replaced. i have looked online and have seen hundreds and hundreds of posts from owners that are having the same issue. what gives. if ford know about this, shouldn't they take care of it! *tr
Driving on 2 lane hwy in 55mph zone in passing lane and came up to red light. when light changed, stepped on gas pedal and had no acceleration. vehicle had only an idling, surging rough motion that allowed it to slowly move onto the grass median. caused several cars to back up before vehicle was out of traffic. restarted vehicle and engine ran a rough idle w/ the wrench and engine lights on. ironic, that another ford escape owner stopped to help and told me his 2009 had just had same symptoms the week before and he told me his was throttle body and it was over $500 to repair. diagnosis at ford was code p2112 (throttle stuck closed). solution was to replace electronic throttle body. seems to be a familiar issue w/ ford dealer as they had just gotten parts this week after being back ordered last week. questioned customer service rep to see if new part was same manufacturer as old part. he informed me that new part was from a new manufacturer. seems like another situation of lowest cost vendor syndrome and ford should have to stand behind their procurement/engineering decisions. just thankful that i did not get rear-ended while stuck in the passing lane in a 55mph zone. *tr
I was driving 55mph and the escape suddenly lost power, decelerating and coming to a stop. the powertrain light came on and the vehicle had a difficult time turning over. the vehicle was taken to a dealership where nothing was found. the incident then occurred again a week later at the same speed. this time the check engine light and oil pressure light came on as well. the vehicle would only start in neutral and then it was taken to the stop. this time it was determined that the throttle body sensor needed to be replaced. *tr
The escape engine stopped providing power and the accelerator stopped responding. the car engine went to idle. after pulling over shutting car off then on again the engine began responding. this happened about 10 times before getting the car to a service dealer. the problem was identified as a failed throttle body. the dealer indicated that these parts are on a 10 day back-order due to so many vehicles having the same failure and parts are not available due to surge in demand. *tr
Vehicle stalls while driving , stalls while idle , rpm's spike while driving !!! scary !! codes read p2112 . (throttle stuck open ) thinking bad throttle body ? *tr
i currently have a 2010 ford escape with 47,000 miles on it . on wednesday july 3 2013 i was returning home from doing errands, and my ford escape came to a complete stop. the vehicle would not move. there were no warning lights on the dash informing me that there was a problem. fortunately, i had just turned into the lane to my house and was not on a major highway. we had the vehicle towed to a local dealer who informed us that it is the electronic throttle body. we contacted ford corporation and reported the issue, they said that this is not under warranty and there has been no issues with this part in the past. ford gave us a case number and said that it would take up to four days to determine if they will cover the repair. i had my seven year old grandson with me that day, and all i keep thinking about is what if that would have happen on a busy highway with cars going the speed of 55mph and higher. *tr
Was driving on the 101 in phoenix arizona and the car started jerking. luckily i was close to an exit so i got off. i turned off the car, restarted it, and started to drive. i drove about 100 feet and it stalled. i was able to restart the car and drive it a half mile to a gas station. however, the car was jerking the whole time. the official word was that the throttle was the issue. *tr
I was driving on i35 e in lewisville, tx when the vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating, i had been traveling at approx 40 mph in rush hour traffic. the vehicle/engine was still on but i could not continue forward. i exited the highway and glided into a parking lot ( after nearling being killed by a large truck on the service road) the wrench light came on as well as the engine light. i pulled into a parking space and the vehicle started to violently shake. i put in park and turned the vehicle off. i waited a few minutes and started the vehicle with no issues. the vehicle idled fine and i could rev up the engine. i drove around the parking lot with no issues however the check engine light was still on. i tried going onto a residential street and when i accelerated above 20mph the vehicle would no longer accelerate and had to pull over and had the same before mentioned results. i called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed. i called a local ford dealership and i was advised it was most likely an electronic throttle body issue and they have them come in all the time. this needs to be recalled immediately as this very well could have cause a major accident. *tr
While at stop light when attempting to take off nothing happened as gas pressed. vehicle stalled restart and drove fine. made service appointment had to wait 6 days. meantime the rpm fluctuated at idle and acted as if wanted to stall. i was afraid to drive the car. went in for service told it was the mass air flow valve sensor. we cleaned, car ran fine for a week then we stalled while driving 65 mph on i-75. replaced the maf sensor but no change to the rmps. took car back to dealer they stated it could be abs related kept the car overnight to call and tell me they could not find a trouble but they suspect it was the electronic throttle control but could not back that in writing. i drove the car home (less than 10 miles) ran in house get something and the car stalled in driveway. restarted stalled three more times. how can i be told there is no problem and three mechanics drove it on three different drives and i get in the car and it occurs immediately. i feel lied to and don't think i will ever be comfortable driving a ford car. this was my first and it will be my last. ford does not stand behind their product and their customer care in poor. it has been 11 days and the car is unreliable and i don't feel i can trust the ford dealership. *tr
Accelerated to merge into traffic and my 2010 ford escape started to act like it was going to stall when i pressed on the gas pedal. ever time i tried to accelerate it felt like it was "choking" and wanted to stall. i had to put the vehicle in neutral and press on the gas to keep it from stalling. i had my vehicle towed to the dealership and was told that the throttle body needed to be replaced. in addition to the fact the throttle body needs to be replaced i am now being told there is a nationwide back order on the part and i will not get the repair completed for 2-3 weeks. i am 1-1/2 months passed warranty with only 26,000 miles and neither ford nor the dealership will loan me a vehicle while my car sits at the dealership nor will this even be considered warranty work. *tr
While pressing the accelerator the car shuts off and comes to a slow stop. your are not able to accelerate. the wrench light comes on first. i stop the car, turn it off, wait about 10sec and turn the car back on. it starts fine. i travel about 6 miles and the car stops again, this time jerking back and forth a little and then the check engine light comes on. i stop the car and follow the same steps on turning it back on. i am still able to break and steer off of roads. however, not with much time before it completely stops. i took it to advanced auto parts and got the vehicle diagnosed. the code was p2112/throttle actuator per the representative. this is highly dangerous when traveling on the highway or any busy roadway during rush hour traffic everyday to and from work. *tr
While driving the vehicle began sputtering and then would not accelerate and would barely move when pushing the gas pedal. it was diagnosed initially as the throttle actuator stuck open. it was cleaned. i drove it and less than 24 hours later it lost acceleration on a major highway at a traveling speed of 65 mph. i had to pull over 3 times and restart it to get it to a car repair place. i ended up having to have it towed to a ford dealership where they replaced the throttle actuator motor. the diagnostic code was p2111. i asked for the old part and it did not look worn or damaged. the repeated loss of acceleration on a major highway during morning rush hour created a great risk to my safety and those of the other motorists around me. the service man at the ford dealership advised me they were seeing a number of similar situations involving this part with ford escapes. the total cost for both service visit was $465.00. *tr
Traveling at 65 mph engine suddenly drops in rpm to about 600 - 900 rpm and check engine light comes on. pulled car to side of road, shut it off and restarted. engine ran fine and was later inspected. obd indicates throttle body malfunction and requires replacement. *tr
Car stalled and quickly slowed down in heavy traffic and had to pull onto a narrow shoulder with lots of debris. car would then allow me to speed up again and repeat the rapid stall until ultimately going into limp mode. was later found to be the throttle body that was said to be on back-order for three weeks since so many others were having the same issue with their escapes and that ford had a redesign in work. had to pay my extended warranty co-pay since ford has no recall for this issue. *tr
2010 ford escape v6 awd - built june 14, 2010 while driving on major local road, vehicle lost almost all power. "wrench" (throttle control/powertrain warning) light came on. vehicle slowed to a roll with gas pedal providing no acceleration. after coming to a stop vehicle would only accelerate to between 2-4 mph. vehicle was able to be driven to dealer about a mile away after sitting on shoulder for 15-20 minutes. dealership diagnosed problem as a failed throttle body and replaced under warranty with a deductible charge. this would have been a dangerous situation had the vehicle been merging, etc. at the time. *tr
Vehicle lost power while driving. the wrench light came on and the the car died. the check engine light came on and it was showing code p2111 for the throttle body. *tr
While driving in the middle lane of heavy traffic, my vehicle suddenly became unresponsive. even though i had my foot on the accelerator, the vehicle would not accelerate and the engine started sputtering. the wrench light came on. i had to coast to the right lane in front of on-coming traffic to get off the road and to safety.the approaching vehicle had to slam on his breaks and narrowly missed colliding with me. if the vehicle had been any closer or if i would have been on the interstate, i would have had a serious crash with someone being badly injured or killed. this is a very serious problem. i just read about another 2010 ford escape owner that the same thing happened to them four times and they could not fix the problem. i am afraid of driving this vehicle again and i believe ford is aware of this happening should be held responsible to investigate and correct this problem before people are killed. *tr
This incident was the second one within one month. while driving at 30 mph, the engine, although did not cut off completely, it slowed down to lowest possible rpm, reducing the vehicle speed from 30mph to about 3 mph. both myself and my wife were lucky in that there were no vehicles behind us for they for sure would have run into us. we took the car to the dealership where we originally purchased it and they told us what the problem was, stating that they have had many vehicles returned for the same problem and we would have to wait for replacements parts because there is a shortage of parts due to demand. needless to say they are charging us 440 dollars to replace the valve body. *tr
Escape sputtered & stalled. restarted & was serviced by ford to 'clean' the throttle body. within a few days, it exhibited the same behavior but much more frequent rendering the car unreliable. replacement parts are not available from the dealer for another 3-4 weeks. *tr
The first incident happened as i was leaving work. i'd just pulled out of our parking lot onto the highway when my car failed to accelerate. a wrench symbol light came on and i coasted to the side of the highway, turned it off, let it sit for a moment and then restarted my car. i made it about 7 miles when the same thing happened. i pulled into a parking lot and used my phone to google the symptoms on a ford forum. it stated that there were in fact several incidents stating the exact same problems. and that after restarting their vehicles, it resets itself. so i continued home. it happened 2 more times before i made it home only now the check engine light was on as well. i called ford and they stated there was in fact an issue with the throttle body affecting several ford vehicles. i had my car towed to ford where they diagnosed that it was in fact the throttle body. however, this part is now on a national backorder. i am the 13th person at my local dealership needing this part in order to drive my vehicle. i have children and i refuse to put their lives at risk in this vehicle. they cleaned the throttle body and said this was a band aid fix until the part came in which by the way has no eta.this band aid repair lasted less than 24 hours. i have the extended warranty and it will cover this repair but i'm going to have to pay $100 deductible for it to be fixed. why am i having to pay out of pocket for a problem that is not specific to my vehicle? they have posted bulletins but still no recall. is it going to take someone being killed before they do something about this. i'm having to depend on rides from friends to get to and from work, to get to the grocery store, to pick up my children. my extended warranty will cover 2 days of a rental. ford says they can't offer me a loaner vehicle. please make them do something about this... *tr
Leaving home check engine light and throttle lights came on and the vehicle was jerking and would allow me to give it any gas. *tr
I drive a 2010 ford escape and it will lose power while driving. once power drops out, the vehicle may only be driven at about 20 miles per hour or less and sounds/drives rough. i pull over, shut vehicle off, wait a minute or so and re-start and it will run fine. then at some later point will randomly quit again. a little wrench shows up on the corner of the screen but goes away and resets itself when the vehicle is re-started so no information there to assist with this issue when connected to a computer. *tr
I was traveling on the interstate at 75 mph, when i lost engine power. i was able to pull off the highway. the engine was still running at an idle speed but would not increase rpm upon pressing accelerator with the suv in park. i turned off the engine for about two minutes. i restarted the suv and proceed back down the highway. after about 25 miles, it did the same thing. i turned off the engine and restarted. everything appeared to be fine. since i was out of town, i decided to head back. i drove 125 miles without further incident. i took into the ford dealership for repair. it was diagnosed as the throttle body with a repair code of p2111. the dealership service department cleaned the throttle body. i drove the suv for two weeks and it started to shut down again. the part was order on july 11 and still has not been received by the dealership. i have been told it is on national back order. this indicates to me that this is a serious problem with a lot of other vehicles. i live in a small town and i am aware of two other vehicles with the same issue. *tt
First time i noticed a problem with the car it started to surge at a stop light. this has happened a few times in the last month. then while driving on the freeway at approx. 65 mph the car stalled out and had to pull over. turned off vehicle and then restarted car and drove it straight to the dealership. dealership checked codes and said throttle body assembly failed. part is on back order. this is a huge safety concern! *tr
Twice in less than 24 hours, the car went into "limp home" mode complete with wrench indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the engine dropped and would not come above 1000 rpm, and would allow the vehicle to lurch forward at no more than 15-20 miles per hour. the first incident occurred on 6/24 at an intersection, upon the light turning green. as i accelerated to go through the intersection, the vehicle dropped into "limp" mode and forced a left turn to park and turn off the engine. doing so and allowing it to sit for a few minutes got it to reset and not happen again on my way home. the second occurrence was the morning of 6/25, in the middle of i-95 on my way to work; approximate speed was 55-60 miles per hour. thankfully, i was in the far right lane and able to drift to the shoulder to repeat last night's procedure. considering the negative press the "limp home" mode and throttle body assembly get from various forums recounting very similar occasions to my own experience, this needs to be a recall before somebody gets killed! a tsb or "suggested solution" is not enough! *tr
My 2010 ford escape limited has completely lost power when driving on four different occasions. the vehicle will be running find and then you suddenly lose all power. i took the vehicle to my local dealer and they informed me that it was a problem with the electronic throttle body. they also informed me that they did not have the replacement part and were unsure of when they could get it. i find it very dangerous driving a vehicle that could suddenly lose power at anytime. although i believe ford should have to replace these defective parts, ford could at least be responsible enough to have these parts so that i could at least pay to have my vehicle fixed. *tr
On june 23, 2013 driving on street about 25 m.p.h. when car suddenly dropped in speed to almost an idle. after pulling to side of road, was able to turn around and return home at about 1 m.p.h. fortunately, there were no vehicles behind me, otherwise, because of the abrupt stopping of the vehicle a rear end accident would have occurred. ford roadside service towed car to kindle ford, cape may court house, nj on monday june 24, 2013. i was later advised by the service department that the vehicle needed a throttle body assembly at a cost of $378.00 and that it was not covered under the power train warranty period. worse yet, i was told that the part was back ordered, service could give no date when the part would be available, as it was on nationwide back order and could be several weeks or more before the part was available. no loner car was offered for use during this unreasonable delay. *tr
For the last couple of weeks while at stop lights or when the car was just idling i notice the car would shake/sputter/hesitate, like it was not getting enough fuel to the engine to idle, every once in a while but it did not stall out completely it would recover. then while driving home on june 23, 2013 at 40mph i took my foot off of the gas pedal for a second to begin to slow down as i was approaching a red light, however, the light changed before i got to the intersection and then the car made a shutter/thud not a loud sound but you knew something has just happened, i thought maybe my transmission had just gone out because when i was pressed on the gas pedal it did not respond. i pushed the pedal all the way to the floor but nothing happened. i could not tell if the car really stalled out it seemed more like the gas pedal was just not responding. i lost speed rapidly and coasted into a parking lot. the first time i restarted the car the gas pedal still did not work but the car did go into gear so i thought it must not be the transmission. the second time i restarted the car i gave the gas pedal a couple of pumps before putting into gear to make sure it was responding that worked and i made it home. the car did hesitate and sputter when i was sitting still at the lights so i would put it in park and rev the engine until the light changed. i took the car to a ford dealership the next day and they informed me that the throttle body needs to be replaced and of course that is an out of pocket expense as my warranty is expired. how many of these complaint have to be filed before ford has to admit this is there fault for putting faulty throttle bodies in these cars and issues a recall ? *tr
When driving to the grocery store on sunday, june 23, my boyfriend and i pulled up to a stop sign and then attempted to accelerate to cross 4 lanes of traffic. the car bucked and would not accelerate. then the gas pedal began to shake. we had to roll across the street and shut the car off for a few minutes. the car turned over twice and then finally started up. the second incident happened on thursday, june 27. my boyfriend and i were on our way home and pulled up to a stop sign. again, pushing on the gas pedal would not cause the car to accelerate. we had to roll across the intersection and turn the car off. the car turned over about 3 or 4 times and then started. we took the car into a local ford dealership on tuesday, july 2, and were told after a few hours of waiting, that the car has a throttle body issue. the dealer told us the part costs $399 and the labor would be $100. we had to pay $244.05 up front and we were told that the part is on backorder and will take approximately 1 month to come in. my car also has low enough mileage (29,400) that it still has a 5 year powertrain warranty (which covered the engine) but were told that warranty doesn't cover the throttle body. so now, we are out $244 (it will be at least $500 once the part comes in) and don't have the use of our car (we are a one car family) with no relatives, etc. close by to borrow a car from. *tr
While driving home from louisville headed back to cincinnati my daughter experienced our vehicle stalling out at highway speeds 3 different times. she was able to work her way over to the side of the road and restart the vehicle each time. however this was very scary as at highway speeds the sudden loss of power and speed caused traffic to almost rear end her vehicle on two of the three occasions. when i contacted the local ford dealer upon safely returning home they made it sound like it was an issue with the throttle body and that this is a very common problem in these vehicles. i was also told by my son that i needed to report this because this is a widespread problem. he did a quick google search and was able to see the investigation into this issue. please do something about this before there is innocent loss of life. *tr
On saturday, june 22, 2013, i drove 2.5 hours north for one of my best friends weddings. i was on the interstate with cruise control set at about 70 mph when suddenly my car lost power. i was in the left lane with a semi behind me. luckily the semi driver was paying attention and was able to move into the right lane before rear-ending me. i was able to move on the shoulder of the interstate and come to a stop. as i did, my escape acted as though it was going to die but did not completely. i noticed an open-ended wrench in the bottom left of my instrument panel and my check engine light was on. i turned the car off and looked through the manual to figure out what the wrench light meant. it said throttle control/powertrain. i was running late to begin with so i started freaking out. i turned my escape back on and everything seemed to be fine. both lights went off so i put it in drive and got back on the interstate without any more problems. at first i thought maybe it was cruise control going out so i didn't use it the rest of the way. once i got off the interstate, i stopped at a light and when the light changed i proceeded through it with my escape stalling as soon as i turned, along with both lights back on. i knew it was something other than the cruise. once i got to the nearest town, i stopped at autozone and had them test it. their computer showed tps/throttle body failure. i immediately started doing some research to find this part since autozone doesn't carry it. i was surprised to find out that no one can get this part and ford has been on back order for quite a few months. after the wedding, i drove back home with my car stalling many more times. since then, it happens at least once a day, if not more. twice, my car has stalled in the middle of a very busy highway intersection on my way to work, freaking me out i was going to get hit. help needed soon! *tr
I was driving along and all of a sudden my 2010 ford escape went from around 35 mph on a busy road to a rough idle. the engine was still running but would not respond to pressing on the gas pedal, it just stayed running on a rough idle. i continued on at 3 miles an hour waving cars to pass me until i found a safe place to pull over. i waited 20 minutes before starting the vehicle and it then ran normally. so i went on and about 5 miles further it did it again. i had to pull over and i restated the engine in just a few minutes again. it did it again and again sometimes i would only need to shut it off for a second. i took it into the ford dealer and they charged me $125.00 for a diagnostic test to tell me it was the throttle body (ford would not cover the test). they didn't have the part in stock and told me it was on back order as the ford chicago warehouse was out of them. the ford service writer also told me they have replaced a number of them since his hiring just three months prior. he first told me a dirty air filter caused the part to fail, when i explained to him i know what a dirt air filter is and i don't have one. then he said it was because i didn't drive my car enough and there was carbon buildup causing it. so i asked him if ford was saying they don't build a good enough engine. he admitted he was just reading the print out. they wouldn't honor my power-train warranty of 5 years or 50,000 miles. i wrote a letter and personally delivered it to the ford dealer and no one has bothered to contact me and it's been eight days now. the mechanic actually tried to sell me tires and gave me bogus reasons why the back two needed to be replaced and the back to have 7/32 left according to a real tire store's salesman and are almost like new. i have been a loyal ford man all my life. i may never buy another ford and it will not be from this dealership if i do! *tr
Problem occurred several times and appears to be more frequent. the first time it occurred i was driving 55 miles per hour and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the gas pedal did nothing, the car did not accelerate. i had to pull over and shut the car off. when i started the car beck up it hesitated, the check engine light turned off, and worked fine. the same thing happened approximately 2 weeks later. now i noticed that the rpm gauge fluctuates quite a bit when i start the car and then again when i am stopped at a traffic light. today, i was driving with no problem and stopped because the car in front me was stopped to make a turn. when i tried to continue driving, my car stalled and i had to turn it off and then back on. there were a line of cars behind me and i was almost rear-ended. *tr
Driving at 40mph, lost power. was told today at ford service dept that it is a failed throttle body. *tr
Accelerator stuck on off ramp and tried to push the vehicle through the intersection. this has happened on three different occasions. ford dealer can not duplicate problem. *tr
The vehicle stalled while driving on the highway at 60 mph. *tr
Driving during favorable conditions, after stop for traffic signal car began to lunge during take off acceleration. the powetrain/throttle control light on dash illuminated. had vehicle towed to dealership where they diagnosed bad throttle body and reported shortage of part, anticipating 30 day wait for availability. *tr
Was driving on the highway when car lurched forward and then proceeded to coast. i pressed gas pedal but nothing happened. i had to steer through traffic to get to the shoulder where the car started to stumble like it was going to die. i shut off engine and restarted, it started normal so i proceeded home. i had less than a mile to home yet it died 2 more times. this is a huge safety problem seeing how you're dead in the water when the car malfunctions! it takes a lot to scare me but seeing how i was responsible for the safety of my wife and 4 yr old son, it scared me half to death! *tr
Was driving along at about 30mph when the engine cut down to what i would later find out was "limp home mode". the wrench and engine lights went on and the vehicle became unresponsive to the accelerator. i had traffic behind me and was going up a hill which i was barely able to sputter to the top off before turning off the vehicle. i tried starting it again and it hard started but idled fine and ran fine for about 50 yards before the same thing happened again. luckily, i was able to roll onto a neighborhood street and pull over. i eventually chanced a drive to the dealer and made it there without the vehicle failing. i was later told that it was a failure of the throttle body and the part was on backorder for 1-2 weeks. i saw that the 2005-2012 escapes are being investigated by the nhtsa for this issue so i assume backorder wait is because the part has been failing with frequency. although it did not cause an accident, the sudden change in responsiveness of the vehicle and the failure to accelerate could have easily lead to an accident and/or bodily injury. as it is, i am without my vehicle for 1-2 weeks. *tr
The vehicle either stalled or went into safe or limp home mode while traveling around 70 mph on the interstate. this happened during a busy traffic time causing other vehicles to brake hard to avoid an accident. i with my 3 year old son were stranded on the side of the highway until someone was able to get the car back home for me. it was a scary and dangerous situation. p2112 was the code that was read when we had it looked at. apparently an issue with the throttle body. *tr
