Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle experienced a loss of power, jerked, and the wrench icon illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road. when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it resumed normal operation. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Exhaust hose under vehicle drive side leaked causing exhaust creep into cabin with excessive strong gas smell inside and outside cabin both stationary and in motion.

While driving in a variety of circumstances, (in town at stoplight and accelerating on highway) my 2010 ford escape will just shut off. no warning, just dies. i have been to 4 mechanics including one at a ford dealer just today. no codes show, so every time i am basically told that they "can't duplicate issue" and i am sent on my way with no remedy for what is a very dangerous malfunction. i just called ford and started a case number to see what they will do. judging from other comments i have read on internet, i am not hopeful. i cannot understand why a recall wasn't issued and how i am just learning about the scope of the problem now-after spending $20k on this vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 75 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road, turned on the hazard lights, shifted into neutral, and attempted to restart the vehicle, but it failed to start. the contact quickly shifted into park and powered off the engine. when the contact attempted to restart the vehicle, the engine sounded as if it were about to start, but it did not. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. a friend of the contact's family googled the failure, which indicated to reset the fuel pump switch located on the front passenger side. the fuel pump switch was reset and the vehicle was able to drive normally. on another occasion, while driving and slowing down, the vehicle hesitated to stop. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 137,000.

Vehicle has taken to stalling/dying without warning. this has happened three times in the past week. the car was in gear and going approximately 20-25 mph each time this occurred. fortunately, i was on residential streets with 25 mph limits and no cars were in the immediate vicinity on each occasion.

The vehicle flex fuel system is horrible and the vehicle shuts off for no apparent reason. we have have had the vehicle inspected and reviewed by mechanics, who come back with one issue, the flex fuel set up. so we ordered and replaced the flex fuel pipe 2 times now. the engine light still continues to pop back on after a couple of days go by. the car shutting off while driving is a safety issue. this vehicle was purchased for my 16 year old daughter from a dealership less than a year ago. i am scared to death she will crash when the vehicle shuts off on the interstate. the 2011 recall ford issued covered the same type of issue, which in my opinion should be expanded. my daughter just called and stated that the car shut off 5 times in the course of a mile. luckily, she was local.

The "check fuel fill inlet" came on a couple of miles after filling gas and stayed on. after a few more miles, the engine light came on and stayed on ever since. i have had the same problem 4 months ago, but my mechanic said it is a malfunction in the computer so we replaced the computer. but the problem came back. i have looked online for solutions and it seems many other ford escape users have had the same problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact purchased the vehicle from a private owner. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v284000 (steering) and 16v777000 (fuel system, gasoline), but had not been repaired prior to being purchased by the contact. shortly after she purchased the vehicle, there was a sudden loss of power and the check engine and other unknown warning indicators flickered. also, all of the instrument panel gauges failed to function. the vehicle was unable to be safely driven. a dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 211,000.

My vehicle has been idling very roughly when i come to a complete stop while in drive. while in park my vehicle idles normally but after coming to a stop it begins idling so rough it feels as if the car is shaking.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 45 mph, the fuel fill inlet and check engine indicators illuminated. the contact stated that she experienced issues with starting the engine and that the starter hesitation began after the vehicle was serviced per an unknown recall regarding the fuel tank. the contact spoke with gene latta ford inc (1565 carlisle st, hanover, pa 17331, (717) 633-1999) and informed them of the failures. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 120,000.

While driving down the highway at 60 mph, the car suddenly and without warning shuts off. i was not able to pull safely over and nearly caused several accidents as this was during my normal morning rush hour commute. it is a very serious safety concern for me. mechanic said he test drove the car and was unable to experience the sudden shut down. additionally, this happened on city streets at approximately 35 mph, same thing suddenly and without warning the car shuts down.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, she had to force the key into the ignition in order to start the engine. it sometimes took several minutes to get the vehicle to start. the vehicle was taken to diers ford lincoln (2445 n broad st, fremont, ne) where it was diagnosed that the steering and ignition failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000. *tt

Engine stalls and wont idle engine code po2111

While driving, the wrench light comes on and the engine loses power. when i turn the engine off and back on the light may go out but will come on again after driving. i was told by the dealer this is problem with the throttle. i have had this repaired twice, the first under a recall. i had to pay for the second repair. now it is happening again all within about 2 years. this is very dangerous while driving in traffic and at highway speeds. i was told that this is due to a faulty part that ford knows about. this needs to be corrected asap before someone is seriously hurt because of it.

2010 ford escape was pulling out of a parking spot, foot off the accelerator, but vehicle proceeded to gain speed and go forward striking another vehicle. unintended acceleration

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v777000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the contact stated that the check engine indicator and check fuel message illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to the chapman ford of horseman dealer who read the diagnostic code and cleared it to have the message and warning indicator disabled. shortly after, the same warning indicator and message returned. the contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who verified the same diagnostic code and informed the contact that the warning indicator and message would more than likely continue until the recall remedy was completed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the part for the recall repair would not be available until october of 2017. the approximate failure mileage was 128,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Escape randomly stalls out and is unresponsive. can be driving on highway, a mile for home or on 45mph streets. unable to reproduce but happens at least once a week. ford will not fix because they cannot reproduce. this is dangerous and unacceptable. not acceptable to have a car randomly stall out on any street and manufacturer not willing or can't fix. have seen other people reporting the same issue with their ford escapes but no resolution and no help from ford. i've contacted dealerships and ford service with same disappointing response. keep spending money having dealership look at it in hopes they can reproduce it. not a good use of anyone's time or money to do this when this seemingly is a problem that ford is aware of based on my research.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle failed to respond and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v777000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 61,100. vin tool confirms parts not available. updated 06/15/17*lj *js updated 9/27/18*jb

Engine stalling. over the last year i have been having problems with my ford escape randomly stalling. i have had it at 2 different mechanics and both have been unable to figure out the cause. i did some online research and others has similar issues. they stated the cause was the throttle body. i had that replaced. i am having less of these episodes, but stalling is still occurring occasionally. the stalling always occurs when i am slowing down to stop at either a stop sign or traffic light.

Car keeps shutting down on me bought the car with 65000from what i'm reading ford should be fixing this problem.

Despite having the throttle body replaced, the vehicle still suffers from minor power surges and has stalled at highway speeds several times. these happen so randomly that it is difficult to predict when this might happen. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated to 30 mph without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body was contaminated and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 30 mph, the service vehicle soon warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle lost power. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred on ten separate occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage and vin were unknown.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost power on several occasions. the contact also stated that the brake pedal stalled and the vehicle accelerated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 64,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when depressing the accelerator pedal. the driver coasted to the side of the road, restarted the vehicle, and resumed driving. the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that a code p2112 failed, and the throttle body stock closed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact referenced action number: pd12006. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

Car stalls and runs erratic and check engine light displayed. auto repair place diagnosed the problem related to the throttle body which has already been identified and is covered under a ford customer satisfaction agreement from what i was told.

Car started stalling on a busy interstate and was brought to the next exit by driving on the shoulder and repeatedly restarting the engine. the local firestone garage seems to have fixed the problem by replacing the throttle body.

Electronic throttle body is causing major issues while driving

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. in addition, after fueling the vehicle, the engine warning light illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the purge valve needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

I had turned off the highway and was traveling down a busy road when my car completely stopped without warning. luckily, i was in the right lane and on a bit of a downward slope and was able to steer the "dead" car off the road. i turned off the engine and waited a minute. i turned on the car and it started again. i am concerned as i do a lot of highway driving and if my car suddenly stops like that again, there could be dire consequences. the earliest a dealer can look at my car is january 8th. my local dealer - january 14th. today is december 28th. after reading some of these reports, i am afraid to drive it. meanwhile, i need to rent a car, until someone at a ford dealer is able to look at it this is not the first time this has happened. however, after previously having the car towed to a dealership - i thought the problem was resolved.

There is a possable throttle body problem on my vehicle ( i was sent a extended warranty) the dealer says the engine may just quit at any time with loss of all power thats dangerous! the dealer says i must drive it until it fails (ford wants to save money)you can get killed driving the turnpike with this problem.

The vehilcle went into a mode where it was able to keep throttling and was about to stall. it would throttle up and down on its own while moving. powering off the vehicle corrected the issue for the time being.

Vehicle acts as if it is going to stall but them jumps forward. both the check engine light and the service wrench went on. took it to dealer and they told me it was code p2119, throttle actuator control and throttle body range/performance. dealership stated that i didn't need to get it fixed right away. seems a little dangerous to me.

My car sometimes suddenly just losing power. i could get killed on the freeway. from researching a bit i see it has something to do with the throttle body control. this has happened two time in the last two weeks. once as we get getting ready to get on the freeway and the second time as we were crossing a busy intersection, luckily we were able to get across the road without getting hit. i am afraid i have bought an unsafe car.

While driving my tool light came on and car lost power. pulled over to side of the road and turned off car. restarted car and light was off then car drove fine. took my car into bickford fford and was told they can't do anything because the light wasn't on so they can't get a code. how am i suppose to get get the extended warranty on throttle body issues if the light goes away when the car is turned off? i can't drive the car when this happens so how am i suppose to get this covered by ford? i'm suppose to drive my car with unsafe conditions until it permanently breaks down? seems like a scam.

On august 31, 2015 i was leaving an airport and accelerating to merge onto a highway. i believe i was close to 60mph when i felt something in my car change. all of the electronics were still working, so i knew it was not an issue with my battery. the wrench light appeared and i realized i was no longer able to accelerate. i immediately got over to the right lane and by this time my speed had dropped to 40mph. i was able to safely pull over and put my car into park. the rpms spiked and i turned my car off. after waiting a minute or so i was able to restart my car with no problem. i got back onto the highway and took my exit. maybe 5-7 miles from the location of the first incident, i was driving approximately 40mph down a 2-lane street when the same thing happened. this time both the wrench light and the engine light were on. once again i pulled over, put my car into park, the rpm's spiked higher this time. i shut my car off. i was again able to restart my car right away with no problem. in the 9 days since this happened i haven't experienced this problem again. i am extremely nervous my engine will shut off on a highway again, in a location where i will not be able to pull over safely. when i called ford they said my warranty covers the throttle body, so they have scheduled the throttle body repair for september 11, 2015. this is a very common problem, and i think ford needs to address this for the safety of all drivers.

the problem demonstrated as i left the shopping center and made the first turn onto the street. the engine was very rough and not consistent, the speed varied from 20 - 40 miles per hr without any pressure to the accelerator. as i came to a red traffic light i had almost no brake pressure and prepared to turn into a school parking lot. this occurred in the first half mile of country road; as i realized i had no braking power i turned into a park lot and called for a tow truck. fortunately there was little traffic that evening. this produced unnecessary anxiety for me even though i was close to home. our mechanic checked many things, finally deciding it was diagnostic codes po306, po316, po109, po 300, and po304. ford tells me this is not under warranty. once again i felt this problem placed me in a potentially life-threatening situation for me as the throttle body had done previously (before the recall). i have nearly 3 computer pages of problems with this vehicle, ranging from seat belt latches, rear seat latches, hatch latch and defroster, quarter panel paint defect and rust, fan speed and effectiveness. this latest incident and the throttle body issues are the most serious. tonight ford informed me there is no ford complaint form online. i was adamant that a ford engineer needs to call me so i can discuss all the issues with this vehicle. trade in value on this vehicle has probably plummeted due to all the issues. this vehicle was paid off in 3 years and i am not in a position to buy a new vehicle but i hope it will not be the death of me. in the interest of public safety i hope these problems can be resolved. after all the issues with this escape i wonder how many car "accidents" are really "accidents". thank you for reviewing this data. *tr

I was sitting at a red light and my car completely turned off. when i realized the traffic light turned green i removed my foot from the break and on the gas before i realized that the car was not moving. i put my foot back on the break, put the car in park, turned on my hazards and turned the engine off. after 3-4 tries i was able to get the car started again. this was very scary because i was in la county rush hour traffic at the time and there was no way for me to pull over since the car stalled while i was at a complete stop. i was in the middle of the street with no engine power.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. immediately after starting the vehicle, the engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. the technician diagnosed that the top of the fuel tank rotted out and the evap valve was defective. as a result, both needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 115,000.

We lost power from our gas pedal. then it got hot. then it would not move.

When i began to takeoff the engine or trans hesitated badly and the "wrench" light came on and stayed on until i turned off the engine. when i restarted the engine the wrench light did not come on. next day while driving the engine and transmission hesitated again and the wrench light came back on. this still continues.

While driving down the street, the vehicle suddenly seemed to stall. the 'wrench' light came on and the engine was still running but only moving at idle speed. pressing the accelerator did nothing, the engine kept stayed at idle. i pulled over and then turned off the engine. the car restarted and the wrench light was off. i accelerated up to street speed (30-35 mph) and the same thing happened again, the wrench light came on. i again pulled over, turned off the engine, and then restarted the car. this time the wrench light went off but the 'check engine' light came on and stayed on. i was able to drive the car where i needed to go by keeping it under 30 mph. i did make it to a auto-parts store and they were able to hook up a diagnostic machine to give me the p2111 trouble code, throttle body stuck open. when i restarted the car, the check engine light was off and i was able to accelerate up to 55 mph on the highway with no issues and later was on the interstate at 65-70 mph. nothing more happened over the next week but on my way to work this morning, 6/8, the same issue happened 5 times on my way to work. the car would just suddenly lose power and the engine would only run at idle speed. the wrench light came on each time. i would pull over and stop, as turning off the car while coasting and then restarting did not seem to 'reset' the car. when it restarted, the wrench light was gone but it came back on and the car stalled several times. after the third time, the check engine light came on again and it happened twice more after that. *tr

Purchased 2010 ford escape xlt in april 2015. (1) vehicle had sound coming from engine when accelerating. issued fixed by dealer replacing belt tensioner but noise has since returned. (2) vehicle already had or developed constant vibration at idle when in drive and foot on break and gets worse with a/c on. took to dealer 3 times who stated they replaced right engine mount and rear transmission mount but vibration continued after repairs. service dept tech stating that there is a strong vibration but that they are unable to determine engine vibration but that vehicle is operational. vibration is very strong and almost feels like engine wants to turn off at times. if transmission is put in neutral or park then vibration is gone and not noticeable while driving. (3) transmission shifting from 1st to 2nd is harsh and delayed at times causing a jerking motion on numerous occasions during city driving and transmission occasionally jerks when put in reverse but not always consistent. safety concern is vehicle feels as if it may shut down while this vibration is being observed and causes safety concerns when driving vehicle and that transmission may fail soon. purchased at fiat of fresno, fresno ca.

While moving in left of two lanes in moderate traffic at ~58 mph the car lost all power. accelerator did not function. 'wrench' warning light on dashboard was illuminated. all electrical equipment, power brakes, and power steering seemed to function normally. vehicle had no power, meaning that driver could not control speed of vehicle. right turn signal was activated and the vehicle was 'coasted' to the right berm -- almost being hit by another vehicle! driver sat in vehicle assessing status of all gauges and (warning) lights. nothing appeared out of ordinary except for 'wrench' light. vehicle was turned of. after 30 second pause, vehicle was restarted. wrench light was not illuminated and, again, all gauges and lights appeared normal. re-entered traffic and successfully reached grocery store -- 1 mile away. vehicle was parked. upon completion of shopping vehicle was started and driver was able to return home (~5 miles) without event recurring. this is an extremely dangerous situation. it is only through 'good luck' that our vehicle was not hit by other traffic. driver had zero control over vehicle speed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle hesitated and the speed decreased to 40 mph. the vehicle stalled. the contact was unable to steer the vehicle, but was able to pump the brakes and stop the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was determined that the gears in the transmission had been stripped. the check engine light, oil light, and battery light illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact stated that the dealer previously changed the fuel gasket twice, but that did not correct the failure. the vehicle was taken to another dealer who determined that the transmission failed. the vehicle had not been repaired. the contact spoke with the manufacturer in regards to a newsletter regarding replacing the throttle body and reprogramming the pcm under investigation pe13003. the manufacturer stated that the dealer did not feel the repair was warranted and the manufacturer declined to pay for the repair. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000.
