We have classified the 552 complaints from 2010 Ford Escape about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
While driving on a busy morning highway my throttle went out. i could not accelerate and had to immediately put on my hazard lights and find a way out of traffic, with no way to accelerate. i thought this might have been a one time fluke, until it happened two more times. my car service provider isn't able to do much for me since no warning sensors have been triggered during any event. the three occurrences were at speeds of 55, 25 and 60 mph. this is a dangerous and scary problem. what if i had not been able to get out of the way in time? when will ford be held fully accountable for the problems they have acknowledged having with escape throttles and their sensors? *tr
I was exiting off the highway and all of a sudden my vehicle shifted and then started losing speed and would not accelerate. i had to immediately pull over to the right side of the street and put on my hazard lights and bring the car to a complete stop. i then put the car in park and turned off the ignition and started it again and drove on home. it happened again the next day with me being aware that it may do it again. so i took it to a car repair shop and learned that the throttle body was the cause and has to be replaced. i have only had the car for 6 mos and it is not covered under my warranty. *tr
While on a two lane road driving 40 mph, the engine in my 2010 ford escape started to sputter as if it was going to die. it did not, but immediately after the incident i was no longer able to accelerate my vehicle. the engine did not rev, the car remained on but just coasted. i pulled over to the side of the road, turned off my car and turned it on again. i was then able to drive for approximately 7 minutes until the same problem occurred again. the next day i experienced the same problem on a 4 lane road going approximately 45 mph. this is a serious problem and could have had a fatal outcome. ford needs to recall the throttle body for all affected vehicles immediately!! *tr
Vehicle was moving. the gas pedal lost control for acceleration and the car came down to an idle and it's thrusting itself forward to move. the gas pedal would not react. the yellow wrench light came on. *tr
While driving at interstate speed vehicle lost all power and i was forced to pull over and stop. engine did not quit running, just nothing happens when gas peddle is pushed. shut off engine, then restarted it then ran find for a while, then does it again. very dangerous situation. on the 30 mile drive home this occurred about a dozen times. my mechanic is replacing the throttle body as i'm writing this. as i need my vehicle to get around i can't wait for a recall..my mechanic told me in my case the throttle body stuck closed. if it would have been stuck open it would accelerate instead of loosing all power. i don't want to thing what might have happened if that were the case. *tr
As i was entering my neighborhood, i noticed that the vehicle's gas pedal was no longer working. i looked at the dash and noticed that a wrench icon on the lower left of the instrument panel was lit. the escape was still going, but was not responding to the gas pedal. i turned on the hazard lights and pulled up to the curb and put the vehicle in park. i turned the vehicle off, counted to 10 and then started it again. i was able to continue driving and the vehicle again responded to the gas pedal. after some research, i found that my experience is termed "limp mode" and is itself a safety feature. i took the vehicle to an auto parts store who hooked it up to their diagnostic equipment and could not pull an error code off of it. the technician recommended i look into the throttle body and throttle position sensor. during that research, i found that other ford escape drivers have had the same experience. *tr
I was driving on the highway and suddenly the wrench lit up and my car began to slow down, even though i continued to hold down the gas pedal. i was able to get the side of the highway since it was late at night, but during rush hour, i would have created a pile up. the car started fine about 10 minutes later, but i took it to the dealership and was told that it was a throttle body problem and they are on back order and i would have to pay for a rental car or drive a car around that could randomly stall for the next week. i am currently waiting for the parts to come in. *tr
I was driving and the truck just stop. it would not go until i turned the car off and turn it back on again. then, it took off fast and slowed down again. we had to push the car home! luckily, we was not too far from home. we was on our way to church, instead pushing a heavy truck in our good clothes. a hot mess. we had this truck a out 11 months. i bought a warranty but guess what it did not cover the throttle body. its at the ford dealer causing $410.00 that i do not have; plus the part is on back order. it could take up to 3 weeks to get here. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle stalled as the wrench warning icon illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the part was on back order. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 27,500. updated 8/15/13 *cn the consumer stated ford paid for the installation of the throttle body. the repairs took one week. updated 08/22/13
Driving at 50 mph, engine went to idle and was unresponsive to throttle so car coasts to a stop. a warning light that looks like a wrench came on. this indicates a power train fault and a few days later the dealer diagnosed and replaced the throttle body. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the throttle control and engine lights. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
I was driving down the interstate heading to work when i lost all power. the vehicle did not die or stall, it lost power and the gas pedal would not work. as my speed started declining, i had to immediately turn on my emergency lights and move off the side of the road. which was hard at the time with other traffic in that lane. and the decreasing speed while i was in my lane had me nervous as other vehicles came up flying behind me. as soon as i pulled over on the side of the road, my car immediately died. i tried to turn it on after about ten minutes and the engine just rolled but would not come on. after about 25 minutes, my car started up again. i was able to get it to a dealership and they said right away that it was probably the throttle body, but that the part was on back order and would take up to a week to get in. after they checked it out, it was in fact the throttle body. i ended up lucking out because they did have a part for me. upon paying for my repair, i was told by the ford service department, that they had seen a major spike in this repair. they even said they once had 15 cars in one day that all needed the throttle body repaired. and that is why the part had originally been on back order. they also stated that they were not the only dealership noticing this spike. i was informed to keep all my paperwork because with this kind of spike, it could lead to a recall. *tr
While driving on the interstate and entering a ramp, the engine just lost power and there was a rapid deceleration. the car had no power and i had to pull over to the shoulder in heavy traffic. there was a wrench symbol lit up on the dash. i towed the car to a ford dealer in bettendorf iowa. they told me the problem was a bad throttle body and it would have to be replaced. there was a shortage of parts because there was 5 cars ahead of me waiting for the same parts. sounds like a common major problem. should be recalled for this problem. it could have created a dangerous situation. *jb
Driving up a hill and the car stalled. no power. was able to pull over, shut off engine and restart. car stalled two more times before i could get it home. once from a stop at an intersection light which resulted in a stall in the middle of a busy intersection almost causing a wreck. the second time as i slowed down to make a turn. took it immediately to a ford dealer. defective electronic throttle body which is on backorder. they have had my car a week now. may be another week before part comes in. this is a dangerous part breakdown and ford needs to fix it free. there needs to be a recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while traveling at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. the vehicle was shut down and restarted but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000. updated 9/4/13 *cn
Vehicle lost power while driving but engine was on. throttle body had to be replaced. *tr
Traveling on a highway, going 60 mph, my wrench light came on and the car went into "limp" mode. this happened two more times until i was able to get somewhere safe to call a tow truck. it turns out i have a bad throttle body which i have since learned is quite common in 2010 ford escapes. there needs to be a recall on this item. yes, the engine did what it was supposed to, but losing power at 60 mph during rush hour is quite dangerous. *tr
Just driving along one day and upon crossing an intersection of a busy street the call stalled. i pushed the gas pedal and couldnt accelerate. luckily i was able to pull of on a side street without holding up traffic. when i got to the side street i shut the car off and started it again and after taking awhile it finally started back up only to do the same thing a block later. the problem seemed to have gone away for a couple weeks but has came back recently and is ever more frequent. when it sets over night or for long periods of time it is driveable but after a few miles it starts to stall again. driving under 30 mph or accelerating super slow seems to help some times but not always. still probably not very safe to drive it like that especially pulling onto a busy street or out into a busy intersection. *tr
I was driving on the freeway at 65 in the slow lane when suddenly the vehicle seemed to loose power. the engine was still running but the accelerator would not work. no gas seemed to be going to the engine but it was still running. the good thing was i was in the slow lane otherwise i would have been in serious trouble. i shut the engine off and waited a few moments before restarting. it started up and i was able to drive home. researching the problem on the internet led me to this site but it would appear that this is a common problem which ford needs to take of before someone is killed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the engine stalled without warning while driving 60 mph. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic, who diagnosed the failure at the throttle body. the vehicle was repaired and the throttle body was replaced. in addition, the rear hatch door could only be opened electronically and not manually. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 43,000 and the approximate current mileage was 43,100...updated 09-18-13 *bf
At least 10 times over the last few weeks, my 2010 ford escape has lost power while driving. the rpm's drop and the engine does not respond when pushing the gas pedal. also the wrench light comes on. changing the transmission to neutral does not affect the stall. typically after turning off the engine and starting it again, the engine resets to normal. today, this happen on a crowded interstate surrounded by semi trucks at 65 mph. luckily, i was able to coast through lanes of traffic and get to the side of the road. this defect is considerably dangerous and needs attention as soon as possible from ford. *tr
I was pulling out into traffic and upon attempting to accelerate, vehicle lost power. wrench light came on and no matter how far down i pushed the gas pedal, i could not go over 5 mph. thankfully, i was able to pull over, turned off the ignition, restarted and vehicle drove fine for about 500ft and then it began doing the same thing. this continued my entire 5 mile trip home. this is very dangerous just to lose power while driving. mechanic indicates defective "throttle body." *tr
On july 20, 2013 going down the highway at 50mph vehicle suddenly jerks and slows down and the wrench (throttle control/power train) light comes on. while pressing gas pedal it would not accelerate it just continued to slow down. i coasted to side of the road and it starts jerking. i put car in park and turned it off. it took 2 tries to get it started, but once it started it ran like nothing was wrong. on july 26, 2013 same symptoms happened 4 times. same symptoms happened again on aug. 1, 2013 during rush hour traffic when i was sitting at a red light and when light turned green i gave it gas to go and it messed up in the middle of the intersection and i luckily made it to the side of the road! i turned it off and turned it back on (took 2 tries) and drove it home. next morning i had it towed to local ford dealership and they called me about 4 hrs later stating the throttle body needs to be replaced and it will cost just shy of $600! i was also told the part is on national back order and it may be a week before they get it. this issue happens randomly and there is no warning before it happens. this is dangerous! there needs to be a recall for this issue! *tr
Driving at 55 mph, car jerked and the gas pedal failed to respond. coasted over to the side of the road. turned vehicle off. restarted and started driving again with out problem. same thing happened again except with a large cement truck behind me. the ford died and there was no shoulder on the side of the road. the cement truck was able to go into the oncoming traffic lane to miss me. the escape did the same scenario twice on the way to the garage. ( with out the cement truck) the problem was diagnosed as the throttle body malfunction. *tr
I was driving at 60mph on the highway, the car suddenly lost power, i pulled over quickly and it was barely running, the engine was sputtering. i shut it off waited a few minutes and then started, it worked after. that problem then happened 3 more times in the next 20min. i immediately took it to a garage and the error code showed electronic throttle body. *tr
Vehicle was being driven down a county highway at 55 mph when it jerked forward and suddenly lost power. the vehicle coasted to almost a crawl before there was any sign of life to it. my wife called me and i asked her to pull over to a safe place. i told her to turn the vehicle off and then restart it. when she did this, she was able to drive the vehicle normally. the vehicle then jerked again and switched into the limp mode. at this point my wife pulled over and call a tow truck. the first mechanic i took it to said that i needed to take it to ford and that it was the throttle body. once i got it to ford, they looked at it and said that it was the throttle body and it needed to be replace. it's hard to believe that the part was on back order. there must be a demand for the part! i am thankful that my wife is fine, but i am concerned that the jerk that she felt could have led to an accident. i would hate to have this happen to any one else. *tr
I was driving to work and my car started to jerk. then my power train light came on and my car totally stopped on me in the middle of the road. i took it to the shop that day and the told me it was my throttle body. my warranty didn't cover it, so i had to pay over 300 dollars for a new part. *tr
The vehicle suddenly stopped running; initially heard a gentle thump followed by a decrease in rpm < 900 . depressing the accelerater had no affect. after coming to a complete stop i was able to restart the vehicle. i took the vehicle to a ford dealership the next day. they were unable to find anything wrong. the vehicle has repeated this same thing 3 times since the first occurence. i am scheduled to take the vehicle back to the dealership tomorrow 7-23-13. *tr
7/16/13, wife drove her car to work, dropped my son of at my mother's. got to the corner, tried to accelerate and it stalled, with no power, had to coast to the side of the road. 7/19/13, i was driving home, car stalled at the light, no accelerator power, wrench light came on. turned it off, re-started, ran fine for about 1/4 mile, then started shaking and no accelerator power. this continued every quarter mile for 4 miles. finally on the last shut down, check engine light came on, and engine started to shake with no response. pulled over, and then let it set for 5 mins, restarted and finally made it around the corner to my home.. next available appointment at ford dealer is 29 july... *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while traveling 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact stated performed a self check diagnostic but to no avail. the contact then took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and the current mileages were 38,000. *tr
While driving down the interstate, the car started to de-accelerate. the accelerator did not respond and i went into limp mode. car was towed to repair shop. it started right up and no problem was found - didn't register on the computer and wrench warning light went off. ten days later, the car did the same thing, this time in the city. different repair shop diagnosed the problem as the throttle body. ford dealers in the area told me there were 3700 of these parts on back order! gee, maybe there is a problem with massive numbers needing to be replaced! a recall needs to be initiated. my incident on the interstate almost resulted in an accident. *tr
Speed from 70 to zero. first time on freeway again it happen many times pull over shutoff eng. restart. call ford motor and dealer both say unless they could get the code from eng. not one thing could be done.it happen again my auto repair shop i walked over there they got the code and i took it to repair shop they put on new throttle body it now runs good but is this part going to happen again. *tr
On the 18th of july, 2013, while driving on a major interstate in my 2010 ford escape, my suv suddenly lost all throttle control and seemed to die. my wrench light came on and i was getting no response from the throttle and my engine was running roughly. i shut off the car and restarted it and tried to drive again. at 20 mph the throttle stopped working again. i was only a few hundred yards from a truck weight station and was able to crawl to the station at about 15 mph to troubleshoot the problem. i have a code reader in my vehicle and got p2111 and p2112 which is the throttle actuator control system - stuck open and stuck closed respectively. after letting the car sit for a while i was able to start it and the wrench light had gone out. i was able to go 60 mph for the rest of my 12 hour trip with no problems. today august 6, 2013 my car did the same thing. i was hoping it was a computer glitch and that i had gotten away one occurrence, but that was not the case. *tr
Vehicle suddenly lost power and wouldn't accelerate... engine eventually cut off. continued to be a problem in my attempt to get home. had it towed to the dealership the next day, where they discovered a problem with the throttle body. *tr
Vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly lost all power while driving on a major thoroughfare, almost resulting in a rear end collision. vehicle has now done that three times and is not being driven as it is unsafe to operate until repaired. ford states that it is a known issue with the throttle body but cannot obtain the replacement part for one to two months, rendering vehicle unusable and unsafe. *tr
The throttle body control device (part # ds7z-9e926-d) failed effectively disconnecting my accelerator pedal on the i-4 freeway. i was traveling at 60 mph i am lucky to be alive. the people at ford told me this is a very high failure part and they cannot keep them in stock. they indicated in confidence that "they were surprised customers are not being told of this defect". this problem probably killed someone somewhere and i truly believe this is a serious situation that will kill an innocent family soon. by the way they wanted $680.00 to fix their problem. *tr
The vehicle has been diagnosed with a throttle bar issue by a ford dealer. we have been waiting for 30+ days for a new throttle body part. from the time of the first incident in april, the vehicle has stopped running while driving and has been having electrical issues upon start up about a half dozen times including today. rather than enter a complaint for each incident because we can not recall the exact dates, we are submitting this complaint to cover all incidents. we have been told the part is back ordered and there is no estimated date of delivery. we have not experienced a surge in speed as of yet. is this vehicle safe for us to be driving? *tr
I was driving on the highway when my car seemed to stall out even though it is an automatic. i pulled over to the side of the road and turned the car off. i turned it on again and it seemed fine. i continued driving and it did the same thing. i took it to my mechanic and he told me that it was a faulty throttle body and needed to be replaced. *tr
My vehicle has been running great until the last week. three times in the span of an hour drive from one location to my house my vehicle has begun to shake and then quit running. two of the three times we were driving 65mph on a busy freeway and were unable to control the vehicle, having to allow the car to idle to a stop on the shoulder. thankfully we were able to do so safely. we drove the vehicle to our dealership for inspection today and the car shook, as if ready to shut down again, the entire trip. i received a call saying the electronic throttle body needs to be replaced. i have since seen several similar safety complaints regarding the same engine part and have requested the original part be returned to me. my vehicle is only three years old and in good condition, and it is entirely unsafe for a car to unexpectedly quit running, period. *tr
I was traveling approximately 35-40 mph when my car stalled, but not shutting off and the rpm fluttering between 1000-2000 rpm. my accelerator pedal would not allow me to press it to increase rpm or mph. next my check engine light came one and the wrench symbol as well. i call my local ford dealership/service and he explained it to be the accelerator throttle body and there is a national back order for this part. if this is the case there should be a national recall from the government or ford about this problem. *tr
Traveling 55mph on a main road in nc (rte 13). with no warning my engine loses all power. car is still on, but i cannot accelerate. i have to pull over on the side of the road. when i come to a stop the car is bucking. i have to turn the car off, wait a minute then start it again to "correct" the bucking. the engine light and a light in shape of a wrench come on simultaneously. i drive a little bit further and the same thing happens. i use the same procedure five more times to get it to the auto shop, where i'm told i need a new throttle body. mine is sticking open. 5,600 are on back order, so i have no idea how long it will take to get vehicle repaired. *tr
I was driving about 55 mph when the wrench dashboard indicator light comes on. at the same time my gas pedal ceases to work and car speed decreases. i have to coast onto the shoulder of the road. thankfully brakes work. car is still running. i turn car off and wait a minute. turn back on. it starts. light is gone and car feels shuddery but continues running. *tr
Driving with cruise control set at 60mph, cruise disengaged, stepped on gas no throttle response pulled over and shut vehicle down restarted and proceeded home. next day went to my escape started vehicle and service engine light came on and remained on throughout the day. called my ford dealer to set up appointment to bring in the car for inspection. was given a appointment in 3 days time (july 18,2013 @11:30am) was told by service advisor that it would be okay and safe to keep driving the car. following day went to a meeting with my car, service engine light did not come on. while driving home the vehicle lost power and once again no throttle. dealer service called and reported that the throttle assembly required replacement, asked if this was a known problem with the escape and was told that there have been issues with the throttle assembly but no recall to date was told to keep the paid bill once the work was completed in case of a recall and reimbursement. *tr
I was driving at 50mph and next thing i know is my whole car was shaking it was a 2010 ford escape and i checked the dash and the orange wrench light is on. i tried to step on the gas pedal so i can find a place to pull over but i don't have any power on my gas pedal it just wont accelerate. *tr
While driving approximately 70 mph on highway, veh lost power, no acceleration, wrench symbol and check engine light came on, had to coast off to the side of the highway. turned key off and let sit a couple minutes, restarted and was ok, but intermittently problem recurred until unable to drive more than a few miles between occurrences. diagnosis was a faulty throttle body. replaced throttle body and no problems since. *tr
On multiple occasions, our newly bought used vehicle (a 2010 ford escape with less than 60,000 miles,) had stalled on my party while driving. when the vehicle is in drive the car loses the ability to accelerate. some of the times all we had to do was restart the vehicle and it would get us back home. the occurrences of the problem happened more frequently when driving on a freeway or highway. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that wile driving 60 mph, the vehicle jerked and lost acceleration power without warning. the contact was able to move off the roadway however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic where diagnostic testing was performed, which located the failure at the throttle body. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 38,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and caused the vehicle to idle. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and took it to a local dealer for diagnostic testing. the dealer stated that the throttle body was defective and needed to be replaced. the throttle body was replaced. the failure mileage was 67,126.
About a month ago, while making a left hand turn, my car suddenly stopped accelerating. again, 2 weeks later while leaving work it stopped accelerating in traffic almost causing an accident (thankfully the person behind me slammed on their brakes). i pulled into a parking lot and it immediately did the same thing again. my car was towed to the dealership where they found that it was a throttle body issue. i already had an idea of this issue from my own research. apparently a lot of escape owners have had the same problem. this can cause a serious accident. the part is also on back order for 15 days which leaves me without a vehicle until it is fixed. i assume that since the throttle body is on back order that many people are having the same issue. there should be a recall on this part. *tr
I was driving down the highway at 70mph and my vehicle lurched, knocked, and then began to slow down no matter how much i pushed the gas pedal. i made it to the side of the road and once completely stopped, the vehicle vibrated until put in park. i turned my vehicle off and waited about 5 mins and then restarted it. everything appeared to be fine, so i began to drive down the highway again. within 2 miles, the same incident happened again. i made it to the closest auto zone and they diagnosed my vehicle with a trouble code p2111, throttle body stuck open. they sent me to a locally owned body shop, where they too, diagnosed my vehicle with the trouble code p2111. i managed to make it back home and take it to my ford shop, where they confirmed the trouble code of p2111, so they replaced my throttle body. unfortunately, my vehicle was no longer under warranty, so it came out of my pocket to replace the part. my ford had the nerve to mention this has been a recurring problem they are seeing, which is why they already had a throttle body in stock. this should be sent to recall; it is dangerous, and has affected many people from what i've read. *tr
