We have classified the 481 complaints from 2010 Ford Escape about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Had been driving vehicle on busy city street for approximately 3 miles through traffic lights. stopped at red light to enter freeway with several other vehicles on two lane freeway onramp. light turned green, i attempted to accelerate to freeway speed, vehicle only obtained about 2mph, vehicle was running but had no response to gas pedal ( rpm's didn't increase), two red warning lights appeared on dash. i managed to coast onto the mini shoulder of the onramp, sticking halfway into traffic, due to the small size of the shoulder. i shifted through park, neutral, drive, no response, turned vehicle off, then restated and vehicle operated normally, warning lights out. very, very dangerous situation and car only has 40,000 miles. in researching this online, there are thousands of similar experiences with all mileages, forums are saying the dealer is replacing defective throttle body assemblies. this is a major safety problem. *tr
I have two ford escapes and both have the same issue, the power train light comes on. there was a recall for same model but when i called ford they said it was not made in location where the recall happened. i have taken it to a few auto repairs show and they have told me that this a problem they see a lot. i have called the dealership and they say they can not do anything. i am furious that know i have to pay 6000 to replace the transmission for both my vehicles! *tr
Defective throttle body the 2010 ford escape not once but multiple times would go to idle and run rough while traveling on different roads at different speeds. the gas pedal would do nothing to make the car go but it was idling rough and coasting causing us to stop on the side of very dangerous roads. we would turn it off and let it sit for a few minutes and then it would start normal. the gas pedal would work again but repeat the same problem 5 to 10 minutes later. we were certainly glad this did not happen on the interstate in front of an 18 wheeler or we would be dead. the dealership said the throttle body is bad. the car is only 2,000 miles out of warranty from the standard bumper to bumper warranty, the extended powertrain warranty does not cover the part. so we are out almost $400 for a part that should never fail to begin with. *tr
With no warning, i was unable to accelerate. car went into limp mode. i was able to pull over safely. i am thankful i wasn't traveling at a higher rate of speed or traveling on the freeway; this would have been incredibly dangerous. diagnostic lights on dash indicated something with throttle. was able to get car home - very difficult. had to have it towed. very expensive car repair, 208.00 part (throttle body) and 190.00 labor. *tr
At freeway speed the car lost power. we were able to pull to the shoulder of the highway. a small wrench warning light appeared on the dashboard. we checked the owner's manual, and it referred to a "throttle/power train" issue and told us to seek dealer attention as soon as possible. the engine restarted, so we continued our trip. we stopped in sulfur springs, tx, at the ford dealership. that morning the vehicle battery was dead (which was the first problem we have ever had with the vehicle), and we began our trip after jump-starting the car. i thought the stalling was related to the battery problem. the events were explained to the tech, we replaced the battery which we felt would also solve the stalling problem. the stall occurred the next day, and again on our return trip. i took the vehicle to our local ford dealer where the throttle body assembly was replaced. we have not, as of now, tested the repair at freeway speed, but were assured by the dealer that the problem was solved. *tr
My car has been having a power train issue past couple of weeks. a wrench light comes on, then my car slowly powers off. it doesn't matter where i am or how fast or slow i'm going. the scariest incident was when i was on the highway going 65 mph. again, the wrench light came on the car slowly powered off. luckily it was late and there was little traffic on the highway. i was able to slowly pull over and restart the car, which started up fine. the car has now done this 4-5 times. again, the scariest incident was on the freeway. i took my car to the dealer and they informed me that the issue is a stuck throttle. after doing some research, i've found that there have been many complaints of the same origin of the ford escapes dating back to year model 2004- with one fatality and multiple accidents. something must be done, i.e. recall issued. *tr
Serious and life-threatening malfunction impeded my ability to control my 2010 escape occurred while driving 50mph on a very busy highway. my escape stalled suddenly without any warning what so ever in the middle of the lane while driving on the busy highway. as i tried to continue driving, pushing the throttle pedal, the escape would not go,it slowed down suddenly on it's own. i was able to ease off the payment to the side of the lane; however, i was almost hit in the rear by a auto behind me before i could get off the payment. i was fortunate to have been at a place where i could ease off the payment. the highway is curvy and hilly. this scared me to death. a wrench light came on indicating a malfunction of the throttle/powertrain. the engine was running fine. i turned off the engine and waited a few minutes, then i cranked it and it cranked fine. the wrench light went off. i tried driving it again, and once i pulled back into the highway, giving it gas, it would barely go, so i eased back again. i called roadside assistance and had it towed to the dealership. after it was inspected i was told the electric throttle body had malfunctioned and needed replacing. it was the caused of the sudden stalling while i was driving. my life as well as others were put in a dangerous situation because of this malfunction. i understand that there has been a lot of complaints like mine already filed here. ford should issue a recall immediately before any deaths occur. i had to pay $470 to get this taken care since my warranty was out 3/36,000. i was told that this was not covered by the powertrain 5/60,000. *tr
I had just left my house in my 2010 ford escape on december 7th when suddenly the engine bogged down completely and was no longer responsive to the movement of the accelerator pedal even though the engine was still running. the "wrench" warning light came on and the car slowed to a crawl. i pulled over and was able to turn the car around and return home (1/4 mile) with the vehicle moving approximately 2-3 mph. after i returned home, i restarted the vehicle and the "wrench" light extinguished and the car seemed okay. i drove a different vehicle to work that day and when i returned home, i put my obdii scanner on the vehicle and retrieved a "p2111" pending malfunction code. i cleared the code, started the vehicle and drove it without incident until december 18th when i had the same problem again while driving in moderate traffic. i was approximately 25 miles away from my house when the engine, once again, was no longer responsive to the movement of the accelerator pedal. i was able to get the car out of traffic by pulling into a left turn lane. the "wrench" light was again on. i turned the engine off and restarted it. the "wrench" light went out and the car, once again seemed to run okay. i cautiously made the 25 mile trip home with the vehicle. i put the scanner on the car again, and no malfunction code was present. i had been fortunate this time as i was in moderate traffic moving at about 45 mph when the incident occurred. i believe this is a serious safety issue and i could only imagine what could happen if this problem occurred while in traffic on the highway. *tr
The car lost engine power unexpectedly while under way. pressing the gas pedal made no difference, and the car would not coast - it lost speed rapidly. upon turning the car off and waiting a few minutes, the car would restart and operate normally. sometimes it would operate for normally for the entirety of the trip, other times the car would exhibit the problem again. *tr
For several months, my 2010 ford escape would stall while driving down the road. there were times that i was going 45-55mph and my vehicle would stall. i lost power steering as vehicle shut off. i had to slow down and pull off the road and re-start the vehicle. this was very dangerous and scary. this happened probably 10-15 times until i could no longer get the vehicle started. i had it towed into a ford dealership and had their service department analyze the problem. i first took it by an advance auto to check the service engine light. the code that came up i believe was 9000. it had something to do with emission, fuel system concerns. the service department put a throttle body and motor assembly part on it. i haven't had any problems since. they also did an eec test p2111 and found etb to be at fault and replaced. i had to pay $356.52 including labor for this. i feel from reading other information on 2010 ford escapes that there has been a lot of issues with stalling. i feel i should be reimbursed for my expenses. *tr
Engine stalls , loss of power, random stop - obd code p2111 throttle body. *tr
While traveling at hwy speed accelerated to pass slow vehicle, vehicle was delayed going into passing gear and clunked into passing gear. had to let off accelerator to upshift into 6th gear. we would like to know if there has been an opened campaign for this issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving various speeds, the transmission hesitated while shifting. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the transmission had a leak and the cb joint and bushings both needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
Engine loses power (does not stall out) stays running but unable to accelerate. wrench light comes on. if shut off and restarted it will go again. occured 3 times in one day. occurs at any level of speed, was going 30 mph once, and on highway the other 2 times, once excelerating on highway to merge, and the last time driving normally. throttle body and motor were replaced. *tr
Right after the warranty went out the vehicle starting slamming from 1st into 2nd upon acceleration. the idle is very rough and quite loud, the engine makes a funny noise and i take extremely good care of my vehicle, getting all of the scheduled oil changes on time, replacing the air filter, etc. i also explained to them that the vehicle wasn't idling properly and that the engine used to be quiet. the windshield is extremely thin as well, a small pebble hit my windshield causing a 8 inch crack in a matter of minutes to where it was beyond getting it fixed. then liftgate started giving me problems. when you press the button, it would make the sound, but sometimes open, then on may 17, 2013 it just quit working all together. on may 18, 2013, i took it to reynolds ford for a scheduled oil change right before a trip to mexico and upon telling them about it, they wanted $250 just to look at it before parts and labor. now, the rear blinker doesn't work and you can't replace it due to the fact that you can't get the liftgate to open in order to remove the rear taillight assembly. so, when you are trying to make a left turn, vehicles behind you don't know you are turning and almost hit you (safety hazard). you also can't change a flat tire since you can get to the jack, which is in the rear compartment accessed through the liftgate. this is a serious problem as there is no manual release for the hatch to get it open period, once the latch doesn't work, it just doesn't work. *tr
While driving wrench light and engine light illuminated with sudden loss of power very dangerous. if it would have happened .5 miles later merging onto highway during rush hour could have been fatal. *tr
I have a 2010 ford escape that surges forward when i come to a stop. the rpm rises and i have to stand on the brake to keep it going forward. no fault lights come on. i have had it checked a week a go, they could not find any problem. no codes or anything. please help me with this matter.i,m afraid to have my wife drive this car. I am a homehealth nurse, i work in a very mountainous, rural area where i do not even have cellphone service. i was on a very narrow, curvy road, when the car just quit accelerating, the small wrench appeared on the dash, i was able to coast far enough to get to a wide spot where i could get the vehicle safely out of the road, barely missing an 18 wheel coal truck from hitting me. there was no warning, the vehicle drove fine all day and then it just quit. i was able to turn the car off and restart and attempted to drive it and again this happened 3 times before the check engine light finally came on. the nicest person in the world help me and he was able to detect the problem with his computer and he was able to adjust the throttle into the closed position and then i was able to get the vehicle home without anymore problems. i then took it to a ford dealership and had the throttle body replaced before i did get killed if this was to happen again. i do wish ford would just get this part recalled before someone does get killed. *tr
After driving the vehicle for a couple of hours on saturday morning on the interstate i was driving in city traffic. i made a right turn from a stopped position. as i accelerated the engine began to sputter and acted like it was not in gear. the dashboard wrench light came on and i had no response from the gas peddle and the idle was extremely rough. i coasted to a stop and turned off the vehicle. after reading in the manual about the light (power train issue) i called and had the vehicle towed to my dealer for service. as it was saturday i had to wait for service until monday. monday morning i rented a vehicle from the dealer. on thursday, 10/25/12, my vehicle was ready for pickup. when i spoke to the service adviser i was told it was the throttle body was sticking for an unknown reason and they replaced it. i was informed that this was not a power train issue, but it was an emissions issue. they also said it was not covered under the power train warranty. according to my service ticket they also charged me an additional $170 on a miscellaneous item. on 11/12/12 the wrench light came on again when i started the vehicle in the morning. i drove it to my dealer and was told it was the canister purge valve that had a leak. this was also not covered under warranty. *tr
While traveling about 20 mph down the street, the vehicle completely lost responsiveness to pressure on the gas pedal. the wrench light came on indicated a power train malfunction. i drifted off to the side of the road and turned the car off. i then waited about a minute and turned the car back on again. everything was fine and the wrench light went away. the car drove fine for another 50 miles or so. then it happened again. there is no warning and when it happens nothing you do can make the car respond. turning the car off then on again solved this problem. through searching through this database, it is apparent this a common problem with ford escape throttle bodies. most likely a defect in the part. *tr
Vehicle began throttling while driving on the freeway. engine light came on. as i pulled over, vehicle slowed down jumping forward. applied brakes and still kept jumping forward. switched gear to park and car stalled. turned on after a few tries. continues to jump forward and shake. after a few minutes problem went away and vehicle drove normal. three weeks later same occurrence. this week another occurrence of the problem. contacted sunrise ford dealer in north hollywood ,ca and was told i need to pay $150.00 diagnostic fee. *tr
While driving at highway speeds the engine revs up and losses power to the transmission as if it was out of gear. it also has happened and standing, i need to shut off the motor and reset it as to speak. the ford dealer has said that it is a throttle body issue, but i am scared to drive it down the highway for fear that i may be rear ended. i have found that there is a current investigation under way for throttle body failures and there is a current national back order on them. *tr
While driving on a normal road, the vehicle's wrench light (on the dash) illuminated and the vehicle became unresponsive. that is, pressing the accelerator yielded no results. this was followed by a shuddering stall-out (engine shut down) when the brakes were applied. the first attempt to restart the engine resulted in a clicking noise. the engine started without fault on the second attempt. the vehicle was driven without incident for the remainder of the day and the following two days. on the 4th day, the incident repeated. normal vehicle operational conditions are short (10 to 15 minutes) one-way trips. ford technicians found the throttle body was sticking in closed position. a new throttle body was installed. *tr
While pulling off from a stop sign under moderate acceleration the transmission "flared" dropping out of gear causing the vehicle to stop accelerating, and the engine to rev. after letting off the accelerator the vehicle regained power. this happened numerous times over the day. finally took it to a dealer for inspection. *tr
My wife and i each drive a ford escape, one a 2010 and the other a 2009. in the last month we have each experienced a sudden and unexpected complete loss of power. in her case, she was driving on an interstate at highway speeds in moderate traffic. i was driving in suburban traffic at 40 mph. in each case, the engine suddenly stopped, no power, and the warning lights came on. after about five minutes, you were able to re-start, but the problem persists, so it is not safe to drive the car. the repair costs about $550 for each one, the dealer indicated it was a throttle body and motor assembly.. *tr
2 different times while driving on the highway with speed limit of 65 on one highway and 70 on another highway car stalled, power steering was out and gas didn't work, both times i was in the middle lane and it was difficult to get car to side of road with oncoming traffic. it happened a few more times when not on the highway, i took it to the dealership and they wanted to charge me 180$ just to find out what was wrong and because it was beyond the 36000 mile warranty they said nothing would be covered, so i took it to our mechanic and it was discovered that is was the throttle body, he replaced it for 500$, it hasn't had the problems since the throttle body was replaced. *tr
While driving wrench light came on & with a sudden jerk ford escape's gas pedal stopped acceleration. i pulled car on the side. engine was still running but gas pedal was not responsive. we were waiting for police & tow truck with the hazards light on & someone hit the car from behind & broke suspension etc. i went to ford dealership & they were not at all concerned. then i went to another dealership & they said there computer found throttle problem & they changed it. very dangerous car stops on a highway. i read multiple complaints regarding this matter. please look in to the matter to save lives. it could be a tractor trailer coming at fast speed. thank god we are saved. *tr
Driving vehicle on busy highway with cruise control at 60 mph. the dash wrench light came on and the engine idled down, back-fired and would not acclerate. we had to maneuver off the road and stop the engine for a few minutes then restart. it then ran like it should. ironically, we were headed to the local ford dealership to have this checked as this failure had happened three (3) times prior. yesterday, the service tech diagnosed the problem as a defective throttle body and was replaced with a new one. we were not given warranty coverage because the mileage was 36,4xx when it arrved at the service department. an accident waiting to happen for someone else. *tr
The incident first happened on sep. 2 2013, when i was accelerating on highway ramp. the car suddenly lost pushing power and the wrench light was on while engine was still running. i pulled over and turned off the engine then restarted it and everything back to normal. the same issue happened again when i was on my way to work on sep 6, while i was on the left lane of highway 401 and accelerating to about 60 miles. i called the dealership and booked appointment. today (sep 9) it was almost accident on my way to the dealership. i was making a left turn in an local intersection, the vehicle lost the power during accelerating. thank god i i was able to finish the left turn with inertia. after investigation the dealer told me i have to pay from my pocket to replace the throttle body. i also compliant to ford canada. i think ford should recall this issue for safety reason. *tr
The ford escape would refuse to accelerate. this happened multiple times. the wrench warning light would come on. it was dangerous when this would happen entering freeways. the throttle body was replaced by the ford dealer. the dealer seemed to know exactly what was wrong. *tr
Driving car on highway on daily commute in 5:00 pm traffic. merging into traffic, gave it gas and car slowed to nothing, would not increase in speed, rpms very high , wrench light came on had to turn car off and back on to get it home. took to ford dealership and they stated it was a bad throttle body, not covered by warranty. *tr
Less than two weeks after purchasing the ford escape, i was headed east from south kingstown, ri to ma on rt 79/24 at 6:30 a.m. driving at approximately 60 miles an hour, without any warning, the car came to a complete stop and the wrench light appeared on the control panel. i was without a cell phone. in the distance i could see an off ramp and was about to walk. i successfully restarted the car, exited the highway, to return to ri. after driving approximately 25 miles, the car again, without any warning, came to a complete stop in seekonk and the wrench light again came on the control panel. again, i restarted the car and proceeded cautiously to south kingstown, when the car again stopped in wakefield, and the wrench light indicating a power train failure appeared on the control panel. i immediately contacted the dealer where the car was purchased. it still had a month left on the original warranty. upon inspection the service department indicated that they could not find anything wrong. they told me that unless the problem could be recreated, they would not replace any parts. because it was labor day weekend, i had to wait until tuesday and took the car to a ford dealer in narragansett ri, where they kept the car for three days. they couldn't replicate the incident and said that unless they could simulate it, ford would not pay to replace any parts. *tr the consumer stated the vehicle has been to the dealer four times, to try and rectify the stalling issue, but to no avail. updated ivoq 10/22/12
While driving 65 mph on a very busy freeway and without any warning the vehicle jerked and immediately lost power. the engine did not shut off but there was no response from the accelerator. fortunately we were able to coast to the shoulder where the vehicle would not go more than 5 mph. the wrench warning light (for power train issues) came on. we turned off the car and waited 10 minute and restarted the car. the wrench light did not come on and we were able to drive if off the highway to the dealer. the dealer advised the throttle body had failed and since the car was 4,500 over the 36,000 mile warranty limit it was not covered. the dealer replaced the throttle body. if the driver were less experienced and had a failure on a busy freeway at night there could have been a terrible accident. this is a serious safety defect that should be recalled. ford has issued a technical service bulletin on the problem. *tr
As i was driving, the engine just stopped, i tried to give it gas, but it wouldn't go. the vehicle slowed down and i had to pull over. the wrench indicator light was on. i turned the vehicle off, then on again, and the wrench light was off, and the vehicle was fine. this has happened about a dozen times since the initial incident. *tr
Multiple noises started to occur. the first was a cracking noise when accelerating, second came a clicking noise while braking and then a howling sound. the crackling noise has yet to be discovered, the clicking was the drive shaft and rotors. the howling noise is supposedly the transfer case. additionally, the gears do not seem to catch between 50-65mph. *tr
On 8/11/12 was traveling on interstate highway at 65 mph when i noticed i was losing acceleration despite constant pressure on the gas pedal. the vehicle was unresponsive to the gas pedal. steering and brakes were responsive for about 30 seconds. after that 30 seconds the steering and brakes also became unresponsive. the engine continued to run. i coasted to a stop, put the vehicle in park, and turned the car off. after a minute or two i attempted to restart the vehicle. the vehicle restarted and ran normally. on 8/12/12 i was on the highway when the problem recurred in the same order and timing. then on 8/30/12 i was again on the highway when the problem recurred, again around 65 mph. i restarted the vehicle, progressed around a mile further, and the problem occurred again. restarted, and the problem occurred again, around 65 mph, about 30 miles later. at this time i noticed the "wrench" light was on as i coasted to a stop. i restarted, turned around toward home, and the problem recurred again. at this time i saw the "wrench" light and the powertrain warning light were both on. i turned the vehicle off, restarted, and was able to drive 70 miles home without any additional occurrences. as of today the problem has occurred six times. i made an appointment with my local dealership this morning for 8/14/12. *tr
The car would jerk when you drove it. it was a hard jerk sometimes and hardly noticeable at times. i never owned an suv so i thought maybe it was normal. asked dealer they drove and stated it was ok. kept jerking at times when you were driving. especially when slowing down in vehicle, would jerk when shifting from gear to gear (automatic transmission). asked white ford service again about hard shifting. in october at 56,000 miles on vehicle they stated that they could reprogram computer and set it. it cost me $105 for them to do that. did not notice much difference, maybe a little better. in december my son took vehicle to white ford because i did not feel like they were listening to me, they told him no transmission technician. take to different ford dealer. took to nick nicholas ford in crystal river, fl and they stated trans fluid burnt. $5,000 to fix. i took vehicle to tri-county transmission in chiefland, fl. mgr. worked for ford service 27 years. they stated trans fluid burnt, black and fine metal and fiction mat, and had trans torn up due to defective part. solenoid bore worn caused clutches to slip metal all thru trans and converter. this is a problem that should be a recall. what if transmission had failed me??? *tr
While driving at approx 45mph, my 2010 ford escape suddenly stopped accelerating and the car slowed to a crawl in the middle of traffic. the wrench light on the dashboard came on. i was able to make it through the intersection and get the car into a parking lot. i had the car towed to the dealership who told me my throttle had to be replaced. the car gave no indication of a problem prior to this. *tr
I was driving on the highway when suddenly i lost all acceleration and had to coast off the road. a wrench was lit up on my dashboard and although i had no acceleration, my engine was still sputtering/running. after turning the car off for a few minutes and restarting it, it ran fan and the wrench light was off. it ran fine for the next week until it happen again. i was pullin onto the access road to the highway and the car again lost all acceleration, but continued to run. this continued all the way home, which i arrived safely, luckily. i called a ford dealership and they were unable to get a service manager on the phone. they were supposed to call me back, which they never did. i ended up taking my car to another shop near my home and they told me that my electronic throttle body had gone out. they had recently made this fix to two other ford escapes, which concerned me. they also had to get the replacement piece directly from ford, which also concerns me because i am now convinced it is a faulty piece altogether. i still feel at risk as they have only replaced the piece which i feel may still by faulty. i am disappointed that ford was put so many people at risk and my hope is that this is researched and is recalled for peoples safety. i feel so blessed that my child was not in the car with me during these incidents although i was extremely scared for my own well being. i would like ford to be held responsible for this. *tr
Twice, vehicle went into "limp mode" and failed to accelerate, once while stopped at a traffic signal, and a second time when turning onto another roadway. the engine would only idle and we had to pull out of moving traffic and shut down the engine for a minute and then restart. it would then run fine. guessing the throttle computer had to reboot to function again. *tr
I have taken this 2010 ford escape to gene messer ford to have it checked and they say they cannot find anything wrong. i am again taking it friday may 3, 2013 for it to be checked again. i will be driving at 60mph and it jerks then the rpm will dropped and then the car will die leaving me stalled in traffic. it will try to start but takes a bit and about a minute it will start up and continue on. it has happened twice this week. the only light that comes on is the wrench. gene messer says they cannot do anything without a code. *tr
Driving on freeway at 70 mph. lost drive power as if transmission had disconnected (even though transmission shifter was in drive mode) and "wrench" light came on. tachometer showed about 1100 rpm. pushing the accelerator pedal down did not increase engine rpm. coasted to shoulder. turned off ignition and restarted the vehicle, immediately. vehicle started up and drove normally. *tr
I was driving and the car just lost power. i had just exited the hwy. i pulled over to the side of the road put the car in park and turned the key back off and the car restarted. then this happened again about 5 minutes later. then two weeks later is happened again same situation. it happened about 3- 4 times. we thought maybe it was bad gas -- so we refilled with premium gas....two weeks later it happened again 3 times in a row. on a major highway -- it was very scary..i took it to the dealer they found nothing - did not charge me and there was no report that i even took the car in to them .3 weeks after that ..it happened constantly but i was on a trip away from home -- it started back up every time ..i it happened 9 time in one day. 3 times on the interstate going about 60 mph -- it was very upsetting..when i got home i took it to the dealer and they said it was the abs and it would cost 800$+ -- i told them to keep the car and drive it until the issue i had happened to them -- they had it 2- 3 days and it finally happened to them when they had the diagnostics on the car...it was the throttle sensor ...they charged me $400+ and it is now fixed--my sister had an escape an did have the same issue -- my 83 year old mother has the same car and i would not want this to happen to her! thanks *tr
A light in the shape of a wrench suddenly appears on the dashboard of the car. the car goes immediately into neutral but engine keeps running. managed to get to shoulder and turned off car. waited and restarted. this was the third time it happened, but the first time it happened on a highway, creating a potentially dangerous situation. each time, the local ford dealer was unable to diagnose the problem and kept the car for several weeks. they've never been able to find out what is causing this. *tr
While driving at 35mph in the city, the car lost all power, while it was able to steer and brake, the gas pedal did not work, rpm slowed to 500 and the car coasted to a stop. the wrench warning light turned on. i turned off the ignition and when i restarted the car, it ran well. the same situation and sequence occurred 24 hours later. i took the care to a local ford dealer who said that the computer revealed no issues. they kept the car and were able to experience the loss of power on a test drive. according to the mechanic, the computer showed no error code but their readings revealed erratic readings with the mass air sensor. they replaced it but told me that the sensor itself did not seem ot be malfunctioning. the defect caused a potential dangerous situation. without power, there would be no way to get out of the way of traffic. i was fortunate that the road was quiet and i could coast from the inside lane to the side of the road without being hit by another vehicle. *tr
Driver was accelerating at 35 mph and 2010 ford escape engine became non-responsive. attempts to press the accelerator were unproductive. powertrain light came on. vehicle coasted to shoulder of road and was turned off and restarted. powertrain light went out upon restarting. vehicle inspection at ford dealer revealed no problems. three days alter, same incident happened with a different driver. the experience was described as the gas pedal being disengaged from the engine. *tr
Driving on freeway, between 4pm and 5pm, 40mph. wrench light came on and pressing gas pedal resulted in no forward momentum or response from the rpm gauge. pulled over coasting, no further response from the gas pedal in park or neutral. restarted car, proceeded normally. happened again a month later, same speed, same time of day. took car to the dealer. they were able to identify the issue (throttle body) right away from my description. the throttle body was replaced, no further issues. i have seen several complaints via the internet regarding the same issue. issue was replicated in a non-related video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hkmos9pohu. *tr
Without warning, vehicle lost engine power and entered "limp mode" while driving down the interstate at between 65-70 mph. the power train warning lamp illuminated (wrench indicator light) as i pulled over to the side of the interstate. in this "limp mode" the engine continued to idle, but there was insufficient power to propel the vehicle. i switched the vehicle off and then on again with apparently normal operation after the restart. the problem occurred a second time within 500 miles of the first occurrence. i spoke with someone at a ford dealership and they mentioned the throttle body as the likely source. i had them replace the throttle body and i've not had this problem since. i've driven over 10k miles with the replacement throttle body without this issue occurring again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact was driving approximately 40-50 mph when the vehicle lost acceleration. the vehicle then idled and would not accelerate over 15 mph. the failure was experienced several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure was approximately 2,800 updated 7/9/12 *cn the dealer determined the problem was a faulty electronic throttle body. updated 07/10/12
Engine & powertrain bad hesitation at low speed all the time. seems like electronic throttle body malfunction that generates engine & powertrain to surge and seems like engine will stall. this also creates hard impact in transmission & driveline system as all of the sudden acceleration happens and sudden torque in transmission & drive line generates high stress (impact) on these systems that affects & degrades durability & reliability of vehicle. bad engine & powertrain hesitation is a safety concern due to degraded engine performance at intersections where engine power is required to take off from 0mph to 45mph and poor acceleration & hesitation is present. *tr
