The abs braking system on the ford escape hybrid failed unexpectedly and without warning at only 60k miles. the vehicle was in motion, and all the lights came on at once and the system read "check brakes." the brakes felt loose, and i took it a mechanic the next day. they thought that pressure was getting sent unevenly to both sides of the vehicle, so they flushed the brakes. however, they discovered total abs failure, and a $3000 fix associated with it. this is a known issue all over the internet. there are facebook groups advocating for a recall of this vehicle. we were lucky that we didn't crash into someone. the brakes only work if you apply extreme force to them, and even then they get loose and the car starts to roll away. these issues are becoming extremely prevalent now in 2020 that the 2008-2011 era of this hybrid is getting a bit older. that being said, this model only has 60k miles on it and should not have had brake failure. http://www.carproblemzoo.com/ford/escapehybrid/brake-abs-warning-light-problems.php https://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/5850/ford/escape-hybrid/ford-escape-hybrid-brake-problems/p4
We were driving on a 3 lane highway at night, stopped at a red light. suddenly, the car went completely dead - no lights or power. cars driving at between 40-50 mph were coming up behind us, but could not see us because we could not even get hazard lights on. we were locked in - the doors would not open!! after several near misses, we were lucky enough to have a stranger stop and he was able to alert oncoming cars so we would not get hit. ends up that the negative terminal of the battery was very loose as well as the surrounding fasteners of the battery. we purchased the car 5 weeks earlier, brand new with 11 miles on it. after getting towed to the dealership, it was an easy fix, but my safety concern was the fact that the doors would not open!!! if there was a fire, we would have been trapped, and we could not get out in case we were hit by the vehicles coming up behind us, which came close a few times!
Most states require trailers of 3,000lb gvwr, and some states only 1,500lb, to have an independent braking system on at least one axle of the trailer. ford sells vehicles with factory tow packages rated at 3,500lb, but does not supply even an optional electric brake controller. further, they don't supply a "plug 'n' play" harness for an aftermarket controller as do many manufacturers. this situation has prevailed from at least 2013 onward. when we purchased our 2020 escape sel with factory towing, we fully expected that this shortcoming would have been resolved. it has not. and that it has existed for two generations of the escape spanning eight model years leads me to conclude ford is willfully ignoring the laws of many states, and potentially endangering the drivers of these cars and other drivers sharing the roadways.
Power steering assist warning came on and lost steering. it happens when driving.
I have only owned my pre-owned vehicle for 3 years and have had to replace driver side front bearing 2x's, rear wiper motor twice and now vehicle will stall while in motion and at stops for traffic lights. i have always driven fords and feel that this is something with the assembly line because i learned of another from the same assembly line that had the same problems.
This is the tenth time that the coolant system lights come on and the the car stalls out and will only go approximately 5 miles per hour. this happened this time with a car behind me that almost crashed into me he had ti hit his breaks and go across a double line into oncoming traffic lanes to keep from hitting me, blessedly there was no oncoming traffic. i was driving the vehicle. now it won"t stay charged even with a new battery. as soon as i turn the motor off the car is dead until i charge it again. it runs from point a to b but if you turn it off it is completely dead and the key wont work or anything
Power steering was lost while driving. power steering is now in manual mode. power assisted steering has failed. dealer says that this vehicle is not part of the recall that has affected several others. same components as other recalled escapes. as ford dealer charged $150 to diagnose the issue.
When started, vehicle displays 'power steering assist failure-requires service' warning and power steering is lost. this has happened three times over the course of two days. it does not happen every time the car is started, it just randomly happens. i drove home last night from work with no power steering, and along with this issue my usb ports would not charge my phone. my phone recognized that it was plugged in, but not enough power was being supplied to actually charge it. i'm nit sure if that is linked with the power steering module, but i've never had that issue before all of this mess.
My car has the same problem as the recall 14s17-s1 except my engine is the 1.6l and they won't fix it. i started my car after work and the engine fault service engine soon light came on. i tried to drive it but there was no power and was wanting to die so i parked it and called a tow truck. it is the map harness wiring.
Within a month of purchasing vehicle, mileage 67,000, complete brake system failure. could have been fatal and will be if not corrected. many exact complaints found online. vehicle failed to stop coming to light. had to pull off the side of the road into a wooded area for the vehicle to stop. felt like vehicle was sliding on road. later realized it was a abs system failure not sliding. abs light is on. brake system needs service light on. emergency brake light stays on. approximately 75% of the time, when first driving vehicle, only the service brake display is on. the vehicle will begin to buck/stutter, steering wheel shakes, and traction control warning light illuminates. after accelerating, that stops and returns to what i described.above. i read since there were no fatalities reported ford will not recall. i am certain there have been fatalities due to this problem, just not identified.
