Problems with 2013 Ford Edge POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2013 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 58 267 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2013 Ford Edge

While driving, there is a sudden loss of engine power, the engine light and wrench light indicator come on and the car slows down to a crawl with limited acceleration, more like idle speed. the situation happens 1x-2x per week. after turning the car off and then restarting the car will run normall. this has happens at random times with no other influences like weather. it is extremely unsafe to be in the car when this situation occurs. you are immediately put into unsafe driving conditions with the potential to cause traffic issues. even more freightenin is you become a target to be in an acccident if others are not paying attention to you sudden loss of speed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving various speeds, the vehicle decelerated independently and the rpms decreased. the contact mentioned that the vehicle needed to be restarted every time for the vehicle to function correctly. the failure recurred multiple times. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 109,000.

9/1/17, i was driving home on the freeway. the car lost power but i was able to limp out of traffic. here is the unsafe thing'.. while coming to a stop the accelerator surged two or three times forcing me to depress the brake to keep it from accelerating further. the engine rpms went from idle (approx. 600rpm) to 3000rpm while my foot was pressing only on the brake and the wrench symbol displayed alongside the speedo. 15 minutes later, it happed again. i lost all ability to accelerate, the wrench displayed, and the check engine light came on. while stopping, the car surged forward and forced me to shift into neutral to control it while pressing the brake. if there was anyone infront of me, i would have surged and rear-ended them causing damage or injury. there is a lot of history on the electronic throttle bodies and their electrical connection problems in the edge, escape, explorer, and mustangs. please get this make model included in a recall.

Transmission is slipping and jerking. engines revs high when trying to shift. i was driving on a city street when this problem started. i barely made it thru several intersections to a safe location. the car is undrivable and towed to dealer on 8/14/2017. ford case number 19010926. csm judy rizzo. no one from ford will talk to me or return my phone calls.

Ptu leaking and going out. when you drive you get a smell like propane. inside the car. make a grinding noise after you stop and then start moving again. this will shut down the vehicle and stop it instantly. very dangerous. there is a class action law suit on this. please help many people so we can get thi safety problem fixed so it does hurt more people.

Noise started come from my driver side tire. started to jeft while moving from idle. took it to the mechanic and he said it was the power transfer unit. car only has 81,500 miles on it. looked around and it seems this is a very common complaint with this model car. as found here http://gotaclassaction.com/15796-2/

Vehicle was bought new and now has 60000 miles. we have had no problems before 06/14/17. driving to work, there was a sudden loss of power, accelerator would not function and speedometer quit registering. the yellow wrench came on indicating there was some type of powertrain failure. vehicle was on a two-lane bridge and had to limp to the other side to safely pull over. was not able to travel more than 1-2 miles per hour. pulled to the side of the road, put the car in park and turned off the engine. waited a few minutes and decided to restart the car. vehicle worked normally and was able to continue into work. contacted ford service and make appointment to bring it in the next morning for diagnosis. technician verified concern, tried to pull a code, was not able to get one, but determined the problem was with the throttle body internal failure and replaced and reprogrammed pcm. a simple google search revealed a recall for this same problem and part by ford but not for the edge. however, it appears that there are many edge owners who have had this same issue. this needs to be addressed and corrected before someone dies or is seriously injured.

Engine suddenly stalls while driving. yellow wrench light comes on and there is no power when applying accelerator. has happened while on highway (approx 70 mph) and surface streets (approx 30 mph). pull over to the side of the road and turn off the engine. the restart was sputtery but came on and no more wrench light, the vehicle ran as if nothing happened. after taking it to a dealership was told problem could not be duplicated and no fix could be made.

Door latch system malfunction. this triggers a door adjar signal in the vehicle. this ultimately keeps the interior lights on and prohibits you from locking the doors of the vehicle

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the gears failed to properly shift and there was a reduction of speed. the contact had to maneuver the gear shifter, shut the vehicle off and back on to get the gear to shift into park. the dealer (belk ford in baltimore md 410-766-3600) had been notified of the failure several times. the dealer diagnosed that the torque shaft boos failed and that the transmission fluid was a quart low and black. the dealer later indicated that the transmission assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v393000 (power train) which was for the 2014 model. the manufacturer issued 10 power train tsb but with no recall campaign, no warranty coverage they expected the owner to have the dealer replace the transmission assembly the approximate failure mileage was 49,250.

The ford edge has developed a problem with the pdu unit which actually failed. according to the ford mechanics this is a chronic problem with some of the failures causing the units to split open redendering the vehicle inoperable. if the vehicle cannot be driven if failure occurs when driving it could easily cause an accident in some circumstances. luckily if one is very observant and notices the unit leaking oil and get it checked out it can be replaced prior to total failure. when the leak was seen on our garage floor i got it checked out. not knowing what was wrong the vehicle was taken on a trip prior to getting it checked out and luckily did not fail during the 400 mile trip. when we got home the unit was leaking alot and was told not to drive it until the replacement was installed. the dealer found that there were no replacements in the ford warehouse system and that it could take 2 to 3 weeks to get it in. this reaffirms that alot of these units are failing and will continue to fail until a more permanent is made. replacing a bad part design with the same thing is not a permanent fix, just a band-aid which only delays another failure.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while shifting into park, a "shift to park" message appeared and a beeping sound was heard. the contact also stated that the interior lighting and instrument panel lighting remained illuminated after exiting the vehicle. the contact would have to re-enter the vehicle, restart the vehicle, and shift the gear shifter several times until the message and interior lighting turned off. the vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the contact researched the failure online and found other owners with the same failure. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Incident was in local street when my wife was reversing the car from the driveway then staring suddenly locked and car got shut off. as car was middle of the road with baby so few people came to help and push the car back into the driveway. my wife tried to start again and car got started. we took the car to ford dealer shop again and again they did not find any issue. ford gave us car back and make sure that this car is safe to drive.

When putting the vehicle into park after driving it the vehicle will not acknowledge the car is in park. the vehicle is in fact in park and will not move, but the park indicator light will not light up and the car will not shut off until 20 seconds to several minutes when it finally figures out that it is in park.

Issue occurred twice in my car within a month. 1st one, i was driving on highway with my family in speed of around 60 mile/hours due to traffic, all off sudden a message pooped up on my screen to park the car. as i was driving inner lane so could not park on shoulder side but parked inner side which was very dangerous. car lost power and did not start but heater was on with high heat and fan. all lights were off could not switch on emergency lights. i towed my car to local shop in that town to find the issue but they could not find anything. they could manage to shut off the heater and next day it worked but they asked me to take to ford dealer shop. i took the car to ford dealer shop in my town but they also did not find any issue and assure that issue will not happen again and safe to drive. which was strange to me that without knowing the actual reason how they can be so sure that this car is safe to drive again. 2nd incident was in local street when my wife was reversing the car from the driveway then staring suddenly locked and car got shut off. as car was middle of the road with baby so few people came to help and push the car back into the driveway. my wife tried to start again and car got started. we took the car to ford dealer shop again and again they did not find any issue. ford gave us car back and make sure that this car is safe to drive.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the gear shifter failed to display the park light when the contact placed the gear into park. the contact spoke with a representative at the dealer and was informed that the gear shifter needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000. updated 08/08/17*lj

The advance trac warning light comes on if the car has been idling for more than 5 minutes. the traction control light comes on and say my traction control is off. the car only has 38,000 miles. i have heard that others have had this issue with the ford edge. once i start moving the warning light will eventually go away after a few minutes.

My truck displays "shift to park" when in park and the indicator is not illuminated whether the engine is off or on. i had to replace a battery due to this problem. even though the car is off the electronics stay on drawing power because it's not sensing the vehicle is in park. this problem is widely known and ford has a tsb for the shifter but no recall. i've had nothing but problems with this vehicle and will not purchase another ford again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while the vehicle was stationary on an incline, it rolled backwards and crashed into a parked vehicle. the contact left the vehicle in the neutral position and temporarily exited the vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed and there were no injuries sustained. balise ford of cape cod (90 high school road ext, hyannis, ma 02601, (508) 815-4007) replaced the ignition in december of 2016, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was repaired a second time by the dealer. the dealer replaced the gear selector lever, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

Sounds like the axel is falling completely off completely disengaging from the front driver side wheel. after consulting with local dealership, they stated it appears the axel is coming out of the transmission due to some valve. dealership stated it is not covered on the same recalls as the other 2013s though it appears it is the same issue.

While driving there was an sudden unexpected loss of power and had to immediately pull over on the edge of the road causing a dangerous situation. there was no response from the throttle. after the car was turned off for about 1 minute then restarted, it was acting normal and was able to merge back into the oncoming traffic also in a dangerous situation. *tr

Leaving store parking lot, wrench light came on as i lost all power to accelerator. i could step on gas but nothing happened, all other functions still worked. i quickly threw the car in reverse and was able to avoid rolling into oncoming traffic. when i opened the hood, the engine was shaking a lot! i turned the car off and my family and i took a taxi home, leaving our 6 day old car in an empty parking lot. the next day the car turned on and i drove it to a safer parking lot with no problems?

Vehicle lost total power while going 70mph on the highway. needed to pull over. a message icon "wrench" appeared on the information panel. "wrench" referred to power train problem.did a internet search in reference the power train issue and found other similar situations.

Car will stall and go into limp mode, yellow wrench appears on left hand display. this has happened twice within the last 3 months, once in the middle lane of a rush hour freeway travelling at 40mph. i was lucky to get across to the shoulder before i lost all momentum. no response when pushing the accelerator, engine shakes badly. have to restart the car in order to continue travel. all research points to faulty electronic throttle body. ford service center advisers agree but refuse to perform repair under warranty as there are no codes. the codes get wiped after restarting the engine.

When you are stopped and 'shift to park' and push the button to turn off the vehicle, it dings keeps telling me to 'shift to park'. you need to continue turning off and on and moving the gear shifter between park and drive to finally get it to turn off. i see online that this has been an ongoing problem with some awd vehicle from ford. *tr

There is a sudden loss of power while driving, the engine idles roughly, and the accelerator stops working - this is all while in the process of driving the car. there were complaints filed back in 2013 and a lawsuit related to other ford vehicles regarding this issue (defective electronic throttle control). this model and year, however, is not part of the group ford agreed to fix and there was never a formal recall. this puts drivers in a dangerous situation...losing power while driving.

2013 ford edge vehicle looses power while driving it can happen at any point while driving or simply backing up it will stall and shake and pressing the gas does nothing. the car basically shuts down while driving.. the only thing you can do is coast and pray that you make it to the shoulder of the freeway safely. the throttle body has been fixed less than 8 months ago and still issue has started again. i've searched online and founds pages and pages and pages of the same complaints... there was also a recall of other ford vehicles with that same issue... when i initially took my car to the dealership (joe myers ford on nwo freeway) my service rep advised that it's a known issue even in the 2016 models. he drove one the same day with that issue.. but of course i paid $900 to have this issue resolved.. this issue needs to be resolved before someone dies.

Drivers door ajar display is on when the door is closed. takes multiple attempts to close door for the display light to go away. when light is on, doors won't lock and do not know if a real door ajar message is valid. also, car loses power when driving. just loses power and is extremely dangerous if you can't get off the road in time before getting hit. have read many complaints about both safety issues with the edge, door lock sensor and halfshaft retention circlip coming loose.

While traveling at highway speeds vehicle suddenly loss power to transmission and engine and ended up going 1 mph. could not accelerate and barely missed being struck by other vehicles. "wrench" warning indicator came on and i pulled my auto over to side of roadway. turned the ignition off, waited 1 minute and restarted and the auto was normal again. day later pulling out into traffic same episode again just barley avoiding a collision again. dealership advises faulty electric throttle body defective. this is a major safety issue and needs to be resolved immediately before this results in a fatality. i had two separate incidents that could have resulted in a fatality. when the vehicle goes limp you are powerless to do anything if your lucky to get to the side of the road without getting hit from the rear or t-boned.

I was driving at 50 mph down a state road and the car stalled with no warning. there was no place for me to pull over as there is no breakdown lanes and car did not have enough power to go over curb. car was towed to the nearest ford dealership where i was told it is the trottle body. the part is on national backorder and was told they have no idea when the part will be avaliable. this car has 44120 miles. this could have been a very bad situation if the tow company i called was not 4 miles away and hurry to my rescue knowing that i was on a very fast road and could not get out of road to safety.

At the end of february my "door ajar" light kept staying on after closing it- i had to repeatedly close it to get the light to go off. on march 5th my vehicle lost power while traveling down a main highway at night with my 2 year old daughter. i had to pull over and wait for someone to come help us. i am just thankful i wasn't on a major highway or interstate when this happened. i called ford on march 7th to question it and they told me to take it in. i learned on march 15th that the driver's side door latch had gone bad and since it stayed on it killed my battery along with my throttle body had gone bad in my car as well. i researched and found several other fords models that had these same issues with recalls or customer satisfaction programs but my particular vehicle and parts weren't covered. i have in turned been waiting now 5 weeks for the throttle body part for my car, which has left me having to borrow a way to go because i can't afford to fix my car and pay for a rental. ford still will not tell me why the part is backordered. i don't see why its my responsibility to pay for these repairs when there are so many other fords in this year range with these same issues that are being covered. i never thought it would take 5 weeks to come up with a part and now the anticipated ship date has been moved from april 8th to april 28th. this is uncalled for. my car is my only way to go and too new to be having these types of issues. my only assumption is there are an excessive amount of ford vehicles with these same issues and ford should be covering them for faulty parts.

While driving at speed, vehicle started to sputter and lost power, lost all function and had to pull over on the side of the road. engine sputtered badly, with the wrench light on. turned the vehicle off and back on and ran smoothly again. it has happened a few times.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while the vehicle was stopped, the contact shifted into park and a chime sounded and a warning indicator illuminated. the contact wiggled the shifter and the chime and warning indicator went away. the failure occurred approximately ten times. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

2013 ford edge limited awd 2 weeks before thanksgiving..the vehicle was parked in our garage a few minutes after my wife got home from a 16 mile round trip to town. i heard a high pitch noise from the engine, performed a visual inspection and saw no problems. assumed it was normal and that it would turn off on its own. most new vehicles have a function to turn off any device before it drains the battery. the next day we went to start the vehicle and it was completely dead. jumped it and my wife took to work. worked fine the rest of the day. she got home and i heard the noise again. checked it with battery tester and had a load on the vehicle and battery was already down to 75%. took to local mechanic and he diagnosed as mechanism in transmission staying on and recommended dealer repair. dealer misdiagnosed it as aftermarket autostart 2 times and charged me to replace the battery the second time. finally on the 4th trip to the dealer, the malfunction happened while they had the vehicle. dealer replaced mechanism in transmission, this did not solve problem. dealer ordered drive train computer(waited over a month for part), this has not fixed the problem. it is now the first week of february(almost 3mnths later) and the vehicle is still at the dealer and they cannot find what is wrong with it. someone please help!!!!!!!!!

Parking doesn't engage at times. i get a message "shift to park".

For the second time in the 40k miles that i have owned my new ford edge the ptu seal has failed. this time when the dealership took it apart to replace, they found metal shavings inside, so they are replacing the entire unit. horrible smell, very caustic, makes my nose burn. happens after driving and when you come to a stop or slow down the cabin fills with a noxious smell.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle hesitated and made a loud banging noise. the contact stated that the gear did not feel properly engaged. when the vehicle was in drive, it started to roll backwards. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer for a week, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that nothing could be done. the failure was not remedied. the failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

Part of the dashboard will madly change on its own going though the different options like it's stuck; the navigation display and dash board when starting the car will not always light up like it used to do. there is a delay at times. the ambiant lighting nomatter how many times i choose pink it always defaults back to blue on its own. my car has begun to make a horrible noise under the carriage, we suspect it is a transmission issue. it feels like the vehicle struggles to move forward. just the other evening after leaving work, my interior overhead lights would not go off. nomatter how many times i tried to turn them off. the electrical issue with the dash board began a while back and the noise just recently. the mileage on my car is 36,000 more or less. this should not be happening to our car. well taken care of, i drive it to work and back. the car just turned in august 2 years. i have an appointment at the dealership this coming tuesday. i believe my car is still under the power train warranty, i pray that it is. just today, my vehicle would not lock as well. i will update as soon as i take it to the service dept.

Wrench light come on refer to manual my car start losing power in middle of road i pull on side of road turn car off when i start car again light was gone and my car was ok check manual it say power train malefactions call dealership they told me they can't do nothing because light is not on so basic i need to drive car that can stop from working any time and get in accident because dealership don't wont to do anything if light is not on but when light is on my car is not drivable

I was driving on the highway and there was a slight jolt.the service engine soon light came on and i lost all acceleration. when i stepped on the gas nothing what happening. i was able to coast to the shoulder and put the vehicle in park. in park the vehicle idled very rough. i turned the vehicle off and moments i tried to turn the vehicle and it took about 5 seconds for the vehicle to turn over, but when it did turn on the warning light was gone and the gas pedal worked. when i stepped on the gas the rpm's went up. i put the car in drive and it worked normal. i've read a about 100 reviews from three different websites from people who this same thing has happened. this seems to be a inherit and common problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving on the highway at an unknown speed, the parking light illuminated on the instrument panel. the electrical power failed. the contact was unable to place the vehicle into park and activate the hazard lights. the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the shifter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 47,724.

I was driving my ford edge 2013 about 35 mph when suddenly the engine lost it's power to idle, luckily i was in a rural road and i was able to stop the car in the side of the road, in the front panel a yellow wrench symbol with no message appears, i turn off the engine and wait about 30 seconds then i started it back again and continue my way without any problem, the next day (yesterday night) i experience the same problem but this time entering in the highway at speed about 55 mph with the same results as the day before. i bought this car last tuesday.

Car in park rolled back after driver exited and hit car behind while giving car to valet also: push button starter takes several pushes to turn off car/ warning lights indicating danger of crash activate with no other vehical near/ actual gas milage of v6 significantly less than government certified. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while approaching a traffic light, the vehicle failed to stop without warning. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 12,800.

My left rear door stays ajar which keeps the lights on which kills my battery. also when i'm in park my drive traction control light turns off and on. as a ford customer i wish they would recall these defects so i wouldn't have to pay for parts out of my own pocket. *tr

This has now happened to me three times and all three times were during rush hour traffic and i was lucky to not be hit from behind. i will be driving and i suddenly get a wrench light on my dash board and then lose the ability to accelerate my car and it basically coasts to a stop and i can feel a shaking/rumbling from the engine. when i put the car in park and turn it off, i can turn it back on and it is like nothing happened and the light goes away and i can continue driving home. i called the dealer and they said they can only fix it if they see the wrench light on so they can pull the code, meaning i have to have my car towed to the dealer while still on. only problem is every time it has happened has been after work at night when the dealers are already closed. i am now nervous every time i drive the car and am afraid to get on highways. *tr

While driving - even though the driver door is completely shut, the driver door ajar warning sign appears on the dashboard screen accompanied by the sound of a chime. sometimes when you open and shut the driver door whether while still driving or if and when you find a side of the road space, the warning sign disappears. but oftentimes, it takes 3 or four tries to make it disappear. sometimes the driver door ajar warning comes with an instruction to shift to p (park) . . . . which is helpful if you can find a side of the road spot otherwise the instruction will just confuse a novice driver and could potentially create an accident. i search the internet and found this problem is very common with ford edge. i feel that this problem could potentially create an accident and warrants a recall. *tr

Our 2013 edge will go to idle and stop pulling randomly, the wrench light comes on have to pull over and shut off then it will reset. this happened yesterday with my wife driving vehicle on a entrance ramp at night, cars coming onto ramp almost hit her because it is not well lit there. will not let her drive vehicle any more until we can get a throttle body replaced. it is only a matter of time before someone is hurt or killed with this type of failure. ford needs to send out a safety recall for this failure!!!!!! *tr

Performing a routine service notice rear transmission seal leaking. under pin very wet with fluid. *tr

Driving my grandson to his basketball game last friday evening, driving on the hwy at 60 mph, my power steering completely quit. i had to drag the car to the side of the road where it totally shut down. i had it towed to the dealer and was told the power steering belt broke and wrapped around the crank shaft. i had no warning at all, nothing showed on the dash to check engine or service. very terrifying experience, luckily we didn't have an accident while trying to get it off the hwy. *tr
