Broken shifter cable. while parking my 2013 ford edge in my garage (house sits on a very big hill), my vehicle started rolling away from me. attempting to get back in wasn't possible. my vehicle rolled down a very steep drive way and could have killed anyone in its way! after looking online i found that ford recalled 504,000 escape and fusion vehicles. i did not find where ford edge was mentioned. this needs to be made aware to the people who own ford edge! my life could have been destroyed forever if someone was killed or severely hurt! after talking to the mechanic who fixed my vehicle, he told me this incident wasn't my fault, that the shift cable was broke and the car started rolling on its own right at his shop. it was not possible to put the car in the park position. my vehicle door and fender were destroyed upon leaving my garage because i opened the door to try and get back in the vehicle. i had to jump out of the way or i would have been crushed between the door and my house.
Recently had my vehicle serviced for an ongoing door lock issue where ford extended warranty coverage. during the most recent service on 7 jan 2020, the service advisor also indicated and documented that the ptu (power transfer unit) is leaking from a vent and that indicates it needs to be replaced at approx $1,800.00. the vehicle as noted in their records and my odometer, had only 39,100 miles at this time. per research on the web it appears this is a well known issue with the ford edge that ford is aware of and discontinued using that particular ptu. when questioned, the ford advisor at holman ford indicated he was not aware of any such issues nor that a different drive part was now being used by ford. ford is not offering any form of compensation or credit or any recompense at this time.
This car is horrible. multiple safety issues! first, my axle needs to be redone. clicking and popping with all turns. secondly, the electronics are haywire, with the ac blowing hot on one side and cold on the other and not starting with brand new batteries. third, the brake system... had the booster go out. ford replaced and upon the drive back, it failed even worse locking my engine, smoke fromthe brakes being locked up. i had to tow back on my expense and rent a car for days. the replaced the booster, but i still have even worsening brake issues. ford told me i need a new abs and master cylinder. it only did this after the 2 failed boosters... now if i hit a bump or gravel while pressing the brakes, my brakes go out! i mean they fail! luckily i haven't hit anyone yet. it's off and on but happens with no warning. the pedal goes all the way to the floor and there's the constant sound of hissing and air. i have contacted ford multiple times which is horrible and taken to the dealership where i leave with no problems until the next unexpected blow out on the brakes. all you have to do is google this model and there are tons and tons of reports of complaints for the same issue. ford should stand by their products and fix to avoid injuries, death and lawsuits. i had no issues with my car until other than the initial brake booster failure, until my car was left with smoke all under my car from the second brake booster. i got one thing fixed only to have major problems after. how is that fair? obviously ford didn't fix correctly and/or gave me bad equipment which burned my system up. now i need to pay for my abs to be fixed? shame on ford! very dangerous. will never buy ford again. at least the foreign cars stand by their products. buyers beware the edge is tainted.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving 25 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact inspected the vehicle and found an oil leak under the rear passenger side. also, when parking the vehicle, it rolled forward when the emergency brake was not applied. the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 14v393000 (power train). the contact called summit ford (located at 200 buffalo mountain dr, silverthorne, co 80497, (970) 262-9230) and informed them of the failure. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 100,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving approximately 45 mph on an incline, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle lost power. the contact stated that the vehicle started rolling backwards. the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle kept rolling backwards. the brake pedal was depressed and stopped the vehicle. the gear shift selector was placed in the park position and the vehicle was turned off. after a while, the vehicle was restarted and vibrated abnormally. the vehicle was taken to parkway ford (located at 2104 peters creek pkwy, winston-salem, nc 27127, (877) 836-4271) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 116,000. the vin was invalid.
Driving on county road, my vehicle suddenly stopped. wrench symbol lit up on dash. the gas pedal had no effect but engine remained running.towed to a goodyear service station: they said they could not find a problem and the sensors showed no indication of a problem. on the way home it did the same thing. turning the car off and removing the key, car starts back up. took car to ford dealer. they too said they could not duplicate the problem. and that when i turn the engine off it clears the computer. they returned the car but charged $140. same problem occurred two days later. called ford from side of the road. they said their transmission guy was off until tuesday (this was friday afternoon). drove about 8 miles and it happened again. it seems like the transmission disengages. i have read that many ford edge's have a problem with the etb but as far as i know there has been no recall.
My wife's 2013 ford edge looses power while driving. the accelerator stops working and the car stops functioning. this has happened many times. we have called whites ford in urbana ohio to check on recall. there are no recalls for this and the vehicle is very unsafe to drive. the edge has 67k miles on it. has never been involved in any accident. ford should address these issues. we only drive the vehicle when necessary due to us not knowing when it will just loose power.
My car will all of a sudden stop excels rating at high speeds. the rpms increase as the speeds decreases. the ford dealerships can not figure it out as it has to be doing it. it can happen 30 minutes into driving and then maybe 1.5 hours is, there is no consistency. it has happens for the past year. and now tracing for the past summer it is very anxious driving this car. i am not sure my car was cleared really with all the recalls.
Car was making a loud humming noise while in motion.
I bought a used 2013 ford edge: sport trim, 3.7l awd with 84,000 miles on june 8th. inspection was fine. i drove it home 1400 miles the next 2 days, and never drove it hard at all. it rained the whole way. driving felt a bit odd at times, though i attributed that to my unfamiliarity with the new vehicle. upon arriving home i had the oil changed and was informed that there was a major transmission leak. upon my re-inspection, it was dripping at every stop, sometimes leaving 2-5" diameter puddles. i took it to the ford dealership where they diagnosed that transmission was fine, but the power transfer unit was leaking and the entire unit needed replacement. cost of repair, $1800. upon researching, the unit which claims to have a "lifetime fluid" of gear-oil has a serious design flaw in which the unit is not properly cooled, and the "lifetime fluid" breaks down due to heat, causing the unit to fail. this serious design flaw could have caused my trip through the rain to have resulted in a catastrophic failure that would have endangered my safety, the vehicle's performance in the rain, and the lives of others. this is not an isolated incident. i am now stuck unable to drive the vehicle because i can't afford the $1800 repair, and driving the vehicle in this condition is dangerous. this part needs to be recalled asap, and ford needs to take responsibility for this defective part before someone gets killed.
I found spots of fluid on my garage floor and in my driveway that was leaking from my car. ford dealer informed me this fluid is leaking from transmission ptu.
2013 edge with 53,000 miles - 3-4 months out of the power train warranty. experienced intermittent noises when vehicle is cold (i.e. grinding noise, engine running irregular, and faint humming at engine/transmission). this only happened approximately 3-4 times total with many days in between while the vehicle is moving. very slight at first and progressed and became little more pronounced. when i would stop, the engine was calm and still. i would wonder if it was even still running. it took the dealership over a week to diagnose because it was intermittent and the mechanic had to continue to drive it before it happened again. finally, formally diagnosed 5/22/19 as a failed ptu. no fluid leaks and all seals intact. very little price break on labor and/or parts. the dealership refers you to corporate ford for any part and/or warranty complaints. since there was no core charge, i did request that the failed part be returned after replacement. without intervention to force ford to acknowledge that there is problem, this part will continue to be produced and installed on vehicles. lastly, with the foreknowledge mentioned above about this vehicles' ptu issues. i would certainly hesitate to buy any ford edge or flex because of this substandard part that should be recalled for consumer safety reasons. keep in mind that the fix is only to put this same poorly designed replacement part back on the vehicle - only to wait for it to possibly fail again.
When the car is running and in park there is an error on the dash service advancetrac. also on several occasions the engine increases rpm and the car has actually rolled several feet when this happens.
Car would periodically shut down and i would be unable to accelerate. would have to pull to side of road, shut engine off and restart car to be able to drive. became worse and worse, researched online and discovered many other people were having same issues. finally took car to mechanic, had to have throttle body replaced which cost $475.18 i do not understand why this is not a recall issue with ford when so many people are experiencing this issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that there was a constant failure with the transmission gear slipping out of drive. the contact was uncertain if the failure may progress to the other gears rendering the risk of a potential catastrophic crash. the problem was getting worse to the point that there was a reduction in speed when needing to pick up speed due to a delay in the gears changing over. the vehicle was inspected by three different repair facility independent certified mechanics for a technical diagnosis as transmission specialists. the dealer borgman ford (3150 28th st sw, grandville, mi 49418, (616) 534-7651) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v393000 (power train) for this year model vehicle. the dealer was not authorized to diagnose the vehicle yet until further guidance was provided by the manufacturer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
Transmission jerking, shuddering, stalling, in motion. seat belt get stock, camera sometimes works, and sometimes dont work.
Ptu went out with less than 59,000 miles. vehicle started making humming noise upon acceleration, then smell of burning oil/fluid at stop lights. after about 2 weeks it starting making a really loud clanking noise that sounded like the whole powertrain was going to fall out. also, could feel it in the steering wheel when it got to that point.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving various speeds or while the vehicle was stationary, there was a strong odor of fuel detected inside the vehicle and the ignition fuel warning indicator illuminated. the contact also mentioned that the passenger side door ajar warning indicator illuminated when the door was completely closed. furthermore, the passenger door did not lock. the vehicle was taken to jordan ford (13010 i-35, live oak, tx 78233, (210) 653-3673) where it was diagnosed that the fuel line needed to be replaced before it caught fire. also, the half shaft needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v002000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 115,000.
My daughter left for work at 6 in the morning, it was minus 25/30 with the wind chill. she went to make a left turn on to a main state truck route and the car started to shake and shutter and lost all power. the engine light came on too. after the car quit completely it then was restarted. it continued to act up. a friend checked it and his computer was showing codes for the throttle body and sensors. it is now at the dealership. i called ford and was told there is no recall or extended warranty for the issue. i was told they would note my complaint and if it is ever recalled or ok'd for and extended warranty then they would let us know and she could be reimbursed. we live off 2 state truck routes that are heavily traveled, but as she is a young female at dark with a vehicle that is dark and the road is icy and its cold enough that schools and places have shut down and people have died from exposure in this , i will not lose a child because ford is to lazy to pull their head outta their keister and start thinking old school again and consider their customers. fix the issue! don't sweep it under the rug because its easier than facing your "new style" vehicles have issues. i have no use for ford. my expedition, my aunts expedition and her daughters escape all did this exact same thing. at this moment we are waiting to hear from the dealership as to what is going on. if this site allows me to update i will. she was going approximatly 30 mph and as she pressed on the gas peddle it slowly died.
Vehicle with 84k miles noticed leaking oil/lubricant. dealer discovered failing power takeoff transfer assembly. dealer also informed us that when the lubricant is lost to a certain point the unit will fail catastrophically and the power train will seize causing all four wheels to lock up. this constitutes a major on road safety issue. furthermore, we have been informed and have discovered in online media that this issue been reported with considerable frequency. yet, no action is being taken on the part of ford motor company. fortunately, in this case it was discovered before catastrophic failure occurred. thank you.
The power take off unit had to be replaced. unit was leaking oil. noticed issue after car was stationary
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the shoulder and then drove to don vance ford (14897 mo-38, marshfield, mo 65706). the dealer diagnosed that the power transfer unit failed and needed replacement. the contact also stated that the vehicle started to leak oil ever since it was purchased in june of 2017. the oil leak has worsened. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 154,802.
As i was driving the transmission disengaged and would not go back into gear. after towing to the dealership it was determined that the half shaft/cv axle was malfunctioning. this is a known safety issue with 2012-14 ford edge but because my vin was not included in the recall i was responsible for repairs.
Park light indication nit working when putting car in park. when shafting into park, the indicator on dash dies nit show p. it doesn't show any transmission setting. if i turn car off, an error appears saying to shift car into park. drying first few months, i could toggle the shift putt on or wiggle the shuffle control and the light indicating park would appear thus allowing me to turn car off without alarm. it is becoming increasingly difficult to get the light to appear after placing the lever in park. at times, i must restart the car if i have turned ignition off , reshift and hope it recignuzes the park setting. since the light is increasingly not lighting when in park, it's a guessing game when thrning car off. if it isn't recognuzed (although shift is in park) i cannot fully turn off car. once recognized in park (with or without light), the car turns off as it should and seat moves back and no warnings occur. i have researched a bit, it is a known problem but ford wants hundreds if dollars to repair. i am not sure if car us in park or nit any longer
Mechanic informed me that the power take off unit was leaking and needed repace. failure to do so would endanger me since car transmission would fail. mechanic stated that this is a known problem with ford pto units, however ford refuses to recall auto to repair problem
When gas pedal is pressed that car stalls and it feels like it doesn't want to shift to go faster. it ended up not wanting to go forward any longer. it will only reverse.
The transmission will disengage and you have 0 power. this has happened 6 times. sometimes it will be at 50mph and sometimes it will be from a stop which is extremely dangerous because you cannot accelerate. you have to pull over, shift to park or neutral, turn off the car, then restart the car and it works again. if this happened while turning left at a busy light and the car lost power it could be catastrophic.
While driving my 2013 ford edge at 70mph on the highway in traffic i received a wrench notification on my dash and the engine began to stall leaving me with no power to control my speed. as my car quickly reduced speed on a major highway i attempted to get over to the shoulder out of harms way. once i was off the highway the vehicle began to shake and i powered down the vehicle. when starting the vehicle again i was prompted with the check engine light.
Was driving the car and the accelerator just goes dead. this is the second time in 3 years it has happened while driving 65 mph. very scary. have to cruise to side of the road as the gas peddle will not respond at all. ford already charged us $750 to fix in 2016 and now it has happened again. very unsafe electronic throttle body was already replaced once unexceptable
Driving home on a local street that allowed 25mph - i was going 23 mph the wrench light came up the car started shaking and the speed reduced to under 5ph. i managed to pull the car over, put it in gear and turn it off, took the keys out and waited for about 5 minutes and started the car - the light went off and i was able to drive myself home. i'm afraid to drive it again. next to the wrench light was a message to refer to the car manual. the manual identifies the wrench light symbol as "powertrain malfunction/reduced power" powertrain or awd fault has been detected. incident occured on 9/14/18 at 8:20pm on a clear night with little humidity neither the radio or the heat/ac was on. i had the window partly opened.
Vehicle was running fine as i pulled out of my driveway onto a state highway. once i attempted to accelerate the vehicle started sputtering and acted like it was going to die. an orange wrench appeared on my dash and said "see manual". i was able to turn the vehicle around and going about 2 miles an hour made it back into my driveway...it continued sputtering and knocking till i parked it. once parked the vehicle idled fine but if i would put it back into gear it would start the sputtering/dying process again. this is the 2nd time this has happened while driving. the first time i filed a complaint as well because the ford dealership could not duplicate the problem and there wasn't an error code. the first time i was driving on the highway at 70 mph with the cruise on and it completely cut out and i had to maneuver my way to the shoulder. i turned the car off and back on and it seemed to reset it. again the dealership couldn't find anything wrong or duplicate the problem, even though they said problems like this had been reported by other ford edge owners.
On 6 occasions now my 2013 ford edge while driving has thrown up a check engine sign and the car will just pretty much die while in heavy traffic to the point that i am barely moving. then second time it happened i took it to ford they said it was the battery so i bought a new battery and still since then it continues to do it all of these way before my warranty was up but ford could never find anything wrong with it on the other occurrences. on 8/18/2018 the car threw up a wrench sign again while driving and the car pretty much shut down i barely made it off the side of the road before being hit by another car. all occurrences have been on the interstate had it not been for luck i don't know how i kept from being hit due to the car pretty much would only roll because pressing on the gas did not good. once to safety and pulled over to restart the car it would start and be okay then several weeks sometimes months it would do it again. last occurrence was 8.18/2019
2013 ford edge went into limp home mode. the accelerator pedal did not work. the car idled roughly and had normal a/c, brakes and steering. the car was going 55 mph on a crowded roadway.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving approximately 20 mph, the transmission failed. upon stopping, the vehicle would not accelerate and a rattling and knocking sound could be heard within the transmission. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 137,000. *tt consumer stated power transfer case oil leaker. some how oil leaked from power transfer case out is a sealed unit. cost of repair $2,000.00. this problem exist in many ford edges not just mine. it's a manufacturing problem that needs to be looked at. updated 10/16/18*jb
This is the second time i have taken my vehicle to the dealership for this issue. the vehicle is still under an extended warranty. the issue first occured june 5. as i was leaving work the transmission began slipping/hesitating from a stop or during acceleration. the vehicle would jump/jerk when pressing the gas pedal. would not switch to a higher gear. when applying brakes vehicle would jump/jerk when trying to shift. periods when the vehicle would get to speed then slip. there was no prior damage to vehicle to cause this malfunction. i took the vehicle to the dealership i purchased it, and left it with them after the service agent was barely able to drive around the block. after 2 weeks of calling the dealership to check the status of the vehicle, i was told that they couldn't find anything wrong with it, and returned the vehicle on june 19th, and has not driven the same prior to this issue. this morning, july 13th, when i pulled out onto the frontage road the vehicle would not accelerate to speed and hesitated. i was able to get off the roadway and took the vehicle back to the dealership for this issue.
While driving the vehicle on a main thorough fare and even on a highway it began to lose power and slow down regardless of pressing the gas. then it began to ride rough and choke and the check engine light comes on along with the low oil pressure light. also experienced it shutting off while sitting with it idle in a fast food line. when i took it to the dealer they insisted nothing was wrong and could not get a read on the computer. i refused to pick it up from the dealer until they experienced what i experienced and it finally happened after 9 days.
Traveling on secondary road and experienced sudden power loss. "awd off" message appeared on screen, along with wrench icon. i managed to limp onto the shoulder (thank god i was not on the highway). car would not rev up or move. i turned the engine off, and restarted it. everything seemed to be fine at that point, but i am very afraid of this happening during my daily commute on a busy highway.
When placing vehicle in park, warning indicates transmission is still in drive gear and unable to safely shut down engine. this problem is intermittent and occurs when reverse was last drive gear used. frequency of the problem is about 1 in 50. each time it is required to restart vehicle and place transmission into drive then back to park to correct. due to use of hand brake there has been no instances of the vehicle moving uncontrolled.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while the vehicle was stationary, the throttle body malfunctioned. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal slightly and the vehicle rapidly lunged forward independently. due to the failure, the contact struck the dashboard and was injured. medical attention was not received. hub city ford in lafayette, louisiana was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,000.
Gear case is too close to the catalytic converter and the gear fluid is heating up and blowing out of the breather tube. gear case holds 12 oz of fluid and no way to tell how much is still left inside. could damage the transmission. i was told by the ford dealership that this equipment should never have to be fixed or replaced. it is a ford design flaw. ford company will not accept responsibility.
When i go to put my car i park and take my foot off the break the car will roll forward several feet or if i am on a hill it will roll backward several feet. when i am driving on the highway the car will just stop accelerating at 80mph. on several occasions i was trying to get around a truck and the car just stopped accelerating almost causing an accident.
Power transfer case (ptu) on awd not functioning. vehicle making excessive road noise, low rumbles as accelerating through 20-25 mph from stop, grinding noises and hesitations when coming to a stop. mileage around 79000. age of vehicle will be 5 years old in march 2018. road noise began about two months ago, but originally attributed to new tire noise. has increased in volume since. rumbling noises began last month sporadically. grinding and hesitations began last week.
Stepping on the gas will not ship to higher gear - seems stuck in 1 or second gear is this a shaft linkage issue? - i see a recall.
While driving we lost all power and the wrench icon with "see manual" appeared on the dash. the wrench icon is a powertrain fault alert. it's obviously dangerous to lose power while driving and be stuck in traffic and with our children in the car it's a little more nerve-racking. pressing the gas does nothing to the rpms when this happened. the engine was idling rough and sputtering. (plenty of gas in the car). car has been towed to the dealer. when i started the car for the tow truck, the alert was gone and the car was able to drive. very strange and the car can't be trusted right now.
Takata recall. the ptu has gone bad at 80,000 miles. also was in a car accident where the airbags should have deployed and they did not
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. when the gear shift was in drive, an error message appeared stating that the shift was in park. the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken to c wimberley ford (56081 m 51 s, dowagiac, mi 49047) where a diagnostic test was not provided. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 62,743.
Leaking ptu. $1800 to repair. read on internet that's it's a well known problem caused by a design issue. there is no way to drain flush and refill the ptu apparently some companies are drilling and tapping the unit to add a needed plug. ford was not interested in addressing the problem. my case number with ford is cas 13398813
When the problem started about 1 1/2 months ago, i would be driving and the car would simply begin slowing down until it was stopped, no matter how much gas i tried to give it. after this happening 2 times and the check engine light coming on, i took it to the dealership and they said the fuel pump was faulty and changed it. i got the car back approx. 2 weeks ago. last friday, 10/6/17, i was on my way home from work and the same thing again, expect this time, the autotrain error (a wrench) came on, as well as the check engine light. it stopped 3 times on the way home - each time i pulled over (as well as i could), turned the car off and recranked it. each time i would turn the car off and recrank it, the warning lights would go off and then come back on as soon as the car lost power again. i finally got it home. my husband decided to put a new battery in (since i'm also having problems the door open alert - another story). after putting the battery in, he drove it around for 30 minutes or so with no problems. it worked fine all weekend. the following wedn., 10/11/17, i was on my way to work and was in the middle of an intersection when it suddenly lost power again - engine still running, but nothing happening when i pressed the gas and the autotrain & check engine light came on. i almost got hit by another car. i finally was able to pull over, turn it off and let it sit for a minute and then came on to work with no more problems. it's terrifying not knowing when it's going to suddenly lose power. i searched the internet & discovered there are many people reporting this same problem & have been told its a problem with the throttle body. i'm taking it back to ford this evening. if more than a few people have reported this, this issue needs to be fixed by ford. someone is going to get hurt.
2nd time i get the shift to park error. ford fixed it 1 time already under warranty and now i have the same issue again and it's out of warranty. if you don't resolve the issue before you leave the vehicle, it will kill your battery.
Driving along on freeway feeder and electronic throttle body did not work and i could not drive my car. had to stop and put on emergency blinkers. had to spend $542.99 to get it fixed as it was not controllable. the car is only 4 years old. this should not happen. never been involved in accident, flood or etc.
