Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2013 Ford Edge

When my driver's side door is closed, the door open sensor chimes & the door open indicator is lit up on the dashboard. if i silence it, the light remains on and anytime i come to a stop and my foot is removed from the brake, the alarms start chiming again. i took it to the dealership on 10/3/14 for this issue as well as two other issue, one of which is part of the door panel popping apart. when i got the car back, the problem no longer existed. fast forward to this last month. the door was again becoming an issue. meaning, the problem existed every time i closed my door but if i kept closing and opening the door, eventually after 5-6 times, the car would register the door as closed. i made an apt telling the service guy that i was having the problem again and we made an apt. i dropped off my car yesterday at 3:30. we got a call at 4 pm stating our car is no longer under warranty as we are over our 36,000 mileage limit (we are at 39,000). i reminded him it was covered because the issue was reported last year when they fixed it. he (sam) told me that he had gone through my invoices and there is no record of this work being done. i then said maybe they fixed it and forgot to write it down. i was told no that could not happen. i said they had to take the door panel off for the other issue and i was told that was nowhere near the sensor. i went to the parts counter and was told that indeed, the sensor is on the edge of the door and you would need to remove the panel to get to it. they told me that they would not cover it. i then informed them of how many other people are having the same issue so it is obviously not a wear and tear or personal mistreatment issue and that ford should not be shirking their responsibility and i was told my car was being brought around. ugh. so it is still not fixed and i am expected to come out of pocket to fix it. i can tell you this.

Door ajar light and chimes will stay on even though the drivers door is obviously closed. no matter how hard you close the door it still does this . this problem also will not allow the doors to be locked while driving . that is a hazard ! also, when the car is parked, the head liner lights stay lit for 10 minutes until the computer defaults them to turn off. because the sensor thinks the door is ajar. i do believe this is a hazard, do being able to lock the doors while driving is unacceptable:( *tr

Instrument panel shows the driver door is open, which it is not, and gives warning to shift vehicle to park. i must open and shut the door 5-12 times to get the warning to disappear. when the warning is on, the doors will not lock and the lights are on. *tr

Warning come on that the driver door is ajar even though it isn't. i have to slam the door shut several times before it goes off. the other doors do not lock when this happens and endangers my child because of this. also cannot lock the doors when leaving it parked if this happens. this issue is well documented by many people. i have no idea why nhtsa will not act on this. *tr

Shut off engine, pulled out the key, while leaving the vehicle the ignition alarm was sounding like the key was still in ignition. had to reinsert key pull it out and the ignition alarm shut off. the second time the car would not start untill the ignition was jiggled with key in same.

Driver side front door ajar light remains on after door is closed

Door sensor shows door jam and actually it is shut and doom light will not go off and doors will not look auto while drive i have been told this is a problem with door sensor and many complaints have been made. *tr

Driver door ajar warning_. have to shut the door numerous times in order for the warning to go off. interior lights stay on until the door is shut numerous time which has gotten to be really a pain. started experiencing this problem just outside the vehicle mileage warranty. dealer has refused to repair under warranty. this sucks. *tr ivoq n n n n 0 v n n

Instrument panel shows driver door ajar when door is not ajar. door has to be opened and closed repeatedly until instrument panel no longer shows driver door ajar. this prevents the car from being properly locked. the door ajar light will randomly come on while driving, causing cabin lights to illuminate, which is especially hazardous when it is dark out. this is a serious issue with multiple ford vehicles and must be addressed. *tr

The drivers door ajar light stays on even when the door is completely closed. the interior lights remain on and the doors will not lock due to the door ajar warning light being on. everytime i press the brakes to stop the truck tell me to shift the truck to park because of this. *tr

Get driver door ajar alarm when driver door is closed, which keeps dome light on, won't allow doors to lock when driving, and when driving and go from stop to drive get alarm shift to park because it senses door is ajar. this has been repaired and repair lasted about 6 mo. have to shut door several times before it senses door is closed and then on some occassions alarm will not go off at all.

The door is shut completely and it is still telling me that the door is ajar. *tr

The driver's side door sensor is not working. we have to slam the door several times for the door to close. right now my husband has been in the garage for over 20 minutes trying to get the edge to recognize that we shut the door. the vehicle is currently off and no keys in the car. you can also sit in the car and shut the door with the key in the ignition and it will not recognize that you have closed the door. the problem occurred last fall and was occasional, but has been consistent in the last month.

The door ajar sensor on driver's door has failed 3 times. the first time was the day we purchased the vehicle. the dealership fixed it. the next time was in february. now it has failed again. after you enter the vehicle, and shut the door the sensor still reads as the door is open. the doors will not lock the interior lights will not go out, and who knows what else isn't activated.

The drivers door ajar light stays on even when the door is completely closed. the interior lights remain on (hard to see at night with the interior light on) and the doors will not lock due to the door ajar warning light being on. every time i press the brakes to stop the truck tell me to shift the truck to park because of this. *tr

I have a 2013 ford edge se with driver door issue of not locking even if door is shut. door chime comes on letting me know that the door is not shut even though it is. if the door is not registering with the module saying it is shut what impact with this have on the air bags going off when needed. *tr

Driver door switch not letting module know the door is closed. door would have to be opened and closed multiple time before module or switch would pick it up. what affect will this have on the air bags if i need them? *tr

When you closed the door the sensor sounds like the door is open. lights stay on and is impossible to turn on the alarm. caused damaged to the battery. you need to close the door several times because the sensor keep indicated that the door is open.

1. sensor for fuel, had to pay for a keyed gas cap 2. twice door ajar on , took to garage first time, now it is the second time that it is doing it. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the "drivers door ajar" warning light illuminated sporadically. as a result, the vehicles warning chimes would intermittently activated, the map lights in the vehicle would stay lit, and the doors would not lock on their own. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 114,651.

Sensor keeps saying drivers side door is open and the door is closed. you can slam the door harder and it stills beeps & shows door is open!!! *tr

*tr

The door ajar sensor went on. when that goes on when backing up you can't see because the dome lights stays on causing a dangerous situation. it creates a glare making it hard to see what is behind you. the dome light will finally shut off when you go forward when a certain speed is meet. also when the dome light is on because of the sensor it will not lock the door. this sensor on my car was cleaned on 7/31/14 by a ford dealer. this only lasted about six month and i just had it the door latch replaced on 1/13/15 because of the same problem. recently i was stuck in traffic because a snow storm in which it took me 2-1/2 hours to get home. my typical commute home is 45 minutes. while i was in traffic 5:00 pm on 1/8/15 the door ajar sensor came on. the traffic was moving slow, my dome light came on and stayed on for over an hour which creating a glare while driving. it would never shut off because i never reached the forward speed fast enough to turn it off, also every time i let my foot off the break a bell would sound. i have spoken to our local ford dealer and they said they can't do anything about this until ford issues a recall. it is documented all over the internet that this is a common problem with ford edges. i feel that with the glare caused by the dome light staying on creates a hazard to both me and my family and ford should have the responsibility to do something about this. *tr

My door ajar light continues to come on. i shut the door multiple times and sometimes it turns off and some times it doesn't. i think the lock or latch on the door is faulty. *tr

Door ajar sensor indicates door is ajar when it clearly is not. this makes locking the doors impossible and causes the interior dome lights to illuminate. car is less than 2 years old. apparently, this is a problem with the switch assembly across numerous ford vehicles. *js

Closed the drivers side door, door ajar light came on and stayed on. beeper kept sounding. doors would not lock. when ignition was turned off, lights (interior, parking, mirror lights stayed on. radio turned off when ignition switch was turned off. auto opener did not work on drivers side and could not lock doors. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. when the door was closed, the panel light remained illuminated as if the door was still open and the chime sounded constantly. while driving approximately 45 mph downhill, the brakes failed without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the brake booster failed. the brakes were repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning light remained illuminated when the doors were closed. the contact mentioned that the failure caused the interior lights to remain illuminated when driving and the doors to be unable to lock. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who reset the computer but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Rear lift gate sensor broke at 20k.it would start to close then would open automatically. it had to be force closed.it took 2 weeks for the part but by then the lift gate motor was worn out too.i had to wait 2 more weeks for that part to completely repair the electric lift gate.at 36k my collision warning sensor often wouldn't work while driving.it stops the warning from alarming when the car in collision dange and it stops the car cruise control to automatically adjust the cars speed to keep a safe distance. the dealer said the bumper was damaged and the sensor was pointing down but don't know how that can be with no visible bumper damage.at 38k my drivers side door sensor almost always says the door is ajar as soon as entering and indicator illuminates and chimes and the interior light stays on for a period and the car can't be locked at this time all while driving.sometimes there is chiming with no indicator lights to what the problem is while driving.often the shift to park lights and chimes with the door ajar warning while driving and when the car is in park and after it is turned off. now there are is a constant warnings chiming and flashing before 39k. the car canted be locked when the door falsely indicates its ajar.

The drivers door ajar light stays on 90% of the time while driving down the road. when you shut the vehicle off and even if you remove the keys the lights all remain on as if you had the doors open and run the battery dead, only shows drivers door, all other door sensors are fine! i am an avid ford owner but i see so many others having the same issue, i hope to see a recall to fix this problem or our next vehicle might not be a ford!

the driver door says its ajar but actually is not, so if driving at night the dome lights are on witch is dangerous and the door locks will not lock if the vehicle system thinks it ajar. i think this should be recalled cause it is a safety issue #1 doors won't lock. #2 interior light won't go out if driving at night. *tr

We were on our way to texas from missouri. as we were traveling south on i35 a warning light came on the dash stating that the driver's door was ajar when it appeared to be shut. it then told us to shift to park and shut the door. we pulled over on i35 thinking it was something that we needed to do for safety reasons. my wife got out of the vehicle and was almost hit by a car at highway speeds. after shutting the door several times the warning light would not go off as well as the dome light. because of the issue the doors would not lock and the alarm would not arm itself. i have been a local police officer for kcpd for 14 years and have seen far too many accidents because of people pulling over on a highway. this issue needs to be addressed and fixed on all ford vehicles. after our trip i reserched this issue online and apparently its happening on several different ford models. i saw complaint after complaint by people who were ford owners.

I have been having issues with the driver's "door ajar" being on constantly. the door is clearly shut; however, there is a constant beeping warning that the door is open. due to this warning, the car will not allow for the doors to be locked when the car is in motion. this is a major concern having two young children. in addition to the safety issue mentioned above, the dome light is now delayed from turning off upon exiting the vehicle. took this into the dealership and they wanted $500 to fix. this past weekend, i am now receiving a warning that my liftgate is open as well. i had no success after attempting to close the liftgate multiple times. this lock mechanism seems to have a clear issue which ford is hesitant to address. i really hope they get this fixed asap or i will not be purchasing ford products again. *js

The mytouch feature panel occassionally locks up/freezes when trying to access any of the features. ambient lighting color changes randomly. lastly, the volume/road volume adjustment does not work and did prior to sync update. *tr

The " driver door ajar" warning light remains on constantly. being a senior citizen, i'm concerned about being car jacked when stopped because the door locks will not automatically activate when the warning light is on. also, the interior lights remain on for a period of time which can alert a car jacker. the ford dealer estimate to repair the latch sensor is $470. *tr

After closing the door then starting the vehicle the "door ajar" will not go off which notifies the driver to put the vehicle in park. i think this is a safety issue as the vehicle may not protect the driver and passengers in the event an accident occurs. i also noticed that when turning the vehicle off to get gas or etcetera, it keeps notifying you to put the vehicle in park. i think this is directly related to the door latch being faulty. ford wants $400 to repair this item which i think is a safety issue and should be recalled as many edge owners are experiencing the same faults. *tr

Door ajar light and sensor stay on intermittently, as does interior light. doors will not lock when this occurs while driving.

When door closed it displays message drivers door ajar. *tr

Bought this edge and in less than a month later the "door ajar" light starting coming on. almost a year later and still nothing has worked in fixing it. dealer wants $400 to fix something that should be recalled by ford. major safety hazard as you cannot lock the doors when you have this error. *tr

Drivers door latch faulty. causes "door ajar" and "shift to park" warning lights even though door completely shut. ignoring the warning light is dangerous. under warranty ford's procedure is still to only clean the contacts and not replace the unit. this fault occurred again after they cleaned. *tr

The driver's door sensors intermittently have a "door ajar" warning, though each door is completely shut. the sensor is inside the latch, and has a very high failure rate, based on cursory internet research. the warning can occur while driving,and/or applying brakes. it alerts the driver to put the car in park. the doors will not lock (while driving) when the "door ajar" sensor light it on. this is a safety issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the sensor on the door latch failed to detect that the door was closed in order to lock the doors. the contact mentioned that the front drivers side door needed to be opened and closed multiple times for the sensor to detect the doors. the failure occurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the latch assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000. updated 2/3/15*cn the consumer stated ford paid for the entire repair. updated 02/18/15*jb

The driver side door becomes ajar and you have to open and shut the door numerous times to have the alert go away. the dome lights stay on and at night this is a hazard. also, every time you start to accelerate the car beeps and tells you to put the car in park, which is a huge distraction. *tr

While driving, at various speeds, the drivers side door warning comes up on the dash and a bell will ring saying that the door is ajar. sometimes it says to put car in park. i open and close the door and it fixes the problem temporarily, only to happen again. happening more and more frequently. *js

Door ajar light comes on when door is obviously closed. it can take up to 10-15 slams to get the light to go off. annoying alert tone goes off until it's closed and dome light stays on. also, car will not lock if door does not register as closed. this problem has persisted for over a year, but oddly goes away during the winter months. just now, my windsheild wipers won't turn off. i don't know if these issues are related, but it all seems electrical in nature.

Door ajar light remaining after doors are closed. on dash message board says to put car in park. doors will not lock when put in gear automatically causing a safety issue. *js

This is the issue of door ajar light staying 'on' for the driver side front door. the door ajar light stays 'on' even though the door is properly shut. it was started as an intermittent issue but now the warning stays 'on' all the time and the instrument cluster shows the front driver side door stays open all the time. every time i stop, the warning for door ajar comes on. i am not sure if this is a safety issue or not but initially every time the warning sounds, i used to look at instrument panel for what the warning is about but now i have started to ignore it. i hope i don't ignore any other important warnings that are related to safety. *tr

Upon closing the drivers door, the cabin lights remained on and the 'door ajar' indicator lamp was illuminated on the dash. after repeated opening and closing of the door, the problem went away. this problem keeps happening once or twice a week. one time the problem occurred while driving at night, the cabin lights came on and startled me. this could have caused an accident due to sudden reduced visibility. i did some research and it is a common problem that ford knows about because they have a technical service bulletin on it, tsb# 14-0083. the repair consisted of removing the inner door panel and cleaning the actuator switch. the warranty on this car has expired, so the repair cost me $164.00. i think ford should have paid for this in full. why is this not on a recall? *js

After closing the door and starting the car, the driver door ajar warning light comes on. open the door and shut again, sometimes it goes of and sometimes it does not. it will say to shift to park but the door is not open. sometimes it will start to do it when you come to a stop light too. *tr

Driver side "door ajar" sensor malfunctioning - resulting in doors not locking automatically, warning alarm sounding, interior lights staying on. had repair made at local ford dealer. same problem/symptoms again in may, 2015. local dealer states that there is no recall from manufacturer thus freeing said dealer of liability. complaint filed with ford motor company. online searches yield numerous complaints of the same issue with the ford edge.
