Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2012 Ford Edge

Unable to lock doors from within cabin due to door ajar sensor. child easily opens door while driving. had a stranger open my door and got in passenger seat thinking it was his mothers car, than goodness he did not have a gun. lack of safety and security function.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the front driver side door ajar warning light illuminated when driving but the door was secured. as a result, the interior light remained illuminated and a chime sounded. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 28,000. the vin was not available.

One day while preparing to drive the kids to school, i entered the driver's side of my vehicle and shut the door. i started the engine via the push button ignition and the dash gave an audible alarm and light for my driver door being ajar. i opened my door and firmly closed it. the light remained showing my driver's side door as being ajar. since then this occurs every time i drive my vehicle. the proximity unlock feature of my vehicle does not work on this side now either, i assume due to it not registering the door as closed. this feature works on the passenger side where i do not have this door ajar issue. while driving the auto-lock feature does not work either due to it registering the driver's side door ajar. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning light continuously illuminated when the door was secured. the failure caused the interior and the head lights to illuminate causing the battery to drain. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire door lock mechanism needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The door ajar warning indicates the door is open when the door is actually closed tight. if you slam the door hard, the warning clears sometimes but may come back on without the door being opened. this is a poor alarm system design. ford should take responsibility for the design and issue a recall. the original latch was replaced under warranty at about 30k miles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the door ajar warning indicator chime multiple times. the contact mentioned that the lighting on the instrument panel malfunctioned. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician cleaned the sensor. however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 30,000. updated 03/10/15*lj updated 06/17/2015 *js

The door ajar does not shut off.no matter how i close the door.at all stop signs red lights it continues to tell me to shift to park because of "door ajar".the interior dome light will not shut off because of the "door ajar".i cant see out my rear view mirror because of the interior dome light.im afraid to drive the car i never know if im going to fall out while driving due to "door ajar".i brought it in to ford for repair later found out they just "cleaned the wiring".9 months later problem is back and even worse. something needs to be done about this.

The indicator light for the driver's side door being ajar will not go off. the door is most definitely not open, yet the indicator does not register the door as being closed no matter what we do. *tr

Doors will not register closed even if you slam the door will not close have to run car with alarms going off ford will replace at an larg cost

This has recurred 3 times in the last 3 weeks. the last time it happened, i was backing out of my driveway and the car started jerking, wouldn't accelerate and the wrench light came on. i turned the vehicle off, waited a couple of seconds, restarted it and it worked great. the time before i was going about 55 mph and the car did the same thing. i pulled over to the side of the road, turned it off and restarted and it worked great. i'm afraid to travel in the vehicle. the ford dealership said it's the electronic throttle body and will cost $400+/- to fix. *tr

I have been having intermittent issues with the sensor not reading that my driver side door is latched. today, it is constant and will not even allow me to lock the doors! i have tried several times to get it to "latch" and clearly the door is closed, but the "door ajar" warning is still illuminated. *tr

Alarm and dash icon warn driver to shift into park. i pull off the road and shift into park with no problem apparent in the shift or transmission. this alarm is recurrent mostly when moving on the roadway and occasionally when car is still. this problem according to the ford dealer is a defective switch in the shifter lever assembly. this is a $325 repair and too complex to complete myself. this issue is distracting to safe driving requiring finding the ok button or pulling off the roadway to shift the lever. *tr

Door ajar light goes on at instrument panel showing driver's door is ajar. actually the door is secure and closed. this happens at certain times and not all the time. *tr

The driver door light will not go out have to slam door multiple times. had to go get a replacement door part. *tr

An irritating and distracting danger signal and display icon shows "driver door ajar" when in fact there is no problem. early this month this occurred intermittently and is now consistent and repetitive every time i drive the automobile. ford dealer service says this requires a $200 repair. this repair is too complex for me to complete. to silence the alarm one must look away from the roadway on several occasions to find the ok button. *tr

Door ajar light remains on when door is completely closed. *tr

The driver door latch signals that the driver door is ajar when it is not. this prevents the door from locking and also affects the instrument panel display and interior lighting as well as the alarm system. *tr

The door ajar warning keeps on lighting up. we have to open and close the drivers door up to 20 times and sometimes the warning goes off and sometimes it does not. it is very annoying because if it doesn't turn off there is a beeping sound going on while you are driving asking you to pull aside and close the door again. it also affects while you are driving at night because the interior lights wont turn off and it makes it difficult to see where you are driving, specially if it's on reverse, or when you get out of the vehicle and put the alarm on, the interior lights keep on and am afraid it will affect my battery in the long run. we took it to service at the dealer but there is no recall yet and it costs around $418 to fix. i think it's a manufacture thing and ford should be responsible for this fix. *tr

The "door ajar" sensor is making a false reading that constantly says the driver side door is open when in fact it is not. due to the car "thinking" the door is open, you can not lock the doors while driving. a child falling out of an unlocked door or a car jacking because of this issue is a huge safety concern. a simple google search for this issue will show that this is a very common problem with many ford vehicles. to have the sensor repaired cost anywhere from $250 to $400 which is most likely why ford continues to let people drive these unsafe vehicles. *tr

Drivers door ajar alarm is sounding when door is fully closed. *tr

Driver side door ajar light remains on when door is properly closed. seems to be a common issue w/ford edge door latches. *tr

Drivers side "door ajar warning" comes on very often and won't go off. doesn't always come on immediately, but while on, won't allow doors to lock while driving. very dangerous situation. when it comes on, not always in a position to stop immediately and put in park to reset . must stop and repeat closing until it takes. again very dangerous. lastly, when exiting the auto if the sensor fails then the lights stay on an extended period, running the battery down. not allowing the doors to lock and alarm to set. *tr

Driver door ajar warning continually comes on at random times, or sometimes not at all. after awhile it was coming on all time and the dinging bell was driving me crazy. had it fixed at the dealer, at my expense of course. *tr

Problem: driver door ajar warning comes on even if door is shut. i drove it like this for about 4 weeks when both high beams and regular beam headlights burned out simultaneously at night. i had to drive with flashers until a gas station to call my wife and come get me. i took it in for repair and they said there might be a short due to door latch problem, so they suggested i replace battery and headlights for $400+. by the way, the dealer said he oiled the door latch and it was fixed. it was not fixed. the door ajar warning still comes on as i drive. what is bad is when i park in a public lot, the car will not shut off interior lights as the car thinks door is ajar. in addition, i can not lock the car with the fob so i need to lock each door separately and keep slamming doors until it goes off. at low speeds under 20mph the door ajar warning says put car in park. can you imagine the accident if someone was stupid enough to put a rolling car in park because of a faulty door latch sensor! all i ask is a recall or at least have the dealers acknowledge they have a problem and fix it. *tr

The door latch sensor switch is having intermittent issues and at times is showing an alarm "driver door ajar" that the door was not closed even though it was. please fix asap. many drivers with same make and model are having the same ongoing issue. recall needs to be set in place. *tr

Driver door ajar warning comes on and will not go off due to defective door latch switch. dealer repaired switch but did not replace it like i had wanted. problem is solved for now but i'm sure it will come back. this needs to be a recall. *tr

Driver side door ajar sensor failed. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning light remained illuminated and the door ajar chime would not disable. the contact also stated that the power locks failed to function properly. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the latch on the doors needed to replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

Drivers side door ajar warning light will not shut off, nor will the warning bell stop ringing. i was quoted a price in excess of $400.00 to replace a simple door latch assembly, by my ford dealer. i have researched this and this problem appears to have been going on for years! truly unacceptable , unless of course your name is bill ford. awful customer concern by them. *tr

Upon starting vehicle driver door ajar warning will not shut off. dome light continues to stay on. unable to lock doors while in operation.

The driver door latch signals that the driver door is ajar when it is not. this prevents the door from locking and also affects the instrument panel display and interior lighting as well as the alarm system. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the driver side door failed to properly close while the door ajar warning light was constantly illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

My drivers door latch ajar switch is broken and it will not let me lock the doors and the interior lights stay on and every time i stop the car this annoying alarm comes on telling me to put the car in park and my dealership will not pay for the switch to be replaced even though i paid for the extended warranty. *tr

The door ajar signal stays on when door is shut. interior light stays on. door cannot be locked when inside.

The door adjar sensor is bad. ford has recalled other vehicles for this and they are the same year but not the ford edge.

The driver door is fully closed and the dashboard light comes on stating the door is ajar. interior light will not turn off. the door will not lock and batt drains.

There is a problem with the door latch sensor. *tr

I am having the same issues as hundreds of others have had and posted on the nhtsa site. the door ajar issue followed by the shift to park issue. i am curious with this many issues with the door latch failure, why isn't this a recall???? very annoying to try to have something nice only for it to fail at 2 years old. battery also went dead around 47000 miles and crashed my gps. approximately $900 to fix the three issues. this does not include the 4th issue with the back hatch not closing the first time we hit the button - this has been off and on since day 1 and i'm told yesterday that it looks like it is out of alignment and would need to go to the collision center for estimate on repair. not likely. *tr

door ajar switch went bad on our edge, which is a good vehicle.had it replaced and just fine now. *tr

The 2012 ford edge door sensor has gone bad in my car. nothing happened or changed, but have read 100's of incidents online about this issue. it starts when opening and closing the door, and the door sensor light will not turn off. you open and close the door 1-2 times and it goes off. no big deal. over time, you have to open and close 5-10 times to get the car to acknowledge that the door is shut. not long after that, the sensor will come on while driving for no reason. ultimate, will not go off at all. sounds like it's not a big deal until you realize that the interior lights will not shut off when the door sensor is on, the doors will not lock, and the alarm will not set. with having children in the back, they can open the doors on the highway at any time. not to mention not being able to lock your car doors in general is unsafe. also, this affects the battery because the lights won't shut off. ford has yet to recall this issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the front driver side door ajar warning light continuously illuminated when the door was completely closed. the failure caused the internal dome lights to remain illuminated and caused the battery to drain. also, the contact noticed that the doors failed to stay locked while driving. the failure recurred multiple times. the dealer stated that the sensor inside the door might need to be replaced; however, the vehicle had not been taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The door ajar light for my drivers door will not go off. my doors do not lock because of this .a bell chimes when i stop my car also because of this. *tr

When i started the car, the driver door ajar alarm would not go off. i tried to open and shut the door, but the alarm stays on - which means that the lights inside the car stay on draining the battery. i took the car into a ford dealership in meridian, id and the cost for fixing this problem is $316.00. after looking at the internet for solutions, i discovered that this problem is very common. please consider a recall and make the ford corporation stand behind their vehicles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact started the vehicle and the door ajar warning indicator illuminated. a chime sounded even though all the doors were closed securely. in addition, the dome lights illuminated temporarily. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where a lubricant was applied to the door latches. the failure recurred one year later. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 15,000.

Door ajar sensor in driver door malfunctioning. shows door is still ajar after multiple door slams. *tr

Door ajar warning constantly on ever after opening and closing door several time. took it to dealer and repair made, but in june 2014 the issue began again (approx 21000 miles). returned to dealer second time and they replaced the part. now at 32000 miles the issue continues causing safety concerns with doors not locking when driving with this issue. when manually pushing down the door locks, the doors will immediately unlock automatically. every time i brake the interior lights turn on and the warning chime sounds. this is a major safety concern with my five year old in my car. now the warranty is expired and it will cost nearly $500 to fix since ford refuses to recall the defective door switches/latches.

*tr
