We have classified the 433 complaints from 2012 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
When i get into the car and shut the drivers side door, i get an error the door is ajar. clearly it is not but a relentless beeping is warning me of the trouble. the doom light will not go out and the doors will not lock. when i get out of the car the lights stay on for five minutes, indicating a door is still open. *tr
The sensor for the door on the drivers side is not working. the panel tells me that the door is open when it is not. i have to manually lock and unlock the door several times or close the door several times hard in order for the sensor to go off. i have noticed that this is a common problem with the edges. i do not have 5oo dollars to fix this problem. it is a safety issue as the door locks will not lock after car is in motion and this could be a possible safety issue while people are traveling in this vehicle. also with the remote, sometimes locking the car is an issue. could potentially drain the battery. thank you. *tr
October of 2014, i purchased a 2012 ford edge. only a few months of owning it the 'door ajar' warning would continue to show up, even though the door was clearly closed. this has still continued, its now november 2015. i went to a dealership at one point and they simply let me know how much it will be to fix, not once did they mention this is a recurring problem. ford needs to take notice of this issue and actually show they care for their customers. i have recently reviewed many others complaining of the same issue. this is a huge red flag that needs to be looked at. i do not feel safe driving my car anymore, with my child especially. the doors do not lock once the car is in drive, that scares me. also since the door does not appear to be closed according to the computer, the dome light stays on, making it hard to start driving at night. i have also bought a new battery and already it is drained due to the light staying on for about 20 minutes before turning off. when i purchase a vehicle i need to feel safe about my choice and at first i did, i love my car but no longer feel safe driving it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, the air condition system failed to blow cool air. in addition, the interiors lights would remain illuminated and cause the battery to drain. the contact stated that all the electrical functions failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the door sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 51,600.
About 90% of the time -- at all speeds of 0-75 -- the warning light shows the driver door is ajar, which causes the dome lights to stay on, and the door locks will not lock. this is extremely unsafe when driving in the city and stop at a red light -- anyone could open the door and get inside. when the dome lights are on, it is difficult to see at night, especially when backing the car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving at night, the door ajar warning indicator illuminated and the interior lighting remained lit. also, the contact stated that the doors were not able to be locked from the inside due to a faulty door latch. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
Driver side door alert does not recognize that door is closed. dome light is on while driving, and chimes go off. after every stop, chime and display says to shift to park. doors will not lock with fob. *tr
The door latch sensor switch was having intermittent issues and at times was showing an alarm that the door was not closed even though it was. when this happens, the door locks would de-energize and unlock even though the car was moving. this problem would also cause the exterior & interior lights to stay on when the key was turned off draining the battery. this is a safety issue and should be recalled by ford. *tr
Drive door ajar on panel, doors won't lock, interior light stays on initially, while driving it will say to shift to park due to the door ajar...when you accelerate, the doors do not lock like normal. after turning car off sometimes can't lock to vehicle and the interior light stays on for about 5 minutes. *tr

Driver side door ajar alarm comes on at random times while driving. *tr
The net effect is that the car's interior lights will not go off nor will the doors lock when the car is in motion making it difficult to see at night and impossible to secure the doors from being opened at any speed. history: in dec 2014 my ford edge drivers door "open" indicator would occasionally not turn off after the door had been securely closed. this happened about once a week and by closing the door with a bit more force would it then turn off. over the next three months the indicator light would work for a period of time and then fail again. starting in february 2015 the light became more difficult to get to go off until march when the indicator light never goes off. the effect of the door not registering as closed causes the interior lights to remain on, the doors not to lock and the occasional dinging that the door is open. although capable of being driven this makes the car unsafe as the doors are impossible to lock when the vehicle is in motion at any speed and the interior lights remain lit making it very difficult to see at night. *tr
Drivers side door latch is not working properly. vehicle does not recognize the door is closed and as a result will not lock the doors as normal and causes interior lights to stay on. door ajar warning constantly goes off. *tr
The front driver door latch is not working properly. it fails to close. *tr
Driver door latch is not working correctly. vehicle continues to tell me the door is ajar when it is closed. had been able to get it to go away before, but now it won't go away. this is causing my dome light to stay on for 20 minutes at a time and the only way i can lock it is to manually press the lock button while the door is open. *tr
Door ajar signal stays on when door is closed, interior lights stay on, inability to lock doors when in vehicle. *tr
The driver door ajar alert will not go off with the door closed. you can slam the door and it does not sense that the door is closed. the interior light remains on. when searching the internet this appears to be a common problem and ford should recall the part and replace for free! *tr
Dome light stays on = creates night driving hazard. dome light on creates safety hazard when parked in public area at night. false door ajar signal prevents the driver from recognizing a real door ajar situation = safety issue the doors will not lock-= safety issue. issue = door ajar signal stays on when door is closed , interior light stays on ,inability to lock the door while in the vehicle , and faulty door latch. this is a safety issue that needs a recall. *tr
My 2012 ford edge has been experiencing some electrical issues. one of them being the "door ajar" warning light. this warning light will keep my inside lights on if i am not able to clear the warning. i usually need to slam the door a couple of times and if that doesn't work then i need to restart the car and close the door and then turn the car off and usually this will clear it. i hear this is happening to quite a few ford vehicles and think this should be looked into for a recall. if you don't realize that your cars inside lights stay on then it could drain your battery and leave you stranded. *tr
Door ajar light came on and does not go off. door is fully closed. this causes the overhead lights to stay on for some time making it hard to see when driving at night. this also causes the warning bells to go off intermittently while driving. a light will go on telling you to shift into park while driving down the road. very distractive. door locks do not function properly which can be dangerous in itself. dealer tells me this is a faulty door ajar sensor. they want $500 to make my car safe to drive. searching the web shows that this is an ongoing problem with ford products that they are quite aware of. i feel ford should be responsible for safety related issues on their products and that a recall should be issued to make these cars safe. thank you *tr
Driving on highway at approximately 60mph and message appears on dash cluster telling me that my driver door ajar and dome light comes on. called dealership and no recall issued but cost of repair is a ridiculous $300-$500! apparently there are a lot of similar complaints like this all over the place and the dealership even said that its very common issue with the edge. i feel that this is unsafe while i'm driving with my family because of the distraction of the "dinging" sound as well as the dome light while night driving! this needs to be a recall in my opinion being that this is a safety issue obviously. *tr
Driver's door ajar indicator is on all the time even though door is closed completely. then the doors will not lock from inside the vehicle and the interior lights stay on (this is a safety hazard at night as the drivers vision is impaired by the interior lights). also related to this problem: the "shift to park" audible and visual indicator operates at random while driving which is a significant distraction to the driver.
Drivers side door ajar alarm will not clear. door is fully shut, but door ajar alarm is always on, interior light is on and doors will not lock. *tr
The door ajar light continually comes on in my 2012 ford edge. we have shut the door repeatedly several times and it will not shut. it is unsafe because the interior light stay on.
Started seeing the warning info., that the driver door was 'ajar,' even though it was closed. this was intermitent, now happens all the time. reported this to the dealer, but of course, we are outside the 36k warranty. dealer wants to charge $450 to replace and appears this is an issue with a lot of their vehicles, so perhaps this should be a recall or they should extend the coverage and repair at n/c. *tr
The battery was going dead when vehicle left off and parked overnight. the gear shift is not communicating that the vehicle is in park and the displays would come on and drain the battery overnight. the error was mis-diagnosed and a new battery was purchased. the issues continued and the dealership states it is the gear shifter wiring. this should be a recall item, there is nothing to be done in normal daily use that could have prevented this. *tr
Door sensor is not working properly. "door ajar" notice continues to stay on, even though the doors are all closed. it appears this issue is not under warranty and will cost several hundred dollars to repair at the dealership. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while the vehicle was parked, the door warning light illuminated when the door was closed securely. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000. the vin was not available.
Summary: driving and message appears on dash cluster telling me that my driver door ajar and dome light comes on and doors won't lock! called dealership and no recall issued but cost of repair is a ridiculous $300-$500! apparently there are a lot of similar complaints like this all over the place and the dealership even said that its very common issue with the edge. i feel that this is unsafe while i'm driving with my family because of the distraction of the "dinging" sound as well as the dome light while night driving! this needs to be a recall in my opinion being that this is a safety issue obviously. *tr
Driver side front door, door ajar light says on. have to slam the door several times to get it to turn off and some times that does not even work. this seems to be a common problem with these vehicles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated the driver side door ajar warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 26,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while in park, the doors failed to lock electronically from inside the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,000.
The driver side door ajar sensor is malfunctioning. even though door appears closed, the sensor indicates it is not closed. this results in the dome lights being on, even when driving at night, making it difficult to see the road. it also regularly tells me to put the car into park, even when driving 65 mph down the road. *tr
Instrument panel continuously reports driver's door is ajar when it is closed. this prevents the doors from locking (can't prevent children from opening doors while vehicle is in motion). also, this causes the instrument panel to continuously ask the driver to shift to park when coming to a stop. also, this causes the interior lighting to fail to dim until the car is in forward motion. *tr
Door ajar indicator does not go off after passenger door is closed. car is less than 3 years old but out of warranty due to mileage. therefore, dealer charged $430 to fix. thanks and goodbye ford! *tr
Door latch on driver side doesn't work properly. door ajar light is on even when door is closed, so lights in the car stay on and doors can't be locked. beeping signal is always on as is safety shift to park warning. very unsafe and distracting. i have to mention that this was"fixed" under warranty but came back shortly after again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the four interior doors failed to lock. in addition, the front driver side door warning indicator illuminated even when the doors were closed securely. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who sprayed a lubricant to the front driver side door but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
Driver door ajar warning comes up even though the door is closed. i had this "fixed" at team ford in las vegas earlier this year, and it is coming on again. *js
Door ajar sensors/light doesn't indicate when doors are closed, and will come on for no reason when vehicle is driving. this causes the interior lights to illuminate and doors unlock/unable to lock. very dangerous at night or when i drive with children in the car. *tr
Door ajar sensor was bad on the drivers door. the door ajar light would stay on constantly. *tr
Drivers door ajar alert will not turn off. computer says to put car in park and shut door. this does not resolve the door ajar error. *tr a second problem is now occurring; the back up camera message is asking if you want it on. i have always had mine on, so why is it continually asking. a third peculiar behavior i'm noticing is that when you put the car in park, and shut the engine off, if you had the radio on, it normally stays on until you open the door, now, the radio shuts off immediately as do the dashboard instruments.
The drivers side door ajar light/warning appears even though the door is fully closed. this prevents all doors from locking. there are times when the warning is not on but after a passenger closes the passenger side door the drivers side door ajar warning turns ons. i have had this issue serviced once by ford but it is not happening again. ford issues a service bulletin but that appears to be only a stop gap measure since the problem recurs. *tr
The warning signal "shift to park" and "drivers door ajar" is constantly on. it was intermittent for the past two months, but now it is constantly on, no matter how hard i slam the door. so i have to drive with the warning signals and bells. the doors do not lock when i'm driving. i cannot lock my car when i leave it, as the lights inside will not go off. i think ford needs to issue a recall on this. *tr
A message warning "shift to park" appears on the car dashboard when the car has already been put into park position. this warning message disallows the driver to turn the car off - shut of the engine. the car is already in park and message light continues to be on display on dashboard. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while the vehicle was parked, the front driver side door warning light illuminated, indicating the door was open when it was securely closed. the failure recurred constantly. the dealer diagnosed that the door latch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was serviced, but the remedy failed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 33,000.
Have had the same issues with both the driver door and rear passenger (drivers side) latch or sensor improperly working. both door latches and or sensors malfunctions make the door ajar light in the instrument panel stay lit, and makes the overhead lights stay on. the interior light staying on makes it difficult to drive at night and also drains the battery.
Throttle body failure. *tr
My drive side door does not sense it is closed and the light stays on and the dome lights stay on longer. periodically because the switch is saying the door is open, the dome light, headlights and rear lights will go on when nobody is in the car. *tr
While driving at 45mph, vehicle lost power to the extent that i had to pull over on the shoulder. a mechanic wrench light appeared on the dash. vehicle remained running but idle was very erratic. after ignition was turned off, i used a code reader and dtc "p2111" appeared on the reader (throttle body failure). after clearing the code, i restarted the vehicle and engine idle appeared normal. drove vehicle for 20 miles with no other abnormalities. during a brief review of ford recalls, tsb's, etc. i am finding that there are known issues with the throttle body on other models but for some reason not the edge. *tr
Door ajar light for driver's door keeps going on and we are unable to lock the doors (and the door is latched). it is a distraction to have the warning light go on indicating you should put the vehicle in park. when minor children are passengers this is a safety concern because the doors cannot be locked. there should be a recall on this since a large volume of complaints on this issue are being filed. *tr
