We have classified the 433 complaints from 2012 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Door sensor malfunctioning. door alarm and lights continue to stay on after door is closed.
My 2012 ford edge, drivers door adjar switch ,keeps indicating the door is open, when the door is closed, because of other accessories attached to this switch ,it makes it difficult ,to drive at night, the buzzer nose ,make you turn the radio up so you want have to listen to the noise, and the dome lights stays on while you are driving, and the instrument info keeps going back to the issue, also so it tells you to put car in park door adjar, after researching this everyone tells me to break the switch, because if you fix it , it will keep coming back, because the mechanism that works the switch is poorly mad, when the plastic wears, it will not open fully to complete the circuit.
My ford edge,2012, had a "door ajar" warning and it required slamming the door very hard to get the warning removed. my lights would stay on after i parked and again require slamming the door multiple times. my back up camera will work and then not work making that safety feature unreliable! i had the door latch replaced at a cost of 325 dollars. other ford products have also experienced these problems and are under a recall. i believe this issue is not the result of careless treatment by my wife or me. we are both over 70 years old.
The door ajar message shows on the dash when door is closed. after many attempts the sensor does not read the door being closed. this seems to be a very big issue that requires a recall due to safety since it is part of the electrical system.

Door ajar warning, dome light stays on, door does not lock with key pad, door does not stay locked from the inside. when closing the door, the "door ajar" warning lights up on the instrument panel, a warning chimes, the dome light stays on, and the doors cannot be locked from the inside (or when existing the car, the keypad becomes inoperative). no amount of slamming, closing gently or multiple closing of door rectifies the condition. have taken car to dealership, they weren't aware of any problem, said there was dirt build up, so they diagnosed the problem, cleaned something and charged $120 to tell me to keep the lock mechanism clean. that lasted for about a month. still having problem with the "door ajar" warning light

Door ajar signal stay on when door is closed. interior light stays on. inability to lock doors while in vehicle. faulty latch. continuous door ajar chime sound on.
Safety issue regarding door latch and door ajar sensor. sensor has failed and continues to think the door is ajar which causes the doors not able to lock, and the interior light stays on and causes windshield glare when driving at night. this is a safety hazard as you cannot lock the doors for protection and you can't see properly to drive at night.
When driver's door is closed, the "door ajar" light is still on the display. you can slam the door hard several times before it will go off. many times, it reappears after you begin driving. this causes a safety hazard to my family because my wife is not able to lock the doors when inside the car. (the "door ajar" will not allow it to be locked). *tr

Driver door shows not closed, lights are on, display shows door ajar and the bell is ringing.very difficult to drive night time with the interior lights on shinning in your face. also the display is shows request to acknowledge and to validate information regarding the door being open. the symptom is increasing every day going to 90%+ now when get in the car we start being afraid to use the car now
Driver's side door ajar light is illuminated and will not go off even though door is closed . light is distracting when driving. door open warning relay part # misw6169 is bad and needs replacing. *tr
Driver door ajar light comes on. door has to be opened and closed in the park position several times before the alert goes away. constantly check the door and it is indeed closed but alert is still there. *tr
The driver's side "door ajar" light stays on even after door has shut and been slammed. the interior light stays on while slowly moving, eventually the inside light turns off but when you stop, the car starts dinging and reads "put vehicle in park" i believe this is a safety issue because when leaving a driveway or parking lot at night, you cannot see anything around you outside because of the interior light remaining on until you reach a speed of around 10-15 mph. i'm worried that i may strike an object or person because of visibility issues.
The door ajar warning stays on. unable to lock door while driving. vehicle constantly says to shift into park and the close the door. a huge problem while driving, distraction and may cause crashes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning light continuously illuminated. the contact stated that the door had to be continuously shut in order for the light and the chime to deactivate. the contact mentioned that he had to exit through another door on some occasions due to the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 51,500.
My driver side door does not register as closed. the cabin lights stay on and the doors don't always lock because the car thinks the door is ajar when it is not. when driving the car i get an alarm in the dashboard that continually states the driver side door is ajar.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that while in park, the door ajar warning light illuminated. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the door latch and the switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 33,000. the vin was unavailable. the consumer stated the warning and tone on while vehicle in motion after stop. updated 05/10/16*lj *tr
The driver door latch is defective thus failing to notify the sensor that the door is actually closed. the door, although closed, registers open. the door ajar warning sounds on the dash board, dome lights stay on and doors do not lock. i am concerned that the defective latch may affect airbag deployment because the doors intermittently fail to lock. i began searching ford forums only to find that this is an issue for many ford owners. i contacted ford motor corporation only to be informed that they knew nothing of this issue. it would be appropriate for ford to acknowledge this issue, repair the faulty part at their expense, and continue to follow industry standards best practices.
2012 ford edge drivers door ajar light stays on at 35,000 miles ..should be a recall on this. i see a lot of complaints on it..
Door ajar warning keeps coming on, sometimes when your first get in the car it will not shut off, dome light is on, will also come on while driving eventhough there was no sensor light on when first driving, shut door several times, soft or hard and will not go off, very annoying since the sound goes off that indicates door is ajar, cannot lock doors when this happens while driving, at night the dome light being distracts from driving and harder to see the road, took to dealership they could not find problem since it was intermittent, now it happens more than not. please recall
Driving down the road when my sensor indicted that the driver's door was ajar. i pulled over to the side of the road and slammed the door multiple times. the sensor still told me the door was ajar. this will not go off. it has been two weeks now. the dome light will also stay on draining my battery. ford needs to recall the sensors. when i look on line there are multiple other driver's door sensor issues with this vehicle. the chime warning is constant. please recall these so i can feel safe in my vehicle! *tr
Door ajar signal will intermittently activate even though drivers door is closed. this also means that dome lights will not go off and that the doors will not lock. this is apparently a very common issue with the ford edge and it needs to be escalated to a recall for fix. *tr
After closing the driver's door, i get a door ajar message in the dashboard screen. when parked, interior dome lights remain on and doors will not lock since the vehicle thinks the door is still open. while driving, doors do not lock and notifications repeat after each stop as i release the brake to start accelerating. repeated door closings may cause the computer to realize that the door is closed and the message may go away, but that solution works less and less often. my edge is now 5 months out of warranty, but first occurrence was 2 months out of warranty. ford hq tells me there is no recall on this issue and my dealership wants to charge me $400 to replace the door switch or $500+ if i want a diagnostic to determine if that solution will work, or if there is a larger problem. online research reveals this problem is rampant across many ford models and years. they know it's a flaw and refuse to make it right.
The door ajar signal constantly stays on after i've already made sure the door was shut. this has happened multiple times in the last two weeks. my interior lights do not shut off until i've slammed the door about 5-6 times. it's really hard to tell if they've shut off in the daytime and so i'm fearful i may come out to my battery being dead. it also scares me to see it come on while i'm driving with my daughter as i'm unsure whether the door is properly latched. this needs to be a recall so that all drivers experiencing this issue can get this fixed immediately. *tr
Driver door sensor faulty causing interior lights to stay on, continuous alerts that driver door is ajar with alarm to come on telling you to put car in park and shut door causing a hazard. interior lights are on during night time driving.
The sensor for the door ajar on the driver side is bad and i cannot lock my driver door due to the alarm sound from my display panel. the door automatically unlocks putting my safety at risk in parking lots, dangerous areas, and when i am driving. the ford dealer tells me this has happened to hundreds of these vehicles and is an obvious manufacturer issue but there is no recall as of yet. this is a major safety hazard due to the inability to lock the door when the vehicle is in motion or lock the door when you enter the vehicle for personal safety. *tr
Drivers door ajar light illuminated when door is closed....not allowing the door to lock while in motion. *tr
Ford edge sport 2012. driver side door lock actuator fails and/or gives false readings. driver side console displays door open indicator. i have to repeatedly open and close to the door to clear the indicator light. it usually happens right when i enter the vehicle but has happened while driving. i pulled over and opened/closed the door to clear the message. *tr
The door ajar switch stays on when the drivers door is closed and latched. this is a known problem and easily searchable on many vehicle forums and youtube. *tr
A fault in the door latch on the drivers side is malfunctioning and sends a signal that the door is open when it is not. besides being annoying, i fear the fact that the doors do not lock while the vehicle is in motion. they could be locked manually, but i have two small children that can not lock them on their own. i fear that if we were in an accident, they could be thrown from the car due to not having the doors locked. at this point i do not even want to drive my children anywhere in this vehicle. it is a safety issue! *tr
Drivers side door says is ajar when it is closed. this is when parked or in drive. indicator will not go off no matter how many times i shut the door.
Door always indicate open. because of this issue the car can't be lock. also the light inside is always on can't be turn off and this is a driving hazar. *tr
Driver's side door ajar sensor always reads the door as open. this causes the car to chime every time you accelerate from a complete stop, the interior lights stay illuminated, and prevents the doors from automatically locking when the vehicle is in motion. the chime is a distraction and also causes the driver to ignore the alarm which means you could not notice some other, more serious malfunction in a timely manner. the interior lights make parking at night very dangerous as it's hard to see outside of the vehicle. and the doors not locking automatically is obviously dangerous. on top of all this, you cannot unlock the door from the outside if the proximity key is inside the vehicle when it thinks the door is open. if someone is used to being able to do this, it's very easy to lock yourself out of your car. it happened to me yesterday. glad i didn't have a baby stuck in there. instead i just had to pay $60 for a locksmith. attempting to clean the area where the sensor is located does not fix the issue. and the process to replace the sensor is either very expensive or far beyond most people's ability (it requires complete disassembly of the door). this means a lot of people won't bother to repair it and there will be a lot of ford vehicles on the road with this problem. watch out for them in a parking lot. *tr
The driver side door ajar warning sensor stays on. this caused interior and exterior lights to remain on. took hours to "fool" the system to get warning sensor to deactivate, consequently all lights went out. ford dealership service department swore they never heard of this yet owner complaints are all over the internet. *tr
Door sensor ajar malfunctioning. dome light in car staying on causing night driving hazard. doors not locking while driving due to sensor malfunction. sensor incorporated in door latch. door latch has to be replaced to rectify. *tr
Says door is ajar when its not. dome light will not turn off, wont lock, and beeps constantly when not in park until i try to close the door, that is already closed. have to open and close, open and close, open and close until it turns off. has happened numerous times. this is not just an annoyance issue. *tr
Faulty driver door sensor. always shows door ajar which then drains the battery. ford replaced it when under warranty only to have it go bad again out of warranty. ford is well aware of this problem and will not recall a defective design. charging customers $500 and up to fix the problem with no guarantee it won't just happen again.
The door ajar sensor is malfunctioning. the car does not recognize when the door is closed. this causes the battery to be completely drained.
Driver door open sensor went off causing interior lights to come on and alarm start going off. this was at 8:30 pm on a rural road. i lost my night vision and swerved off the side of the road causing my 11 year old to strike her head on the side window of the vehicle and damage to the front spoiler. this sensor has been replaced under warranty and tsb was issued by ford 6 months ago. the police officer that came said his brother has a ford f-150 that the same thing happened to him and he totaled his truck at night. after doing an internet search for ford driver door open while driving and found numerous websites dedicated to the problem and immense number of accidents. how long can ford get away with this safety issue before someone dies if they haven't already? *tr
Driver's side door sensor not working properly. drivers side door ajar warning stays on even when door is clearly closed. because of this, the inside dome light stays on. when first entering vehicle in the mornings, interior light does not come on. *js
The door ajar sensor on the driver side door fails to function properly making the vehicle react as though the door is open even though it is actually closed. this prevents the doors from locking and prevents the dome light from turning off. the door ajar alarm and light will not stop alerting the driver to the problem. because the doors will not lock, there is a danger to driver and passengers while moving. when dome light fails to turn off, the car battery can run down preventing the car from starting. *tr
Door ajar light stays on so the doors cant lock the dome light stays on and ford will not recall this unsafe problem there seems to be an existing problem with this model that the driver's door will not close properly and won't lock just went it gets out of warranty. the dome light stays on and the dashboard alerts keep going off. called ford and they won't fix the problem. this is unsafe to drive and this model should be recalled. 600.00 for repair
Door latch does not register the door as being closed. this results in the door ajar indicator being lit when the door is locked. this impairs the ability to drive at night as the interior lights will not turn off. *tr
Door ajar sensor remains on even when door is shut. doors do not lock when sensor is on. interior lights stay on. battery dies because lights do not turn off. all my doors are unlocked so it is very unsafe, someone could enter my vehicle while it is stopped.this happens everyday and cleaning the latch does not help.
Door sensor failure causing dash warning light to say" door ajar". this causes interior lights to stay on even after door has been closed and you leave your car. *tr
After closing the front drivers door, the dash light indicates that the door is not closed and latched. i push on the door and the latch has caught. while driving, the system still sees the door as unlatched. i have played with the latching mechanism and i can get the sensor to see the door closed in about 1 out of 50 attempts. most of the time i drive around with the system seeing the door as open. i have not gotten it changed because i fear the replacement will fail too. *tr
A few months ago, the driver side door ajar light began staying on when the door was closed properly. this causes the lights to stay on inside the car along with the annoying beeping sound. what really concerns me is that i have my daughter in the vehicle with me and being that the doors won't lock as the light is now on continuously, she would be able to open the door at any time. just wait until there is a major injury from this before being recalled, isn't that how it usually works? *tr
