We have classified the 433 complaints from 2012 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Display panel: door ajar indicator. open and close the driver side door on several accounts and indicator light would not go out on the display panel. this indicator remains whether stationary or in motion.
Door latch switch malfunction causing door ajar warning when door is closed and vehicle is in motion. door locks will not lock and child safety rear locks do not engage (child can open door when in motion). child has not fallen out the door yet. am getting it repaired at my expense because it is a safety issue.
Driver's side door indicates open/ajar when closed. this leads to multiple problems -- doors won't lock, interior lights stay on, etc.
Driver door ajar warning message illuminates with door securely closed.
Door adjar light will not go off.
Door jar light remains on (drivers side rear door). drains battery, causes interior light to turn on while driving. it's a known problem with the switches in the 2011-13 ford edge and ford is doing nothing to fix the problem.
My 'driver door ajar' warning shows up when the door is closed and secured. it doesn't happen all of the time, but, often enough. something is wrong with the switch.
Door ajar on my driver door has been continuously on even though the door is closed. this occurs in all situations (driving on a highway and streets, turning, and stationary). this has been ongoing since may 22. the door ajar sound continuously going off has caused issues when i turn my signal light on at a stop sign. the door ajar alarm overrides the sound of the turn blinker. this has caused me at times to look at my dashboard to verify that my turn signal is actually on. this is a dangerous defect that can cause an accident. this defect only leaves me two dangerous options. 1. i can check my blinkers every time that my door ajar sound overrides the blinker sound but this distracts me from the road. 2. i assume that my blinker is always on but this might result in a situation where the blinker is in fact not on. this can cause an accident because other drivers might not know that i am turning.
Repeated problem with this vehicle. first door ajar light has been repaired because it would not shut off the interior lights (not legal to drive with them on) and therefore drained battery. safety hazard. ecoboast failed and we were told by the dealer that it was a safety hazard and that we could not drive the car....big expense! now a second door ajar light won't go off....doors do not lock while the vehicle is moving. somebody needs to step up on these issues and do what's right. i cannot believe that specific vehicles were recalled for these issues when many others are experiencing, and paying for the exact same problem on the same year vehicle. something smells about this. majorly disappointed in ford and nhtsa. please note that the listed complaints are not the only ones we've had over the past year.
The driver door and rear driver door "door ajar" notification's do not turn off, even when the doors are closed. this causes the dome lights to stay on which drains the battery, and then the vehicle will not start later. this also prevents the doors from locking while driving. this is an ongoing issue and can not seem to be resolved, even after a mechanic cleaned and lubricated the door latches.
Battery drains due to some lights staying on as well as driver door ajar light staying on, although all doors are shut. these issues happend thus far when trying to park the vehicle and when entering to drive. the light will stay on during driving.
Door sensor indicates that door is ajar when the door is securely closed. in my case specifically the drivers side rear door. problem was intermittent at first. now indicator light is always on. the inside lights stay illuminated (as if a door was open) and go out a minute after driving. the alarm will not set up as the vehicle thinks a door is ajar.
Door ajar light comes on and it is draining my battery.the ddor latch is defective
After entering my vehicle and the door will be completely closed the door ajar sensor will come on and interior lights. also, as i was riding down the road, out of no where the door ajar sensor comes on and interior lights come on and all the doors unlocked by themselves...soon as i locked them back, they unclocked again on their own.
Door ajar warning light is always on when starting or driving the vehicle.
2012 ford edge locks unlock when driving sometimes.
The driver side door sensor does not register the door as closed when it is. the dash warning light comes on and stays on and the interior lights do not shut off. the driver side door has to be closed up to 30 times before the sensor registers the door as closed. the dash warning remains lit and "shift to park" comes on when coming to a stop at a light.
Door showing ajar intermittently. dome lights comes on at random with door ajar light making it difficult to see at night. can not lock doors while ajar light is on creating a security risk. unable to secure valuables inside as a result. also causes dead battery resulting in stranded motorist. cost of repair is over $400 through dealer
Door ajar indicator stays on when door is fully closed keeping interior lights on when driving causing vision problems at night. also will not allow doors to be locked when car is in motion.car has only 12000 miles and is in like new condition and has not been exposed to harsh weather conditions.does not occur every time but is becoming frequent.
Driver-side door ajar switch failure leaves doors unlocked during travel. with the drivers side door-ajar sensor in a failed state, the vehicle's programming is automatically unlocking all doors causing a passenger safety risk. locking via interior button is overridden and the doors remain unlocked while the vehicle is in motion.
Forward collision avoidence sensor blocked warning message on dash illuminated following rain rendering collision avoidance system innoperative. it comes on after a couple of miles driving
The door ajar is on permanently when the door isn't ajar. lights on and off at random times. seems to be a common problem via other people with this model
The "door ajar" light will not shut off even when the door is closed and this leaves the interior lights on which is a nighttime driving hazard. the dealer says the latch is defective and ford will not assist in the repair. this happens when the car is moving and stationary. due to the high cost (over $550.00) people are going to ignore the repair and then drive impaired. so how many accidents are required before ford is forced to deal with this issue? *tr
For the 2nd time in 2 years my door ajar light comes on when the car is started and in motion which leaves the overhead lights on and the doors unlocked while driving. the overhead light on at night and the doors unlocked while driving is dangerous and i should not have to pay for an issue that is safety related for a second time in 2 years. *tr
While driving the car shuts off and a wrench pops up on the dash. lat time it happen my wife was driving in an intersection . than 2 more times in a 4 mile drive . we had this issue before and had the throttle body replaced about 8 months ago and that worked till now. my wife is to scared to drive the vehicle and i cant say i blame her . *tr
A warning light is displayed stating the passenger door is ajar when it is not. the door can be repeatedly opened and closed attempting to make the warning light go off, it does not work the majority of the time. the interior lights will not go off, which makes driving a hazard. also, the door will not look when the warning light is on. another safety concern. *tr
The driver side door ajar switch is not working which causes the interior lights to remain on while driving or leave lights on to drain the battery when parked.
Door ajar sensor failed and says doors are open when they are latched. you are not able to lock the doors when driving with this alarm. *tr
Driver side door ajar light comes on. can be driving down the road and interior light come on due to door ajar issue. door will not lock while car is moving due to issue making this a safety issue. *tr
When you close the front driver's side door, the door ajar light remains on. all the interior lights still lit. they eventually go off once you start driving but when you stop it dings, telling you to put the vehicle in park due to the door being ajar. you can not lock any of the doors at all, which is a safety hazard. due to this issue it can drain your battery if you don't shut the door over and over again until it registers the door is closed.
About a year ago, the driver door ajar light came on and will not go out. this has caused the battery to drain multiple times due to interior lights staying on all the time. every time the vehicle comes to a stop, the "shift to park" warning comes on along with the door chime. ford claims it was not under warranty and quoted ~$400 to replace (~$250 if it could be "repaired"). a few weeks ago, the rear passenger side ajar light came on and will not go out. due to this, we can no longer lock the rear door while driving. this is the location of our child's seat! also, we no longer can tell if the doors are properly closed or not. *tr
The door ajar light stays on, even when the door is closed. this causes the interior lights to stay on, and prevents the doors from being locked. this is a safety hazard because the driver can't see out the windows at night. it started intermittently, and at first seemed to randomly appear and disappear. after about one month, it now stays on all the time.
Driver door sensor keeps telling me the door is ajar when it is not. it will do this while you are cruising down the freeway causing you to freak out thinking one of the kids has opening a door in the back seat! this will be the 2nd time i've had to take this in to be fixed since owning the car, which is coming up on one year.
The driver door ajar warning light will often remain on even when the door is clearly closed. the light will also randomly come on while driving and the interior lights will illuminate, making night driving especially dangerous. *tr
The driver door ajar indication even when the door is closed. the warning keeps alerting the driver. it says shift to park and close the door. but the door is closed. this is a safety issue. this occurs when at a stop or just before leaving a stop light.
Driver's door ajar notification on dash panel when door is closed. dome lights stay on leading to drained battery and locks will not engage due to vehicle not recognizing door is closed. door locks do not engage when driving or exiting the car, even when door is tightly closed. locks do not engage and dome lights remain on when stationary as well as in motion and vehicle notifies to shift to park and claims drivers door is ajar. no recalls and very pricey to have local dealership inspect, diagnose, and replace entire door latch mechanism. i have only owned my car for a year. 47,349.8 miles. have done extensive online research and found many other owners having the same issue. *tr
Door ajar stays on when door is fully closed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle started to decelerate. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal numerous times, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the contact coasted into a parking lot, waited for a while, and resumed driving. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 102,894.
Driver side door ajar issue. 2 years ago i had the issue, took it to the dealership to have the latch replaced because the car thought the driver side door was ajar. they replaced the latch and now i am having the same issue with the replacement latch on the driver side door. this doesn't allow the doors to be locked since the car thinks the doors are open. also, interior lights come on. this can be a safety hazard and appears to be a re-occurring problem.
See attached document post to ford. our problems have been ongoing for a few months....one repair after another. i have noted the date of the "unable to turn off lights"issue but have documentation for all repairs this year.
Door ajar. keeps saying left rear door is open when it is not.
Issue - 'shift to park' warning indicator is shown when the vehicle is parked and the shifter is in the 'p' position. doors cannot be locked and internal/external lights remain on while in this 'shift to park' position draining the battery. while foot brake pedal is engaged, shifting away from 'p' and back to 'p' sometimes registers the vehicle as in the correct park position. repeat until warning message is gone. the vehicle is stationary on a flat surface but i am not sure if the vehicle is really parked since it's warning i'm not but the shifter is in the 'p' position. i dare not try this on a hill--and always the brake pedal engaged while i'm fiddling with the hand shifter. when did this happen? at least 4 times a week for a year. *tr
2012 ford edge, "drivers door ajar" message on constantly. doors cannot be locked when vehicle started!! interior lights remain lit and battery drains! message says to "put car in park and close drivers door". door closes without issue but drivers door ajar message does not go away. suspect switch is bad in door. this can be a very dangerous situation if doors cannot be locked after starting vehicle!! could lead to carjacking theft or my wife and children being stranded if battery dies. this needs to be addressed immediately!!
Door ajar light remains on, even though the door is properly closed. doors will not lock while the door ajar light is active. interior lights will not go off while the door ajar light is active.
Upon starting the vehicle the "driver door ajar" light stays on, closing the door numerous times and light will not go out and the "shift into park" light comes on when letting off the brake like when i put it in reverse, or at every stop this is annoying. especially in traffic the chime goes off (driver door ajar or shift into park)and your trying to keep from causing an accident checking out the lights to see why the chime is going off. this is frustrating.
Door ajar - my 2012 ford edge sel will have this problem on a daily basis intermittently throughout the day. door will be closed & dash will light with door ajar warning. at times the warning will go away & auto lock will lock after i start driving. other times i can make a long drive & open & reclose the door numerous times without the warning going away. because the door just randomly thinks it's unlocked during the day and night time this in turn makes my sync system interior lights & sometimes headlights and taillights cycle on and stay on for different intervals as witnessed by my many neighbors, husband & myself. this has had a drain on my battery & we have had to replace it & jump it before. also, we are expecting our first child & are very concerned about this issue because we cannot make the car think that the door should be locked. we live in texas where it's quite hot & can be cold for infant in the winter i need to be able to have a remote starter to pre-heat & pre-cool my vehicle for the baby. i cannot leave vehicle unlocked when running because i have a neighbor with dementia who will get in the vehicle & try to drive away so for me this is a huge safety concern. this also gives ford a bad reputation just by everyone in my subdivision seeing this car and it's erratic cycling of lights interior and exterior. if someone is trying to mug me or rape me i cannot even locked myself in my vehicle because it will lock the door and they will automatically unlock when the vehicle is running because my door "is ajar". i have read many postings all over the internet & youtube with people having the same problem with many fords especially a 2012 ford edge. this is our fifth ford vehicle for my husband & myself. my dad worked for ford for a number of years & was a manager at a ford, but safety issues for my family like this making me not want another.
Door ajar sensor began appearing on dashboard sporadically for 1 month. all doors were closed per normal, door locks were negative function while sensor active and vehicle was either parked or moving. after 1 month, sensor was on permanently. door latch/s rr'd at ford dealership where this used cpo edge was purchased 13 months prior. cost of repair: $540. service manager has advised me that in the event of a recall for this issue, i will be reimbursed the entire amount by ford. yeah...right!
My ford edge has all the problematic symptoms displayed by the shifter warning "shift into park" after the car is already in park. this is a well known situation and ford says it's not a safety issue. my car has now progressed to displaying this same message nearly every time we slow down to stop at an intersection then displays the message again as we accelerate to move through the intersection. with this increasing alarm/warning display the car has also quit moving into the preset seat and mirror adjustment settings, decreasing drivers field of vision without constant adjustments. the consistent alarms sounding of "shift into park" and "door ajar" (currently being investigated) is very distracting, especially when slowing or accelerating to make traffic change maneuvers. these alarms are much more distracting than "hands free" phone calls you are checking alarms while changing lanes, merging into traffic, or navigating intersections etc. i give an approximate speed and incident date as these are ongoing continuing problems. thank you for your attention to this matter. *tr
The "door ajar" sensor seems to be broken intermittently causing the lights in the car come on (or not go off) making it difficult to see and very dangerous to drive. i nearly collided with a parked car when turning as the light came on. this is a clear safety issue and somebody is going to get killed because of it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while accelerating from a stop, the door ajar warning indicator illuminated for the driver's side door. the contact also stated that the doors would not lock. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was informed that there was no warranty and the repair would be at the contact's expense. the manufacturer was not aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
