We have classified the 630 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
This is the ubiquitous 'door ajar' alarm issue that ford refuses to acknowledge. the door ajar light along with its associated warning chime and interior lights will turn on randomly. sometimes i have to open and shut the door for several minutes to get the lights off so the battery will not run down and leave me stranded. on several occasions i have had to open and shut the door while driving in order to get this alarm to go off. there are youtube videos with thousands of hits on this issue as well as hundreds of online complaints; yet ford will not voluntarily recall and fix this issue.
I have a 2011 ford edge. door ajar light stays on and does not turn interior light out. it has become very dangerous and difficult to see when driving at night. i am also not able to lock my doors. this is a safety issue and should absolutely be recalled!!! not acceptable that ford has not been required to correct this siruation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving at an unknown speed, the door ajar warning indicator illuminated and the parking and cabin lights remained illuminated indefinitely. as a result, the battery died. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer where the failure was remedied, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 59,000.
Driver door ajar. interior light stays on. cannot lock door. battery drains. have been to service once already, cost $250.00 and issue is not resolved.
On my 2011 ford edge, the driver's door ajar light stays on, even when the door is shut. this is causing my interior lights to stay while operating the vehicle or when i exit the vehicle, unnecessarily draining the battery. additionally, this is a major safety issue as i am unable to lock the doors from my driver control panel (for example, if one of my children happens to open their lock, i cannot lock it again electronically). if i happen to not notice that they have opened their door, they could accidentally open it and fall out. or, say i run up on a bad situation, i am unable to lock the doors automatically in a quick instance. ford, please do the right thing and recall this item for a fix. thanks
2011 ford edge. passenger door started saying door ajar error. have tried all the quick fixes none of them have worked. have slammed and reopened and reclosed. have tried putting the key in and turning it off and on. doesn't work . have ttied spraying the latch with brake cleaner and wd40. it's making my inside light stay on. i have no clue what to do if it won't go off. it's going to kill my battery. it's to the point where i'm afraid to let anyone in on the front passenger side. bc once it says that it takes forever to get the ligot to go out. sucks so bad. so aggravating when i can't get the inside lights to go out or the car to lock. this sucks!!! also my digital screen is constantly locking up going black and won't hold my bluetooth connection. i hate this car. . i have been. at this point driving our 2000 nissan frontier. i paid extra for the warranty but the deductible is 500. don't have it right now.
Faulty driver side door latch assembly. ford knows of issue in tsb's. doors won't lock at highway speeds due to door ajar being sensed.
Driver door ajar sensor stays on even though door is securely closed which causes interior lights to stay on and making it hard to see to back up at night. door will not lock when this sensor stays on which is especially unsafe for transporting children or securing yourself in your car in less than favorable conditions. battery can run down with lights staying on leaving you stranded.
The door ajar switch stays on all the time . it cause the lights on the inside for few minutes and you can't see how to drive at night you have to wait for them to go out.
Driver door open keeps showing up even when then door is shut. this results in inside lights not shutting off and others annoying things as well. i am having to reshot the door several times while trying to drive the vehicle. this is not safe. why has there not been a recall on this issue?
Driver side door ajar indicator light comes on when the door is securely closed causing doors to remain unlocked while driving. i had the door latch assembly replace back in july 2013 at a cost of $309. the same issue has reoccurred nearly 3 yrs. later. i contacted the dealer who stated sensor could need cleaning for a cost of $180 or latch replacement might be required again at over $300. i strongly believe this is a well documented safety issue that ford needs to address.
Have a "driver door ajar" warning light on 90% of the time when the door is fully closed. interior lights remain on and do not go off unless engine is started. this is apparently a very common problem with ford edge vehicles, yet ford does not seem to want to recall. why? this is not a cheap or easy fix for the consumer.
The dome light comes on while vehicle is on movement and creates a night driving hazard. the doors will not lock which is a major safety issue. the false door ajar signal prevents the driver from recognizing a real door ajar situation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while in park, the door ajar warning light remained illuminated with all doors closed. in addition, the contact was unable to lock the door electronically, as the dome light remained illuminated. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 36,000.
The door ajar light remains on, no matter how hard or soft i close the door, i must open and close it 3-7 times before the door ajar light turns off. if it doesn't, it remains on the entire time driving. i am unable to unlock the door with the remote sometimes, making it unsafe when i leave work late. then unable to lock the door as soon as i get in since the car thinks my door is ajar. very unsafe! this has been going on for months, mileage is at 73000.
Drivers side door sensor is saying the drivers side door is open and eventhough the door is closed. this leaves the interior lights on and drains the battery. this originally happened when the vehicle was under warranty, the dealership "cleaned" the latch and it quit, then it started acting up again after the warranty ran out and now they want to replace it and have me pay for it.
After shifting into park, a warning flashes on the screen to shift into park. repeated attempts finally will allow the shift to shut down
Door ajar light comes on despite door being securely closed which prevents door from auto locking at speeds over 15 miles an hour or being able to be locked using control panel outside. poses hazard as it can register ajar while driving and unlock the door at random.
Door ajar signal stays on when door is closed. dome lights stays on because the door ajar. doors don't lock because of the door ajar. had it fixed one time and now its doing it a second time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. after entering the vehicle on the front passenger side, the door ajar warning light illuminated. the contact reopened and closed the door, but the light remained illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000. the vin was not provided.
Door latch assembly malfunction is extremely unsafe especially when backing up at night. the front passenger side was repaired by the dealership but now the back door on the driver side is showing ajar therefore the interior lighting is on and making it difficult to see at night. making things more difficult is that the back up camera has stopped working also.
Door ajar sensor will not go off and has led to the dome light not shutting off and will kill the battery. takes 10-15 minutes of opening and shutting both doors on the drivers side. if i don't do this i will end up with a dead battery! usually this happens when i start my car or get out of my car. there has also been a couple times when while driving the door ajar sensor and dome light come on. this is a safety issue when driving at night.
To whom it may concern, i have a 2011 ford edge limited that i bought from shultz ford in wexford pa in 2014. i had wonderful customer service and couldn't ask for a better team to work with. [xxx] was a great salesman and treated me like i was his friend instead of a salesman. my experience was the best! in march of 2016, i was made aware of the apim module for my 2011 ford edge limited being extended from the original manufactures date. i notified shultz in march of 2016 only to find out that the warranty was expired by one month. it's not their fault by any means, but to me and my family it is a safety concern and also a liability. you see, i have 4 precious children and they are active and always playing from ages 2 to 9 years old. if they are playing in the yard i cannot see them when i put my ford in reverse, and as you know in the past and now several children have lost their lives due drivers not knowing if anything is behind them. this is a huge safety concern for me and gives me anxiety thinking of this. i truly and honestly feel this should be a safety recall and not just an extended warranty repair. so at present day, my back up camera continues not to work and blacks out and i do not have any idea if anyone is behind me or not. it's very discouraging because i love ford and the product that you produce. all i'm asking is that you will replace this apim module because ford needs to ensure the safety of its customers and guarantee its cars are made well and functioning as they were intended. i look forward to hearing from you in the near future. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The driver side rear door ajar light is on and no matter how many times i close the door it will stay on. it will stay on when i'm driving and stationary.
The drivers side door always says is ajar causing my fianc to drive around with the dome lights on. she already has trouble seeing at night and this is a disaster waiting to happen. the door is clearly closed. i noticed the door sensors are built into the latch so i looked up how hard it would be to change with the part o amazon and came across hundreds maybe even thousands of people all with the exact same problem. i don't understand how this isn't a recall with so many vehicles malfunctioning over many many years! do the right thing! lives are at stake! if you do right by your customers we will continue to buy your great products! but not at the cost of what could happen if this continues. i thank you for your time. *tr
My wife and i bought a 2011 ford edge on october 28, 2015 with premium care extended service plan. we asked before we tooked the plan what was covered. it was explained to us that it was covered from bumper to bumper for 36,000 miles or 36 months. we have a issue with our sunroof not closing when stationary. you have to hold the button and pull it shut. they explained to us that thee warranty covers the motor which they have already replaced and it did not solve the problem. they say it is the track and we were told that is not covered, i was told by the mechanic at the dealership service center where we purchased the vehicle from the track should have not gone bad that soon. the only thing we were given showing what the premium care warranty cover is a partial list. when you go to the website it still only shows you partial list like the brochure.ford needs to do a recall or replace it.because i have found numerous people of the same models or older or newer models where car buyers are told or when a question is asked to a saleman and to there bosses you take there word for it and that it is true because they are trained to do there job and research of the ford vehicles and the warranty they offer. when people are told wrong they don't go back or they lose customers do to not being done right. all we is asking is for them to stand up to their word and fix the problem since their employees don't have a clear understanding of a product of what they are selling.
When stationary and 1st started it will state that the driver door is ajar when it is clearly closed. this has caused my doors not to lock and this is a safety concern. this has happened multiple times in the last month.
Door sensor fails to register that the door is closed. won't allow doors to lock while operating the vehicle. sensor will randomly fail, causing the interior and exterior lights to come on, sometimes draining the battery. this is a huge problem, and there are thousands of online complaints about this. ford is unwilling to cover repair costs and will not warranty their work if you have them repair it.
Driver's side door latch sensor indicates door ajar continually when it is not ajar. this results in interior lights remaining on for a while when driving the vehicle unless message is acknowledged on drivers panel. doors remain unlocked. lights remain on when exiting and leaving the vehicle. this problem first occurred under warranty in 2012 and door latch was replaced. now it has occurred again and will need to be addressed. it is a significant nuisance and potential safety issue, especially at night. the number of identical complaints in this database clearly indicates to me that a systemic problem exists and should be addressed by the manufacturer.
Door ajar light - stays on and keeps the interior lights on. all doors are shut, and lights still stay on because of door ajar light. it has killed the battery several times leaving me stranded in several places.
Dashboard displays driver side door ajar when door is locked. dome lights remain on and alarm system cannot be armed.
Takata recall. the driver door ajar light stays on at all times. will not go off no matter how many times you shut the door, the dome light stays on, runds the battery dead. i have tried every thing including wd 40. i believe it is the sensor but i am not a mechanic so.... i have googled this issue and it seems that everyone that owns a ford edge has this issue. i can not believe there is not a recall on this issue.my driver door has at times not latched completely. i believe this is a safety issue as i am driving on the freeway and have small children. ford needs to get their act together and recall this issue for every one that owns a ford edge. i have bought fords for years. this will be my last. this issue is everytime you enter the vehicle. stationary, driving, freeway, highway, turning. this has been going on for months now. has been a continuing problem for several months.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving 30 mph, the interior lighting illuminated. the following day, the security alarm sounded on and off constantly. once the contact entered the vehicle, the door ajar indicator illuminated. the contact was stranded many times due to the failures. the dealer was notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the failure mileage was 55,000.
Both when the car is stationary and moving the driver's side door will be closed but the dashboard indicator will say the driver's side door is ajar despite the door being securely closed. this results in the interior overhead lights staying on for up to five minutes. additionally, the doors will not lock despite trying to lock them using the locking button located on the door or the key fob. this began happening about a year ago in march 2016. i know many other 2011 ford edge drivers suffer from this same problem. this is a safety hazard because the lights remain on making it dangerous to drive at night and drains the battery leaving the driver stranded due to a dead battery. the unlocked doors could result in someone opening the door in a dangerous neighborhood and forcing the driver or passenger form the vehicle. this needs to be fixed immediately or ford will no longer receive my business.
Door ajar sensor stays on.
Door ajar warning issue-of course warranty is over, ford is really not trying to satisfy it's customers. i refuse to bring to dealership because they charge unreasonable rates and look for other issues not associated to my reason for bringing in the car. i will try to repair myself or bring to a mom and pop repair shop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while the vehicle was parked, the door ajar warning light remained illuminated. the interior dome light remained illuminated also. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the door switch and the door latch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 66,000.
Have started to receive "door ajar warning" indication when the driver door is closed. have researched on-line sites and found it to be a very common problem with this model ford vehicle. i consider this to be a personal safety issue as the vehicle's doors will remain unlocked until the problem is addressed. if i get the warning to go away when the vehicle is stationary the doors will lock and i can begin my drive. on numerous occasions as i am driving the warning will return and the doors will unlock automatically. this can be very unnerving and frightening at times as the interior lights will come on as part of this problem. when this happens at night the driver's vision is compromised by the interior lights and drawn away from the road. in addition, the safety of the vehicle's occupants is compromised as the doors remain unlocked. this problem needs to be addressed by ford and a recall issued. i have inquired with my local dealer and received an estimate of $600 for the repair to be made.

I have had my door ajar sensors malfunction 3 seperate times. this issue has been fixed twice under warranty. this 3rd time i have been quoted $800+ to fix this because now both doors are malfunctioning. this is a huge annoyance and a safety hazard. this makes my doom lights stay on and will not allow me to lock my doors while i am using my car, which is extremely scary.
Driver door ajar light stays on even when the door is clearly closed. the car will not stay locked; i press the door lock and the doors lock and then immediately unlock so i cannot have my car doors locked while i am driving. this is a constant problem; it is not intermittent. i am very disappointed in this car. i have had to have the throttle body replaced at a cost of $500.00, i have had a brake booster failure which had to be fixed, and now this problem which i read is a costly fix. this is my first ford vehicle; what is the problem?
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving various speeds, the door ajar warning indicator illuminated with the door closed. in addition, after the vehicle was parked, the interior lighting failed to shut off and caused the battery to become inoperable. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the door sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.
Drivers door ajar switch does not recognize that the door is closed.
This is the second time the drivers door latch has failed. when it fails you can't always lock doors and light will stay illuminated on the dash. this also causes the electrical system to stay active even when the vehicle is off causing the battery to be drained. this recently killed our battery. it appears as if ford has no fix for this as many have seen this failure to recur every 35k or so, guess it depends on how often you open/close the door to wear out the switch. poor design.
Drivers door latch switch. cannot lock doors or dome light always stays on.
When i go to shut my drivers side door it tells me that's it's not shut when it definitely is. this causes my interior and exterior lights to remain on. it takes multiple times of opening and closing the door for it to finally register that the door is indeed shut. it didn't start until a few months after owning the vehicle. when it first started it happened maybe once a month but recently it's been every time i get into the vehicle.
