On average, the 2008 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 101 844 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2008 Ford Edge

Beneath the drivers seat, there is a loud sound that resignates throughout the vehicle. also the electrical panel had to be replaced and sensors go off periodically.

Bought my 2008 ford edge 3 years ago with no problems. had some work done after a wreck year and a half ago. after the repair, it began jerking whether i was on the highway or city streets. i noticed that when it jerks, i lose rpms at the same time. i have to hit the gas to get it to accelerate. feels like the gears are slipping and it doesn't happen t consistent speeds. some days are worse than others and some days doesn't occur at all. it will also idle rough and had before jerked when going from reverse to drive. also, april 2014, i was backing into a parking spot when the car completely died. i turned the ignition off and then started the car again. it started right up. that is the only time that has happened. *tr

I was stoped at stop sign my 2008 ford edge with no signs of problems. when i started to pull out there was low power and the wrench signal went on. car would not go faster then 5mph. i was very concerned for cars in back of were impatient and passing. i researched this problem on the inertnet and it seems to be happening with alot of these make and model cars. *tr

The vehicle stalls at low speeds and at red lights and stop signs without warning and without great consistency. this happens multiple times per day/trip with no resolution. dealer and independent mechanic cannot identify the problem as no codes are thrown when it happens and it restarts after stalling. this is a significant safety issue. *tr

When driving the vehicle the power train problem indicator light and check engine light come on and the car loses all power. car will not exceed 900 rpm and will barely move. i had the trouble codes read and it is indicating that the throttle is showing stuck closed and open. i believe that this is the same issue as with several other ford models and should have been part of the extended warranty that covered the throttle bodies from several other models. this issue poses a serious safety risk do to the fact that it has happened several times and at various speeds, if this were to happen at highway speeds in heavy traffic it could be horrible. i have researched this problem extensively online and found that it is a fairly common issue with the edge. *tr

Without any warning or codes, the car stopped running. upon restart the fan ran extremely fast and loud. upon inspection, the water pump gaskets had essentially melted, all coolant had leaked out and the entire coolant/water pump system needed to be fixed and replaced at a cost of more than $3,000. of course the vehicle was only 8,000 miles out of warranty. i've seen at least one other complaint identical to this one. it is quoted here: "discovered my 2008 edge has a failed water pump asy. car overheated due to this. according to several seasoned mechanics and ford, this should not happen to this car with this amount of mileage. the way this car was engineered, it is a $2300+ repair - for a water pump! spoke with ford several times asking for them to step-up and take responsibility. got no help except i should keep my receipts. very disappointed in ford." *tr

Entering highway and auto would not shift gears or accelerate. stayed idle at over 5 rpm's and had to pull off the road. seemed like a transmission problem. towed to repair shop for assessment.still at shop. this vehicle on multiple occasions before this incident has regularly engaged in a violent jerk when i have engaged it in drive or reverse. seems like a transmission issue but dealer wont do anything unless they can duplicate problem. i have seen and know of numerous other ford edge owners that have had the same issue and no fix has been found or dealer and ford wont fix unless it duplicated the issue while they have the vehicle and most times its something not covered. this is a serious safety issue and they need to be held accountable. *js

I own a 2008 ford edge. recently i noticed my edge having a hard time shifting into fast mode. i took it to the ford dealership, nothing is wrong. today it was horrible!!! i get to the stop light, my edge would not "take off" like the other cars. i sat there embarrassed for two mins trying to press the accelerator, edge finally jerked and then took off. i am very disappointed in ford. i can't believe they have not recalled this edge. now, i have to pay to get edge fixed when ford could fix the issue,. there are thousands of people complaining about this vehicle. *tr

I see similar complaints on your web site, about rough shifting into reverse from the parked position and when backing up from the drive position. is there a planed recall for this issue? *tr

Transmission seems to be a issue with the ford edge. why has there not been a recall on this product? so many complaints on the ford edge transmission. i witness this first hand, may 2, 2014. while driving on the high way, my car out of know where seem to have lost power. the only thing that was moving was the rpm, but the car was slowing down. finally after pulling to the side of the highway, and turning the car off, it reset some how and at least got me to work. i had to get the car towed from work back home because i did not want to run into the same issue. i did research and seems like i have not been the only one with this issue. matter of fact there is a long list on you tube. what has ford done to correct this issue. other than repeatedly taking income from hard working consumers, for a issue that has not been resolved. *tr

When i put into gear the transmission jerks into gear. all the vehicle codes go off at once. one incident i lost power when i came to a stop at an intersection. i accelerated and vehicle hesitated to accelerate. the. speedometer read zero and i was clearly going over 40mph. i have only had the vehicle 7mos. i took it in for service at the ford dealer twice and was told it was nothing and that it might be the battery. today is the final straw. i am writing this at the ford dealer. the transmission is jerking way to much. it is unsafe to drive. and they are trying to put me in a new car..i want my car fixed. . *tr

For over a year when my car had less than 100k and still under extended warranty my transmission started slipping and slamming into gear on takeoff. i took to ford dealer ship and they ran disnostics and found nothing wrong but reprogramed the computer. that did not fix the issue. the car continues to todays to slip and slam on take off, the odometer bounces and the engine start cutting out/loosing power. again the dealer said if the computer is not setting codes they cannot fix. now at 110k out of warranty the problem continues just getting worse. i believe by reading the blogs that this is a large issue that ford knows about but refuses to admit bad transmission design and will not recall. i think they should either fix the issue at their cost or buy back the vehcile. i am sure the main issue is the cost to ford to fix the issue and they know what the problem is. they are more worried their stock holders that their customers. i guess they will need a bailout if they keep this trend up. i used to hold ford as a quality company, with quality products, but no longer. the foreign car companies are producing a better quality product. i just want my car fixed or replaced. Driving northbound on lake shore drive in chicago, illinois was accelerating on an incline and engine was racing but vehicle was losing power, made a popping noise, white smoke began billowing out of hood, lost all power was rolling to the nearest safety lane which was a turning lane just being opened by city workers when they said for me to get out of the car they saw flames coming out of the lower part of the engine. had it towed to ford dealer where mechanic stated there was a blown rod through the oil pan. the last oil change i had was 2/19/13 at 58,840 miles in car. *tr

While driving on freeway with children in car on freeway, car suddenly made a hard sound, speedometer dropped to 0 instantly, all dash board lights came on, rpm stayed between 2 and 3, once traffic slowed and accelerator was eased off of car began to slow and would not pick back up speed when pressed again- even when pushed all the way down. i pulled over to the shoulder and turned the engine off. then turned it back on. then i tried to put it into gear. the engine sound as if gas was being given to engine from accelerator and rpm was stuck at 2-3, when put into gear, car jolted really hard and moved ever so slowely when i tried to drive it back into traffic to get my family off freeway, even when i pressed pedal all the way to the floor, car barely moved. i had to keep trying multiple times to turn engine off, try to put it in gear, and get car going just to get it off freeway to safety. car eventually pulled into gear and drove normally after several tries. a single mother, with infant and older child on board, on a very busy freeway is very, scary scary scary. this happens often on either the freeway (driving fast) or driving out of the park's parking lot at slow pace. car slips out of gear or something and will not accelerate when i give it gas.

While driving my car, all of sudden the car just stops with the dash board displaying everything. when try to restart the car, it sounds like the car is trying to start even after releasing the key but it doesn't start. all power is lost except for the lights and radio. the car will eventually start after a couple of minutes and you start driving and it happens again. had car towed to auto repair place where diagnostics didn't show anything. the mechanic did drive the car and it stalled on him. he thought it was the "fuel kill switch" because it reset it and the car started. the switch was replaced and the car ran fine for 2 days then while driving on the highway started loosing speed and was unable to accelerate. the rpm's decreased then jumped up like the car had restarted. this happened twice then i lost all power and had to coast over to the shoulder. *tr

My wife was driving her 2008 ford escape from work on a very busy highway when she stopped at a store got back in started the car she noticed that the airbag light was on speedometer had lines going thru it when she put it into gear it made a real loud banging sound and jerked as she was driving' the car lost compression did not have any power at all. she made it home without getting killed or killing someone i went out to see what was wrong and when i started the car it made a load banging 'when i put it into gear it was even worst we called a tow truck and had it towed where we had bought it at ----- ---- ----- -------- it's the only ford dealer close and they have a very poor record for backing their warranty's. it sounds to me to be the computer chip i have a warranty on it still so there should be no reason for them not to fix it but i will bet that they say that the warranty does not cover the power train but it does so if you are having this problem with your 2008 escape do not let the tell you that it is not covered if you have a warranty.the computer chip that operates your power train is part of the power train' if not for that the car would not move unless it was being towed if you work for ford and see all of these complaint's about the same thing going on with the 2008 escape's what is it going to take before ford step's up someone to get killed. *tr

Investigation subject : electronic throttle body malfunction nhtsa action number: pe13003 must include 2008 ford edge to recall list!! had a very close call. vehicle shut off while making turn with on coming traffic. dealer says there is nothing they can do because this model is not included in the recall of the defective throttle bodies! there are way too many ford edge owners with this problem to be ignored in this recall. thank you ! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly jerked and all the warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was able to be driven to the dealer who stated that the computer system needed to be reset. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified and a complaint was filed. the failure mileage was 41,800. *tr

Vehicle was taken to power ford in valencia for standard service a week ago. 41,000 miles new tires bought- was told all was ok. one week later i am driving when suddenly speedometer stops and mileage is reading --- grinding noise then a wrench icon appears which means the powertrain is malfunctioning, then the air bag light went on and then an ! icon which means there is a problem with tires. terrified, i called power ford and told to bring it in... i was less than a half a mile away, and put on my hazard lights and barely made it the few clocks to the dealership. this is a haunting problem that i have read at least a dozen comments about the power train. had i been ion the freeway i don't think i would be alive. please investigate this issue with the ford edge. i did not know the outcome at all. thank you *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was merged to the side of the road, where the contact shut the engine off and restarted it. however, once the vehicle was shifted into gear it made a loud noise and vibrated violently. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

I bought my edge, used last year and i love it. although, every now and then while driving the transmission makes a huge bang noise. its scary!!! i hope that ford will take care of this. it seems there are other complaints regarding the same problem. *tr

Driving on freeway at 55mph, started up hill, motor had died. was able to restart, but had less power. once rpm's were above 2,000 would do reg. speed. got worse, left on road, later same day husband drove home, no problems. same problem more often. dealer changed sensor,as they were unsure of problem. over $600.00. has started doing same thing again. *tr ## vin failed ##

I own a 2008 ford edge. i have had it for just over 30 days and have had problems with it since the week that i purchased it. i have had it to the dealership several times and they are telling me that since there are no codes reading out and no light on and that they cant replicate the problem that they don't know what to do. i am supposed to monitor and call back with worse symptoms. i called them in thursday because i was on my way to work and my car skipped the whole way up a hill on the highway and when i got to the top of it my car completely powered down and shut off with the key still in the ignition and in the in position. i had to get off the road very quickly to avoid being hit by a 18 wheeler. i am happy that my child was not in the car but i am now scared for my family and my safety as well as others. severely unhappy with this vehicle!!!!! *tr

It happened when i came off the highway onto the side road, there was a loud clunk in the rear of the vehicle and i lost power to drive, and when i pressed the gas it would only go 30 miles of speed. i went into a parking lot, turned the motor off and let it sit for 10 min. i restarted it and it seemed fine. but now on a regular basis it will clunk in the rear like i have been hit and then clear up and drive good. i have had it checked many times by ford and other places but no one can find anything wrong with the drive train. i notice on ford forum that many people are having the same problem. there should be a recall for this vehicle by ford to cover all ford edges from 2008 to 2010 and have the drive trains replaced, even if they can not find any problems. or find out what is really happening to this vehicle and have them all recalled to fix the problem. *tr
