Transmission is banging into gear including reverse .at times is refuses to move forward . from a stand still it bangs when placed in reverse and bangs on up shifts 2nd and third gears .
Our water pump on our 2008 ford edge limited, suffered a breakdown which allowed water to enter the engine internally. the water mixed with the oil inside the engine causing a complete engine failure. we were informed it would cost $7,800.00 to install a new ford engine. at the time of engine failure the odometer showed 105,000 miles. the car was being driven in town at a speed of 35 miles per hour in the month of august, 2019. i noticed the air conditioning was blowing hot air so i glanced at the dashboard to see the engine temperature gauge registering h (hot). at no time did the "check engine" light come on to alert me of an engine problem. i had the edge towed to a garage where we were shown a bill for $7,800 to replace the entire engine due to the water pump bursting and leaking water into the engine which mixed with oil in the engine. we believe this engine failure was the direct result of the location of the water pump which was "internally" in the engine.
While driving the ford edge has a complete loss of power. the wrench light and battery light came on. the power steering would not work and i had to coast to the side of the road. i turned off the engine and was able to restart it. the mechanic was not able to replicate it. it has happened multiple times almost causing a wreck each time while driving in the city. luckily it has not happened on the highway. i have had the throttle body replaced as suggested in the forums for this problem. https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t35446_ds471580
Driving, going up a hill, the car stopped accelerating and lost power going up. i almost got into an accident. the car doesn't accelerate and it has all the fluids and changed of oils. the car clunks and has a wrench. when i put into reverse it jump a very minimum acceleration. i'm afraid to drive it. i had to tow the car. the mechanic couldn't find the problem. he said he cleared up the computer and it was fine. then i was driving on the highway and it happened again. no acceleration. why ford hasn't made this into a safety recall. i did my investigation and i believe it has to do with the transmission sensors. please help me.

Driving to work i noticed the temperature gauge got all the way up and i pulled over, since i was driving on the i-41 northbound highway, i decided to get off the highway since i was pretty close to the exit. i called my husband for assistance and right after he dropped me off at work, he checked the suv and noticed the coolant reservoir was very low. we took it to the mechanic and after the inspection his diagnostic was a 'water pump failure ' since the water pump is located 'inside ' the engine itself, it will be a 'very expensive fix' so the mechanic recommended to report it since it may be fomoco's faulty. i completely agreed with hem, because the fact they installed the water pump inside the engine, doesn't make any sense, because just a inexpensive pump affected the whole engine and to repair it, will cost more than the suv itself. this happened on january 28th 2019, around 1:30. my husband and i are hoping there is a 'recall ' regarding this matter.
Water pump went out causing car to overheat. over view of vehicle determined that when the pump went out it mixed the antifreeze and oil inside the engine. instead of just replacing the water pump now i need a whole new engine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle jerked without warning. the vehicle was taken to nakoma plaza auto (608-271-2323, located at 4514 verona rd, madison, wi 53711) where it was diagnosed that the driveshaft needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure nd referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 165,000. *tt*jb
Several times now, my car will not accelerate. this has happened while going 40, 60, 70mph on the hwy. i have had to instantly put hazards on and try to pull over which isn't always easy during rush hour traffic. when this happens, i pull off, and then my car lurches forward and shifts gears and then can accelerate. this has also happened when i have been at a complete stop, and tried to accelerate. when you cannot move forward, or crawl at speeds under 5mph, but your rpms are reaching 7, there is something seriously wrong. i have taken it in a few times only to be told they cannot find or recreate the issues, so they send me on my way. it sounds as if many others are having the exact same issues. i am very nervous that my luck in pulling off out of harms way will run out. i have called my dealership to once again have it looked at but they cannot get me in for 10 days.... should i even drive this car if it is not reliable?? i truly am frightened to drive now, and this is my only car and am a single mother. not sure what i am supposed to do. i really hope that ford recalls this, as i have read that there are several lawsuits pending this exact issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving 10 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle seized. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to arrotta's automax and rv (6623 n division st, spokane, wa 99208, 1-509-703-7797), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000. *tt *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while operating the vehicle, a clunking noise was present when shifting gears and the vehicle hesitated while accelerating. on several occasions, the check engine indicator illuminated during the failures. after turning the vehicle off and back on, the failure would sometimes be corrected. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failures. the manufacturer and local dealer were not notified. the failure mileage was 85,000.
The truck suddenly stalls out, u press the accelerator and the truck doesn't pick up speed, i turn the ignition on and it doesn't start, it cuts off in the mist of driving and turning...very dangerous there should be a recall and it should not expire i have my children in the car with me!!!!
Internal water pump failure while driving causing engine to shut off.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving 25-30 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the a single ignition coil failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the dealer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 109,235.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 40 mph, the contact heard a clattering noise emitting from the vehicle. the contact also noticed hot water coming from the vehicle. the contact lifted the hood and observed that the vehicle's water pump had burst, which caused water to leak into the engine. a certified mechanic diagnosed that the water pump failed and caused the engine to fail as well. the water pump, timing chain, tensioners, phasers, and several other unidentified parts needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact called white ford lincoln (located at 4120 front st, winnsboro, la 71295; 888-303-4692) and was informed that the water pump entered the engine, which caused failures to occur, and that they would have to contact the corporate office. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened case number: cas13013218. the approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
Two weeks ago i was driving on nj rout 9 when the transmission sounded like it was in neutral but it wasn't. all the warning lights were on and was able to drive to a safe area and stop. i did not turn the car off and exited the car and tried to open the rear doors and hatch but couldn't. next i turned the car off and waited a few minutes before starting it. when it started, all was fine. the next morning i drove it to a transmission shop without incident. there was only 62,000 miles on it at the time but the warranty expired because it was more than seven years. the oss was replaced at a cost of 750.00. this is not the firs major issue with this vehicle. less than one year ago two coils faulted causing a back feed of too much voltage to the computer causing it to fry. a cost of more than 3,000.00 to repair.
At a stop sign, stepped on the gas, the car wouldn't move. still running and in gear. apparent water pump failure with no warning at all. leaked antifreeze into the oil. no recalls or tsbs on the water pump.
Without any warning - no high temp light or any engine light - the water pump failed causing severe damage to the engine because it caused the timing chain to go slack and allowing coolant to get into the engine. this seems to be a known issue with this engine. i ran diagnosis the same morning with perfect results before failure. i was turning onto my street when vehicle lost power and would not start again.
My 2008 ford edge (since i brought it) has been having the same issue. when driving the vehicle, all of the lights on the panel will light up( wrench light, airbag light, tire pressure light...etc) the odometer will go off and have only dashes, the car will then have a loss of acceleration. the car feels like it is trying really hard to stay in gear or change gears.this will happen on the highway going 60mph as well as local roads at lower speeds. i will have to put my hazards on and pull over on the side. we figured out that if you disconnect the cables on the battery for a few minutes then reconnect the car will then run again ok. this is a serious hazard. i have almost been hit several times on the highway due to this issue and have been hit from behind getting on the highway already. i have taken the car to ford several times only to be told that there is "no code reading" so they can not diagnose the problem. i have researched this to find out if other ford edges have the same issue and i came across a slew of other ford edge owners with the same issue. i have contacted ford several times to be told that there are no recalls on this. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the water pump fractured. as a result, the coolant and oil mixed, which damaged the engine. the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 138,000. updated 01/31/17*lj *cn

I purchased this car within the past month from a used car dealership with 78,000 miles on it. this past weekend, i was pulling into a parking lot and the engine shut off while trying to park my car. luckily there wasn't any traffic behind me but if this would have happened while cars were behind me, i probably would have gotten into a severe accident.
Driving at i275 to st petersburg, at 60mph the car made a loud noise from the engine and reduced gears abruptly, it felt like a hard braking from the engine, very hard. the rpm went skyrocket, the car lost power and wouldn't go over 45mph or it would do the same again. it looked like it was on a very low gear, as it was at 40mph doing almost 4000rpm... i stopped at a gas station, turned it of and let it sit for about 20 minutes. when i tried to go back rome, after 2 miles it did the same, it lost power. i drove back to the gas station and had it towed home.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact mentioned that the accelerator pedal had to be depressed aggressively for the vehicle to move forward. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed nor repaired. the technician stated that the throttle body may have failed and may need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 128,000. the vin was not available.

As everyone else, loses acceleration, shut off and it seems fine later. high rpm no power, as if it cant shift. no error lights, shaking along with sputtering when it has a load.....very dangerous as i drive major highway daily. has been happening more frequently now
When i was driving to work all of a sudden my airbag and wrench light came on and i have no speedometer or tachometer reading. if i pulled over and starting driving again i had very little pickup even though the rpms were over 2,000. there is also a very loud clunk when you put it in drive or reverse.
On approximately 7/6/2016, while in motion, traveling north on riverside drive -i-55 north, on the 2-lane overpass at i-55 & mclemore, 18 wheeler was to the right and i was behind another motorist in line and traveling about 70 mph with a line of vehicles behind, it was after work rush hour 4:45pm; when as i am driving the vehicle sputters, seemed to it lose power, decelerates in the middle of on going traffic. the engine light flashed and then stayed illuminated, i could not accelerate in order get off to the side of the highway and traffic was at a very fast flow. my sync system surged, a-c stopped blowing cold air, the vehicle started "missing" but the vehicle did not shut off. took the vehicle to advance auto parts store and was told that i had a misfire in 3 of the ignition coils, bought replacement coils and had all 6 of them replaced. start the vehicle and the engine light was cleared but came right back, the vehicle is still miss firing on the exact same coils this time along with the pcm. out of hundreds of dollars at the moment and it looks like i will be out of $3000 to ford for an issue that they know is faulty within the design of the computer. we've already paid $30,000 for the vehicle, why would ford not recall and repair these issues if they are aware of it????
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 70 mph, the instrument panel illuminated and the speedometer fluctuated down to zero. the contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road and restarted it after ten minutes. the contact stated that an abnormal sound emitted from the transmission area after the vehicle was restarted. the vehicle was shifted into the drive position and operated normally. the failure recurred several times in the past year. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle began to jerk and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition coil exploded and damaged the pcm. multiple coils and the pcm needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 84,781.
I own a 2008 edge with approx. 150,000 miles on it. the car has stalled on me 3 times in the last 3-4 months. the first time the car stalled i was on the freeway during rush hour. thankfully i was able to restart the care and move it off to the side of the freeway before it stalled again. after having it towed, i was told that the water pump had cracked. the water pump involved a lot of labor and cost me about $1100-$1200 with the tow. about a week later, i was again driving on the freeway and the car stalled. again, i was able to make my way off the freeway before the car died completely. once again, i had to have the care towed. this time, i was told that the engine appeared to have coolant in the oil and created a murky goo. my engine needed to be replaced. another $2200. the last incident was friday, may 20th. i had no indication there was a problem of any kind. i literally drove less than half a mile when the care overheated and stalled. i called and emailed ford to see if i could get any assistance, but have either have had no response or an email indicating that if the car is not under warranty or if no recalls have been issued, i would be responsible for any work that needs to be done. i contacted the dealership where i purchased the car, but have not received a response. i am out of money and options. i have been without a car for almost two weeks and feel incredibly frustrated by this situation. i find it absurd that a vehicle would get a blown engine with no warning and that a recall has not been issued. i am facing another $1200 or so in vehicle repairs.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while at a stop light and making a left turn, the contact heard a grinding noise emerging from the engine compartment. the vehicle stalled. while attempting to start the vehicle, all the warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle did not start. after approximately one minute, the vehicle started, surged, and then stalled completely. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the water pump failed and damaged the engine. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
Transmission, and transfer-case leaking directly on the exhaust right by the manifold and professional stated it was severe fire hazard and not drive it, and also the rear main engine oil seal is leaking. the dealership was aware of all the issues and manipulated me as a female into purchasing the vehicle. the dealership argued that they were not responsible and that i had a 3 month 3,000 mile warranty when in fact my purchase agreement stated it was as is. which means they lied to me. the transmission shop who inspected my vehicle stated that the leaks have been ongoing for quite sometime before i even purchased the car. i just purchased this vehicle in october of 2015 and already have made six payments and now i am paying for something that i can not even drive because it was not repaired correctly the first time so it had to be returned again. it is going on the fourth week. i do have a loner but i have already spent over $300.00 in gas. i only have one vehicle at this time and that is the ford edge and it is very upsetting to think that i have made 3 complaints regarding this issues to the ford motor company about the fire hazard issue and have had no satisfaction or results other then they claim it the dealers problem. i have done numerous research about his particular vehicle, and there are thousands of issues regarding the transmission leak on the exhaust as a fire hazard. is this going to be like general motors, and wait for someones car to actually catch fire??? or is it going to be like general motors and wait for someone to be killed before they will do anything about it? my vehicle is not the only one. there are thousands of complaints out there regarding the same exact issue. i am basically paying for a car that i cannot drive at all.
Car loses all power unexpectedly and randomly, at any and all speeds, anywhere, anytime, displaying odo data error, transmission violently shakes into gears, car revs up but does not accelarate, upon turning car off, removing key, opening door, reinserting and restarting car (if you managed to safely pull on the side of the road), all error displays disappear, transmission clunks in gear and car needs to be forced to rev up to reset, once it resets car drives normally again till next failure. ford dealers unable to diagnose problem as it leaves no codes. first time charged $800 for "possible" cause that wasn't, now $1700 as pcm melted and took along with it all ignition coils. guess what, odo data error and transmission trouble still present. both the ford company and you people at the nhtsa need to step up to the plate and if ford doesn't voluntarily recall the edge, you ought to force them to recall it before someone gets mauled. this auto defect is an absolute danger to the operator and anyone else on the road.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle experienced a loss of acceleration and the odometer went blank as there was a sudden increase of engine rpms. the contact mentioned that the wrench light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 20 mph, the engine revved up to 7,000 rpms per minute. the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road with caution and the engine was turned off. after restarting, the rpms increased rapidly. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the throttle body would need to be replaced. the vehicle was currently being repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 49,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 45 mph, the speed decreased independently, the gauges on the instrument panel failed, and the warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was merged to the side of the road where the engine was shut off and attempted to be restarted. the engine started to make an abnormal popping sound. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle would not move and suddenly all the gauges illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle stalled and was able to be restarted. the failure recurred a couple of times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed. the vehicle was repaired, but the remedy failed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 119,000.
Driving and all the sudden car loses transmission capability. it shifts really hard and when at a stop have to rev the engine to get it to go at a crawl. all lights on dashboard light up - tool wrench - air bag disabled - odometer and speedometer stop working. very dangerous in traffic!!!! *tr
My brakes started off feeling very stiff, then would sink into floor while making a hissing sound. often barely stopping. when stopped with my foot on the brake the engine will start sputtering like it is going to shut off, when i let off the brake it will run fine. there were no warning or indications that there was a problem and i have nearly wrecked multiple times. i contacted the local ford service department and was informed that they have fixed this same problem in several of the ford edge suvs and that it would cost between $600 and $700 to repair. if so many people are having the same issue why has ford not put out a recall on this? *tr
Was driving on freeway about to exit and transmission sounded as if it got stuck on 2nd gear. engine sounded loud at high rpms and my speed dropped. i got the vehicle towed to my well trusted mechanic and he concluded that my transmission needs to be replace. vehicle only has 65,500 miles. *tr
The water pump is located inside the engine and when a simple $160 part failed, it circulated anti-freeze through the engine necessitating a complete engine replacement. this happened within the span of 5 minutes with the first symptom the heat went off inside the cabin. no engine lights came on, the heat came back on and went off again, still no indication of engine or trouble lights going on. then major engine failure, instantly the oil light went on and within seconds the motor overheated. there was a terrible noise as i found my way to a safe spot to stop the car. this is the most basic kind of irresponsibility in creating an expensive product like a car. american companies owe it to the public not to foist a huge design defect on an unsuspecting public and should willingly pay 100% of any and all claims for this issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle suddenly would not accelerate. there were no warning lights illuminated. the contact coasted over to an emergency lane and shut the engine off. the vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred multiple times. the dealer stated that the failure appeared to be related to the throttle body, but there were no codes present to confirm. the mechanic also noticed that when the vehicle was shut off, the codes would reset; therefore, they were unable to locate the exact failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in ford's csc campaign: 13b17 (engine). the approximate failure mileage was 95,000....updated 08/25/15 *bf
I just been told by koons that i would have to pay 1,300 to fix a throttle issue on my 2008 ford edge, which i purchased as a used vehicle labor day special 2014. the car stalls, stops, acceleration is affected. ford knows the throttles are faulty and instead of recalling, they did a customer satisfaction and agreed to repair affected edge from 2009-2014. this is bogus i have 2008, which that has this issue. i refuse to pay this and don't have the money to invest in junk. koons told me because of my hesitation i was investigating in a car that has valued equity & would offer great trade. they knew..they yet put me in another dangerous car. i had accident as well, driving ca lost speed & stalled while crossing over in parking lot. *tr
While preparing to stop at a light, seemed to have lost all power. speedometer dropped to zero, airbag light came on and odometer was blank with a readout in its place that said something like odo failure also the wrench icon lit up. shifted to park and the car jumped and jerked and loud grinding noises came from transmission. was able to creep to a side street. turned off engine . waited several minutes , restarted car and the instrument panel returned to normal. drove home about 3 miles. took it to shop and they said it was a shaft seal. they replaced it for $182.00 the part was $12. got home and it leaks very badly it has leaked about a cup of fluid in 4 hours.(this was parked / not running) i am taking it back to the shop and hoping they can fix it right. i have been driving for over 30 years and never had this kind of problem. *tr
