We have classified the 238 complaints from 2008 Ford Edge about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I can be driving down the highway set on cruise control and my vehicle will come up odometer failure a wrench light, and transmission light and several others come on no speedometer. if i come to a stop taking off the vehicle is stuck in high gear and will barely pick up any speed until it makes a hard loud shift. you can pull over and reset it but when you take off it is the same thing. this is very dangerous you don't know when it will happen and i have been in the middle lane on a highway before when it kicked out. this has been linked back to bad tss and oss sensors in the transmission they need to be recalled before it kills someone.
Odo error data error while driving. odometer stops working, wrench light turns on, then air bag light. loss of power, transmission gets stuck in gear. you can't accelerate and have to cruise on to the right to pull over. happened twice, once on the freeway. code goes to the speed sensor which controls the transmission shifting. after you turn off your car and turn it on code resets however car is stuck in gear. after a few hard shifts finally goes back into gear. ford dealership says common problem however can't figure out if its a harness or the sensors. replacing sensors requires dropping the transmission.
While driving vehicle transmission skipped a couple of times. after stopping the transmission made a whining noise. when i moved forward it was very slow to move and would not accelerate properly. arriving home i put the vehicle in reverse and it made a clunking noise. it is currently at the transmission shop for evaluation.
I have a 2008 edge w/ 120k miles and once in a while, it gets stuck in the 1st gear. it did it to me twice in one month, and i notice it when i'm going down hill (like a parking garage). once i'm out on the street, that's where it gets stuck in the first gear. i had to pull over turn off the edge wait for about 1 minute and started it back up, and i like it resets the system cause it works fine after that.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact had not received a notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v384000 (air bags), but found the recall online. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. john kennedy ford of conshohocken (1403 ridge pike, conshohocken, pa 19428 (888) 377-1951) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle decelerated without warning and the vehicle jerked. the contact took the vehicle to a collision center for body repairs and the technician informed her that there was a transmission failure. the transmission needed to be replaced, but the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer stated that there was no extended warranty for the transmission. the manufacturer was made aware of the issues and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
My brakes make a hissing noise when i press down.. i have to press all the way down to get it to stop. this is very dangerous.also, my back tail lite has had to be replaced 2 times because the socket got hot. also, my car jumps sometimes when pressing on the gas(transmission issue?) i have also had the gas tank replaced(due to a recall)
My vehicle's transmission acts likes it's slipping or in neutral when it's not. jerks when it shifts gears. loses power when i try to accelerate. i did some research there are hundreds of complaints about the transmissions in the ford edge's. i started having issues several weeks ago back in october 2016. why should all the owners of these defective transmission have to pay for this to be fixed. that's not right! we gave ford our hard earned money just to get a defective vehicle. talked to ford today and they don't care. not going to do anything they stated. today i was at a 4 way stop in a school zone and when i wanted to take off it acted like it was in neutral. i got to where i could pull over and sat there a few minutes and was able to drive it the other mile home. it clunks when changing gears and jerks. it is a intermittent problem as it doesn't happen everyday.
Stopped at a light would not pull forward afterwards loud clunking noise, airbag light came on, service light came on, odometer went to zero, car would jerk while in gear but wouldn't move forward or reverse. i've done some research on this problem, hundreds of people are having the same problem with 2007 and 2008 edge. with most being transmission sensor failure. ford knows of this problem won't do anything about it.
The vehicle was in motion stopped at a stop light then proceeded to drive off or accelerate unable to move. gave more gas no acceleration able to pull over to the side shoulder noticed the tool bar on dash. turned the car off and waited 5 minutes then started the car and put into drive a loud thud was heard then the tool bar went away was able to accelerate drive the vehicle to dealer. during the drive car didn't respond well to acceleration but rpms increased but car didn't increase in speed. all of this occurred on a city street without turns
2008 ford edge transmission issues. the transmission does not shift properly and sticks in gear and shifts very erratically. it happens at least once a day or more depending on how often it is driven. the car has become unresponsive at different times to the the gas pedal and has actually shut off in the middle of the road, we were able to coast barely to safety. from reading ford forums it is a very common problem, and ford knows about it but will do nothing to correct the problem. we do not feel safe many times driving the car not knowing what the transmission will or won't do next,. *tr
Transmission disengages at random while moving in traffic. once it occurs, vehicle cannot be moved under it's own power. engine runs, but transmissions slips. high potential for being stranded in traffic and struck. has occurred at least 4 times. was able to coast to side of road. electronics in dash act up, including service wrench and no speedometer. apparently a known issue by ford (tsb 07-21-11). lots of common complaints online involving 2007-2008 model edges. related to faulty sensors (aa5z-7h103-b & aa5z-7m101-b). *tr
Driving at i275 to st petersburg, at 60mph the car made a loud noise from the engine and reduced gears abruptly, it felt like a hard braking from the engine, very hard. the rpm went skyrocket, the car lost power and wouldn't go over 45mph or it would do the same again. it looked like it was on a very low gear, as it was at 40mph doing almost 4000rpm... i stopped at a gas station, turned it of and let it sit for about 20 minutes. when i tried to go back rome, after 2 miles it did the same, it lost power. i drove back to the gas station and had it towed home.
My vehicle ford edge model 2008, lost control as well as speed when the wrench light came to the dashboard, immediately after the airbag light lit up, i had little or no engine power to engage gear to keep up with traffic speed. my speed dropped to 40 miles or less per hour. very dangerous situation because at that moment the odometer lighting also went off. driving on a highway at night no one drives below 40 miles per hour, made the situation pretty grave and dangerous. the problem comes from the power train faulty sensors near the transmission need to be replaced costing over $800,00, as for the airbag i haven't received a invoice yet.
For no particular reason my edge decelerates to ten miles an hour while the tach reads 3rpms it has happened on all types of roads and in traffic also. the tranny fluid is always fine. no codes on dash either. i have my gas pedal to the floor and it will only creep at 10 mph. when it reengages it is a large hard jerk forward. one evening as i pulled into my own driveway it wouldn't move forward at all i shut it off waited restarted it and it was like nothing happened. it does studder a bit going uphill almost like it doesn't want to go then it does. for a while i thought it was things like bad gas dirt in a fuel line low fluids but it isn't this 2008s need a recall as many other edge owners have the same issues. i have made an appt for the car at the dealer and i am not convinced they know the answer either. i received the recall for the gas tank , but i want one for this as i and many other ford edge owners have the same scary power train issues reported to you nhtsa please help us . i want a recall free repairs or a trade in with out being taken advantage of because of this problem thank you saylorsburg pennsylvania.
First i was driving when my breaks started to feel like they were locking up. come to find out it was the power break booster which cost me $504.00. then 2 weeks later my car starts to do a putting feeling and come to find out 2 of the coils burnt up the power control module costing me $1058.00. a few months before this it was in the ford dealership because of a leak on the fuel pump. costing me $216. i am furious i have had to spend this in the last month. i just seen on the news that ford has a recall on the power control module but it was not my year. i am simply asking if someone would please look into this so maybe i can get some of this money back to pay off the debt it caused me.
My radio has a short in the hardware. factory installed radio and it will turn off and turn back on repetitively some days, not allowing me to utilize sync. transmission has started kicking intermittently for the past month. while driving and slowing down.
On approximately 7/6/2016, while in motion, traveling north on riverside drive -i-55 north, on the 2-lane overpass at i-55 & mclemore, 18 wheeler was to the right and i was behind another motorist in line and traveling about 70 mph with a line of vehicles behind, it was after work rush hour 4:45pm; when as i am driving the vehicle sputters, seemed to it lose power, decelerates in the middle of on going traffic. the engine light flashed and then stayed illuminated, i could not accelerate in order get off to the side of the highway and traffic was at a very fast flow. my sync system surged, a-c stopped blowing cold air, the vehicle started "missing" but the vehicle did not shut off. took the vehicle to advance auto parts store and was told that i had a misfire in 3 of the ignition coils, bought replacement coils and had all 6 of them replaced. start the vehicle and the engine light was cleared but came right back, the vehicle is still miss firing on the exact same coils this time along with the pcm. out of hundreds of dollars at the moment and it looks like i will be out of $3000 to ford for an issue that they know is faulty within the design of the computer. we've already paid $30,000 for the vehicle, why would ford not recall and repair these issues if they are aware of it????
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 70 mph, the instrument panel illuminated and the speedometer fluctuated down to zero. the contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road and restarted it after ten minutes. the contact stated that an abnormal sound emitted from the transmission area after the vehicle was restarted. the vehicle was shifted into the drive position and operated normally. the failure recurred several times in the past year. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
My child and i were driving down a busy interstate, 1100 miles from home. the vehicle was set on cruise control at 70 mph. without warning, the car jerked. we had items that fell into the floorboard. i looked at my gauges and noticed the cars speedometer had gone to zero. the car began to coast even though the cruise control was still on. there was a lot of traffic on the interstate coming behind us. as i pushed the gas petal, the car would not go. i stopped the vehicle and called a ford dealer and they had it towed. the next day we were told that it was a "catastrophic internal failure in the transmission" also, that it blew out sensors ect.. i have written ford motor company regarding this issue and they state that there are no warranties or field service actions being taken and they urged me to contact with the ford dealer servicing the vehicle with any discount or issues. the ford edge has less than 100,000 miles, and i know i am not the only one this has happened to. this is a serious public safety hazard. it could have caused us to wreck or a truck to rear end us and should i have contacted the ford dealer then? i believe and investigation should take place before someone does gets hurt or killed. again, there was no warning before this happened. the car is requiring a complete transmission to the sum of $5,382.00. i will have the receipt as soon as it's repaired. i cannot explain a cause other than an internal failure, as the ford service man quoted. the car has 96,000 miles. thank you for your assistance. please do not hesitate to contact me regarding any questions. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
In recent weeks, car at times seemed to slip slightly while shifting or there was a hard, lagging shift. while driving on highway, speedometer stopped working, info/trip readout on dash showed dashes instead of numbers. after a few minutes, multiple warning lights showed on dash, including passenger airbag light, a wrench icon, then the low tire pressure warning icon. readout then changed to a tire pressure fault message. pulled off the highway and after making a turn, car seemed under-powered/acceleration was compromised. stopped at a service station, turned off the car, then restarted. after restarting, warning icons on dash disappeared. when car was shifted into reverse, car jerked violently and loud 'clunking' noise occurred. shifting in and out of reverse, while the car was still stationary, jerking became even more pronounced and clunking noise became louder. had the car towed to ford dealer - after diagnosis, was told 2 sensors (the tss & oss) in the transmission were faulty and needed to be replaced. additionally, was told fan module was also faulty, needed replacing. approximately $1700 in repairs and was without the car for over a week. after researching issue online, came across many people experiencing the same exact problem in ford edges, almost always around the same mileage (approx. 77,800) and for various years. this should be a recall! to be honest, though the car is operating normally at the moment, i have little to no confidence that this sensor repair actually fixes the problem long term as some anecdotal research seems to show that others have experienced a return of the issue even after the sensor replacement. i believe this situation warrants investigation by nhtsa as ford will deny/ignore the problem until forced to address it. too many people have this same issue and not only is it costly, but could be very dangerous as well.
After driving for a while (roughly a few hours) the edge does this hard jerk forward that feels like i'm practically being rear ended. it's like a hard pause, before it jerks forward. then it gradually accelerates. also, on a few occasions, while pulling out of a parking lot, the edge did not want to accelerate though i was pressing on the gas. mind you, i wasn't going fast because i had barely pulled out of the parking stall when this occurred. it barely accelerated then gradually came to a complete stop while in drive. this has also happened while i was exiting the freeway once. i initially thought my battery was the problem, but i had it replaced the following morning. i took it to the dealership and i was told nothing was wrong with it. this was the same response i got when i've taken it to ford during the term of my warranty. i have noticed that if the "check engine light" isn't on, nor if you're not paid out of pocket, ford does not recognize a problem. this problem is quite worrisome considering i'd hate to be stranded with my children in an intersection. i live in a very town (los angeles county) where traffic is steady and aggressive so knowing this problem can happen anytime is unsettling, especially because i have been rear ended once for not being able to proceed with traffic at a green light. 2008 ford edge, purchase in 2012
Turned on car and put it in reverse then drive when pulling out of parking lot,. transmission made a loud "clunk". pressed hard on gas but car would barely crawl. speedometer stopped working rpms would increase dramatically, wrench, check engine, airbag, and tire pressure lights all came on. continuing on city street problem remained. car eventually gained enough speed that rpms went down, but the speedometer still did not work. the next day, the problem disappeared except check engine light remains on.
Wrench appeared on dash. car went into "limp mode" would not accelerate rapidly. speedometer would not register.
While driving on a city road the car would not move when given gas. multiple lights went on the dash board. very dangerous situation because the car literally just stopped accelerating while in motion. mechanic diagnosed problem as a faulty output speed sensor in the transmission. this is an on going issue that many ford edge owners are experiencing but ford is not acknowledging the problem. there should be a recall as this is a very dangerous issue. i should also be reimbursed by ford for the repair.
My edge started slipping when placed in drive so i would turn it off and turn it on until the slipping stopped after i placed it in a gear. after checking for recalls i saw several other owners complain about the same issue. the odometer screed did similar check as others coming up with dashes and cycling and checking through processes. the car was recently driven and the same slipping happened but this time it caused internal damage to the transmission. most of the complaints i've read are in the same mileage range.
Same complaints as plenty of others. driving on the freeway at 65 mph and the dashboard lights up with *odo error*, the little screwdriver light came on, shows low tire pressure, the seatbelt/airbag light came on and the odometer stayed at zero. i couldn't accelerate and when i parked it, restarted it and tried to change gears it shook the car so hard and was so loud it could be heard inside the building. something is terribly wrong with this model / year of vehicle and nothing is being done about it. this is the second time it has happened to my car. the first time it reset itself so the dealership couldn't find anything wrong with it. so now if i pay to have it towed to a shop and it resets itself before they can figure out what the problem is, which is looks as if nobody can figure it out, then its wasted money on a tow and a huge risk that this happening again. this is extremely dangerous and i'm in shock to see how many other people have experienced this and nothing has been done. as soon as i typed in "odo error" in google it auto filled my exact car - i didn't even have to type it, so even google knows this is a major malfunction.
While driving on city street came to stop at stop sign went to proceed vehicle would not move check engine light on air bag light on no odo data where odometer mileage should be rolled car to curb no response from transmission hut off car waited a min or two restarted car back to normal advised dealer took car in a day later after 2 days of test driving car had same issue for them dealer retrieved problem code p0722 found both oss and tss sensors shorted both sensors replaced car ok now cost $835.00 this is a safety issue that should be fixed by recall before someone hurt or killed thank god i was on city street at time of issue not on highway dealer would not test on highway did not want to have to pay for tow truck
The car jerks into gear in drive and reverse. when the car is still and pushing on the gas to begin to drive, the tachometer revs past 3 and the speedometer is baring moving and the car is not accelerating. it hard shifts into gear (drive and reverse) and at times won't shift into gear at all. no acceleration in the car and very difficult to drive as shifting into gears is hard and jerks the car.
Same complaint as dozens of other 2008 ford edge owners. odo error comes up, almost all warning lights come on, tach and speedometer go to zero and car is stuck in gear making is almost impossible to accelerate from a stop. this has happened several times but is starting to happen more frequently and usually on the highway. this is clearly a dangerous defect that ford needs to address asap before people are seriously injured.
Bought my 2008 edge in 2012 and experienced issues with odo read error message and loss of power shortly there after. it happens most frequently on the freeway at higher rates of speed (60- 70 mph). i have had to pull off the freeway multiple times and restart the car. have heard from a few that the sensors in the transmission are shorting out but have heard other things as well. dealers refuses to look into problem and states since light is not on that they cannot read the code. this is dangerous as the vehicle is hard to keep speed and gain speed once this light comes on.
Transmission, and transfer-case leaking directly on the exhaust right by the manifold and professional stated it was severe fire hazard and not drive it, and also the rear main engine oil seal is leaking. the dealership was aware of all the issues and manipulated me as a female into purchasing the vehicle. the dealership argued that they were not responsible and that i had a 3 month 3,000 mile warranty when in fact my purchase agreement stated it was as is. which means they lied to me. the transmission shop who inspected my vehicle stated that the leaks have been ongoing for quite sometime before i even purchased the car. i just purchased this vehicle in october of 2015 and already have made six payments and now i am paying for something that i can not even drive because it was not repaired correctly the first time so it had to be returned again. it is going on the fourth week. i do have a loner but i have already spent over $300.00 in gas. i only have one vehicle at this time and that is the ford edge and it is very upsetting to think that i have made 3 complaints regarding this issues to the ford motor company about the fire hazard issue and have had no satisfaction or results other then they claim it the dealers problem. i have done numerous research about his particular vehicle, and there are thousands of issues regarding the transmission leak on the exhaust as a fire hazard. is this going to be like general motors, and wait for someones car to actually catch fire??? or is it going to be like general motors and wait for someone to be killed before they will do anything about it? my vehicle is not the only one. there are thousands of complaints out there regarding the same exact issue. i am basically paying for a car that i cannot drive at all.
I have a 2008 ford edge limited. i noticed that when i would get stuck in stop and go traffic the car would not shift from first to second gear. i would have to pull over put it in park and then try to go. this has happened quite a few times. my most recent incident was pulling into a parking garage and needing to back up. when i put the car in reverse it would not engage. it took several times moving from neutral to reverse for it to finally catch with a hard jerk.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle was making an abnormal noise and shaking violently. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the coil and the power train control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was then towed to a dealer but was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximately failure mileage was 87,000.
Car loses all power unexpectedly and randomly, at any and all speeds, anywhere, anytime, displaying odo data error, transmission violently shakes into gears, car revs up but does not accelarate, upon turning car off, removing key, opening door, reinserting and restarting car (if you managed to safely pull on the side of the road), all error displays disappear, transmission clunks in gear and car needs to be forced to rev up to reset, once it resets car drives normally again till next failure. ford dealers unable to diagnose problem as it leaves no codes. first time charged $800 for "possible" cause that wasn't, now $1700 as pcm melted and took along with it all ignition coils. guess what, odo data error and transmission trouble still present. both the ford company and you people at the nhtsa need to step up to the plate and if ford doesn't voluntarily recall the edge, you ought to force them to recall it before someone gets mauled. this auto defect is an absolute danger to the operator and anyone else on the road.
12/13/15 the first time the odo error light came on, it triggered other lights such as tire sensor, airbag deployed to come on after the odo error went away. odometer didn't work. turned car off,car would clunk heavily when switching gears. took to dealer they switched out cable harness and battery.problem went away. 1/18/16 odo error light came on along with same o other lights as before, no odometer. vehicle would not get out of second gear,( turned off when arrived home). next morning hard clunking into reverse just like previously vehicle in driveway no in motion. seemed to stay in 2nd gear again. turned into my husbands shop, garage where the vehicle seemed to be okay. drove to work no big issues so far. read up on line that 100's of consumers are having the same issue with the ford edge and the 2008 in particular seems to be the worst.
My car has multiple warning lights come on all at the same time. my dash says odo system fail, then is says the tire pressure monitor fails, the wrench for transmission comes on, then the tire pressure symbol comes on and flashes, the air bag light comes on, and the check engine light comes on. then my odometer goes to zero. if i slow down to a stop sign or something, i push the gas and the rpm's on my car go way up but my car hardly moves. once i get going to a higher speed, the rpm's go down...it is almost like it is stuck in a high gear. then when i put my car into drive after it was in park, my car jolts and makes a huge clanking noise. if i shut my car off and turn it back on, it makes a loud clanking noise but all my warning lights turn off except the check engine light. then when i push the gas again, it is still barely moving and in high rpm's but it will randomly kick into whatever gear it needs to be in and make another loud clanking sound and run fine. this is very dangerous and i am not sure why it has not been recalled yet. this happened to me for the first time in the middle of a four way stop and i blocked the intersection and almost got hit by another car. this is eventually going to cause great harm or even death to someone.
I purchased this vehicle, 2008 ford edge sel awd november 2014 with approximately 82,000 miles on it. last night when driving home in very slow traffic 5 to 10 mph due to snow on the highway when traffic picked up speed i couldn't accelerate as the rpm picked up but the transmission wouldn't shift out of low. my ford edge acted like it wouldn't shift up from low so i could keep up with traffic. i had to pull over on the shoulder not knowing what to do next. i turned the engine off and restarted and it accelerated fine so i could keep up with the major traffic flow. and i did notice recently it does make a clunk when i shift into reverse. major safety issue here as not being able to get out of traffic quickly and safely and having to pull over on the shoulder to turn the engine off and restart if there even is a shoulder to pull over too could be a danger to myself and others.
2008 ford edge sel....with 6f50 transmission....165000 miles.... vehicle shifts externally hard from 3rd to 4th gear with a hard jerk and load klunk, so much so that it has started causing me neck problems from tensing up in anticipation of the jerk. also 2 twice up going from park to drive, had an extremly load noise in transmission that shook the entire vehicle and as i attempted to accelerate the rpm rose but the car barely eased forward and the transmission sounded as though it were in a bind. i then put it in park, turned the ignition off, pulled out the key, open and shut the door as to pretend i was exiting, then put key back into ignition, started the car, put it in gear (no problem) and accelerated as normal (no problem), except when it shifted from 3rd to 4th which is around 25mph. i have not and do not have any lights on in the instrument display panel nor do i have any error codes showing. macanic says it would be an expensive shot in the dark to start randomly changing out sensors and changing out transmission would not solve the problem as it is not an issue with the mechanics of the transmission but an electrical issue. i've also tried a hard reboot to the cars electrical system to possibly clear any stored electrical issues, problem still exists!!! definitely a recall needed, due to safety issues while driving and physical conditions that could arise from the tensing up in expectation of the hard jerk......
While driving down the freeway at approx 75 mph for 1 hour, vehicle suddlenly stopped accelerating, odo went blank, speedo zero, airbag and powertrain lights came on. i cut across 6 lanes of very heavy traffic to exit and struggled to get up the incline. parked at the nearest lot and shut off the engine. restarted with a loud clunk and dash was ok except powertrain light was still on. put in reverse and felt a violent clunk. drove to a nearby ford dealership where they diagnosed bad turbine shaft speed and output shaft speed sensors. they performed the repairs at my cost of $856.91. i picked up the car and drove it 80 miles back home 2 days later with no problems. today, 6 days later, i am experiencing extremely rough shifting, especially at around 40 and 60 mph and very bad hesitation where the entire vehicle vibrates and does not seem to know what gear to be in. not only is this vehicle dangerous and defective, the expensive repairs are not correcting the problem and have made it worse.
Same problems as all the other ones. on the expressway and odo light comes on along with a few others and car seems like it stuck in a higher gear and won't excels rate quickly, loud clunk from trans when shifted in and out of gear. usually have to turn off car and restart a few times to come back to normal. it's obvious that ford has an issue and i'm not taking it to the dealer and spend thousands of dollars for repairs that won't solve the issue. altimately it sounds like a software issue and ford won't recall till most of the vehicles are out of service as to save money. i have been a loyal ford driver for years but this is definitely turning me to the competition.
I was driving on highway when car would not go, hit the gas but car did not move. put into reverse and sounded like the transmission was going to drop, loud clunk. fortunate to come upon a red light so cars were not moving fast to hit me or kill me! this happened another time in new jersey! yikes!! and i had to pull over, shut the car off and then restart car. i immediately took car to dealer and they did not know what it was unless message was on control panel, i went on internet to see if i could find out any info for the problem. i did find a great many complaints from other people saying they had the same issues. i need to know who is responsible before i get killed. is anything being done to resolve this problem and who will correct it? please advise.
Sudden and substantial leak under car. some irregular gear issues when in motion on highway and then on a subsequent county road. mechanic said the ptu needed repair, to take to dealer. fortunately, no major safety issues yet, and i'm not waiting for any. dealer said to take care of it asap, but can't get me in for a week. obviously not as serious episode as these others i'm reading, but i'm not driving it for a week to avoid a dangerous situation. i don't understand why there hasn't been a recall to avoid a tragedy and a definite lawsuit! i'm being as proactive as i can to avoid a danger, but the cost at the ford dealer is estimated at about $1700. if there is a recall after my car is fixed, will there be compensation to me? absolutely absurd situation!
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while stopped at a stop sign, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate without warning. the engine revved and the rpms increased. when the gear was shifted into the park position, the vehicle lunged forward. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Clanking between gears at low speeds, on and off. the problem aould stop every time i brought it to ford.. finally it got so bad one day it was just clanking between all gears, sounded like some one was smasing the under carriage with a sledge hammer. i thought the transmission went. ford said it would be 1-2 month wait on part. they showed me 3 other ford edges sitting i n the shop with same problem. my extended warranty company found the part ( rebuilt one i believe) about 3 months later them same problem has started but less often. everytime i bring it to fors the problem stops and i cant get it to do it when i want. so now the warranty is up... looks like i have to wait for the part to fail again and than im in the whole 1-$2,000 !! how can ford not recall this with so many problems?
Stopped at red light- whe i tried to accelerate the car would not move- it was terrifying!! cars had to go around- was able after at least ten attempts to get the car to move to side of road. waited and called family member for help. was fortunately about 5 blocks form my home. car continued to jerk forward and had to stop seevral times. it is now in my garage and awaiting a tow truck, this has been an ongoing issue with the vehicle not specifically not going but troubles with car suring repeatedly for no reason and had to replace battery 4 times and there was nothing i did to create this loss of battery. the dealership where it was fixed previously stated that " the car appears possessed". this is somehting that has apparently been a long term known issue with this vehicle. why has it not been fully investigated. please do something before someone is seriously hurt or worse.

Auto transmission will not shift, engine revs and no power, wrench light airbag warning lights, dead speedo, odometer shows dashes. had trans fluid changed. no help. i have seen several problems noted on the internet. dealers are not fixing the problem by rebuilding the trans for several thousand dollars. the trans failing should not affect the various electrical problems associated with this incident. the system will reset if the engine is turned off and then restarted with nothing indicating a problem. there doesnt appear to be any codes set. i urge ford to embrace these problems before someone is hurt because the trans "jumps" out of gear and causes an accident. this reported problem should not be "news" to your complaints department. i have chosen to always prefer a ford products during my 50 years of driving and expect an honest, thorough and concise investigation be given to this problem.
While driving at 45 mph, i came to a stop light. when it was time to go, my edge would not move. i had to press the gas pedal to get to move very slowly to the side of the road. this has happen several times. also, i stopped at my garage door and when it was time to go in, my car would not move. i put it in reverse and got a loud clanking sound. i revved the motor very high to get it to slowly inch into the garage. thought it might go out the other side since the gas pedal was pressed pretty far down, made it. took it to the dealer and was told it was a throttle body problem. paid close to $1000 for repairs. less than 1200 miles my problems started again, this time i'm told i need to replace my sensors, i did ($900). now i'm back again. same problem. this time i'm told i need to have my coil assy and main control checked and repair. problem starting again. this is a safety hazard and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. could result in a injury when you are pulling into traffic.
Vehicle unexpectedly and randomly displays odo data error on instrument panel, mileage and speedometer don't function, vehicle loses all power and does not accelerate. this resets itself after turning car off, removing key, then restarting car. when are you going to force ford to issue a recall, when someone dies? there are hundreds if not thousands with same complaints. here's a sample...https://youtu.be/px3sc2ycmeo
I was driving out of town for a work meeting with an employee. only going approx 45-50 mph, all the sudden the speedometer drops to 0 along with the mileage on my car(just dashes), then the airbag light came on and a wrench light came on then few minutes later the tire pressure light. we were coming up on a red light so i slowed down and stopped. when the light turned green i pressed my gas pedal and the car went no where. i slowly moved to the side of the road and shut my car off. i was hoping to make it to the gas station 2 miles up the road. i waited a few minutes turned my car back on a very odd noise happened the speedometer was back on and the lights were gone, i went to put the car in d and the odd noise again, pushed the gas to accelerate and nothing. currently my car is on the side of the road waiting a tow 1 hour away from home. i'm lucky my children were not with me when this occurred, it could have been very dangerous. this was my first experience with this, not only dangerous but very embarrassing with an employee in my car as well.
