AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 17 TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE) 2 AXLE ASSEMBLY 1

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2007 Ford Edge

We noticed an oil like substance leaking from underneath the front end of the car. we took it to a ford dealership and they told us it was the transfer case needed to be replaced. not only is it a $1500 repair but it is a common problem happening to ford edge's years 2007 - 2011. sounds to me like a recall should be made on this part. we caught ours early, so not sure what could've happened if we continued to drive ours around. *tr

I was traveling on 95 north in s. carolina when my car jerked and everyone lurched forward in the vehicle as if we had traveled over a speed bump or something large in the road. it was mid day and nothing was in the road. we continued traveling and about 30 miles it happened again and we realized it was the transmission. we were fortunate to make it home and took it to our mechanic. he saw no visual signs of trouble such as leakage, warning lights or check engine lights even during the test drive so he did an internet search and found that ford suggest running transmission fluid through, draining and repeating. he did this. we had to travel out of state again the next month and the same problem occurred on the highway. i'm so concerned for my family and i'm now reading on the internet that this is not just a random issue and people are pleading for a safety recall before someone is hurt or killed due to the multiple transmission issues that are affecting so many of these vehicles. we need help, what does it have to take? *tr

After 3 different seal repairs and ptu replacement(20k) during warranty period, current ptu is whining / howling between 30-50 mph. dealer say fluid has been leaking slowly and ptu full of sludge. no evidence of leakage on garage floor but under carriage in ptu area is gummed up from fluid mixing with dirt. based on mileage from repair receipts, took approx. 67k miles for this ptu to go bad. no adjustment programs at this time for ptu's as per phone call with ford customer service. *tr

While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle shuttered and there was a loss of acceleration power. the check engine warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an automotive repair shop where it was diagnosed that the 6 ignition coils, spark plugs and the pcm system needed to be replaced. the current mileage is 97395. *tr

Leaked fluid overheated transfer case. no warning other than very small drip. extended warranty will not cover damages. *tr

Stopping vehicle then taking off vehicle will not move engine just revs then a very hard shift and it moves had sensor in transmission replaced 3 times due to same problem now when cold vehicle up shifts very hard once it warmed up shifts fine

We started up our car on a sunday morning, put it in reverse, backed out of our spot, and then put the vehicle in drive. right away, we noticed the car shaking, not much power, and it was sputtering along. the check engine light was flashing as well, indicating engine misfire. the car was towed to a ford dealership. the ford dealership ran a diagnostic and determined that the pcu had overheated and the cylinder coils melted. they also said the pcu is no longer operable and needed to be replaced, along with the coils and plugs. generally, engine misfire indicates a tune-up is needed; however, in this case, the car needs a brand-new computer. the dealership quoted us at 2,700 total for the repair. furthermore, this is a known issue with the car, as determined by ford, as it issued technical service bulletin 13-4-7, citing this model and several others as prone to this malfunction. ford should recall this model and have the issue fixed. no recalls even though this poses a fire hazard? shocking. *jb

After driving approximately 20 miles at an average speed of 45 mph i exited off a very busy highway (exit 1, rte. 93n in new hampshire). upon slowing, i felt a skip and the car became unresponsive to my attempt to accelerate to complete the exit . an odometer error appeared on my dash along with the airbag warning light and the repair wrench symbol. if i had been traveling on the open highway in the kind of traffic i was experiencing, i probably would have been in a high speed accident. after shutting down the engine for 30 minutes, i restarted my vehicle and returned home without incident. this incident occurred without warning. to date my edge has been very reliable. i have enjoyed the edge's performance; but, i am very disappointed that this problem has occurred to numerous other edge owners. i am hoping this apparent defect is resolved and a recall is initiated before someone is seriously injured. *tr

When driving the transmission shift violently from 1st into 2nd gear and when i'm driving at highway speeds and have to hit the brakes suddenly then speed back up the violent shifting happens again. there is also a shutter in the transmission while driving. *tr

Gas tank seal corroded. mechanic was inspecting car when he found that besides the transmission transfer case needed to be replaced, the gas tank was leaking gas. it appears the seal is corroded. i was told that the new tank was approximately 1500. (just the part) and about 600. in labor. i feel that this should be repaired free of charge by ford, this should not happen on a vehicle that is only 6 years old. i can only put about 5 gallons of gas in, not to exceed just under the half tank mark. also, cannot park car on anything but a level surface. *tr

Purchased a 2007 ford edge roughly about a year ago, have had no problem with the vehicle. it was my dream car since i was 18, being 24 and finally having one was a dream come true. i started experiencing a whining noise upon driving down the road one day. i proceeded to pull over thinking it was a belt. it wasn't so i continued to go down the road. bringing it to my mechanic he told me its the transfer case within the car itself. i tried calling ford because of this common defect to have it replaced. they would not assist in the replacement of their mistake. i now owe $1500. *tr

I have been experiencing very odd unexplainable events with my 2007 ford edge since fall of 2012 which has now resulted in full failure of my transmission. beginning in the fall, my edge started to give me warning messages on my electronic dash panel reading "tire pressure monitor fault", once put in reverse, the car would make a violent jerking motion and loud ugly sound. the message on the dash would then change to read "odb data error". the wrench and airbag icons would be lit. after shifting to drive, the car sounded as if it was in high gear, but it would refuse to accelerate to a fast speed. once driving, the speedometer would not register speed, it would sit at 0 mph. the digital odometer failed to display anything. as i drove, the transmission would not shift or it would seem to try to shift and then the car would make the same violent jerking motion as i experienced when i put it in reverse. if i stopped, it would be difficult to get the car moving, it wouldn't want to move/accelerate. the car would also make unexpected lunging movements while driving. the car would also on occasion suddenly stop accelerating while driving, almost as if it had automatically shifted into low gear. this happened to me several times while driving on the expressway. not safe! on monday, june 17, 2013, my transmission failed completely. unacceptable for a car my age! as i have begun to investigate this problem on the web, to my surprise, this problem is extensive. ford owners have been complaining about this for years, yet ford has failed to recognize this problem with a recall. help! this problem is costly and potentially hazardous!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated while driving approximately 73 mph there was a slight reduction in the engine power. the vehicle began to vibrate violently. there were no warning indicators illuminated at the time of failure. the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road for inspection. the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the ignition coil assembly, hla engine control module and pcm were replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 84,334. ...updated 07-24-13 *bf the consumer stated after the repairs were done, the vehicle continued to exhibit erratic irregular shifting, although not to the extent for which he brought the vehicle in.

Oil leaking from ptu unit ford wants $ 1600 to fix what seems to be a faulty (defective) system in ford edges. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving at 25 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and jerked when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. in addition, the contact smelled a burning odor and noticed fluid leaking underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the mechanic diagnosed that the transfer case seal needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000. the vin was unavailable.

Driving at low speeds the vehicle will shift very hard, feels like someone rear ending me. the transmission feels like it has a hard time getting into gear. at high speeds the same thing happens but usually on hot days. the transmission finally gave out at 75000 due to the hard slamming and had to be rebuilt. i was leaving a driveway and was unable to accelerate, putting me at risk of being hit from behind. this could have been disastrous at high speeds. at 78000 miles i am still having the same problem, i turn the vehicle on the transmission slams into r and then i cannot accelerate past 10 mph. i turn the vehicle off and restart it, and it seems like nothing every happened. this happens intermittently and the check engine lights come one only every once in a while it is happening. worried about me and my babies safety while driving. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the shifter vibrated abnormally. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test, which determined that there was a leaking trans-axle. the vehicle was not repaired because the part needed to complete the work was on back order. the failure mileage was 99,847. updated 11/13/13*lj

Ford dealer replaced ptu (power take off unit) on my awd ford edge after 3 other incident of leaking oil. this ptu leaking problem has been documented previously 07-16-10 http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/769-2007-ford-edge-technical-service-bulletins-tsb/. other previous oil leaking problems occurred when vehicle had 10,000, 15,000 and 20,000 miles. safety concern is car catching fire when oil leaking. dealer charge me $500.00 even though repairs should have been done during the warranty period. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that a burning plastic odor was emitted from under the hood area. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the power train control module (pcm) was causing the coils that lead to the transmission to overheat and catch on fire. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileages were 115,000.

When we drove our edge at about 40 mph it would make a growling sound, just put on new tires so thought they were the problem, decided that wasn't it, looked in the owners manual saw that it had a power transfer unit that held fluid checked that, it was empty, filled it, the noise didn't go away, it got worse. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where we bought it new. they called said the ptu was worn out needed replaced. said it will cost over $1000. when i found the problem i did an online search and found many reports on ptu failures. in your data base i've found a great number also. who determines what is bad enough for a recall. *tr

I had pulled into my driveway, turned off my car, grabbed something from my house and then turned my car back on. i put my car into reverse and then put it in drive. my car acted like it was in neutral and would not accelerate and the engine revved. i didn't think much of it until it happened again about 3-4 weeks later after i had just pumped gas into my car. i then took it to the ford dealership where i paid $100 for them to tell me they could not duplicate the problem and did not find anything wrong with the transmission or computer system. they said 'maybe it was a computer glitch'. since then it has happened 6 more time, one of which was on a busy street which almost caused an accident. my power train warranty will end in september and i need to have this issue resolved before in order for it to be fully covered. i have read multiple reports on nhtsa of this same issue. how can we resolve this?? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that she started the ignition and shifted into drive however, the vehicle did not respond. after several attempts, the vehicle operated normally. later in the day while the contact was attempting to accelerate, the vehicle was extremely hesitant to respond. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem. the vehicle was then taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing but to no avail. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem and informed the contact that there was not a recall related to the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000. updated 12/31/12 *bf updated 01/03/13*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25-30 mph, she would hear a loud noise as the vehicle would become hesitant when trying to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis. the dealer advised that the power transfer unit failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired for the power transfer unit. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure and current mileages were approximately 62,300. the vin was not available.

My 2007 ford edge had been having what people refer to as a slipped transmission. at first it would not accelerate, and it would only go in reverse not forward. i turned it off and on twice and then it seemed to operate normally. i took it into the dealership the next day and i was first told there was no issue, then it happened again, this time it would also do a violent jerk as if i'd been rear-ended. the service dept replaced the computer chip (not sure which one but something to do with the transmission). a couple of weeks later it again failed to accelerate but this time it would not restart without a loud grinding noise. after towing it to the dealership, the transmission was completely replaced. however it has since started doing the exact same thing, bumping as if the car had been rear-ended as the car is in motion, in various circumstances. there are numerous complaints about the same issue on different forums. please see http://www.fordforum.com/forum/ford-edge-73/edge-transmission-problems-7525/ and http://www.myfordedge.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=553 i have already filed a complaint with ford customer relations but they gave the impression that i was the only person with this problem, further my complaint would be sent to ford marketing but not engineering, which i find counterintuitive. the above forums are filled with ford edge owners who also feel unsafe in this vehicle. i hope if enough of us register our complaints an investigation will be initiated before there are serious injuries as a result of this faulty car. *tr

I took my ford edge in for the first time in january 2012 with these issues: while driving the vehicle it would shift extremely hard, it felt as if my car had been rear ended, numerous times the wrench light would come on and the vehicle would become sluggish, when i pressed on the gas the vehicle would not move forward. there was also a high pitched whine when the car was in reverse. i took the vehicle to my local ford dealership, they said they could not find the problem, after researching myself on the internet i told them about the many other complaints i read on the edge transmission and to check the turbine shaft speed sensor. they then replaced it at no charge because i was still under factory warranty. for 8 months i went without incident until september 2012, same problem only worse, i managed to inch my way off the highway. when in drive and pressing on the gas the car would hardly move, when shifting into park/drive the transmission would make a horrendous clunking sound. so here i am back at the dealership no longer under factory warranty and having the exact same problem they supposedly fixed. i am fortunate i was not rear ended when my car came to a halt in traffic and i am grateful i was able to get to safety. i am furious to read page after page of complaints on the very topic and yet ford looks at me like they have never heard of the transmission problems plaguing their customers! why this is not a ford recall i do not know, but i feel thoroughly duped by ford motors. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph uphill, the vehicle stalled. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, who stated that they could not diagnose to the vehicle due to a faulty trans-axle. the failure mileage was 99843. updated 11/12/13*cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that the shift lever became stuck in the park position. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 69,000.

When i accelerate from a stop my transmissions violent shifts between 1st to 2nd and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd. it does not do this all the time only 2 or 3 times per week for as long as i am driving it. i have taken my vehicle to lumberton ford concerning this and they stated it did not throw any codes. tech could not replicate the problem (duh) so hey advised me to bring it back when it was actively doing it. most of the times its after hours or while i am in route in the opposite direction or going somewhere. most people just don't cruise around during the week. i took my truck into today when i found ford tsb 7 5 2 and provided it to the dealership but they swear that is not the problem. first when i spoke to the guy couple days ago he couldn't even pull it up on his system then he said the tech adamantly denied this was the problem. this is what tsb 7 5 2 states - dtc p0771, p0774 and / or starts in 4th gear from a stop, harsh 4-1 downshift on drive away at 3 mph. 6f50 transaxle built prior to 01-10-07. *kb it sounds just like it to me. he is expecting it throw a code but it clearly states that and/or. i am fairley mechanically inclined and i know that i have read numerous complaints regarding this and i don't understand what the deal is with ford or the nhtsb in not demanding a recall. my power train was assembled in 11/06 and i feel ford is trying to dodge a bullet. shame on you. *tr

When starting to pull into traffic vehicle transmission engages hard and slips between 1st 2nd & 3rd. vehicle does not do this continuously. dropped it off @ dealership on 08/20/2012 and they could not replicate the problem and stated that computer did not show a code. dealership advised that i bring it back when transmission was slipping or engaging hard. *tr

While driving at 55 slowed to 35 felt hard shift in transmission, drove for several miles, pulled into driveway, stopped put edge into reverse and back to drive, wrench light lit up. engine only revved no movement forward. put vehicle in park then back to drive, engine only revved. shut vehicle off, turned back on wrench lit was out vehicle worked normally when in drive. took vehicle for drive not problems, on why home noticed rpm and heard engine rev high when in first and second gear. approximately 2 months later vehicle was at 35mph slowed to turn, hard shift down wrench light lit up, engine would only rev. took to shop got two goods for sensors however sensors showed they were fine. 3 weeks later exiting highway ramp vehicle again does shifted hard, wrench lit came on and engine revved did not move. was able to pull car to side turn off wrench lit out and car went into drive. went to shop again told turbine speed sensor was bad. i see they are numerous complaints about this and ford does not see this as a problem would like to see something done about this. *tr

Ptu unit keeps leaking. had unit replaced in 2012 and now just had to have it done again in 2015. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated while driving 20 mph, the vehicle lost power. the contact stated that it felt as if she was driving in neutral. while shifting gears, she heard a loud noise coming for under the hood. in addition, all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact was able to drive the vehicle home and once the vehicle was shut off and restarted, the vehicle resumed normal operation. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer advised that they could not diagnose a failure with the vehicle. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 36,000.

First occurrence. turned vehicle on, shifted in drive to leave parking lot. did not shift correctly, and felt as if it was in neutral. turned vehicle off, and back on. it shifted fine. took vehicle back to dealership, as we had only owned it s month and bought in april 2012. they could not find anything wrong. over time, this has happened 10-15 more times. the computer also seems to be affected by this as well. today 7/26/2013, i turned on the vehicle, left it start up, began to go into drive, it stalled, and a powertrain light came on. mileage computer dash disappeared. i turned the car off. turned it back on. when i tried to shift it, transmission was very violent. sat in the parking lot for twenty minutes. turned the car back on, let it run for 2minutes, put it in drive, and it was completely fine. when i drive up hill, it seems to be using a lot more power than necessary, and my rpms go all the way up to 5-6k. looking for a shop to have the car looked at, or at the dealership. *tr

The vehicle started performing badly and having trouble shifting, which affected acceleration and deceration in traffic. drove vehicle directly to ford dealer for service. they stated the vehicle needed to have the ptu seal replaced. i was originally told this item was backordered 2 weeks, but they can no longer give me an estimated date. they stated it could be 2 days, 2 weeks, or 2 months.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact noticed black spots on the ground under the vehicle due to fluid leaking from an unknown source. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the mechanic stated that the transfer case was fractured from overheating. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised that the replacement for the transfer case was not available because the part was on a national backorder. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fluid. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the dealer diagnosed a leak at the power transfer unit. the vehicle was not repaired because the transfer case was on back order. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileages were approximately 66,000. updated 06/05/12*lj updated 06/06/12*js

2007 ford edge. consumer states ptu unit broke at 85, 0000 miles *tgw the consumer stated there was a grinding noise emitting from the vehicle and it barely made it into the garage. the consumer was informed that ford didn't have a supplier to make the part. on april 25, 2012, the consumer received a call stating the part would be manufactured in late may. *jb

The ptu (power take off unit) on my awd ford edge is leaking and needs to be replaced- per the dealership- it smells and the transmission clunks/ makes noise. these are all known issues to ford and they refuse to fix the issues. the foam seal between my windshield and dash board is coming out of the gap and causing visibility issues as it is distracting- another ford known issue with multiple tsb's and they refuse to help without me paying out of pocket for their issues. *tr

My 2007 ford edge, began having problems with the transmission november 2011. while driving, pulling onto very busy highway, edge slipped into neutral. numerous vehicles had to suddenly stop to prevent from crashing into me. needless to say i was extremely upset, but also very thankful no one was injured. now the problem begins. notified chapman ford about this problem was told to bring in edge. explained to service edge slipped into neutral, engine light came on along with wrench light. after pulling off to side of road still could not get car to move. i then turned car off for a minute or so, started up the car and it was fine. after a few days i received a call telling me it was the throttle body and would cost 674.00 dollars since this was not covered under warranty. so, throttle body was replaced. now my edge began having the exact same problem 1 month ago, was told now it was the transmission! problem is warranty expired 1 month ago. tired to explain had the problem been corrected the first time, transmission would have still been under warranty. spoke with numerous people including ford, to be told the same thing "we can't help sorry your warranty expired". i am now driving my edge with fear this can happen at any time. it gives no warning what so ever, by the way my edge only has 28,000 miles and is very well maintained. i have seen many complaints about this problem, and ford does not seen to want to address the problem. hopefully, no one will get seriously hurt and ford will stand by there edge! thank you for your time, i hope this is helpful for others and this safety problem can be resolved. *tr

The wrench light came and i could not accelerate. i called a dealership and they told me that it was possibly a problem with transmission and that i should turn the car off and turn it on again which i did. i was able to drive it to the dealership. they replaced a sensor it approximately, 1 year after this incidence, the wrench light came on while i was driving around 55-60 mph. i stopped at a light and could not accelerate. other cars were bearing down on me as the light turned green. finally got the car to move and drove it home, but every light i got to it was harder to accelerate. finally reached home, and put it in reverse, it felt like i had been rear ended by a truck. so needless to say, ford only authorized the dealer to replace the same sensor. i will pick up my car today, they replaced the same sensor with a guarantee that it will last for 12 months or 12, 000 miles. i fear for my safety and my family while driving this vehicle. *tr

There are three main issues with my 2007 ford edge. first the brakes make noises and sometimes work and sometimes don't. the tires kept going flat. i have replaced all 4 four tires and one front and one back tire twice now. the transmission slips frequently. *tr

Ok, enough is enough. i have a 2007 ford edge and it is having hard engagement issues when shifting gears. also, a couple of times i have been ready to pull out into traffic and it's as if my car is sitting in neutral. i have to put the car in park, turn it off, start and put back into drive for it to start going again. very unsafe and worries me driving my kids around in the car with these problems. i have taken my car to the dealership on a couple of occasions with these problems and was told that the diagnostic test was not "throwing a code" so basically there is not a fix. they do however acknowledge that there are a lot of these complaints and a definite issue but they could do nothing unless a recall was done. it's getting worse and the other day i took somewhere else and was told ford has an update now to help some of the issues pcm update to the computer. guess what...it didn't help mine and they said i for sure now have some transmission problems due to the hard shifting problems i have been experiencing. well, no kidding! ok, when you have your dealerships telling you they know there is a problem but they can't do anything about it, that's just crazy. we need for there to be some awareness and action to these problems. *tr

2007 ford edge will roll backward when on the slightest incline while vehicle is in drive. the vehicle will not stop rolling until the brake is depressed or it settles on flat ground. it also does this in reverse and you are pointed downhill. i recently was parked in a downhill position, released the park brake, placed the vehicle in reverse and had to slam on the brakes to stop the edge from slamming into a car in front of me. the edge started to quickly go downhill and i had to accelerate quickly to go in reverse and miss the other vehicle. this problems seems to getting worse as the mileage builds. i currently have 72,000 miles on the edge. i took this vehicle to greenwood ford in bowling green, ky and was told that this was normal and that there was nothing they could do. their service manager took me for a drive in a 2010 edge and it did the same thing. i called ford customer relations and was told that they had never heard this complaint before. this is a severe safety issue and needs to be corrected. *tr

own a 2007 edge se , purchased new on august 2008. last year i took the car to dealer for transmission issue and they recommend to replace the transmission fluid as a regular maintenance, but just recently noticed that the 4th gear have strong engage issue."sheehy ford" dealership in springfield va is not doing anything to fix this problem. now my warranty expired and the dealer wants to charge me $150-200 to diagnostic the problem. *tr

2007 ford edge. consumer writes in regards to a defective ptu assembly in vehicle. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle was taken to the dealer for service, for an oil leak at the ptu vent, the entire ptu assembly should have been replaced. at the time of service, the vehicle had 54,708 miles and it was still under warranty. on march 23, 2013, the vehicle was taken to the dealer and a diagnosis revealed a damaged ptu assembly.

I purchased a 2007 ford edge one month ago. the car has been in the shop 3 out of 4 weekends.the car was in drive and was stopped at a stop sign after trying to take off the car wouldn't move. i brought the car to the ford dealership in maitland and was told that nothing was wrong with the car. the same thing happened 1 week later and i am now being told that it is an engine sensor that is the problem. looks like ford in maitland likes to make things up. *tr

The speedometer went to zero and all the mileage information went blank. the front airbag light, service wrench and shortly there after the tire pressure monitor light came on. i exited the freeway and after stopping for the traffic light the vehicle would not accelerate, but moved slowly apparently stuck in the high gears. the vehicle would not shift up or down. the next stop light the same problem. i parked in a parking lot and recycled the ignition and the mileage information returned. however when i put the vehicle into reverse the transmission began to clunk violently! i then switched to drive and again it clunked violently! i recycled the ignition again and put it into reverse again clunking violently. i again recycled the ignition and put into reverse the vehicle trans clunked moving backwards. i then pulled forward shifting to drive again with a clunk the vehicle moved forward as if still in higher gears. i drove across the parking lot to about 30 mph and braked to a stop it down shifted hard. after that the trans worked to get us home, however the cruise control would not light up on the dash or would not function period. i have taken it to hemborg ford in norco, ca to check with 59,175 miles on the vehicle. just two weeks earlier the right rear axle bearing was wining and ford replaced the bearing

Bought the car used from a ford dealer with 46,138 miles and purchased an extend warranty 07/17/2010 in dec 2010 noticed a smell from car , took it to a local repair shop, he printed me out the ford tsb 09-25-7 that identified the problem with the right hand int shaft leak on the power transfer unit (ptu) i took to a local ford dealership, they confirmed the problem and fixed, under the original car warranty.(55,799 miles) in aug 2012 noticed the same smell, went an other ford dealership(9-12-12), same problem with ptu seals, and not covered under the extended warranty. paid approximately $800 to repair. in may 2014 same smell again, took back to the dealer who did the last repair (6-27-14), ptu again, except this time it needed seals plus a new ptu over $1,400 to repair. the smell comes from the fluid dripping onto the exhaust, not sure how toxic or flammable it is but i know it can't be good for you. this is not caused by miss use of the car or lack of maintenance. it is ford poor design, and i realize mistakes happen, but stand behind your product. *tr

Transmission violently shifts. sometimes, it does not shift into first or second gear. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle jerked and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,000.
