Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2007 Ford Edge

Vehicle was in motion for awhile, car was running okay until i came to a stoplight and then all of a sudden my car goes limp. my vehicle makes loud/hard clank noise. loss of power, wrench light came on. pulled over, loud/hard clank sound with every gear change p-2. vehicle had displayed no issues prior to this. i am able to pull the car over, turn it off and take they key out of the ignition. then the wrench light is off when i restart the car. stays in low gear for a long time when i start to accelerate, and until vehicle eventually accelerates faster, other cars almost running into the back of my car since my car is not accelerating at a normal pace. i am greatly concerned about what appears to be a huge safety issue with this car. there are multiple complaints about the same issue to be found all over the internet. ford needs to issue a recall and fix this asap before someone gets seriously hurt or is killed from the extreme loss of power the vehicle is suffering from when this occurs!

The wrench light and airbag lights were on. my speedometer wasn't working. transmission was clunking. the powertrain (wrench) & service engine signals come on after experiencing loss of speed such as after a traffic light stop. we have to push down far on the gas pedal just to move and this is followed by rough shifting (makes a sudden jerk and loud thud sound). everything goes back to normal for awhile when the vehicle is turned off; its like the car resets itself.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds without warning the cabin air vents fill up with an abnormal smoke odor. the contact pulled the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway, opened the windows to eliminate smoke odor. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission seal leaked and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred several times. the dealer (berglund ford, 834 e main st, salem, va 24153 (540) 389-7291) was contacted about the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not subjected to any recalls. the manufacturer was made ware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Ford states that the ptu has a lifetime oil and does not need changed yet the unit is located so close to exhaust that the oil turns to sludge, there is no plug to check fluid conditions there is no way to flush and or refill. the only solution is to replace the ptu but how do you know how much damage to the transmission was caused? no one knows because its supposedly a lifetime oil and the dangerous heating conditions of the placement of the ptu heats the oil useless and the causes damage to the transmission. depending on the amount of damage assessed upon removal, you may need to replace the entire transmission. i do not have any documentation attached because i have poured so much money into trying to isolate and diagnose i now cant afford to have this very expensive problem fixed. this has a poor design and should be replaced by the manufacture.

Lost power while driving at 65 mph. speedometer stopped working, warning lights -picture of wrench light, tire pressure came on. said data ------ failure. it was terrifying. made it to a parking lot. turned off care & let it sit a few minutes. restarted and it was back to normal. my research on line says it's the powertrain module. lots of complaints for the same issue with ford 2007 edge - should have been a recall. i have 96,000 miles on it and it's well maintained.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle lost power. the vehicle was restarted and began bucking. in addition, the check engine indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the number three coil pack was damaged and the powertrain control module needed to be repaired. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 84,500.

Transmission shudders between 5th and 6th gear. only one previous owner. owned vehicle less than one year. became increasingly worrisome very fast.

While stopped when going to accelerate the transmission feels like it's not working the vehicle wraps the speedometer the mile which doesn't work speed doesn't work airbag lights are on wrench light is on tire light is on rpm stay at 2k the vehicle will barely move.

2007 ford edge. history: regular scheduled maintenance performed always, garage kept, taken well care of. mileage at this time is 145k. ***driving along (in town) when i noticed the edge was idling really low (note: 2 weeks after scheduled oil change, inspection and new battery)-all of a sudden heard this terrible clanking noise. it sounded like the whole car was falling apart. i pulled over in to a parking lot, shut the car off. tried to crank it again and it wouldn't crank-finally did after several tries (still making this terrible sound). **no warning lights, no fluctuating in gages---nothing. we had the edge towed to our ford dealership and were told the water pump went bad and the engine was destroyed. our oil was full of water/coolant--it looked like muddy water. what? how? no warning, no signs? after much research we are finding that the water pump is inside the engine, therefore if the water pump "goes" there are no external signs of leakage---it's kindly leaking in to your engine and destroying it. this literally happened in a matter of minutes. yes, this is safety issue--it left me stranded and now i'm without a vehicle for another week or so while a new engine is being ordered an installed. i can't believe ford hasn't addressed this "design" issue with all the complaints i've read thus far. this deserves a recall and at the very least it deserves ford's attention to be redesigned. research also shows this is not just a ford edge problem---it's other ford makes as well. this is now an $8000 "fix". please have this looked in to on the consumer's behalf.

Driving car on city streets and all of sudden the wrench light, low tire light and airbag light came on then the became sluggish as if it was going to cut off. the car was hard to pull to the side of the road. the it makes a hard thug/grinding noise when putting in gear. ford states it needs a oss (output speed sensor).

We have a 2007 ford edge my wife was driving on the freeway, she was approaching her exit when the vehicle shut off completely. thank god she could pull over and after several attempts to start the car again, she succeeded. this happened about 6 months ago. about 3 or 4 months later, she was pulling into a parking lot of a store when the vehicle shut off again without a warning. she got stuck in the middle of the lane blocking all traffic. a few minutes later it started again seemingly without any problem. until two weeks ago, she was driving down the street and the car shut off for the third time. and for the last week, the car has problems starting. it cranks for a few seconds like it has no fuel then starts. today's date 9/3/2018

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving various speeds, the vehicle hard shifted. the contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward while stationary and suffered a loss of power or engine stalling on more than one occasion. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the power control module and the ignition coils failed and caused a cylinder misfire. in addition, the ignition coils melted. the failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

Takata recall. it's been almost 2 years that we have been trying to get the airbag parts and no replacement. this is our only vehicle and it is a great inconvenience. we need a loaner car until the parts are available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced severe vibration and hesitation. the contact also noticed that coils were melted in the engine compartment. the vehicle was taken to pittsville ford (34690 old ocean city road, pittsville, md) where it was diagnosed that the pcm was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

My wife was driving with our two children on our road (a busy one) and the engine just stopped. she had to pull over with cars zooming by her and shut off the car and turned it back on. engine light was flashing, go to find out the coils and pcm just went out. looked online and a lot of people have the same problem.

Dash lights all day on, speed odometer quit and car wouldn't accelerate. going down the highway at 65 miles an hour. gears grinding when trying the put in drive. powertrain wrench light will never t go off. all this and still owe $6000 on car at 90000 miles.

You leaking, had to have replaced at my expense. was discovered during oil change. have seen numerous reports of this issue on ford forums. should this be a recall since affecting so many vehicles.

When driving on a highway in heavy rain this occurs (3 times now) odometer display changes to: odo data error message the odometer shows only dashed lines for milage the speedometer goes to zero the seat belt light goes on a wrench light appears after a few miles: the tire pressure signal sounds and the display changes to tire pressure monitor failure after stopping: if attempt to go forward, high revs slow speed turn off engine: wait 2 minutes: restart engine display corrects itself high revs with low speed a loud clang and the car takes off quickly, due to high revs

Takata recall, torque converter sputtering between 40-60

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while the vehicle was stationary, the stock transfer case on the vehicle wore out. due to the transfer case wearing out, which sent power from the transmission to the four wheels, the vehicle made a loud grinding noise when driven at various speeds. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.

Ford dealer has my 2007 ford edge due to it stalling out while driving 60 mph on a highway causing my engine to die so i had to get towed home and off of the highway. the dealer originally thought it was the electronic throttle body but they have now determined that was not the problem. instead it is the pcm which is costing me over $1500, if that even fixes this. plus i have been paying for a rental car because the dealers don't have free loaner vehicles. so this whole thing is going to cost me about $2000. now i have been researching this problem, and can clearly tell this is not normal wear and tear instead it is a faulty part that so many other owners are experiencing. i clearly see ford has been made aware of this problem and they should be taking responsibility for their mistake. ford has refused to issue a recall on this problem even though it is very dangerous and costly for the vehicle owner. i have never owned a ford before and likely will not again because of this bad experience.

I was exiting the freeway, slowing down on the ramp, and i lost complete loss of acceleration as i came to a stop at the light. up on green signal, even with pushing of the gas pedal, my car did not accelerate. and in a few seconds, the transmission engaged violently with a huge noise and led to sudden acceleration, followed by loss of acceleration again. i tried pushing the pedal one more time but realized that there was no acceleration. i then stopped and got my vehicle towed to a ford dealership and their finding is that the transmission needs to be replaced completely.

Persistent smell when driving and then found dark "oil" spots that spread throughout under side of the vehicle and on my garage floor after being parked. brought to ford dealership: ptu failure is what we are being told. very costly repair/replacement charge of ptu assembly, approximately $1500. i'm putting in this complaint because i have seen many, many complaints of other people experiencing similar issue with this make, model and year. please consider investigating, and if this happened to someone else please put in your complaint so it will go to investigation, thank you! *tr

I was driving down the interstate when i suddenly lost power. i managed to somehow get my car off the road and exit the highway (i was just about to the exit when this happened). it was looked at by a ford dealer who said the pcm died and took out at least three coil packs. told me if i drove it any further it would likely catch fire. up to this point i hadn't had any problems with this car. it was running fine. this all happened so quickly and in such a dangerous location that it could have caused an accident. upon researching places to fix the issue, i noticed a rather large amount of complaints about this same issue and this same make model and car year. each complaint said this happened on the freeway. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that the transmission failed while driving approximately 45 mph. the vehicle emitted a loud noise under the hood and the wringer and air bag warning indicators illuminated. the contact was able to coast the vehicle onto the road shoulder the vehicle was restarted and returned to normal. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 116,000. updated 02/21/17*lj

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while operating the vehicle, a burning chemical odor was present and a grinding noise was heard coming from the engine. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power transfer case was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 97,000.

When driving the car gear will slip into neutral and the vehicle will not accelerate, even when pressing on the gas. there is a "clunk" when moving the transmission from park into drive and the vehicle will not move.

No one has parts to fix the recall for the airbag. i've been waiting for more than a year to have the problem fixed. my transmission shudders at 40 miles per hour and 75 miles per hour. the problem started 10 months ago and seems to be worse. i've looked online and this seems to be the major complaint with these vehicles. there should be a recall on this issue to fix the problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while the vehicle was being remedied per an unknown recall, the dealer observed that the ptu valve was fractured and leaking fluid. the vehicle was diagnosed, but not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they do not take complaints. the contact was advised to call nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle lost power and was towed to an independent mechanic. it was diagnosed that the ignition coil needed to be replaced due to being overheated by the pcm computer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 37,700. updated 10/28/16*lj

During left turns engine rpm's drop and brake pedal softens and fluctuates. city streets .. left turns

Defective power control module on ford from these years causes engine to stall, run poorly and cause electrical problems affecting the steering, brakes and transmission. this extremely common ford defect can create a potentially deadly vehicle control failure at highway speed.

2014 my 2007 ford edge jerked and reduced in speed while trying to go uphill in morning rush hour traffic less than 25 mph. i pulled to the shoulder turned the vehicle off then back on & it was good for the remainder of the day- this happened more than once so i took my vehicle to my authorized mechanic (of over 17 years) within a week of that incident & they replaced some component associated with the transmission. the car worked fine for a little over 18 months. 2016 it has happened again with the same issue same as before in morning rush hour traffic except with the jerk & auto deacceleration there was a loud *bump as if someone rear-ended me. i pulled off to the shoulder turned off the vehicle then back on & it did fine for about 5 minutes then it happened a 2nd time so again i pull off to the shoulder turn off the vehicle then back on & it is fine-almost as if the vehicle resets when your turn it off then back on. i took the car to my mechanic, the owner is who usually diagnosis my car is on vacation out of the country--ugh. after explaining the incident one mechanic test drives it for a couple mins then says the transmission is no good and needs to be replaced. considering this vehicle is garaged, & very well maintained on a regular basis i opted for a second opinion, especially since there is no check engine lights, odor, smoke, leakage or anything that indicates something is wrong with the transmissmisaion. just the jerk with deacceleration & maybe hesitation when trying to accelerate during this incident. the second shop's diagnostics came back showing no issues with the transmission nothing. to you ford i say i've watched youtube videos & read similar complaints, obviously a recall is needed, please watch youtube and do more research regarding your product that is affecting your customer base.

Power train issue while driving on interstate 55mph vehicle suddenly decreased in speed without warning. wrench came on and car hesistated to pick up speed again, fortunately car behind me didnt ra. tried to accelerate but couldnt. just hit 90,000 mileage. was not notified of a pt recall. took car in for diagnosis and informed power train fault to lower acceration issue call dealership. same failure listed for recall. car also started to vibrate and now the wrench light comes and goes randomly, shifting goes in and out randomly as well. i have a copy of my diagnosis from mechanic shop, no ability to upload it. i can fax it.

Same complaint as everyone else regarding wrench, low accerleration, vibration, shift, hesistation all of a sudden and all being random in and out. i file a complaint but not seeing it listed therefore briefly restating. all of this while driving.i have diagnosic from mechanic available. recall needed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving below 2,000 rpms, the steering was uncontrollable and the check engine light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power train module needed to be replaced. the repair was not made. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 102,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle lunged forward and hesitated to accelerate. in addition, while making a left turn, the traction light illuminated without warning. the vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the dealer could not diagnose the issue. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 92,000. updated 09/22/16*lj *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle hesitated and vibrated violently. the vehicle was driven back to the contact's residence where the engine was turned off. after restarting the vehicle, the failure recurred a few moments later. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that certain engine cylinders misfired and multiple engine coils overheated. there were no flames visible. as a result, the entire power train circuit board had burned out. the vehicle was being repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 113,000. the vin was unavailable.

2007 ford edge has ptu leak, the transmission is not shifting properly, the brake light bulbs are constantly blowing and melting in the socket. the brakes sound like they are grinding metal and the cd player decided to quit working too. i have read online of others having all of these exact same problems. the ptu and transmission problems should not be something that the owner should have to pay to have corrected when it is clearly a design flaw from the manufacturer. i am a single mother and still making payments on this car and cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars to have their design flaw repaired!! when in motion the transmission acts as though it doesn't know when to shift. it kind of feels like i am in a manual and haven't changed gears when i am supposed to and if i don't push the clutch in it will stall out. but instead this is an automatic behaving that way and instead of a clutch i have to give it more gas to get it to downshift or it acts like it is going to stall. this is a problem going 20 or below as well as 55 or above, it also feels like the driveshaft is vibrating the whole car when it does this. it started out being intermittent but now it is a daily occurrence, but it is all i have to drive to work so i deal with it. it needs to be recalled!!

The transmission is slipping at times where it won't move and surging at times where you have poor control over the vehicle. this just started at 88,420 miles when my wife was coming home from the store. the maintenance is up to date on the entire driveline of this vehicle.

While driving on a freeway suddenly a pungent smell filled the cabin and that was unbearable along with a huge cracking sound that didn't stop... took the next exit and stopped at a parking spot. took to the ford dealer the same day and they diagnosed immediately that the ptu needs to be replaced and that's a know issue where almost all the ford edges of 2007 and 08 have the ptu issue. the smell is from the oil that leaked from the ptu which fell on the exhaust. paid around $1800 to replace the ptu. i am wondering why there is no recall as it seem to happen for most of the edges. called the ford corporate customer care to report the issue and they didn't care to listen and asked to deal with the local dealers. didn't expect this from ford and i would request nhtsa odi team to look into this issue and flag this as recall as this could create a serious crash when it happens on a freeway as it could slow down the vehicle suddenly and think about the condition of the infants who could inhale the gases. i literally had issue inhaling for next couple of days as the smell was that bad when it leaked. *tr

My 2007 edge started to emit a foul smell every time i stepped on the brakes. it would smell like something was burning and a couple of times i pulled off the road to double check and make sure that the car was not on fire. i took the car into a ford dealer to have the fuel tank recall competed since they finally came in and they noticed a leak in the ptu and that it would need to be replaced and would cost over $1350 to be replaced and installed. the part alone is over $800. ford has had at least 3 service bulletin for this issue and still refuses to take responsibility for fixing this safety issue.

One morning my ford started running rough.a rough idol. shaking in the body. the check engine light started blinking. i took it to a mechanic that morning to check the computer. the mechanic stated it read as a bank one miss fire.i replaced the bank one coil and spark plug from the mechanic. the car still drove rough.i was on my way to the the dealer the next day, three or four miles away ,when the car shut down on the highway between two busy exits. i lost power and control of the vehicle. thanks to the state police, i was pushed to a safer location.i was towed to the dealer from there.i wasn't told the power-train module needed replacement until after all the coils and spark plugs were replaced two days later.

Transaxle not holding vehicle stationary when stopped on a hill in drive without service brake applied. the vehicle will backward (won't hold).

While driving on a city street and on a state road transmission will act and sound like it is slipping or not engaging in gear and sometimes will only work in reverse.when problem occurs vehicle will lose all power and engine will rev up but vehicle will not move. i have had it towed to dealer and have taken it in to dealer, they say they cannot duplicate the the problem. they also told me that when it happens i need to pull over somewhere safe and shut the car off and let the "computer/ sensors " reset and that will "take care" of the problem. the problem is getting progressively worse as time goes on. i am afraid if this happens in traffic someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed as there is no power to get off the road and out of traffic

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that the transmission failed. the vehicle jerked and leaked transmission fluid. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection. the mechanic stated that the transmission assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 107,000.

At 60,000 miles transmission slipping. at 92,000 miles not engaging between 3rd and 4th gear. cost to fix $3,000. at 65,000, water leaking front of on passenger side, spraying at times. also fluild leaking on ground. ford fixed. at 62,000 miles, heater went out. at 86,000 a/c went out. cost to repair $2,800. at 84,000 miles ring broke on "boot". cost to repair $350. at 91,000 miles ignition switch replaced. ckeck engine stays on. vehicle "clicks" and then dies. biggest problem is when car will not start when, and when car refuses to get in gear when turning left. *js

I was traveling around 40 mph on a state highway when sputtering and vibration issues started with 2007 ford edge and check engine light came on. still drove vehicle to my mechanic which stated coil burned out and sent surge of power to the pcm. mechanic stated design of pcm wouldn't stop the firing of coil and not to drive vehicle any further or it will burn to the ground. mechanic stated only the ford dealership can install a new one and rest the car to get it running. towed vehicle to ford dealership who stated they have a tsb issued for this problem and they will need to replace the pcm and all 6 coils because they have all melted. ford dealership stated this was an on going problem due to a faulty design of the pcm that when a coil burns out (common wear and tear and $100 to $200 fix) the pcm doesn't stop firing to the coils which could cause the car to catch fire. estimate to fix the pcm and all six coils was $2,958. reason for complaint - i understand wear and tear on a vehicle, but due to a design issue in the ford/mercury/lincoln pcm, it caused extensive damage and repair to the car and potential to burn to the ground. $100 fix with proper design and now $2,958 due to pcm issue. i am requesting this issue to be reviewed for reimbursement by the manufacturer or recall issued. thanks you for your time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving at approximately 40 mph, the contact felt a loss of pressure on the accelerator pedal and the vehicle shook. the contact had the vehicle diagnosed and was informed that the power control failed and the coil melted. the mechanic stated that the vehicle was not safe to drive. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Since i purchased vehicle, will be driving and all of a sudden no power, car does not die out. it is still running, but you cannot go anywhere, wrench light comes on. it's done it at random, deal never finds issue. it is now happening every day and will throw a throttle body code, same issue as with other fords. complaints are all over the internet, dealership has told me they've seen it with almost all ford edges. it is the throttle body needing to be recalled. there is a ford tsb on other models of ford with the same exact issue. this can cause a fatal accident as the car just stops accelerating so it slows down quickly. the only resolution is to shut it off and restart it. this also clears the code so that's why it's hard to troubleshoot at the dealer. ford needs to step up and do something before someone is killed. i just don't drive on the highway any longer because i'm afraid of being rear ended at high speeds because of negligence on ford's part.
