We have classified the 117 complaints from 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
2004 dodge 1500 quad cab 22k miles. rear passenger axle end broke off causing no control of vehicle, thus the truck spins into a sign and damaged the passenger rear bed. police report says that it looked like a manufacture defect of the axle. we went on line that night and found several cases they same. i contacted chrysler and they had an investigator come and look. after approx 5 weeks i got a letter back that says the axel broke due to impact and they were not going to pay for anything. just type in dodge axles broke and the internet has a lot of the same failures recorded by other dodge owners. this is not right someone can be killed with this fault. the wheel and brakes all just break off leaving no control. *jb
Ram 1550 with 19" tires has experience 2 successive rear-end failures. replacement parts include case, bearings and ring/pinion. failures occurred at slow speed. had they occurred at high speed and the differential locked up the vehicle would most likely roll over and injure/kill the occupants. there is anecdotal reports of such failures in internet user groups and elsewhere. i have suffered 2 failures in 2 000 miles (30 000 and 32 000 miles) and i am surprise to seee no action on this topic. *nm
Our truck has stalled aprox. 15-20 times while we are driving down the road or while making turns. it hasn't resulted in any accidents yet, but there has been many times when we are making a turn and it stalls all of a sudden while traffic is coming twoards us. i feel that we have only so much time before this causes a bad accident. our truck is a 2004 dodge ram 1500 5.7 liter hemi. i hope that there will be a recall on this matter, because i've read many other peoples complaints about this same thing. i feel very unsafe driving with my wife and my 3 year old son in the truck, not to mention the lives of the people in the other cars.
I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi. we purchased the truck on april 20, 2004 & started having the stalling problem about 2 months ago. i have since taken the truck to the dealership where it was purchased 3 times to have the problem fixed. each time the dealership has the truck 2 1/2 to 3 days. the truck does not stall while the accelerator is enacted. the rpm gauge will flutter when stopped & then it will drop & the truck will die. some days the truck will stall only once or twice & other days the truck will stall up to 20 to 30 times. the dealership has replaced the following items: fault code, p0261, replaced pcm for erractic speed sensor signal. r&r pan & replaced trans filter per star 1763 wd94 0.80. 5094274aa module-powertrain control, 5015267ac filter pkg-powertrain control, 5010884aa sealer, 5 atf bulk - +4.
While attempting to make a left turn my vehicle in drive would not go forward ie.transmission slipping, motor reving up!*ak
700 origianl miles - pin connections(1st shop i took it to said it was reading a transmisstion error, but couldn't fix it); 6000 miles-fuel pump and map sensor; 8000 miles-transmission controller. this has left me stranded, and i've had to have it towed twice.*ak
Vehicle experienced sudden engine stalling at various speeds when on the road. consumer contacted manufacturer, who was aware of the problem.*ak truck lost all power functions. it has to be completely stopped, put in park then restarted. consumer was informed by dealer it maybe 6-8 weeks before they can fix it because the manufacturer was redesigning the pcm. *bf *nm
At approximately 10,000 miles our 2004 dodge ram 1500 began pulling hard to the right. at highway speeds, the vehicle will cross 4 lanes of traffic within seconds if the driver is not pulling to the left in order to compensate for the right pull. we have had the vehicle aligned several times by different dealerships as well as at alignment shops, and the issue persists. daimler chrysler claimed the issue was tire related, and we had the tire dealer move tires around repeatedly trying to make the problem go away. we have also replaced tires with no change in the pull. recently, we noticed the pull is far worse when the vehicle has a full tank of gas, which leads me to suspect weight or weight distribution is a factor. we had steering rack and differential failure at approximately 25,000 miles. both were replaced and the problem continues to exist. also, alignment numbers go from within specification to wildly out of specification each time the truck is placed on a rack. this vehicle control issue is 100% repeatable. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated while driving under normal conditions and at any speed, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 6 occasions for this problem. the first 3 times the vehicle was inspected, the problem could not be duplicated. on the fourth time the pcm, map sensor and the ngc controller were replaced. this corrected the problem for only a short period of time. the stalling returned and the vehicle was taken back for inspection two more times however, no repairs were made. there is also a problem with the transmission, it has been overhauled 2 times and the vehicle is still having engine hesitation problems. the vehicle was taken to the dealer 5 times due to the abs. when the brakes were applied the rear end of the vehicle pulsates. no repairs were made to the abs and the manufacturer was alerted.
For christmas vacations, i went to durango, mexico. when i was driving there, i took a curve approximatly at 35 mph and i suddenly hear a loud noise on the back of the truck and i saw the left rear tire pass me by. i was able to control my truck, and there was no traffic at that time so there was no accident thank god. the rear axel broke, both wheels were out and the truck's bed was on the floor. *ak
(1)rearend differential and pinion seal leaking fluid (2)rearend almost locked up, days without transportation (3)parts replaced and new fluid, they have worked on it twice! *jb
While traveling at a high rate of speed on the highway, i wanted try out my dodge hemi power. a loud tapping noise emerged from under hood. i was so startled i slammed on the brakes and went off the road into a ditch flipping the vehicle over many times. the problem was a bad lifter + valve. *ak
Consumer was pulling out from a parking space and noticed that the rpms were going up, and the engine was making a funny noise. when he got to the road and approached the stop light the same thing happened. then, vehicle slowed down and shut down. consumer just picked the brand new vehicle up from the dealer the day before. he had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and was told that the filter in the transmission was coming apart. which meant that none of the fluid was going to the transmission. this blew out the engine.*ak the dealer replaced the transmission. *tc
Dt: consume rowned a 2004 dodge 1500 ram. sometimes it will stall while consumer was driving. once it caused the consumer to bump a brick wall. which caused a slight dent in the bumper. it has a vibration that seemed to be coming from the transmission. sometimes the vehicle will not start. the rear driver side door would not unlock. when the dealer ran a diagnostic test they said that it was not showing the codes for these problems. after five tries the dealer was able to get the door lock fixed. as for the other problems the dealer put a new computer in the vehicle. this fixed the problem for about a week, and then the problems came back. the manufacturer was the one that said to put the new computer in. *ak
The rear axle broke on this truck and i made the report on your website back in 2004 and i also contacted chrysler and they sent someone to check the truck and these guy said to me and my mother that we were lucky to be alive.i kept calling chrysler requesting a copy of the report made by this person and they have ignored me till now. this is the reason why i reported the accident to your office because the "accident report" is very clear what broke in this truck. if you look at my original complaint you will read about the loud noise coming from the drivers side an hour prior to the accident. i have been in contact with chrysler asking over and over for a copy of the report and they keep denying it, and this is what i need your office to help me obtain from them. you will see that this problem existed prior the recall on the 2005 trucks.whenever chrysler writes to me they write about "air bags" completely ignoring the request so to me is very clear they are hiding something. i know the truck was fixed and sold to someone named "pedro osaga". my insurance paid off the truck to the rental company and my mother and i incurred lots of injuries from this accident and it makes me sick that this manufacture continues to hide the truth from me. please i'm asking again to help me obtain the report made about this truck regarding the cause of the accident from chrysler. sorry i can't upload the accident report, but if you need it i will send you a copy or maybe by then i'll be able to send it via email.
While stopping at a traffic light the consumer heard a breaking sound from the rear left side, but didn't think it came from her vehicle. two hours later, the noise occurred again, but louder. the vehicle immediately started spinning in the left direction until it crashed into a ditch and hit a concrete barrier while spinning driver's door opened, and the seat connection in the middle broke. this was a bench seat. the driver's side slid forward, and the passenger's side slid backwards. when vehicle was picked up the rental store mechanic determined that the rear axle broke. *ak *sc

2004 dodge truck extra cab 1500 has problems of stalling while driving.*mr the dealer flashed the pcm but that did not keep the vehicle from stalling. while driving up a slight grade the consumer heard a clunking noise from the transmission when it went into overdrive. the dealer test drove the vehicle but could not duplicate the problem. *nm
At less than 300 miles, shifted into 4 wheel drive while doing 65 mph on the interstate. taken to dealership and was told a wire was left loose and wrapped around another part causing the problem. also complained the truck was dying while driving. also told this was a wiring problem. at 19000 the tires needed replaced and at 80000 miles the oil pressure gauge dropped to 0. *nm

mileage: 43,520 dealer performing service: vals summit dodge i have a 2004 dodge ram 1500. approximately 2 months ago i had to have both u-joints replaced due to squeaking. then today, i had to have the drive shaft replaced. the service manager informed me that the shaft was twisted and could not provide a reason for the twisting other than to explain that the drive shaft is made from a very light aluminum tube and this happens. there was no dings or damage. he also informed me that this is a very common problem with this truck and that he replaces 4-5 drive shafts per week. i was charged $108 as part of the deductible for the replacement for the drive shaft. this appears to be an obvious issue with the quality of the component. i spoke with chrysler customer service who could not assist me other than to tell me to send everything to the customer assistance center and they would see what they can do. *tr
