Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Upon returning home from a round trip of about 120 miles a large puddle of oil was located in the driveway was noticed under the rear differential of the vehicle. a large metal part had ripped a hole in the differential cover causing the oil to leak out. the metal part was still sticking out of the cover. i brought the vehicle in to a local shop and it was discovered the clip retaining the gears onto the carrier in the differential had come loose and been thrown through the cover, and all the fluid leaked out. the entire differential had to be rebuilt for almost $1,800 at my own expense. then about a year later chrysler did a recall on the same issue, but i was told my truck was not included in the recall, with no explanation. this is not acceptable and i expect to be reimbursed for my out of pocket costs, as well as having the recall done to keep from having the same thing happen again.

I was driving to work when my 2004 dodge ram 1500 started making a whining noise so i drove directly to my mechanic approx 15 mile drive. the noise got progressively worse turning to a grinding noise about two miles from the mech. when i was slowing to make my turn into the mechanic's driveway the rear axle assembly locked up and dropped the drive shaft. had i been driving at a faster rate of speed this would of been serious, possibly causing driver injury. *tr

While driving saturday, 11/23/2013, i noticed a vibration and humming noise coming from the front of my vehicle. also, when i turned the car would croak or moan. i could tell something was wrong because my brake pedal became very spongy and had to be pressed in fully in order to stop the car. i began to head home with the truck as i did not want a safety hazard where i could not stop the vehicle. i also noticed that in order to steer straight, i had to hold my steering wheel approximately 30 degrees left. upon getting the truck home i immediately saw my problem. my front passenger tire was sitting in the wheel well on an angle. large amounts of smoke were pouring out of the undercarriage, and rubber goo was leaving a trail where i drove. i jacked the car and removed the wheel, and could see even more. my wheel hub assembly was separated and broken. this caused my tire to sit on the hub crooked and lean against my control arm. the heat from this friction was so intense that it melted my cv boot, which is why i had a rubber goo trail. it also melted the abs sensor on the wheel hub itself. causing my abs to go out. the hub itself had a piece completely fallen off, as if a weld broke. the heat also warped my rotor, and cracked my brake pads in that side. luckily, i did not have any wheel separation or total failure of the braking system, causing crash or injury. i was barely able to utilize braking and drive home at about 20mph with hazards on. the wheel hub assembly has been recalled in several year dodge ram 1500s, including 2004, 2006, and others, for bearing issues. however dodge claimed it was only a faulty part in 2wd applications. now we know this is not true. i have a 4wd ram that had the hub assembly fail and a partial braking failure. i am out of room, but i have pictures of the parts broken on the car, and pictures of the removed parts as well. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that while parked, he noticed that the floor shifter had become detached. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and they stated there was not a recall for the vehicle. the failure mileage and vin were unavailable.

As i was driving down the interstate i began to hear a noise in the rear end of my ram 1500 pickup truck. i moved over to the right hand lane traveling interstate speed between 65 and 70 miles per hour when the drive shaft of the truck came loose from the rear axle of my vehicle. i contacted my father which is a mechanic and told him what had happened and he informed me that he received a letter from dodge about a warranty recall for the bolts backing off that hold the drive shaft. i pulled the drive shaft out from under the truck and put my finger into the hole where the pin fits and the nut was still there and it had backed off the pin. when i contacted the dealership and showed them a picture the service tech's response was "[xxx]" we will get it towed in and fix it. apparently he didn't realize it was an older truck but you would think that if the drive shaft was different on the newer trucks and older trucks wouldn't you be able to tell the difference? fortunately no one was hurt but i am out almost 2,000.00 bucks. i could understand if the bearings went out but dodge has a recall on this same issue and this failure put me and my family in danger. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr ...updated 01/07/15 *bf

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that while traveling 50 mph, the vehicle vibrated violently and the rear wheels seized. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 190,000. the vin was unavailable.

I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 crew cab 5.7l hemi 2wd and it continues to stall every now and then at low speeds or at a complete stop. vehicle will start right up with no problem but battery gauge takes a few seconds to rise to operating levels. transmission also feels like it wants to slip at time of stall. had engine and trans changed, battery and alternator checked out okay as well. did some research and found that a lot of incidents happen after vehicle transmission ha been serviced or transmission fluid is low; other individuals who have experienced this problem have said they had the erg valve, tps sensor, map sensor and even software. i don't know what the problem is but you end up spending hundreds of dollars trying to figure this out. i don't know why chrysler doesn't address this issue. *jb

I now having problems with rear end for the 4th time since i got this truck. i paid to have repaired first time. 3 months later it went again. dodge dealer gave hard time but they found it defective again. fixed. only a year and 1/2 later it is going again. i only put 18000 miles on this last one. i need to know what can be done to fix the rear in my ram truck. it is too expensive to pay out of my pocket. 4 times? never had that with a ford. problem is i need the truck and fixed income and can't pay dealers to keep fixing the rear. help. i need to know if there is anything i can do about this problem as it goes back to shop on july 31. the dodge people say i am out of any warranty. i can't afford a new truck either. the dates listed is close to when this last issue started. it does not reflect back when the others first started but about 2 or 3 years now since first rear went. *tr

I was driving at freeway speed, around 70 mph. suddenly, i heard a noise from the rear of the truck and i noticed my speedometer went to zero. i was still moving at the same speed. the fault code identified a failure in the speed sensor in the rear differential. i was out of warranty, so i pulled the differential cover off and found what was left of the speed sensor in the bottom of the housing. i also found pieces of what was later identified as c clips from my lsd clutch assembly. the inductive portion of the speed sensor protrudes into the differential housing and was hit by the flying pieces of c clips. the carrier bearing also had a grove cut into it by these clips as they worked their way out. i am told that if i had not caught this, it would have resulted in carrier bearing failure and lock up of my rear axle. i removed all of the metal c clip pieces and removed the remaining c clips that had not yet fallen out. i don't know if there is any connection, but my left rear leaf spring cracked in half on the lower main leaf. i had to replace the spring assembly at my cost. i now have a permanent whine at low speeds and currently have 125,000 miles on my truck. i am certainly glad that i found these metal pieces when i did! there appears to be many complaints regarding this failure in my truck model, ranging from model years 2003 through 2006 ram 1500 equipped with the 5.7 hemi. at this time, chrysler has not acknowledged the patterned failures in these rear differentials. *tr

Driving downhill on the hwy 5 going north just before grapevine at 70 mph. i heard a loud bang and then noticed i had lost all drive as the throttle was just revving. had to move very quickly from the speed lane over the right shoulder barely missing 18 wheelers coming down hill. coasted on the shoulder downhill all the way into grapevine and into a parking lot. i looked under the truck and the entire rear drive shaft was missing as was part of the yoke that comes out of the differential that connects to the final shaft. had to tow 100 miles back to los angeles. complete rear axle/differential and shaft replaced. *tr

While driving on the interstate, i heard a pop and saw smoke coming out of my truck. waiting for the tow, i noticed that the transfer case housing had cracked and had spewed oil all over the bottom of the truck causing the smoke. after some research i found that the 2004 dodge ram 1500 4x4 (my truck) had been recalled because the transfer case on a possible 500+ vehicles had not been torqued properly. the nhtsa summary states "this could cause the transmission adapter or transfer case housing to crack and leak fluid". the campaign id number is 03v503000. according to chrysler the range of vins involved is 4j116316 through 4j174991. my vehicle, being 4956, is inside this range, but was not was not listed by chrysler (i'm assuming because it was one of the vehicles that had "already been inspected or repaired"). it seems more than coincidence to me that my truck was made in the same plant, in the same lot and inside the same vin range, and exhibited the same symptoms (a cracked transfer case housing), but chrysler customer service maintains that my vin is not included in the recall. i am currently facing more than $2k in repairs for a pickup truck with only 44k miles on it and it is a direct result of chrysler allowing this vehicle to slip through the cracks with safety recall no. c39. my vehicle has obviously not been "inspected or repaired", and chrysler needs to make it right.

Engine stalls upon breaking. this is an intermittent problem. loss of complete power going 45 mph , all 4 breaks locked up on there own, vehicle restarted on it's own. sometimes does not want to restart. check engine light does not come on , nor throw codes. over the past 3 years this has happened apx 50 times. no warning leading up to complete loss of power. parts already replaced include: fuel pump, crankshaft position sensor and ignition switch. none of which have resolved the issue. *tr

Driving down road and felt and heard a loud bang under truck . emergency brake and abs lites came on and speedometer stopped working. immediatly went to the garage to have it checked. mechanic told me that the speed senser was broken and gear oil was leaking from the senser. when he removed the speed senser he noticed that the under side was distroyed. he then removed the differential cover and found that the retaining clips had come out and destroyed the differential unit. the differential unit and bearings were replaced with new dodge parts. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. the contact was traveling 35 mph when the vehicle began exhibiting an abnormal grinding. the vehicle was towed to their mechanic where the contact was informed that the rear differential was failing. the dealer was contacted and advised that the failure was common for his year, make and model between 75,000 and 100,000 miles. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 93,000.

2004 ram 1500 5.7 hemi stalls at low engine speeds, often at stop signs, traffic lights, or parking lot maneuvers. will usually start immediately back up, sometimes requires slight accelerator pressure when cranking in order to obtain self-sustaining engine speed. during decelerations, engine rpm is erratic and will often encounter a transient drop in rpm's to approximately 400 rpm before engine dies. issue seems to be more common and severe in cold weather, or when engine is cold, but has occurred under all conditions. this has been a persistent problem for about two years, happening anywhere from once a day to a dozen times. multiple dealerships and mechanics have looked at this, without result. the computer has been updated, the sensors, egr valve, and intake manifold cleaned, and the throttle body has been replaced. still not fixed. vehicle has been well maintained and has less than 55k miles. this is an expensive, dangerous, and frustrating condition. *tr

The rear end/differential blew out on my 2004 dodge ram 1500 and is causing me to miss work and having to rent a car. my truck has 74000 miles on it is just out of the power warranty. my family needs/depends on this vehicle to get to work and around town. can not afford the repair bills. i am currently (fighting) chrysler warranty department please help! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. while driving approximately 70 mph the transfer case cracked. he stated transmission fluid leaked from the vehicle and he heard a loud, unusual bang. the vehicle stalled and he was able to push the vehicle off the roadway with assistance from others. the vehicle was towed to his residence. a local repair facility was contacted where he was given an estimate of repairs. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 03v503000 (power train: automatic transmission) however, his vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 133,715.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. while driving various speeds, the contact heard a rattling sound underneath the vehicle. the contact had previously driven on a rock and dirt filled road. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the flex plate in the transmission and the bolts in the torque converter were replaced. the failure mileage was 38,000 was and the current mileage was 40,000. the vin was unavailable.

Engine stalled while braking to turn left in a busy intersection. lost power steering and brakes. narrowly missed crashing into a light pole. the engine stalling occurred for the first time about three weeks ago. at that time it occurred twice in one week. took the car to shop where spark plugs were replaced but the problem was not corrected. engine stalled three times in thirty minutes today. *tr

I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 with 5.7 hemi i've owned since new. the truck will stall without warning at slow speeds and while turning it has always restarted. on some stalls with the lack of power steering and brakes it has been all i could do to not hit other cars. over the years my dodge dealer has offered no help since this doesn't produce a service code. now i see that this is a wide spread problem and a service bulletin (tsd 18-013-05) was issued that sounds like it may or may not correct the problem. a driver without the strength to handle the truck without power steering and brakes would be in real danger. *tr

2004 ram 1500 5.7 hemi stalls at low engine speeds, often at stop signs, traffic lights, or parking lot maneuvers. will usually start immediately back up, sometimes requires slight accelerator pressure when cranking in order to obtain self-sustaining engine speed. during decelerations, engine rpm is erratic and will often encounter a drop in rpms to approximately 400 rpm before engine dies. issue seems to be more common when engine is cold, but has occured under all conditions. this has been a persistent problem for about 1.5 years, happening anywhere from once a day to a dozen times. multiple dealerships and mechanics have looked at this, without result. the computer has been updated, the sensors, egr valve, and intake manifold cleaned, and the throttle body has been replaced. still not fixed. vehicle has been well maintained . this is an expensive, dangerous, and frustrating condition. having 3 kids in the car at any given time also adds to my frustration.

2004 ram 1500 quad cab 5.7l hemi. engine suddenly stalls when it reaches temperature if the vehicle is decelerating (stop or turn). the engine appears to fail to switch correctly from high to low idle and goes right to zero. this results in immediate loss of steering and significant safety hazard. this has continued to occur more frequently with time and by the online descriptions is getting to be fairly common. *tr

Driving at approximately 20 miles per hour across railroad tracks and heard a loud noise and my truck stopped. i had to have it towed and the garage said that the entire rear end is completely torn to shreds. *tr

I was driving and was hearing a whining noise from the rear differential. i took it in for a service. during the service the shop found a chipped tooth so because the truck was under warranty the shop was nice and only charged me the time to pull the cover. i took it to a loyal dealer and it took a week to fix because i was needing my vehicle to go on a planned vacation the next week. then at 73000 and a year later the trucks diff started to make a whining noise again and i called the local dealer again and they told me that i was out of warranty and it was going to cost me $2600.00. so i called around and 4 wheel drive parts gave me a better price so i had them change the gear ratio (4.56) and put an after market lsd (auburn locker) and now i am schedule to take the truck in again because it is making noise again at 95777 miles.just sick of the problem and not looking forward to the possibility of the diff seizing and putting my family in danger or possible death. $ wheel drive parts told me that the chyrsler 9.25 diff is a very bad diff and they recommended me to switch it out to a dana 60 because that is the diff the 3/4 ton have and never have a problem. just cost to make the switch is very expensive. i like the truck just not this weak spot in the vehicle. *tr

Bought a 2004 dodge ram 1500 with 19,000 miles by 36,000 miles the abs light comes on thought it was a sensor dirty or bad, but took it to a garage and they said there was metal shavings on the sensor. none the less need to say is that the rear end is slowly going out. i put my faith in dodge never again! i will go and buy a ford. *tr

2004 dodge ram 1500 pickup, engine rpm's surge consistently with no consequence other than the truck shutting down. starts back most of the time with no problem but there has been instances where the truck does not want to restart. while driving the rpm's run fine but when you decelerate for turning or parking or intersections the truck is slow to gear down and the rpm's surge again shutting the truck down. this is a constant problem with the truck. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. while coasting across railroad tracks, the vehicle stalled when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle restarted within minutes of stalling. there was electrical power, but the engine was not running. there were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. the failure has occurred at least three times within the last two years, in which the dealer reprogrammed the powertrain control module. the failure mileage was 44,000. updated 3/3/09 *cn the consumer stated the engine would always start up after it stalled. updated 03/04/09. *jb

Engine light came. didn't notice anything wrong with the truck. had a friend put it on the machine to find out what the code was. the code was p0404, egr something. the about a week later, while im driving, im going about 30 mph i let my foot off the gas and my truck stalls. a couple of days after that i was turning into a parking lot and my truck stalls again. each this happens i am able to put my truck into neutral and start it right up. i noticed that if i am stopped at a light or if i am starting my truck for the first time in the day when i begin to accelerate it it seems to run a little sluggish until i give it some more gas. no accidents have occurred and have not done anything to replace anyparts as of yet. i have a 7 year, 70,000 mile power train warranty and am not sure if this malfunction is covered. i noticed that when i looked up the defects under the investigations that what was happening to my truck was the same thing being investigated. thank you *tr

Informed by dealer service advisor that rear axle needs to have clutches replaced. failure to have this service completed may result in catastrophic failure of rear end axle shafts which may cause axle shafts to fall out of housing resulting in possible injury and repairs amounting to several thousand dollars. this condition was reported to me while my vehicle was in for an oil change. my vehicle only has 32,000 miles on it but dealer said that this was a problem affecting my vehicle type. i feel that dodge should repair this problem immediately as it is appears that this is a defective serious condition. *tr

Vehicle started to stall upon slowing down for a light or at a stop. took it in to the dealership who upon first "diagnosing" did not find anything wrong/could not locate problem. had general maintainance (tune-up, fuel injection svc., oil change)done on vehicle at that time. stalling continued. took vehicle back again, pcm was replaced. next day, stalling out again, even more than before. *tr

2004 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 5.7 liter has stalled multiple times. usually immediately after start up or at low speeds. *tr

Failure of front wheel bearings on my 2004 dodge ram 1500 at 29,400 miles. resulted in loss of brakes almost causing an accident. wheel bearings were replaced, i do still have the old ones. the left front was so bad it was ready to seperate from the hub. i'm told by the dealer that this is a common problem although chrysler has not addressed it.*cn

I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 5.7 liter with 48k miles that has had numerous problems (e.g. erg valve replaced, power steering reservoir (currently being replaced), and engine stalling at an idle, while turning, while backing up, or coasting. the stalling occurs out of the blue as if someone flipped a switch causing the engine to die. the electrical stays on, just the engine dies. most of the time it starts right back up but sometimes it takes awhile. the stalling has happened numerous times and is very unpredictable. the stalling began about three - four months ago. i currently have it in for repairs at lee's summit dodge, lee's summit missouri. *tr

2004 dodge ram 1500 stalls for no apparent reason.left me cross ways in traffic as i pulled into road from gas station. fuel mileage 14 mpg on and off highway . actually drops mileage on overhead read out when coasting down a grade. balks at cruising speed. transmission slips in reverse after truck sits overnight. transmission lulls in it's shifting. been to dealership five times. they have done nothing . 1. claimed trans needed flashed, claimed secondary trans filter was bad(second time they actually changed the filter. no difference. charged me 169.00 for that change . claimed it was not covered under warranty or 0 deductible extended warranty. charged 100.00 deductible and 69.00 diagnosis. i handed them a copy of technical service bulletin that called for the change, but they charge for diagnosis. why 100.00 deductible when i have ) deductible ex warranty? " not covered under either of those warranties... this is a different warranty" ????? door seals also torn." not covered on 2004 only 2005 models....same problem but not covered????

Clutch pack retainer clips in 2004 dodge ram 1500. these clips failed in my rear differential leaving large pieces of metal in the housing.the dealership fixed it under warranty but i'm concerned it will happen again.my main worry is that if they fail at highway speeds it could lead to rear end lock up without warning.i belong to a dodge enthusiast group online and about 80% of people who own the 1500 with a limited slip differential have had clip failure, sometimes completely destroying the rear end. i really feel like something needs to be done about this as chrysler has chosen to turn their backs on the problem. *tr

Vehicle has a problem with the front axle shafts. they were initially replaced at 20,000 miles a year ago, then in january 2007 a u joint went bad on the left front axle and was replaced. since then the truck has a bad vibration and continues to worsen. *jb

Tl* - the contact called regarding the 2004 dodge ram 1500. the contact did research and found the vehicle had a recall 034503000 for the automatic transmission. the contact called the dealer & manufacturer to see if this vehicle was affected. both the dealer and the manufacturer stated the information was proprietary and they could not release it. the vehicle had 34,000 miles.

For the past couple weeks, my wife claimed to hear a strange sound from '04 ram 1500 quad cab. yesterday, while traveling on the turnpike with my children, she started to smell something burning, then heard a strange noise, finally some vibrations. she promptly began to pull off of the road, at this point the rear-end locked up, snapped the drive shaft, and a fire broke out beneath the truck. i'm not religious, but thank god the drive shaft broke from the rear end and not the transmission. i think we all know what could have happened then. *nm

This is an update to complaint #10182379. i took the tsb and my truck to bounds dodge in livingston, tx. they updated my computer and charged me $86.00. my truck is now nearly stalling at lights and stops, and in addition idles rough. i feel like i have been robbed in broad daylight, and there isn't a thing i can do about it. i am now paying for a brand new vehicle with defects that i bought from a crooked company. once again....please help.....thank you. *ak

Engine stalling by 2004 dodge ram 1500-5.7l v8 engine. this has been a recurring issue and directly led to an accident causing over $10,000 in damage and near fatal injuries. further, this vehicle (and others i have become aware of) have been serviced at the dealership on time/schedule but this issue has never been addressed nor have they been recalled or repaired despite numerous complaints. fortunately the repairs were covered by insurance but the vehicle still has the same problem for which neither the local dealer nor chrysler-dodge et, al. has addressed this issue (although reading the files it is clear they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and man hours to refute/dismiss this matter. *tr

Truck started stalling a few weeks ago for my wife. i finally had the chance to drive it and it fell flat on its face. my entire family was almost put into a telephone pole at 45 mph since the truck lost all power. this time it didn't stall it just ran with no acceleration and held at 4,000 rpms. extensive attempts for cooperation by dealership and daimler chrysler have led me to believe i bought a really expensive coffin. i established the tsb codes w/ both and was left hansen high and dry. i got that " sure we'll help, here' s a new truck but we can't pay off yours even though we sold it to you." and the" we're not responsible for this even though we acknowledge the problem is our fault." i will not purchase a dodge vehicle again. shame on dodge!!!! i don't really blame the dealership, but they themselves should have checked all this with the truck before selling it to me. daimler chrysler representatives who decided this isn't a problem should be made should be punished by law to drive these faulty vehicles until they are injured or killed. maybe then these problems will be repaired. *nm

Subj: rear differential failure dear sir or madame, several months ago, i purchased a used 2004 dodge ram 1500 that was out of the warranty period. on dec. 7, 2006 i had my rear differential serviced by an ase certified facility after reading numerous postings on several online forums discussing rear differential failures for this vehicle and after i experienced a loss in general performance of the truck. as suspected and as documented by other owners, the clutch retainer clips of the rear differential fell apart in the differential housing causing the entire rear end to fail. i am in process of having all moving parts in the housing to be rebuilt by a drivetrain specialist and will cost in excess of $1000. i was also told by the technician servicing the vehicle that it is quite possible that this problem if not caught in early stages, can create a catastrophic failure of the rear end eventually leading to lock up. in speeds in excess of 50 miles per hour this can cause vehicle roll overs and total loss of total vehicle. the fact that daimler-chrysler has yet to issue a service bulletin for this issue is aggravating and shows their lack of sympathy for their owners and as well as other drivers on the road. thank you, kenneth mosley . *nm

On all 2002-2005, and maybe 2006, dodge ram 1500s equipped with the 9.25" rear limited slip differential. the retaining clips on the lsd fail and begin grinding a ring into the housing. when enough grinding has occurred the clips can become free destroying the rear differential. in some cases it cans cause the rear differential to lock up. if this occurs at a high rate of speed you can imagine what it would be like to have your rear tires lock up going 75 mph down the freeway. myself and many others have called into dodge to complain about their faulty lsd's. since no one has died i guess they don't care. i know it is cheaper to only fix the ones that get caught within the warranty, then it is to fix every single 9.25" lsd on the road today but it is wrong. i asked the dodge representative on the phone if dodge would cover the differential again if it fails out side of the warranty since it was a known problem on my vehicle and had to be replaced. i was told no. i would have to call in a see if they could do a good will coverage. this is a major issue and it is a wonder, and pure luck, that no one has died from having their rear-end locking up on them doing 75 mph down the freeway. i have pictures of the beginning stages of this problem if you would like to see them. i also know a large number of people who have been stuck with a bill to replace the failed unit themselves only a few thousand miles after the warranty. even if dodge does repair it the same junk lsd goes right back in. this is a very simple problem to identify during scheduled maintenance if the dealerships were told to look and dodge had a better item to replace them with. i hope you can do something before someone does get injured or killed by dodge. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle stalled while coming to a stop and while idling. the dealership determined the seals in the electrical system of the transmission (wiring harness) leaked allowing water to get into the electrical system. the wiring to the wiring harness was corroded. the dealership cleaned several connectors and replaced a ground wire. the dealership informed the contact that if cleaning the connectors did not correct the problem, the entire wiring harness would have to be replaced.

Rear axle noise. repeatedly reported to service department. failure and complete replacement of rear axle. transmission will not temporally not engage after vehicle sits for a long period. increasing engine rpms will engage transmission. vehicle lost substantial power while operating in mid western states of montana and wyoming. still loss of power noticed upon returning to ct. *jb

Vehicle had under 100,000 miles when this started. 1. power steering pump leaks 2. sometimes you can't put it in gear after you put it in park. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 25mph, the driveshaft broke without warning and ruptured the fuel tank causing a fire at the rear of the vehicle. no one was injured, but there was extensive damage to the vehicle. the fire department was contacted to extinguish the flames, a report was taken. a manufacturer representative inspected the vehicle and confirmed the source of the fire as the broken driveshaft.

Engine stalls while driving. dealer installed updated pcm calibration. stalling continues to occur during the same conditions, especially while turning, but less frequently. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while pulling into a parking stall or attempting slight turning maneuvers the engine idle will fluctuate up and down and stall. although the engine stalls the vehicle is easily restarted. no warning indicators are present when this occurs. there is a nhtsa action number pe05027 concerning the automatic transmission control module, the vehicle is displaying the same problems as indicated in the investigation. the vehicle has been seen by a dealer, but the dealer is unable to determine the cause of the problem. *ak

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 35 mph the rear axel fractured and came off the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, upon inspection the dealer stated the contact must have hit something to cause this failure. *ak
