Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. after the ignition key was in the off position, the radio and headlights failed to turn off without warning. in addition, the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 132,052.

I keep having issues with the wiring on tail lights, i constantly replace the light bulbs which work, the wiring is bad in this vehicle. i also have issues with the electrical when it rains, it drains my battery after every heavy rain, it makes a noise like it's booting up or something. i love the vehicle but really considering trading in. *tr

My car will not lock. about a year ago the "lock-unlock key" stopped working and no one could figure out what was wrong with it. since then i've had to manually use the key to unlock the driver door and then manually use the door lock/unlock button for the rest of the doors. last month (march 2015), the locks completely stopped working. after 2 days the unlock button on both the driver and passenger sides starting working, but the lock button is completely non-functional. i have to manually lock every door to keep my car somewhat secure, however my trunk is now stuck unlocked with no way to lock it. i have brought my car to 3 mechanics and none of them can figure out the problem. after doing some research it seems many people are having this same problem. *tr

So it started with my locks not working. the door would only lock if i stuck the key in the door or if i manually pushed/pulled the lock. then about a week later my car would not start the first time when i would try to start the car. after that, it just got worst from there as in it would take longer/more attempts to start the car, until it just wouldn't start anymore. i had the car towed to a mechanic and he said it was my fuse box (tipm). and that he had heard of a lawsuit against chrysler because of faulty tipm for a recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. when the vehicle was started, the windshield wipers began to operate without engaging the windshield wiper lever. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Tl* the contact owns a 1997 dodge nitro (n/a). the contact stated that the locks failed to release when the key fob was activated. the contact stated that remote key access failed to release the locks. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. the vin number was not available.

The vehicle unlocks and locks on its own. the vehicle lights will come on and off on its own.

The door will not unlock with key fob or work inside when buttons pressed. fuse blew tried to replace it when new fuse just melts and give off electrical sparks. can secure vehicle or open lift gate because it only opens with key fob. *tr

Since march 2014. the horn has gone off by itself (3), the truck has died while driving at a speed of 30 mph (1), truck has failed to start (1). *tr

Door locks do not work any time as well as the rear hatch. the car stalls at times for no reason on street

My eleven year old son put the right rear passenger side window down. within 30 seconds of putting the window down, the power window switch and door panel began to smoke. there were large amounts of smoke and a burning smell coming from the door. the door panel became extremely hot causing him to undo his seatbelt and jump across the seat. i immediately pulled over and turned the nitro off killing power to the switch. the switch continued to burn and smoke for more than five minutes after i turned the truck off and got my family to safety. *tr

I had a fuse blow in 2014 so i had my mechanic replace it. ever since it has been replace my car no longer locks using my keyless entry. my windshield washer fluid never shuts off so i have to leave it unplugged. my hatch only locks when i manually lock it which involves removing the cover on the inside of the car. and now over the last few weeks when my car is parked it will unlock and the headlights come on for no reason. i have had nothing but problems with this car ever since it was purchased in 2012.

While driving no matter what the speed the car kicks back. it could be when it's moving to the next gear or just on a gear it kicks back hard. took the car to mechanic no issues with transmission every one is stumped as to what it is. nothing comes up on diagnostic. the other issue that started with the above problem is that the car turns off on it's own. it could be while you are idle or backing up, parking or even in the process of stopping at a red light. i almost hit the car in front because the breaks locked up after the car just stalled while i was stopping the vehicle. again no one knows why this is happening. very dangerous. i've avoided several accidents. i live in a place that has lots of hills so if this car turns off while breaking/slowing down going downhill i can hit the car in front. breaks lock up because car is turned off so i have no way to stop car but emergency break and hope that it works quick enough. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. the contact stated that the key fob failed to unlock or lock the front passenger, rear passenger, and rear driver side doors. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic. the technician stated that the integrated control module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. when attempting to lock the vehicle with the key fob, the doors would not lock. the failure recurred intermittently until the doors no longer locked or unlocked utilizing the key fob or console on the driver door. the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic, but there was no diagnosis or repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000. the vin was not available.

I have a 2007 dodge nitro. the car no longer locks, either automatically while you drive, or by pushing the button in the car, or by using the key fob. (the car however will still unlock.) since there is no lock whatsoever on the trunk/back door the car can't completely lock, thus exposing yourself to theft. the only way you can lock most of the car is to manually push the button in all 4 doors, but the back door is always unlocked. now i have to leave my car completely empty in the case of a break-in attempt. after researching this issue, i am finding that this is becoming a very common issue with this car. *tr

The vehicle stopped abruptly while i was in the process of driving without warning. the abs and skid lights constantly blink on and off. when the skid light comes on the vehicle slows down drastically and quickly even with the gas pedal down. the car is also now sputtering. this happens constantly, everyday at any speed.. *tr

My 2007, dodge nitro's automatic door lock system works intermediately. most of the time i am unable to lock my car using the lock button on the doors, or using the key fob. the only way to lock my car doors is to manually push down the lock on each door, unfortunately i am unable to lock the trunk door/hatch entirely because it doesn't have an external lock. thus, leaving my car vulnerable to theft. i travel a lot and i am worried to leave anything in my car since it will never completely locks. this is a serious issue in this vehicle, one of the most common problems among nitro owners. in 2007 there was a recall on dodge door lock systems, but for some reason this make/model wasn't recalled. please help! it costs over $1,000 to fix and it's a safety issue! http://www.foxnews.com/story/2007/09/14/chrysler-recalls-36000-vehicles-for-brake-problems/. *tr

Was driving and was flagged down and told my right and left tail light was not working. the middle brake light comes on but the right and left do not work. i have had the brake light switch replaced, checked the fuses and replaced both tail light circuit boards with nothing working. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the windshield wipers activated independently. in addition, the turning signals failed. the contact diagnosed that the multi-function switch had failed. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 110,265.

I was driving on a side street when my car suddenly dies. if i would have been going down the road with my child in the car at a fast speed we would've wrecked. i've also had problems with my radio not turning off when i power my car off. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the wiring harness failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the wiring harness was replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 108,000. kmj

I have had numerous issues with this vehicle that dodge must think is not serious enough to fix. about 5 months ago while driving the car the horn kept going off. in an hours time the thing must've gone off at least 30 times! i took it in and the dealership gave me 5 possible causes as the computer scan didn't find any issues/code. today it started going off again. i was in my house, so the car was not running. when i went outside thinking i could possibly unplug the horn, i noticed that the radio was on. no key in the ignition! over the last 5 months, the horn has gone off both while and while not driving it, the radio has come on when no one was in the car and no key in the ignition and the car has stalled while it was being driven down the road. this needs to be fixed! i am not the only one with these issues. when googling "2007 dodge nitro horn going off" there are multiple stories of this happening to people, which include all types of electric issues. some resolved the issue when a new tipm was installed. dodge/chrysler needs to recall the vehicle for faulty tipm before people get seriously injured! *tr

Driving north on interstate i-75 in heavy traffic due to an accident, my horn started sounding, my windshield wipers activated and windshield washer fluid started flooding the windshield. i pulled over and shut the vehicle off and restarted the vehicle normally. approximately, two months later, i attempted to unlock my car remotely using my key and the horn started blaring, the windshield wipers activated and the windshield washer fluid sprayed continuously. i called dodge chrysler corporation to see if they could offer assistance. they told me which fuses to pull. i had to disconnect the battery to stop the horn, then pulled the fuses and reconnected the battery. i was able to replace the fuses and drive home. dodge chrysler told me to contact my dealer if it did it again. on september 14, 2013. i attempted to unlock my car using my remote key and everything happened again. i disconnected the battery and pulled the fuses but after reconnecting the battery and reinstalling the fuses, the problem persisted. i contacted dodge chrysler and they transferred me to my local dealer. i took the car in first thing monday morning but the service department could not replicate the problem and no codes were stored. i picked up my vehicle that evening and within 3 miles of the dealership, my nitro horn, wipers and washer fluid all activated. i immediately returned to the dealer and left my car. the service department was able to replicate the problem but dodge chrysler would offer no cost assistance to replace a faulty tipm (totally integrated power module). i was informed that i would have to pay for the $750 repair myself. there are numerous reports of this and other incidents involving the tipm for not only dodge but chrysler and jeep products. dodge chrysler jeep corporation needs to be held accountable. *tr

The gas cap gauge stated there was a problem and my automatic engine start would not work any longer. we replaced the gas cap and the problem still persists two years later. we have taken the vehicle into the dealership, but nothing has ever been resolved. the vehicle also stalls and the engine turns off while driving. this has happened a half dozen times while driving 30-40 mph. also, when driving in 2-3 gear, the vehicle feels like it is surging and has an intermittent miss. 8/11/14 the vehicle would not start and i called a company to give the battery a jump. the car started but now the electrical system is malfunctioning with the door locks continuously locking and unlocking, the hazards flickering and the back wiper going. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle lost all power. the vehicle stalled in the middle of the highway in traffic. the contact also discovered that the windshield wipers and headlights still operated and the vehicle was powered off. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the tipm part needed to replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 142,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 dodge nitro (n/a). the contact was traveling 45 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact attempted to control the steering and applied the brakes but had a difficult time because the vehicle was completely off. the contact stated that every light on the instrument panel was illuminated. the driver restarted the vehicle and the vehicle drove normally. the contact stated that the failure recurred once more. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and informed that they could not determine what caused the failure. the manufacturer was notified and informed that there was nothing that could be done. the failure mileage was 50000. updated 07/17/12*lj

I purchased a 2007 dodge nitro for drivers select on rl thornton freeway in dallas. unbeknownst to me dodge had a recall for the tipm which to my knowledge has not been correctly fixed on the car i bought. i had nitro serviced by huffines in plano tx only for nitro to go out again. it is currently being serviced again and dealership wants to charge me around 500.00 for a manufacturing issue that should be covered for free due to safety issue. *tr

Used the key fob to lock the car, walked out about 10 minutes later to find the cooling fan running on the car even though the car had not moved. unlocked the car the fan stopped running but he battery was dead. charged the battery and all was fine till trying to leave for work on monday morning when battery was dead again after using the key fob to lock the car. no longer using the key fob until we can find out what is going on. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall at anytime and without warning. the dealer and manufacturer were contacted and advised that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 07v291000 (electrical system) any denied any assistance with repairs to the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was unavailable.

Without warning or vehicle hesitation, the motor stalled and i lost all power steering and brakes. fortunately i was in a residential area and i pulled into a driveway and attempted to re-start my vehicle without success. vehicle was towed to the local dodge dealer where they determined the tipm (totally integrated power module) had failed and would have to be replaced at a cost of approximately $625.00 +$85.00 to the towing company. i have also had issues with the wiper relays twice (which are part of safety recall j28) once before the recall under warranty and now had it replaced with the tipm. since the wiper relay is part of the tipm, i wonder if the complete failure of the tipm is related or maybe faulty tipm;s are causing the wiper relay problem.

The wiper blades stopped working during a rain storm and the turn signals wouldn't work, couldn't turn the head lamps off or on.

First repair: vehicle would jerk (as if it was shifting too hard) when going over bumps in the road and would stop (rpm gauge drops to 0, lose power steering, would have to coast to shoulder and re-start vehicle). fuel injector was replaced. second repair: vehicle would not start without several attempts, once it started it would stop driving (rpm gauge drops to 0, lose power steering, would have to coast to shoulder and re-start vehicle). relay was replaced. third repair (about to go back to shop tomorrow)- car started normally and then stopped while driving (rpm gauge drops to 0, lose power steering, would have to coast to shoulder and re-start vehicle). this is the third time in 2 weeks that the car has been in for servicing for the same problem, and the manufacturer's dealership cannot figure out what is wrong with the vehicle. this has become a major safety concern, as i do not know when the vehicle will stop unexpectedly while driving. i have rented a car until i can have my car repaired again, because i am afraid to drive my car. *tr

I purchased a '07 dodge nitro back in june of this year. recently it began doing a "shut off" while going about 80 mph, did that twice within a few minutes, scared the crap out of me. the next day it stalled while turning into my driveway, each time it has started right back up on its own no problem. last night i went to go pick up my son from class go to unlock the doors and got no response, truck was dead as dead can get. had my husband jump it and it started right up. this morning it went dead again while i was waiting in a drive-thru line, had people yelling at me rather then asking if i needed help, finally flagged someone down and got a jump, again started right up no problem. i know there is a recall out for tipm on vehicles built before january 23, 2007. mine was built in november of '06 but when i checked the dodge site and entered my vin as it instructed it only pulled up the wiper relay recall. i then called my local dodge dealership and told them about my issue and how i found that there was a recall on certain vehicles for the tipm causing it to stall out, they told me there never was such a recall and they had never heard of that ever happening. i set up an appointment to have it looked at( it is still under warranty) and printed out the recall to show them when i get there, unfortunately i can't get in until thursday which means i have to drive scared out of my wits for the next couple days. if it isn't fixable then i may have to look into getting rid of my beloved nitro as i cannot have this happening when i have small children in the car. *tr

My 2007 dodge nitro spontaneously lit all warning indicators and stalled. when i contacted daimler chrysler about recall g25 or nhtsa campaign id 07v291. they indicated that only canadian made vehicles were part of this earlier recall. *tr

My 2007 dodge nitro has been having stalling issues the last two weeks. when i press the accelerator, it hesitates and almost cuts off. there is no pattern as to when it happens; it is inconsistent. yesterday, after i picked up carpool at my son's elementary school, i made a right turn, and the car completely cut off when i hit the accelerator. i had to coast to a stop (i had no power steering or power brakes) and restart the car. fortunately, i was not making a right turn onto a busy road or into an intersection as there would have been nothing i could have done to prevent an accident with 2 second graders in the back seat. it will be heading to the dealership to be checked out. *tr

Alarm system malfunction. alarm would activate and stop, activate and stop. according to neighbors, this happened on and off from friday night 11/13/09 through sunday 11/15/09. i was out of town at the time. vehicle was sitting in driveway. this issue annoyed my neighbors big time. this problem has annoyed a neighbor so bad, that i feel threatened by him, and had to call to state police on him for parking across the street from my house and revving his truck engine, flashing his headlights and honking his horn while facing my house. i had to have the vehicle towed to the dealership where i purchase the nitro. they could not find any problems with the alarm system, but i do not buy this at all. something happened to caused the alarm system to malfunction over a 2 day period. i was told by the dealership, once an alarm is activated, it does not reset itself, and should not go off again until it is reset. i want to know what happened. the car had been vandalized, i.e. cut wires, but i think this was done out of shear anger by someone annoyed by the alarm going off all the time, but i cannot prove this. but still, the alarm system should not have continued to activate itself. *tr

i have a 2007 dodge nitro that i purchased in 2007. within a few months of owning i took it too the dealer to have the below recall item fixed. i have had problems recently (3 to be exact) when driving down the road at 50-60mph the engine will shut off and all the lights on the instrument panel will come on. once the engine stalls i am unable to steer or brake. i have notice on the web that there are several other 2007 dodge nitro owners experiencing the same issue. please let me know what action i can take in this matter with chrysler dodge. i have yet another service appt set with my dealer. make: dodge model: nitro model year: 2007 manufacturer: daimlerchrysler corporation mfr's report date: jul 03, 2007 nhtsa campaign id number: 07v291000 pe07027 nhtsa action number: pe07027 component: electrical system potential number of units affected: 80894 summary: on certain vehicles, the totally integrated power module (tipm) was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain operating conditions. consequence: this could cause a crash without warning. remedy: dealers will reprogram the tipm. the recall began on july 5, 2007. owners may contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403. notes: daimlerchrysler recall no. g25. customers may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov. *tr

Driving are parked the horn will sound and lights flash. parked with engine off windshield wipers, and fluid will turn on, and radio will come on. windows and locks don't work all the time. a new battery will last two days before it won't start. check engine light stays on even after i had new heads put on. airbag light stays on.

Dodge nitro problem with static electricity making the vehicle not start. they say it is not a safety issue warranting a recall. i say that depends on where you are when it decides not to start. *tr

Driving to work when truck stalled and stalled again while going to my fathers house then took it to dealer and they said nothing was wrong. *tr

Uncontrolled accelleration of 2007 dodge nitro, w/3.7 litre, has happened 5 times in six months of owning . cant be fixed by dealer cause doesn't show code or able to duplicate when they have it , only way to stop it is to put in neutral and kill engine . have had other problems like idle rough and surging , and like someone turning key off and on for split second while driving at highway speeds. there has not been any pattern to when sudden acel happens , it has been random and can seemingly happen w/out notice. the dealer keeps telling me to keep driving it till it does it again so they can try to get codes or something to trouble shoot it. but this is very dangerous as you would think. im at a loss to what to do , i have contacted dodge complaint line and they don't seem to worried about my safety as it would seem , do to them wanting me to keep bringing it back to dealer . also no parts have been changed in order to try to correct ,only hook up scanner and drive around block and flash programs at it which has seemingly had ill affect on it as in my fuel mileage has went 23-24 highway to about 15-18 now, and they cant get it back where it was, now it is parked in driveway and family wont drive because scared of it, and i m still paying on vehicle that is unsafe and no idea how to fix , or dodge i should say, cant fix. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. the contact stated when driving various speeds, all of the warning lights would illuminate sporadically. the vehicle would then become hesitant, stall and restart independently. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer and an independent mechanic, and both advised her that they were unable to diagnose the failure. in addition, all of the exterior door handles were fractured. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised her that she needed to replace all of the door handles. all of the door handles except for the drivers side were replaced. in addition, all of the windows would only operate partially when attempting to open and close them. the vehicle was not repaired for the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the instrument panel lights illuminated. approximately three or four seconds later, the vehicle restarted on its own. the failure has occurred approximately three times. the vehicle is included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v291000 (electrical system); however, the contact has not been able to have the recall work performed. the current mileage was 6,000 and failure mileage was 5,900.

In purchasing a 2007 dodge nitro it has been in the repair shop for almost 30 days with in a 5 month period. first, defective brakes and now for the 5th time stalling while driving along with instrument lights flashing on and erratic jerking around. i don't know how else to explain it. the car decides to turn off while driving through an intersection nearly causing a major accident. this is not a single incident and i fear for my life and my 5 year old daughters life driving in this car. *tr

My 2007 dodge nitro sputters between 35 & 55 mph. it seems like its running out of gas. its not even one year old. first they said the computer had to be reprogrammed that didn't fix it, the dealership said there's nothing they can do. so, there has to be a solution to this problem. does anyone know anything about this kind of problem. thanks. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. while driving 55 mph, the engine suddenly shut off and the instrument panel lights remained illuminated. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the dealer stated that the failure was unknown, although nhtsa campaign id number 07v291000 (electrical system) was established. the current mileage was 8,256 and failure mileage was 7,756.

This is the second complaint i have filed with nhtsa for the same problem, the first in june 2007 was submitted after an accident caused by engine stalling issues. during the time my car was at the body shop to repair damage caused by the accident, chrysler issued the safety recall g25. the dodge dealer honored the recall and i was returned the repaired vehicle with the assurance the stalling issue was remedied. on august 17, 2007 at 5:10 pm i was traveling at full speed on the freeway and i lost all power (same as the previous 5 times). i put the car into neutral, and turned the ignition, it started and i continued on my way with the check engine light still on. didn't chrysler say the problem was fixed with the recall? i could have died in the accident, or yesterday when my nitro stalled again...and now i am having the same problem!! please investigate, lives are at serious risk! *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. the contact received recall notice number 07v291000 (electrical system). the dealer did not know how to reprogram the tipm. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled, but was able to be restarted. the tire pressure warning indicator light illuminated. the current and failure mileages were 9,950. updated 02/01/08. *lj updated 02/01/08 *tr
