Problems with 2006 Dodge Magnum FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2006 Dodge Magnum starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 119 120 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2006 Dodge Magnum

I have owned this 2006 dodge magnum se v6 2.7l from new, bought in april 2006, the problem i'm having is with the car stalling, without any notice, happening today when turning left at a stop light and starting uphill. i was able to restart the car after pulling to the right without power, coming to a stop, putting the car in park, and restarting. i made it back home, but the car has been cranking over and not starting when in my garage, this after filling up with gas. i've had this issue happen before from 2006 onward to today, only a few times a year, and changed out the fuel pump relay each time and thought that was the problem, but the car has never stalled while driving before now, only when sitting at a light or stop sign after filling up the tank. the car only has 73,000 miles now after 13 years, i always baby the car and it still looks new. thanks for any help with this matter

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. the contact noticed a fuel odor coming from the vehicle while the vehicle was stationary with the engine running. the contact also noticed the odor while exiting the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

My dodge magnum stalls after filling up the fuel tank. it happens shortly after filling up and will continue until the car has been driven about 30 miles. it will stall regardless of what speed i am driving. it will restart after a couple tries.

Car stalls unexpectedly immediately after a fuel fill up. problem clears up within 10 minutes of continuous driving.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. while driving various speeds, fuel leaked onto the muffler. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact repaired the fuel line, but the failure continued. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was 152,000.

I purchased a 2006 dodge magnum last week on 4/4/2019 odometer reading at 109, 545. 2 days after i purchased the car it needed fuel and i filled the gas tank. i then left the gas station. within less than a mile the engine stalled as if it were trying to shut off. this happened 4 times within 1 minute and less than a mile from the gas station. since i was merging onto a highway, i could not just pull over. i continued off the merge and into the highway. then it stopped. with hesitation i continued down the highway. about 20 miles down the highway later and driving at the speed limit of 70 mph, i accelerated on the gas pedal to go up a small hill and maintain the speed limit of 70 mph. the car again tries to stall out and shut off and it continued to do this 3 more times. i had to drive yet another 50 miles to make it home and i was very uneasy the whole time. i did make it home without any additional insidents. the incident was very unsettling. i dread what happens the next time i put gas in it as this seemed to be the trigger of the incident. i went home to research the issue and sure enough this a common complaint among dodge magnum owners. apparently there had been a recall for an issue with the gas tank. my vin does not show up or qualify for the recall but is indeed having this shared problem. i feel it is a major safety issue for anyone on the highway. causing serious injury and or death to myself, my passengers and any other drivers on the road. this issue needs to be resolved and addressed! especially after finding there are so many other 2006 dodge magnum owners having the same problem! to replace the gas tank by a certified dodge mechanic it will cost about $2,000 in parts and labor. how do i get help with this recall issue even though the vin on my car is not showing it is eligible or included in the recall??

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. after fueling the vehicle and traveling approximately 15 mph, the vehicle started to hesitate and shut off. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. after driving approximately one block, the failure recurred. an independent mechanic was able to restart the vehicle and it was driven to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 58254079. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 118,000.

Takata recall

On several occasions, i have filled the fuel tank and when attempting to leave, the engine has stalled, sometimes in the parking lot of the gas station, other times attempting to stall but not cutting off, while driving on the road. i have been able to start the car when it has cut off in the parking lot, and if it stalled while driving, i have been able to keep it running by "feathering" the accelerator until it starts to run normally. i have read similar complaints about other owners with similar vehicles to mine, each having the 6.1l hemi engine or the 5.7 hemi. it appears that i may have the same problem, where the fuel shut-off float fails to perform properly. i read that the nhtsa pe13016 was issued that relates to this problem. i cannot provide a specific date since i no longer fill the tank. (note that i haven't had the problem unless i have filled the tank. months ago, i was able to fill the tank without experiencing the problem, but that was a while back. (i estimated the latest date in order to complete this form.)

Car stalls randomly when fuel tank is full or after fill up. may stall without warning when in motion or stationary. this is a known issue with this model and similar models. cause is a faulty fuel tank.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. after refueling the vehicle, it stalled without warning while driving. the failure occurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 135,000.

The car stalls soon after refilling the fuel tank, the filling was stopped when the pump automatically shuts off. this is a safety concern because it has happened while driving straight on a street, and also while turning onto a highway. the car becomes difficult to maneuver due to the loss of power assist provided to the steering and brakes by the engine. this appears to be caused by a lack of fuel to the engine. the car has restarted, so far, after a few seconds sitting still in the traffic.

After filling up gas car stalls out while driving, will start back up but shuts down again. going up hill car stalls and shuts off i have to hit the gas pedal to keep it running.

This has happened two times since owning the car only 2 weeks. both times when we filled up at a gas station, the car would stall several times immediately after leaving the gas station and getting up to speed or at speed. the car would stop in the middle of traffic, and would always restart when put in park, but this causes a safety situation if we are turning, entering a freeway, etc.

Dodge mag timing belt recalled. car heated up after driving it for two months and the timing belt snapped and left me and my child on the side of the road , nothing indicated that it was heating up until the car shut down by itself when i was driving. *tr

Takata recall vehicle stalls anytime . loose power steering. unable to steer it. very dangerous. dealer says there is a free replacement for fuel tank because of a defective vent. i never got a recall notice, apparently is just 2006 dodge/chrysler issue. and spend thousands on new computer and other service to find out the cause. found the defective vent issue on line - confirmed with dealer i purchased it at that tank issue is covered. if there had been a recall for this dangerous issue, i would have had it fixed years ago. vehicle is located in duluth, mn/superior, wi area now

Engine stalls while stopped also while driving. which can cause serious accident.

Every time i fill gas the engine stalls repeatedly for about a minute or longer. becomes dangerous when trying to accelerate out of an intersection and it stalls.

Engine light on will not turn off. comes back on after , dealer turned it off.

Car stalling while stopped or at low cruising speeds. then the car is hard to restart. after restarting the car will not go into gear for a while.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. the contact stated that while driving at low speeds, fuel fumes emitted inside the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 102,000.

For four years my vehicle stalls each time i put gasoline in the tank. on several occasions i have stalled in an intersection as well as busy roads.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. while driving at approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the contact also stated that the failure occurred after refueling the vehicle. the failure occurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

Engine stalled while driving minutes after filling the fuel tank. a known problem with these cars. had to pull over and run the vehicle for 15 minutes before the engine could run steadily without stalling . *tr

After filling the fuel tank car has been stalling, shutting off on me. been reading about this issue and seems to be the fuel tank called the dealer that wasn't much help. just bought the car about a month ago happens every time i fill up. *tr

I stopped to get fuel and started off on my trip i went to get on the freeway and the car stalled when trying to merge into traffic. had to dodge a few cars and coasted to the side of the road. i tried to restart the car a few times and it finally restarted. i continued on my trip without any problems until i stopped and filled the gas tank back up. this time i was in heavy traffic and had no place to go, pissed off a few people for blocking traffic but finally got the car restarted. *tr

Filled tank with fuel car stalled after stating and sitting at light . this is not the first time it has happened the last three times i have filled up. *tr

For the last 60 to 90 days , my car has being turning off several times . i took it for maintenance and everything was updated, brakes , oil change . i was advised it was my fuel tank . this needs to be fixed asap , i drive my children with me all the time . *tr

Car dies after fill up always. *tr

While driving vehicle car will stall and only give about 5percent power. it can happen anytime has happened multiple times. dealer had vehicle for a month and cannot determine the issues. i was almost hit by moving vehicles multiple times. *tr

When i fill my car with gas my engine will repeatedly stall anywhere from a minute or less to as long as 5 to 15 minutes upon leaving the station. its very much like the pe13-016 investigation. in fact i've brought my car to the dealer and they have confirmed that my the gas tank is faulty. i did my research and uncovered your investigation and thought everything would be ok but it wasn't. even though my car is a 2006 dodge magnum 5.7l v8 with a 19 gallon fuel tank both the dealer (larry miller dodge boise) and the chrysler customer assistance center are adamant that my gas tank does not have the extended lifetime warranty described in pe13-016. they insist my car does not have the faulty tank that was the subject of your investigation. i don't claim to understand how stalling in traffic is not considered a safety issue and worthy of a recall but all other things equal, how come my car does not qualify for the extended lifetime warranty when even my dealer is saying my car has the exact same symptoms, its the right model year and the right configuration. this is not a trivial thing. would you want to see your spouse and children randomly stalled out in traffic. and like me, i have found several other reports from fellow chrysler lx series owners (magnum, charger & 300c) reporting that no, the car will not always start right back up. very often we have to wrestle with it and suffer through multiple stalls and difficult starts before the problem clears itself. please help.

On multiple ocassions, during the re-fueling operation up to full level, the vehicle will stall out. no trouble codes are stored. after restart, and while driving away the vehicle may unexpectedly stall-out on one or more ocassions while stopped in gear, or at slow speed or while accelerating from a stop after the refueling has taken place. when the car stalls out while driving, the vehicles behind you do not know that there is a problem with the vehicle and near accidents have occurred. additionally, if accelerating from a stop, cross traffic also does not know that there was a problem with your car, and near accidents have again almost occurred becuase you have not cleared out of the intersection at the rate/timing that the other driver would have reasonably expected. these unexpected stalls may occur until such time that the car has burned off some fuel by either time or by higher speeds, but even at higher speeds you can still have some hesitation and "surging". situation occurs after re-fueling up to full level only, and without regard to fuel octane level, whether cold or hot outside temperature or engine condition. *tr

While waiting at a traffic stop the vehicle stalled. cranked it twice and got it started. on the next light it stalled again when slowing. the gas was at 3/4 full. next time, my wife and kids were on the freeway when the car stalled when slowing to stop at an exit. deemed unsafe but realized the it happened after gas was filled or closer to full. happened a couple more times with the last being on 3/5/14. *tr

My car stalls with a full tank of gas. the stall occurs after slowing down and coming to a stop. after placing the car in park and trying several times to start the car, the engine finally starts. i put it into drive, but it doesn't engage immediately. i then have to repeat by turning the car off and going thru the start and engage several times. this has happened several times while driving on the road with cars behind me. i get real panicky and don't feel at all safe with this situation. i noticed the connection between the full tank and the stalling after quite some time as the owner of the vehicle. i did some online research to find that many other owners have the same problem with the 300, charger and magnum. i've also read articles online stating that you investigated the issue and found chrysler at fault. with this finding, i would like chrysler to fix the problem. at this time i have not contacted chrysler as i'd like to find out if they will indeed fix the problem with a replacement. after all, this is what they said they would do. i also read they were mailing owners, but since owning the car since 2013, i have not received any contact from them concerning the fuel tank issue. what path do you suggest i take to remedy the situation of a fuel tank replacement by chrysler? regards.

I had just picked up the car in question after purchasing at a used car lot then drove it about 20 miles before i stopped for fuel at which time i filled the tank then as i went to pull out into the lane of traffic and began to pick up speed and at about 30 mph the car began stuttering then it died. luckily it started up before the cars coming hit me. i have since filed it up several times before and realized that it was doing the same thing after each time i filled up , i then began doing some searching on the internet and seen that others were having the same issues so that led me to file this complaint. can someone please look into this before someone gets seriously hurt? *tr

I have been experiencing a safety hazard with my 2006 dodge magnum rt for several months. when the vehicle is filled up with gas it will stall out when driving down the road. this happens regardless of what speed you are going and occurs every time the car is filled up. i have done extensive research and found that i am not alone with this issue and that the warranty was extended for certain vin codes through chrysler. unfortunately my vin was not a part of that warranty extension even though i am experiencing the exact issue that this covers. there have been several times where the car has stalled while driving in traffic which could have resulted in a major accident, luckily i was able to avoid any collisions. maybe next time i won't be so lucky though... *tr

After fill up, my magnum begins to jerk and stalled in the intersection. the car was unable to start for 3 min.. after starting and stopping for 15 min it began to operate normal.i notice this only happens during fill ups. *tr

The car runs erratically or stalls after filling the gas tank all the way up. this only lasts for a few miles and then the car runs fine. i was told that this was a known issue and there was a tsb issued, but no recall. if i stop filling a few gallons before the tank is full, there are no problems. i was recently told that chrysler was extending the warranties on these tanks (pe13016), but was told by my dealer that the extended warranty does not apply to my car, but couldn't tell me why. *tr

Normal fill up at costco 91 octane - started to drive away the magnum srt8 stalled and the vehicle behind me leaving the parking lot hit me. could not get it to run correctly for about 30 minutes. my wife and baby in the car very worried.

Low fuel light came on, stopped at a gas station to fill up. i filled the tank full up to when the gas-refill-nozzle clicked off, and then a little more - up to the next whole dollar. recapped my tank, and began to drive away. the engine bucked a bit then stalled. was a bit harder than normal to get it restarted. then slowed for the first traffic signal and it suddenly died in busy traffic! hard to get it restarted. pulled away from the stop light and it bucked and stuttered some more and then cleared up in a couple miles. this has happened about 3 times since this behavior started. two times for sure the car was running during the refill. i will pay attention in the future to see if it only happens during refill with it still running. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. the contact stated that while merging into traffic at 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. additionally, the vehicle would sporadically stall when the fuel tank was filled to capacity. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed, which located the failure at the computer central system. the computer was replaced however the failure was not corrected. the manufacturer advised the contact that nhtsa action number pe13016 (fuel system, gasoline) was not honored under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.

Qhen i fill up my gas tank the car starts to shut off every time i fill it up i have to put like 1/2 a tank so it doesn't shut off on me when im driving

After filing the fuel tank, the engine will sputter and stall. when it first began to happen to me, it seemed like i was getting bad gas. now i know that this occurs primarily after i make a left turn and is due to a part that is inside the fuel tank. the part fails and the result is this problem with the engine stalling. this is a known problem with older magnums, chargers, and chrysler 300's. it is dangerous!! this has happened to be on interstate 95 and just when i got into the travel lane the engine died. i think the left turn i made was a few mile before i got to the entrance ramp and it caught me off-guard. i was lucky to be able to pull over and get onto the shoulder. this is a design failure and is not normal wear & tear. all of the older cars mentioned here can be affected. i assume you have received prior complains about this issue. dodge is no help, but should be required to fix this problem. thanks. *js

After fill up and not topping off tank car will sputter or even die and have to be restarted several times for the first 10 or so mile. my car has died several times in busy traffic almost causing a rear end collision from cars behind me. *tr

After filling up the gas tank my car died about a half dozen times. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled recurringly. the low engine oil warning light would illuminate when the failure occurred however, there was adequate oil in the vehicle. a local mechanic performed a diagnostic but was unable to generate a failure code. the mechanic advised the contact that the failure could have been caused by a fuel system failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 96,000 and the current mileage was 115,000.

I had just filled up my gas tank and upon leaving the gas station and reaching the first stop light (~100 yards from the gas station) my car stalled. i was able to restart the car following a couple of tries. this was the only time this has happened to me in this car. *tr

After refueling vehicle to a full tank of gas, the vehicle will stall when driving. in some cases multiple times. there is no warning prior to the stall and the timing of the incident seems random - sometimes right away after fill-up, sometimes a few miles down the road. only occurs at full tank condition but does occur every time the tank is filled. when the vehicle stalls it is difficult to start back up - power steering and power brakes are lost during this time. once the vehicle has traveled 10-15 miles the problem seems to go away - until filling the gas tank again. it seems like an emissions systems type of problem - maybe part of the fuel tank venting system. there are other reports of this problem with similar type of vehicles (chrysler 300, dodge charger) on the internet. *tr

My car falls under the gas tank replacement program but the dealers keep putting off the replacement stating no parts availability. i was recently nearly hit while making a legal u turn when the car stalled twice leaving me sideways across 2 lanes of oncoming traffic. i do not want to sell my car but the situation is scary enough for me to park the car. but waiting a year for the part is ridiculous. *tr

V8 engine repeatedly and unpredictably stalls and loses power during driving and turning situations. recovers after 1-2 seconds in some instances, stalls completely and is difficult to restart in others. produces extremely hazardous and dangerous situations in traffic and at intersections. local dodge dealer (hall dodge) has had car for six weeks+ and has failed to correctly diagnose & repair. this appears to be a common very dangerous problem involves fuel tank valve, as it is more prevalent (see many online posts of identical symptoms since 2005 and before) after full fuel fill and persists until unrestricted fuel appears to have been used to sufficient degree. dealer has replaced unlikely items such as sunroof module and the abs module in futile and inept attempts to skirt the real issue. someone is going to die in one of these cars when it stalls --chrysler dodge is 100% knowledgeable of this defect in many of their cars, and will not acknowledge or make any attempt to correct it. we implore nhtsa to intervene immediately! posted 27 feb 2013. *tr
