Low fuel light came on, stopped at a gas station to fill up. i filled the tank full up to when the gas-refill-nozzle clicked off, and then a little more - up to the next whole dollar. recapped my tank, and began to drive away. the engine bucked a bit then stalled. was a bit harder than normal to get it restarted. then slowed for the first traffic signal and it suddenly died in busy traffic! hard to get it restarted. pulled away from the stop light and it bucked and stuttered some more and then cleared up in a couple miles. this has happened about 3 times since this behavior started. two times for sure the car was running during the refill. i will pay attention in the future to see if it only happens during refill with it still running. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. the contact stated while driving approximately 15 mph the vehicle stall without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and it was taken to a dealer. the mechanic could not diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
After fuelling car drive a few miles car stalls turns on then drive and stalls again. *tr
The mileage and date are approximates. the most recent occurrence was on 4/5/14 at about 69980 miles. when i fill up my gas tank, without "topping off", the engine will stall shortly afterwards when i am driving at low speeds. this will happen several time until the car has had time to sit for a period of time (hours to overnight). this usually occurs when i come to an intersection or i am moving at low speeds. *tr
After filing the fuel tank, the engine will sputter and stall. when it first began to happen to me, it seemed like i was getting bad gas. now i know that this occurs primarily after i make a left turn and is due to a part that is inside the fuel tank. the part fails and the result is this problem with the engine stalling. this is a known problem with older magnums, chargers, and chrysler 300's. it is dangerous!! this has happened to be on interstate 95 and just when i got into the travel lane the engine died. i think the left turn i made was a few mile before i got to the entrance ramp and it caught me off-guard. i was lucky to be able to pull over and get onto the shoulder. this is a design failure and is not normal wear & tear. all of the older cars mentioned here can be affected. i assume you have received prior complains about this issue. dodge is no help, but should be required to fix this problem. thanks. *js
After fill up and not topping off tank car will sputter or even die and have to be restarted several times for the first 10 or so mile. my car has died several times in busy traffic almost causing a rear end collision from cars behind me. *tr
After refueling vehicle to a full tank of gas, the vehicle will stall when driving. in some cases multiple times. there is no warning prior to the stall and the timing of the incident seems random - sometimes right away after fill-up, sometimes a few miles down the road. only occurs at full tank condition but does occur every time the tank is filled. when the vehicle stalls it is difficult to start back up - power steering and power brakes are lost during this time. once the vehicle has traveled 10-15 miles the problem seems to go away - until filling the gas tank again. it seems like an emissions systems type of problem - maybe part of the fuel tank venting system. there are other reports of this problem with similar type of vehicles (chrysler 300, dodge charger) on the internet. *tr
V8 engine repeatedly and unpredictably stalls and loses power during driving and turning situations. recovers after 1-2 seconds in some instances, stalls completely and is difficult to restart in others. produces extremely hazardous and dangerous situations in traffic and at intersections. local dodge dealer (hall dodge) has had car for six weeks+ and has failed to correctly diagnose & repair. this appears to be a common very dangerous problem involves fuel tank valve, as it is more prevalent (see many online posts of identical symptoms since 2005 and before) after full fuel fill and persists until unrestricted fuel appears to have been used to sufficient degree. dealer has replaced unlikely items such as sunroof module and the abs module in futile and inept attempts to skirt the real issue. someone is going to die in one of these cars when it stalls --chrysler dodge is 100% knowledgeable of this defect in many of their cars, and will not acknowledge or make any attempt to correct it. we implore nhtsa to intervene immediately! posted 27 feb 2013. *tr
Vehicle stalled shortly after refueling when beginning to accelerate after having been stopped at intersection. this problem continued to occur regularly after refueling. it occurred both when the vehicle is stopped and also while in motion. restarting the vehicle was sometimes difficult. once restarted the vehicle frequently surged while driving for several minutes of operation until returning to normal. this problem and its associated symptoms should be considered as a safety risk. as of april 2013, i no longer own this vehicle. my wife presently experiences this problem with her 2006 dodge magnum srt-8 with the 6.1l engine. she has also filed a vehicle safety complaint. *tr
I started having problems with my 2006 magnum srt8 this past winter. with absolutely no warning while driving approximately 10 mph in drive, the engine cutoff and lost all power completely. i also lost all power steering and power brakes. thank goodness i was on a back road. all of the warning lights flashed on and off and then the check engine light came on. i had to put the car back in park, completely turn off the ignition and restart the car. it restarted without any problems. i drove a few more miles and the exact same thing happened. again, lucky i was on a back road!! i made it home and it stalled a 3rd time just as i pulled it into the garage. again, completely random while driving!!!! i took it to my local dealership who could not re-create the problem. i paid for the 60,000 mile service and did not have issues again until this past weekend when the same issue occurred 5 times in 2 days. again, completely random while driving!!. dangerous. these particular times occurred after filling the gas tank. i have read multiple similar complaints. something needs to be done before someone gets killed on the road. i will be taking my car into the dealership once again for diagnostics. i am an anesthesiologist and it doesn't take to one to realize that this is a serious safety issue that needs complete attention and a complete investigation. i love my car but i do not feel safe driving this vehicle. dodge and nhtsa, you cannot ignore this. please feel free to contact me as i will be contacting you. *tr
The car stalls, shuts off while driving. had both of the top 02 sensor replaced. a repair told me my oil pressure sensor was bad got that replaced. call the service center and tell them the problem and they said my computer needed to be reset. that didn't work. *tr
After filling the gas tank, the car stalled at the next 3 intersections and ran rough once on moderate acceleration. no engine codes or warning lights appeared. engine was able to be restarted nut only when depressing the accelerator pedal slightly. would not re-start otherwise. problem resolved itself after about 15 minutes of operation. since then, issue has re-surfaced approximately 6 times with similar symptoms; occasionally with engine stalling while the car is slowing down but still moving. all time are associated with the first few minutes of operation after filling the gas tank. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and could not be restarted immediately. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but the failure could not be replicated. the failure recurred numerous times over the course of eight months. the vehicle was taken to three different dealers but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the manufacturer was notified and offered the contact eight oil changes at their expense. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 111,000 and the current mileage was 127,000.
Immediately after filling gas tank with new fuel the following has happened several times: the car will start at the gas station but shortly after leaving the gas station (within a block or when getting back onto the highway from a rest stop) the car will stall. the stall can happen at a traffic light or even on the way to reaching highway speeds. at this time my solution to the problem has been to rev the engine in neutral for a bit after getting the gas tank filled with fresh gasoline. *tr
After filling up my fuel tank and driving approximately 1/2 mile, the engine died. restarted engine and it died again. after the third restart it continued to run. after having this occur approximately 12-15 times over the next 6 months, i discovered that if i fill it no more than14 gallons maximum, the problem will not occur. the problem is exactly what was reported in pe13016, however i have had the engine die at both low speeds and high speeds (50-65 mph). *tr
The magnum continually stalls after fill up. we have made a concerted effort not to over fill the vehicle, but it continues to stall for a few miles after fill up. this has been an ongoing issue for almost 20,000 miles now. this is a major safety issue. either my wife or i have almost been rear-ended due to stalling in traffic. the dealer says they can fix it for around $1400. this should be a safety recall, not something dumped on the owner. when you go to all the mopar blogs, this issue is common on all 06 - 07 chargers, magnums and chrysler 300s. they know it's the check valve, and know it was a poor design, but too bad consumer. *tr
My dodge magnum for the last year " total of 4 times" has stalled only after refueling along with the steering wheel locking. there is no warning !. no engine light.! the car just shuts down . but this last time it almost caused a accident. too close to a disaster. i had my child in the car . i have read the complaints on this site. and i know i am not the only one this happens to. why is this not being addressed !!! i have never had this happen to me with any other car i have owned. i baby my car with servicing . i have 134,282 miles. i haven't had a issue with the car ever. until now. i believe it's a faulty part. this is a life threatening issue. as well as the psychical stress not knowing when my car fails me. why is this not a recall with the dodge magnum fuel system? which causes a vapor lock without warning. does someone have to loose a life to get this addressed ? *tr
The car stalls at stop lights mostly but has recently started stalling on the freeway. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. the contact stated that while traveling 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was able to be restarted and resumed normal function. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Valve seat in 5.7 hemi dropped and damaged engine while driving, coasted car to a stop and turned off. tried to start but ran really rough or wouldn't start. no check engine light or warning, vehicle is undrivable. when this happened felt like the car was gonna blow up and engine overheated. *tr
At 66,000 miles this car started to stall during low speed operation, around 30-40 mph. this continued on with multiple attempted, expensive tries by the dealer to fix it, including the unnecessary removal of a remote start system. part of the fix attempts included installing a doorbell like button that i pushed whenever the event happened in an attempt for them to fault isolate. they replaced the ignition switch because it appeared to them that the system had been shut off. after that it was probably the control computer but no guarantee on that. computer has not been replaced. june 2014 this car had the gas tank replaced at a part of the non-recall 'extended warranty on the gas tank' fuel tank replacement. the car responded with a increase in horsepower/performance but not better stall performance. after a week or two the stall conditions returned and are more dangerous than ever. the car will stall pulling into traffic, it will stall during open road running (now at virtually any speed), or sitting at a traffic light. when it stalls, if the car has enough momentum it will restart and occasionally bolt forward due to the computer sensing the stall, especially dangerous in parking lots. a further feature is that if the 'check engine' light was on prior to the stall, it will be extinguished and no codes remain in the computer.. *tr
After filling my car and driving on the 710 freeway, while getting on the freeway the car just stalled. the steering got hard to turn as the vehicle was stalled. i managed to cruise to the side of the road and got the vehicle to start again. while driving it did it 2 more times until my gas started to go down. this happens almost every time i fill up the vehicle. *tr
The first time a stall occurred i was stopped at a light when the car stalled. it took several tries to get the car started. the check engine light came on but then went off after several minutes. since then, the car has stalled on multiple occasions both while driving at highway speeds and at idle. some of the stalls are only a split second, with multiple dash warning lights appearing before the car starts again on its own. unlike other complaints i have seen, it does not occur only after filling up the tank but is instead completely random. i have taken the car to the dealership and independent mechanics on at least six occasions. the dodge dealer had the car for a week on one occasion and was still unable to determine the problem. since they have been unable to replicate the issue the problem has not been fixed. not only is this problem extremely frustrating since mechanics have been unable to find a solution, it is also dangerous since power steering and brakes stop working when the car is stalled. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without any warning. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred multiples times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 83,000 and the current mileage was 86,200.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 63,000.
Had just filled up with fuel when taking off to cross the street the car died and had to be pushed to the side of the road. after a while it started up but died numerous times then was fine until next fill up. after a few days it started losing power when driving down the road then power came back.. this is unsafe due to the car slows down fast then powers back up. *tr
While driving my magnum, the engine stopped completely. the car has done this since i have had it. it has been to three dodge dealerships, costing me hundreds of dollars, and the problem is never fixed. it seems that the car stops mostly when i first drive off in the morning and after filling up with gas. *tr
I am the second owner of this vehicle purchased in 2007. at 60,000 i had the rack in pinion replaced at about 1000 dollars, next was the cooling fan at 75,000 miles (cost 700.00 dollars). then at about 90,000miles the water pump, thermostat, tension pulley and timing belt had to be changed for a grand total of 1300 hundred. i am now at 100,000 miles. i have had suspension issues since about 40,000 miles have maintained oil changes and maintenance. this seems unfair! *tr
Engine computer that talks to key to determine "match" dies and shuts off vehicle while driving. computer had to be replaced. 14000 miles later (two years later) computer that was replaced does the exact same thing and dodge will not replace as a defective, but rather charging 1200 bucks. extremely dangerous as it randomly just cuts off engine while driving at any speed and can be rear ended. this is not a part that "wears". and this is not a part that should ever have to be replaced or go bad. *tr
After filling the car unpredictably stalls until about 1/2 gallon us used from the tank. dealer quoted $1500 when incident first occured. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. the contact stated that the vehicle overheated and stalled. the contact stated that the failure was recurring. the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired, but the dealer could not diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000.
