System will beep, dash lights and gauges will flash and go dead. door looks also stop working. one incident of battery being drained to nothing, no emergency standby power for starting. many reports of the bcm module being the cause. can be temporarily fixed by pulling the iod fuse to reset the bcm. dodge tsb 08-040-04 reported to outline the problem. replacing the bcm not always reported to fix. flashing the bcm(updating code) more commonly reported to fix, also mention of corroded contacts being related. repair is hard to determine as any work done on the bcm will result in a reset where it will temporarily start working again. *kb

We locked the vehicle with the remote, saw the door closing, and when we returned, the passenger sliding door was wide open! since the original failure date, this happens continuously. the door closes almost all the way, and then reverses, and opens up. we have to manually shut the sliding door (difficult) in order to close and lock it. did not notify manufacturer or dealer. *tr

Dash light will flicker then go out then come back on, so will the radio at the same time. also engine will cut out but not always at the same time. also sensor light will come on. *tr

The power locks stoped working. they will not luck/unluck with the interior door switch nor with the remote on the key. the tail gate lock will luck/unlock with the key remote only. removing the iod fuse for a while will correct the porblem for a day or two. *tr

The passenger side rear door malfunctions while opening using the power open option. it opens part way and then stops or closes again. the driver side does not open at all using the power open option, only by opening manually. i am concerned for the safety of rear passengers entering/exiting the van and being struck/trapped by the door when it changes directions. it is caused by a short in the wiring harness that powers the doors which could potentially cause a fire.

Power door locks no longer function. passenger power window no linger functions. *tr

Right side van door stopped closing and opening correctly. it gets stuck part-way. now it doesn't close properly or lock, you have to work hard to close it. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan with sliding door electrical problems and locking problems. worry about doors opening while grandchildren are in the rear seats. *tr

Power locks don't work. the doors should automatically lock when i reach 15 miles per hour, but they don't lock. even the manual door lock switch doesn't work, so the doors are open all the time. *tr

Door lock function failure. can't find a fix. have to reset pcm to get locks to function, and can work temporarily for 1 to several times, and always fails again. *tr

we are constantly having problems with the power door locks failing which is a huge issue with two small children and them being able to pull on the door handle and have a door open without warning. we are also having issues with the dash lights not working therefore you cannot see anything at night . . . not the speedometer, not the fuel gauge, not the heat controls, nothing!!! *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan. rear sliding power door lock failure. driver's side manual lock/un-lock will not unlock sliding door nor will remote. it happens frequently and to fix the problem, you have to remove the iod fuse for a few seconds and put it back in. *kb

I found on the internet that a bought 63 complaints about the power sliding doors on my 05 dodge grand caravan well i hate to be 64 but i was led to the problem in side the wiring harness there is a red and black wire the door will stop working when the wire breaks and gets exposed there are a lot of complaints that these wires need to be fixed. *tr

I just bought a used 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt. its my second day and the headlight would not turn on when i rotated the selector. the parking and fog lights worked fine. i also noticed when i had the fog lights on with the parking lights and then rotated the selector to headlights, the dashlights turned off. i came back an hour later and tried the headlights and they worked fine. many complaints on; http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/2005_dodge_grand_caravan_random_headlamp_issue. *tr

The automatic door locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt "short out" regularly. the keyless entry does not unlock or lock the doors, the vehicle does not lock the doors automatically when shifting into drive or reverse, and the automatic doors do not work when the door locks are malfunctioning. i can pull the iod fuse and reset the locks, but it is a temporary fix to the problem that does not work for en extended period of time. i am taking the vehicle to the dealership for repair. i am reporting this problem as it seems that many people are experiencing the same issue. this is a safety concern that seems to need resolution. i am attaching links to two forums that express the same concerns. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/grand_caravan/2005/electrical/electric_door_lock_failure.shtml http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock *ln

Power door locks quit working. this seems to be a major problem with this year of vehicle. *tr

Lights off during operation.... off at turn on and now will not come on no matter what i do.... told by several they are having same trouble... real safety issue the first time as it went out while driving down dark road. *tr

Door locks on 2005 dodge caravan sequence on their on and now occasionally work. *tr

My dodge mini van began to make a strange noise but i did not have the money to take it back to the dealer as they had already ripped me off for a previous failure of the egr valve (at about 30,000 miles). after that huge bill i decided to ask a friend of mine from church who is a certified mechanic to listen to my dodge. he said the power steering pump was wearing out and it would eventually need to be replaced! i could not believe this at only 65,000 miles. i wrote a letter to the chrysler corporation and had a call from one of their reps. he refused to consider that chrysler had any problems with the production of the mini van. i was supposed to call my warranty folks (warranty already out) as my power steering should not have failed. hello---does this not mean that chrysler has major responsibility in this?? as soon as i can call about my warranty i will contact the warranty company. the bottom line is- chrysler will not accept any responsibility for the safety or quality of their products. i would not have another chrysler product if they were being given away for free. when their vehicles are made unsafe to drive they will not help you or accept responsibility for their own product defects.

Power door locks failed on 2005 grand caravan sxt. this is a safety issue which appears to be an ongoing problem with these dodge vehicles. *tr

No specific events prior, just parked car for the evening. car started but no headlights or interior gauge lights including gear indicator, also no electric door locks. after several restarts all work but check engine light is on. no check engine light now. cruise control light flickers on and off. this happened a few times when the car was new and the dealer was able to stop it by replacing the computer. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan, 7 passenger, auto door locks fail to function. resetting iod fuse temp fix, then all locksfail again. *tr

Door locks and power sliding door malfunctions, or total non-operation. *tr

Power door locks inoperable, safety issue if need to open locks in an emergency. can be corrected by pulling iod fuse but solution only lasts several days. have seen on internet some success if dealer reprograms bcm. *tr

Electric locks: after 36000 miles and no more warranty on the vehicle the power locks quit working. i found that pulling the battery would resolve the issue for a short while but it would come back again and that doing this could cause issues with how the engine ran for a while and of course the radio and clock would have to be reset. after researching the issue i found that this is known issue and that it would require a firmware upgrade on the vehicle on board computer. the manufacterer nor dealer would do this at no cost. it cost me $85.00 to get the update. i do not feel this is right and only hope that others will file complaints to get dodge to correct this and re-imburse their customers who have had to do this. as for me, this is my third dodge and will no longer buy another. *tt

Problem dodge grand caravan handicap conversion van:on a friday afternoon 2010 this van stopped in a moving lane ny thruway outside of the buffalo area. traffic was bumper to bumper, stop and go with many heavy trucks.after 2 911 calls, the thruway flatbed tow truck did not reach us for nearly a half hour. no cops came at all. my husband, in his large motorized wheelchair, and i (the driver) were stopped with traffic moving in the 2 lanes from behind us.my blinkers were on but traffic had to realize we were totally stopped and then useother lanes, including the breakdown lane to our right, to go around us! thankfully,we were not hit by these gigantic trucks.we are alive to tell the story. it is now 10 days later. the first repair shop and then, the next day till now, a dealer repair shop have worked on the van. two sensors were replaced and then the entire computer was replaced. both repairs did not make the van start. the dealer shop was in contact with the chrysler/dodge corporation. the wiring harness was opened. part of the problem was found. i don't know all the details of their investigation. waiting for my vehicle to be fixed, my handicapped husband and i have now amassed $1000 in hotel/etc. bills due to this incident. and, this cost does not yet include fixing our vehicle. finally, the dealer repair shop arranged to have a rental van delivered to our hotel (our cost) so we could finally get the special wheel chair and drive home 8 hours. and thus far all the costs are mine. i now have another $1000 rental fee facing me because the wheelchair van to get was rented for 8 days, on the dealer repair shops arrangements. a fee would be charged for "early" return of the wheelchair rental. note that my husband had only a borrowed manual, non-tilting wheelchair for the duration. please help us sort this out and save others from the stress and fees we have endured for this. i am now also afraid to drive that dodge van back home on a busy highway, or anywhere. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan sxt with 3.8liter engine has dash light cluster flicker, headlight flicker and with every dash light lighting up and gauges going dead, then reappearing. dealer tried to say it was battery, replaced it, then they said alternator, replaced it. after research, it appears they did not check body control module. my research indicates this is a significant problem, and no auto parts recyclers in north texas can keep bcm's in stock because of the demand. significantly, the dealers want to charge $300-400 for the part, then $100 for programming it. my research also indicates the manufacturer may have been aware of the problem and superceded the part with an improvement. the old part number 4692158aa has been replaced with 4692158ab. i think this part should be replaced free of charge on a recall as the problem appears to be nationwide based on the websites i have read comments. further, many dealers are apparently taking advantage of the customers by selling them parts they do not need because they are not testing the bcm or voluntarily choosing to find the problem after the customer has fed the dealer coffers for batteries and alternators, etc. *tr

Recently my power door locks quit on my 2005 dodge grand caravan, when trying to activate it either by my key or from the door panel. i gave it to my mechanic who fixed the problem.. the same problem recurred a week later. i was quite upset for paying money for a simple problem which was not fixed. the mechanic told me to disconnect the power from the battery (for at least 15 minutes) and then reconnect the battery. the power door locks now work. however this problem could happen again. i did a search on this problem on the web and found many other people complaining about this exact problem on the 2005 grand caravan. the correct solution seems to be going to a dealer. but i will not pay for a manufacturing defect ( and this defect is definitely a safety and security problem). this problem should be under a recall order. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan. the headlights will work fine, then not work at all. sometimes if i move the switch back and forth several times real fast the lights will work again. sometimes lights work for weeks without problems. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that when attempting to use the key fob to lock or unlock the doors, the doors would not respond and the lights would not function. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where several fuses were replaced but the failure recurred. the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer where an actuator for the sliding doors was replaced but the failure recurred shortly after the contact retrieved the vehicle from the dealer. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 94,000.

I love our van as far as convenience and features, but have had progressive electrical issues. the first issue was the automatic sliding doors stopped working. we had to switch off the power and use them manually. the interior light at the driver's side slide shorted out. every now and then it decides to work. then the door locks on both of the slides stopped working. some times the door locks will not unlock the lift gate and we have to open it with the key. the front map lights work some of the time. my front windows have stopped working at different times and the begin working again. sometimes the things have reset if i had to get my battery jumped off or when i replaced my battery. the most concerning thing to me is that my right rear brake light and turn signal lights keep blowing. i have replaced them numerous times and the last time it still did not work. now i just don't have a light. not sure how expensive this will be to fix. very frustrated at the continuous and complex issues that are going on. seems that there should be a recall since i have heard of various others that i know having these type of issues. *tr

The power door locks don't work. tailgate is stuck in unlocked position. all other locks have to be operated manually, there is no way to lock the tailgate manually. removing and reinserting the fuse fixed the problem for several weeks at a time. eventually removing the fuse stopped working. i researched and found that there was a service bulletin on this that the repair was to flash the body controller. this issue also is causing a p0135 code which is for an o2 sensor heater. this code comes up even after replacing the o2 sensor. this issue is a safety concern with the tailgate not being able to lock which is an easy way for someone to get into the vehicle and either carjack it or steal it, or belongings. as for the p0135 code it has caused me to chase money after an emissions problem that really does not exist. the controller can only be flashed by a dodge service center and they first want to charge to diagnose an issue that is commonly known about, and then pay for the fix. i need to get the p0135 code cleared in order to pass the emissions test and get the license sticker, otherwise i cannot drive this vehicle. *tr

Doors will not lock or unlock electronically on door switches or key fob. can reset iod fuse by pulling out of fuse box and re-inserting; electric door locks will work for a few days then problem comes back. *tr

Vehicle shuts down without warning;power door locks inoperative at times;premature failure front stabilizer bushings;premature failure outer tie rod end. no repairs made but estimates have been obtained. *tr

The door automatic door locks quit working. you cannot open the vehicle without the key. the locks no longer lock automatically when you get up to speed. i have checked on car complaints.com and this appears to be a very common problem that dodge is refusing to acknowledge. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that all of the door locks failed. the contact had to disconnect and reconnect the battery in order to get the door locks to function. the failure was sporadic and the driver's side door could intermittently be opened manually with the key. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was not corrected. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 56,000.

We own a 2005 dodge grand caravan with 74.000 miles on it. the power locks will repeatedly lock when i use my keyless remote entry or the overhead console buttons to open the sliding doors. these doors should be unlocking but instead everything is locking. while i'm driving, i can hear the clicking of the locks "re-locking" even though they are in the locked position. this happens when the rear wiper is running or i press and release the window control button. sometimes i hit the power lock button on the driver door to lock all doors but nothing locks. i have had this happen before, but for shorter periods of time. with 5 doors of entry, i never know if my car is truly locked. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan. last night my wife and i were traveling on i-15 from las vegas at aprox.time 9pm in the dark and our headlights turned-off and then turned on randomly. this was an awful experience driving like this for more than 100 mile in the mojave desert. cars thought i was flashing them. i was driving in the slow lane at one point behind a trucker, i believe he thought i was flashing him. i passed him and then he got on my bumper and he flashed his lights on off several times at me..i was scared... this should be a recall....its not safe.!! ....an accident could have happened not being able to see the road...
