We have classified the 241 complaints from 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The brain of the van has gone bad in under 8 years, causing van to read bad o2 sensor reading even after changing them. this causes the vehicle to stutter and idle rough and die while driving. when making repeated stops shutting down and turning vehicle back on, makes the conditions worse. it's been narrowed down to brain as automatic door locks do not work at all. whether from key fob or using switch inside vehicle. this was family vehicle driven daily, but refuse to put kids in unsafe car. *tr

The power door locks on this 2005 dodge grand caravan just stopped working. key fob sounds horn when locking, but locks do not engage. very dangerous for travel as locks do not engage when vehicle reaches 18 mph. *tr
Power locks do not work with door switches or key fob. key fob only unlocks rear hatch. all other locks must be locked and unlocked manually. i have tried internet suggestions all ending in the same results. after hearing of other complains on this issue, i hope i don't get locked in and cant get out!!! *tr
Doors won't lock with fob have to lock them each by hand also automatic locking of all doors at app. 20 miles an hour does not work either . i read about pulling 20 amp fuse out then putting it back in it worked . it lasted about 2 weeks then happened again, did the same thing with the fuse it worked again for about 3 weeks then stopped working again, pulled fuse and put back in it worked again for about 2 weeks. *tr
Driver's side automatic sliding door only opens a few inches and then stops. the door will not close automatically at all i hear are loud clicks like the locks are being engaged. the door can only be opened or closed manually. the problem occurs every time either of the 2 inside buttons are pressed or the key fob button is pressed. the doors are clearly not geared for manual opening/closing, that is, they are extremely difficult to open or close manually. this is major a concern as it is very difficult to get out of the vehicle for someone sitting in any of the rear seats. *tr
Purchased vehicle used. electric doors would not work. even with the switch they would not make a sound. after reading on the internet that virtually every dodge owner has this problem i pulled the bcm and iod fuses for a few seconds and put them back in. everything now works but my research leads me to believe the fix is only temporary. driving through some neighborhoods and night with doors unlocked or condition unknown is very dangerous. i must inspect every lock before driving the vehicle and make sure they are locked. i travel the country working for the us air force and door locks become a great concern in some areas. *tr
Power locks failed, they did not work with the key buttons or by pushing the lock button on the door. i took the iod fuse out and put it back in and it is working for now. *tr
I pushed the button to open the sliding doors and there have been so many times when the door will close without having been told to. typically, the sensor will catch when there is a hand or a child pushing it back open, but there have been occasions, like today that it started to open, then about 18 inches after it had begun opening that it reverses and closes and does not have the sensor kick in. today the door slammed into my left shoulder. i had to use all my strength to push it off my shoulder and to override the motor to get it to open. i am so grateful my 2 year old was still on the shipping cart because that would have crushed his hand if he wasn't able to get out of the way. most times it is the passenger side siding door that does this. last week was the first time that the drivers side door did the same thing, which pinned my wrist between the door and the frame, and tried to close on it twice. i am personally afraid that one of these times the door is going to forcefully close and cause some severe damage to one of my children. *tr
This vehicle is a death trap waiting to happen. the van was going 65 mph down the freeway when all of a sudden all of the electric went off, including the power steering and power brakes. if this is not considered a safety hazard, please let me know what is. i have a family of 5 including my husband and this is our main port of transportation since he was unemployed over two years ago. we are now getting back on our feet but cannot afford to trade this vehicle in. by the looks of the complaints, there are 800 or so more in regards to the electric issue. when is this going to get taken care of? when someone gets killed? we are operating ticking time bombs and it is just a matter of time before someone is seriously injured. i have had several people look at this van and they can't seem to find the problem, however, one person did say it needed an additional ground wire added, and it has helped, but still did not fix the problem as the electric is going in and out. please have this vehicle recalled before someone is hurt. *tr
Power door locks stopped working completely from both interior switches and key fob. will not lock or unlock any of the 5 doors from interior. manually able to lock and unlock doors individually. unable to lock back hatch with key or from inside vehicle. safety problem with 1 and 3 year old that need to have doors locked while vehicle is in motion. also unsafe for young children to be standing outside vehicle while unlocking driver's door with key then manually d/s rear door. children are unnecessarily standing outside vehicle while doors are manually unlocked. *tr
Automatic door locks do not work. i disconnect the battery and reconnect it and it seems to correct itself for a day or two, but then goes back to being defective again. i'm aware of several other people with the same problem with this model. this should be a recall. *tr
Auto locks are not working for driver, passenger and 2 rear sliding doors. unable to remotely lock/unlock the car and have to manually lock each door separately. if battery is disconnected, it works for a few days and stops working again. *tr
Auto lock and auto doors open failed. this happened about a year ago too. resetting bcm module by removing battery lead for a few seconds fixed problem. problem is back. i consider this unsafe since doors do not auto lock once vehicle is in motion. this should be a free fix but dealer charges. i have read refreshing the computer fixes the problem. dealer charges when it should be free since this is a safety issue. *tr
Our door locks stopped working with both the unlock button and the remote key. we cannot unlock our doors unless we do it manually, and there is now no way to lock the back hatch. there is only one key hole and this is a major safety issue. *tr
Power door locks are not working. unable to lock or unlock doors with either key remote or button located on the door. this is a concern because the locks do not engage when vehicle is in mode of travel. this first started in august of 2012 with the passenger sliding door and now both sliding door locks are inoperable as well as the trunk hatch. have tried changing fuses without success. i researched information online and found a site that indicated that a bcm software update could fix the problem but dealerships charge for the update. should there be a fee involved when this mechanism is secondary to a software issue that creates a safety hazard? because safety issues are at hand should this be listed as safety recall? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that after parking and attempted to lock the doors, the power locks on all doors failed to work. the contact was able to lock and unlock the doors manually with the key, however the power locks remained unresponsive. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repair. the manufacturer was made aware or the failure and they stated that the failure was possibly related to the relay in the doors. the failure and current mileages were 38,000. updated 09/11/12*lj updated 09/13/2012 *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that both sliding doors stopped working. the contact stated that when the failure occurred, it prevented the front driver and passenger doors from working as well. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the vehicle needed a software upgrade. the dealer also stated that if they disconnect and reconnect the battery, it will temporarily correct the problem. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 59,000.
The electric door locks completely quit working. we tried the pulling of the fuse and unhooking of the battery and that worked. now a few years later here we are again. the electrical locks have completely quit again 09/2014. this van has had one electrical problem after another. our electric windows have gone out at least 3 times and been replaced. we have finally given up replacing and the passenger window won't go down. *tr
Apparently a faulty airbag sensor light means that possibly airbags may not deploy in a collision or accident. i have contacted the dealer from where i purchased the vehicle and also check for recalls via the internet and according to the vin # , it is not listed, but over 300,000 2005 grand caravans have. why not mine? *tr
Park lamps do not work. replaced fuses, relay and bulbs. *tr
The vehicle shuts off and all the dash lights and every thing shuts down. *tr
Following the advise of many whom have posted on the following website; http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/2005_dodge_grand_caravan_random_headlamp_issue?pg=3. i am also experiencing problems with my dodge grand caravan. i am currently experiencing problems with the headlights; they shut down by themselves while i am driving. i have also experiences problems with the brakes lights, power windows and the passenger sliding doors. i cannot use the sliding door behind the driver side. it had been permanently shut for the last 3 years, since the last visit to the dodge dealership in miami, florida. they did a dreadful job. *tr
The vehicle is not properly sealed. the grounds were all corroded and letting moisture or salt into components. first thing that happened was all the lights came on and then all went out. couldn't see speed or gears. i have had to replace the basic control module and having the body control module checked out today. everything under the hood is corroding at a fast pace. you can see even the metal on the engine. i hoping my wiring harness is ok. but the tech hasn't gotten that far yet. *tr
Door locks on sliding doors will not work. van has been back to dealer 2 times on this. this is a unsafe condition. *tr
During routine stop, noticed that the door locks would not work. this wasn't a concern at first until i noticed that the doors would not lock when the vehicle was in motion as well. i feel this is a huge safety issue that daimler chrysler is ignoring and leaving families with the burden of repairing this expensive issue. this is a safety issue and nothing else that dodge should fix for its loyal customers. *tr
The power door lock on the driver's side stopped working. it could only be locked/unlocked with the key. then a few weeks later the passenger side slider door lock stopped working. the door became completely inoperable since the it was stuck in the locked position. it could not even be unlocked by manually pulling on the lock...the lock was frozen. then the slider door on the drivers side started to fail intermittently. fortunately it would just remain in the unlocked position so we could still open that door. i was afraid to lock that door manually in case it also became frozen in the locked position and it would be very inconvenient to get my kids into the rear of the van. so i left it unlocked and feared items would be stolen from my vehicle. i also feared that god forbid we were in an accident we wouldn't be able to get out of the vehicle. i read many forums online about having the dealer reprogram the bcm and some people found success with this for around $100. i took my van to a dodge dealer who told me they never heard of that fix for the door locks. so i wound up spending over $1100 to have a latch and 2 power actuators replaced. needless to say i am feeling very ripped off. with so many people out there with this identical complaint, you would think dodge would issue a recall. there is obviously an issue. *jb
All the lights in car lights flickers, radio shut off and on, gages go completely around and car dies out instantly. i had car repaired under warranty back in 2012. i had to have the same issue repaired in march 2015 and now its aug 2015 it is occurring again...
The driver side window stopped working. both sliding doors work only occasionally. most of the time they have to be opened and closed manually. none of the door locks work. i have to open the driver's door with the key then reach over to the other doors and manually pull the locks up to unlock and down to lock. neither the remote nor the internal auto lock works. only the trunk lock works with the remote. *tr
The automatic door locks stop working. this has been discussed on the internet quite a bit. the problem is that the door will not lock or unlock with the key fob or door switch. the also do not automatically lock when the car starts moving thus creating a safety concern for kids riding in the back. removing the negative battery terminal resets it so that it works again briefly. the problem recurs again after a brief time. *tr
Power locks have to be reset by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery every few days. since this apparently is a widespread problem, why hasn't there been a manufacturer recall to fix this defect? *tr
Electric power locks continue to fail. they will not work with the keyless remote or the lock switch inside the drivers side or passengers side door. *jb
The headlights on my 2005 dodge grand caravan would not turn on. only my parking lights would turn on. after several dozen attempts at turning on the low-beam headlights they would finally turn on. this is not the first time this has happened. the headlights on my dodge grand caravan have also failed at night while i have been driving. fortunately, i was only a couple miles from home. the lighting system in this vehicle is not reliable and i would hope the government would examine this matter closely. *tr
Air bag sensor light stays on now and the horn does not work when pressed, but will work when the panic button is pressed. *tr
2005 dodge grand caravan headlight switch will not turn the lights on. you have to keep turning the switch to make it turn on. as you are going down the road at night the lights will flash or they will just turn off. *tr
Key operated electronic door locks ceased to function. can reset by removing iod fuse, but problem seems to come back in a few days or few weeks time..is a huge convience problem manually unlocking passenger doors by reaching to back seat and when you want to load some groceries into rear hatch.. also could be safety issue, especially for someone with disabilities....based on the number of complaints i see, if this can be solved with the dealer reprogramming the computer, this should be a definite safety defect and done at no cost to the owner.. *tr
No interior lights or dashboard light or back wipers or heating control. *tr
The locks keep stop working and it needs to be reset by removing the fuse, read on the internet that almost everybody with this type of van experiences this problem should be a recall. locks finally gave out all the way and will not open anymore. *tr
Dash board lights and interior lights went out came on again for five minutes and went back out. *tr
The automatic locks on the vehicle repeatedly fail. for a while pulling the fuse connect with this system helped and they would work for a period of 1-7 days, now nothing works. dodge doesn't seem to have a solution or to want to work on a solution. *tr
While driving the headlight began to flicker and dim almost to where the light would completely go out. *tr
Sometime when i was driving, my headlights turned off mysteriously. now i cannot get my lowbeams to turn on. high beams, parking lights, fog lights all work. may be an issue with the switch. i believe there is currently an open investigation regarding this issue. *tr
Power door locks stopped working 2 days ago. the key fob and switch on the front doors do not control the locks anymore; they have to be locked and unlocked manually. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the key fob could not lock or unlock the vehicle. the contact also stated that only one of the door locks would unlock the vehicle, but it would cause the alarm to sound. the dealer was not notified of this failure, but the manufacturer was not. the failure mileage was 56,700. updated 01/24/12*lj the consumer stated when the malfunction occurred, the key fob would no longer work and the electric door locks won't work. so, the van remains locked or unlocked. updated 01/25/12
The headlights will go on and off at any time. this happens while driving or while parked for the night. i have replaced the headlight switch on three occasions, first only the switch, next the switch and battery, and then finally the switch and alternator. each repair lasts for a few months then the problem returns. this is a very unsafe condition as it happens at night driving. as this is an intermittent issue i cannot get a true diagnosis. *tr
Power door locks do not work. power on side doors does not open doors. *tr
Power door locks failure! this problem started a month ago when the power-locks just quit working. so i followed the instructions in the car manual where you can reprogram the locks by switching the ignition key 4 times ending in the off position and then after 10 seconds turn the door lock on, a chime will sound, it did but locks still do not work. i thought it might be a fuse so i removed the iod fuse and put it back in 5 sec. the locks started to work again. this lasted about 2 or 3 times and then the problem seems to return eventually. this is a safety concern and the vehicle should be a recall. dodge should be accountable for this and made to correct the problem. *kb
The power door locks are failing regularly. pulling the iod fuse and reinserting resolves the issue for a few hours to a few days, at which time the door locks stop working again. failure prevents key phob, inside lock switch and auto lock features from working. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle was parked when she noticed that she could not lock or unlock the doors using the key fob. the contact had to use the key to manually enter the vehicle. the contact also stated that the lighting on the instrument panel and the brake lights stopped illuminating. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 128,000. the vin was unavailable.
