We have classified the 95 complaints from 2014 Dodge Durango about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Driver side headrest inadvertently deployed while operating vehicle. headrest fastener damage in the process making the fastener unrepairable. dealer states there is no current open recall on this issue even though there even though there are numerous complaints about the same issue online.
My lift gate lamp assembly is retaining water which is causing electrical shorts in my tail lights. this is safety hazard in the state of hawaii which caused me to fail my safety inspection and i cannot register my car.
Rear led litigate light collects water inside unit and burns out the led. this the third time it had happened. light was replaced twice already.
Rear taillight led bar went out after water entered the light bar through small openings and defective weather stripping. the lights on the durango are not sealed good enough to prevent water from entering. the light and the rear camera stopped working for the same reason. this is a defect that originated during production and can cause an accident. the consumer should not be responsible for replacing these parts every couple months because of water damage
The vehicle will not start once driven and turned off. when start is pressed after restarting the vehicle, the vehicle just turns over and don't start. i have taken the vehicle to auto nation dodge several times and the service dept claims they replaced the tpim but the vehicle stills wont start at times and does it more often when restarted
The racetrak lift gate housing has accumulated water and caused brake lights to malfunction.
On 8/24/19 the alternator failed while driving (in motion!!) and the car stopped in the middle of the road shortly after the battery light came on. the battery had just been replaced new that same day. we could not move the car or restart the vehicle to move it and just purchased used on the 21 august 2019, issue that you can not get the car into neutral to move the car. or that there is no a secondary power source so that if the power fails you can still operate the gears and move the car out of the way. the care makes a clanking noise like if the gears were not moving and the car jolted forward and just stopped. really? then couldn't move it thank god it didn't happen on the freeway. saw that there is a recall on this durango for the alternator suddenly failing that exactly what happen but there is no record of that being fixed or being an issue on this model why?
Rear racetrack lighting leaks and led's are burned out
July 14, 2019 - while the dodge durango is in motion, the dash display suddenly went blank, various sensor lights turned on, transmission gear would not shift, and the wiper blades intermittently turned on. similarly problem was experienced in may 2019, when the repair shop identified and replaced a faulty bcm (body control module). i took the vehicle to a local dodge dealership about a month ( june 2019), for the same problem and the dealership identified the wiring harness to be faulty. after some diagnosis, the dealership reset the codes, asked me to drive the vehicle some more to see if the problem reoccurs. it has been a month since i took the vehicle to the dealership and the problem has reoccured several times. i feel this is a real safety issues especially when i have my kids in the car and the electrical issues arises while the vehicle is in motion. this problem is very concerning to me as the problem has occured one time while i was driving on the highway, and three time while driving on city streets. please investigate this matter urgently as i consider this issue to be a serious vehicle problem or hazard. any durango owner and their family could potentially get seriously hurt.
The infotainment system head unit failed causing gps navigation, hvac/blower, compass, and climate temperature control to not function. i had to replace it with a new unit costing $806.25. the warranty was expired. it suddenly did not work one day when i turned the vehicle on in the morning.
The tail light of the vehicle is not sealed and accumulates moisture causing it to short out. the tail light has been replaced 3 time previously by dodge. it has now happened a fourth time and dodge is not standing behind it. the most recent tail light is less than 2 years old.
T36 recall for the alternator directly impacts the performance of the powertrain computer model and requires replacement.
Water continues to leak and pool inside the tail light and has caused some of the led bulbs to go out.
The racetrack tail light will fill with water during a rain storm causing the rear running light to go out. this could pose a serious safety issue if the running lights go out at night. i started noticing this problem on or around 4/12019 and has progressively gotten worse. doing research has lead me to several posts on the internet with others having this same issue. here is just one of the many link talking about this problem. https://www.dodgedurango.net/forums/durango-discussions-2014/42937-poll-water-tail-light-2014-a-26.html
Chexk engine light has been coming on and off for the past few days. got it scanned and the code the comes up is a p052 - faulty oul pressure sensor. after some research i found there are quite a few other models effected by this issue but only certain ones are being repaired without cost to customer. on my dash the oil preasure reads at 85%-100% at idle and stays at 100% when giving it gas.
I purchased my dodge durango brand new in 2014 and never had an issue with it. it is currently in great condition except that i recently took it in for an oil change on 3/9/19. it sat in my driveway until my wife drove it to work the following monday morning. on her way home from work she started to smell an overwhelming burning electrical smell. i drove it back into the dealership where the oil change took place and they outright lied to me telling me it was a plastic bag burning on the catalytic converter. they could not prove it when i asked them to show me. i scheduled an appointment with another dealership for this tuesday. so i did some research to see if anyone has had the issue and the internet is full of these vehicles having the same problem. i noticed that in a fe instances the issue was dud to a recall on the alternator. when i entered my vin number in the nhtsa site, it does not come up as a vehicle that needs the recall completed. why would my 2014 dodge durango be part of that recall? vin [xxx] and also if this is not the issue why would i and so many others have the issue. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Rear racetrack lighting has filled with water from rain and shorted out the l.e.d's.
I was driving on the freeway during a very bad rainstorm at night on january 16th, 2019. i was traveling around 50 mph on the freeway, in the number three lane, when my car shut off, where i lost complete power to my engine. my speedometer dropped from 50 to 30 mph immediately, leaving me with no power, to barely make it to the emergency lane. no power, no brake, no steering-nothing. my horn was also honking, my headlights flashing, windshield wipers attempting to move but unable to, and speakers making weird noises. and to make things even more scary, my 9 year old son was in the car with me. this is an issue that needs to be investigated, and possibly issue a recall. i feel that i am extremely lucky that my son and myself were not severely injured or even killed, with my car shutting off like that without warning. if i had not been able to cruise to the emergency lane, no doubt we would have been struck at a standstill by oncoming traffic, averaging 50-60 mph. i am extremely concerned, and this is a huge safety issue. i brought the car into the dodge dealership, where i was told that it was from the rain and it shorted out my electrical. that's it. that's it? there should be a better explanation, and action taken to prevent something like this from ever happening. that car shutting off without warning from 50 mph to 0 mph on a freeway could have cost my son and i our lives. i am expecting to hear back from dodge regarding this very dangerous problem that occurred, and i have also read about similar complaints with the durango, so i know this is not a fluke. i look forward to hearing from you. thank you.
Rear backup lamp light bar assembly is leaking water. water visibly observed in light bar and causing led's to fade. had it resealed by dealership continued to leak and now light bar has completely failed and no longer turns on, this is a major safety concern as well due to license plate light no longer functioning as well. vehicle is scheduled to go in for repairs regarding a failed light bar and safety issue.
The rear liftgate "race track" light assembly badly collects water. i'm not talking condensation either. after a day of steady rain it almost fills both sides of the light. after one car wash it has about an inch of water in it. it happens any day, any time of the year when ever it's raining. i have to remove the two bottom mounting screws to drain the water out. most of the leds have gone out and i swear i have seen smoke coming from the light once or twice. new from the dealership the light is over $1,000 and i have the extended bumper to bumper warranty which i have found does not cover the replacement even though it is a very widespread issue all over the web. the dealership told me for some reason some peoples warranty covers it and most are rejected. i feel this is a major concern since water and electrical components usually dont get along. i'm wondering how many vehicals must catch fire first before a complaint recall is issued? or do a few people have to be killed first? i personally know four people who have the same issue. this needs to be taken care of for the safety of the driver and all who follow behind us. please read a bit on any of the durango forums, mopar forums, or even on your own database of complaints. i know there are hundreds on there because i read the forums and am putting in a complaint. the two pictures i'm attaching are from one car wash, just ten mintues of periodically having water run down the back of the car filled that much. its unacceptable and you know it is.....so do something about it.
Vehicle accelerated without driver input, including going up a hill without driver pressing accelerator. engine redlined while stopped at a traffic light without driver input. vehicle put into neutral, but engine revving would not decrease, and then driver put vehicle into park which continued to rev at high rpms, but vehicle would then not shift out of park. vehicle was turned off and then back on after 45 to 60 seconds, but vehicle continued to rev engine at high rpms and showed that vehicle was in 8th gear. approximately 30 minutes later, vehicle would not turn on. tried to turn vehicle on and it would turn itself off without trying to start.
While vehicle was parked, i noticed the "racetrack" style led tail lights, specifically the large section across the trunk, on my dodge durango were no longer working. i did an online search and multiple incidents regarding this same issue popped up. it appears a faulty seal around the tail light allows for water to enter the inside of the light causing it to burn out. the only fix for this is to replace the entire led unit at a cost of over $1000 which the vehicle owner must pay for. the replacement of the led light does not fix the leaking issue allowing for the light to burn out again.
While operating vehicle (street, dry, day, speed approx. 30-40) abs fault lights and brake warning light illuminated. when vehicle was parked would not restart or disengage park. after waiting 5 hours vehicle started with check engine light illuminated. on drive to dealer for service check engine light turned off, abs lights then illuminated and on parking vehicle at dealer it would not engage transmission. dealer incorporated recalls u65 update pcm and u06 autopark functionality. abs module placed on order and dealer returned vehicle as fit for use 10 october 2018. after driving approx. 10 miles with abs lights illuminated and parking for 6 hours vehicle restarted and behaved normally for .5 mile down entrance ramp to limited access highway. abs lights illuminated, brake red light and check engine lights illuminated, vehicle slipped from gear and would not reengage. transmission would not shift from park and all attempts to restart engine unsuccessful. vehicle towed to dealer.
The tailight is not water tight and water leaks in and pools on the bottom. this water shorts out the tailight and causes it to not light up at all. this short circuiting can also cause multiple other issues for things unrelated to the tailight, causing other systems to short.
Water has entered the "racetrack" lighting assembly on the rear liftgate causng parts of it to not function.
Rear racetrack tail light fills with water. looks like dodge overtightened the bolts causing the plastic to crack which leads to the main tail light to fill with water and short out. this causes the tail lights to not function making it a huge safety concern. of course happens when vehicle is just out of warranty and dodge won't do a thing about it, it according to them is a me problem. i have seen other vehicles with the same problem. this racetrack design tail light system is a terrible design and a dangerous one.
Like so many others, my taillight has filled with water and stopped working. i was notified by a fellow driver. i had no idea and could have easily been rear ended. i have no idea why this issue isn't a recall. it is a danger and will cause injury or death eventually.
License lamp and a portion of the race track brake are out due to water leakage. no apparent damage to taillamp. license lamp socket is melted
The backup light assembly is this vehicle fills with water during rain or car washes, speed is irelevant. the water shorts out the led lights, causing them to fail. the assembly is supposed to be water tight, therefor there is no way for the water it collects to drain. therefore, the metal components of this assembly are also beginning to rust due to the persistent presence of water. replacing this failed assembly costs $1,300. this component should continue to be water tight on well maintained vehicles, such as mine. this failure feels like a flaw in the design of the original part. dodge should replace these failed assemblies at a much more reasonable price, or free of charge, due to the fact that the component is designed to last the life of the vehicle, and certainly isn't for me and many others.
Track lighting on the rear door is not sealed and water gets into the light housing and the rear camera as well as the license plate lights. some of the lights in the track are out and i have to keep replacing the license plate lights. water is just sitting on the lights so they burn out. i'm afraid this might start a electrical fire in the rear door or my rear lights will just stop working.
Alternator recall was not completed by dodge service but was documented that it was changed and later gave issues that could have been very dangerous. details are in file attached
The rear racetrack lighting on my 2014 durango takes on water when raining, causing rear deck lighting to fail. dealer refuses to address issue and has no knowledge of issue. i am constantly draining water out of rear light racetrack. *tr
My rear racetrack light started filling with water. shortly after the right side went out. called my local dodge dealer and was told i'd have to replace the whole piece which is $800.00+. this is ridiculous to have to replace the whole thing. sounds like a design flaw to me. and when i researched this issue; it seems to be a regular thing for durango owners. wish mopar/dodge would offer some assistance with this problem.
The touch screen works part of the time and other times not. also air works sometimes and not other times, sometimes half the car is cold while at the same temp the other half of the car is hot air from the vent. also the seat set up does not keep settings.
Rear light taking on water causing bulbs to blow
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while driving 70 mph, a burning odor was detected and the check engine warning indicator illuminated, which meant that the battery voltage was low. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (peacock chrysler jeep dodge ram hilton head in hardeeville, sc 29927) where it was diagnosed that the water pump was fractured and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system) as a possible cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vin was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was 52,326. the vin was not available.
The hatchback tail light went out because water gets inside and doesn't drain. the whole back brake light has condensation. the bottom left part of light went out (shorted), but in time the whole brake light assembly will go out. this will be a safety hazzard and dodge will be responsible if it is not fixed by recall. *dsy *dt consumer stated with the lights not well lit at night, it is possible someone wont see me. the water is getting into the racetrack lights on the lift gate. the majority of the lights in the back of vehicle is the racetrack lights on the lift gate. The durango's rear race track tail light assemble fills with water causing a short. vehicle has failed a pa safety inspection due to the hazard.
Back brake light bar holding water. burned out a section of lights. found it stationary. i have seen a lot of complains about this. recall should be initiated!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while attempting to enter the vehicle, the door failed to unlock. the contact stated that the key fob was in close proximity to the door, but it failed to unlock. the contact informed the police of the failure and a crowbar had to be used to open the door. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
Rear lift gate tailight has water in it for the second time in two years. the entire light assembly was replaced in dec 2016 and here is is just over a year later and the replacement light that was replaced by a certified dodge dealer and the gasket has failed again.
Condensation was seen forming on inside of lift gate tail light. the next day, water was found pooling inside lift gate tail light assembly. two days later, the tail light adjacent to the pooled water went out. the vehicle was parked outside and stationary at the time of discovery.
Rear lights cracking and filling with water. rear racetrack led lights have failed, licence plate leds failed, and there are electrical issues with turn signals due to this.
The light is not sealed properly therefore water has gotten into the bottom of my center led light on the tail gate. it has caused both lights on each side to go out. i am worried that this could possibly cause an electrical fire while driving or just in general when the car is on. my back up camera also has some issues at times and i wonder if water getting into the light has anything to do with this.
I purchased a 2014 dodge durango 6 months ago and have had multiple issues, all issues that i have found to be all to common by searching the issue online. the following issues have occurred with my vehicle along with many other similar customers have experienced: rear hatch tail light leaking water, ground wire under hood corrodes and brakes off, rear suspension makes wobbling noise when going over bumps, and rear climate control does not heat properly. these issues are very serious and need to be addressed and recalled by the manufacturer before serious injury occurs.
The center lighting panel on the lift gate of the vehicle, is taking on water which can and will damage the led lighting, and could also generate an electrical shortage or in the worst case scenario generate an electrical fire.
I've notice that when i'm driving on highways or around the city, wipers come on by itself. that happen twice... sometimes the sunroof don't open, when the sunroof opens don't want to close sometimes. when i'm on the highway can't seem to get enough power to catch up with traffic, seems like the transmission is about to give out. very laggy....the notification for engine/trans comes off/on at times. other to sound weird but i believe someone has access remotely to vehicle. all this happens on a daily or every few days i've noticed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. the contact experienced several failures within less than two weeks of owning the vehicle. there was an abnormal noise progressing from the electric control panel on the driver's side door area, the instrument cluster shorted out, various warning gauges illuminated, the emblem fractured from the front area of the vehicle, and the radio failed to function. the vehicle was not inspected by an independent mechanic. uconnect was contacted pertaining to the failures and indicated that the previous owner reported the same failures. uconnect suggested that a dealer be contacted. the dealer (stevens creek chrysler jeep dodge ram, 4100 stevens creek blvd, san jose, ca 95129, (408) 248-1800) was contacted. in addition, dark smoke emitted from the tail pipe. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
Rear "race track" style tail lights on the back tail gate fill with water and, as a consequence, the leds low on the passenger side, where the water pooled, are not working. this occurs during rainfall regardless of stationary or under motion. i do not know how long this has been going on. i noticed it in november 2017.
I submitted a previous report related to this issue. today my car was parked on the street and totally started on its own. this car does not have a remote start. i was walking towards my car trying to turn off the panic horn which was sounding. i was approximately 15 to 20 feet away from the car when it started. this is the 4th time this car has started on its own. the car was under warranty the other three times this occurred, but the dealership checked it out and said they could not find a reason. i am really concerned this could occur while the car is parked in our garage and cause carbon monoxide poisoning (the first 3 times it started on its own the car was parked in the garage.)*bf *tr
