We have classified the 95 complaints from 2014 Dodge Durango about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
For 2 years we had issues with worn inner walls in front & steering shake. we brought it in with extended warranty along with video of noise from self diagnostic. our concerns were dismissed by dealership & another automotive shop informed me that both front hubs were bad. called dealership again & same dismissal. we changed both hubs at our own expense and problem fixed. bushing was making horrendous noise and also dismissed by dealership. changed that on our own expense and issue solved. alternator was supposedly changed due to recall by dealership & after inspecting it, we have both agreed that the alternator hasn't been touched. bolts show no signs of any type of torque and alternator is dusty and dirty as is the rest of the components in engine bay which also lead us to the conclusion. this vehicle was and i believe still is unsafe due to recall concerns and the local dealership absolutely refuses to acknowledge any wrong doing. i will be seeking further action against them and hope this doesn't continue to happen to others.
Led racetrack lighting on rear hatch has water in lens and is causing the lighting to malfunction. this poses a visability hazard. the vehicle is garage kept and has never been in an accident. there are no obvious cracks or damage to light lens. this is a dangerous problem and very common as i am finding out.
While my vehicle was parked in my garage the passenger side head rest deployed without impact or warning. failure milage was 46400. had local chrysler dodge inspect failure and was told that head rest needed to be replaced at a cost of 709.49 in order to have the air bag light reset.10/
Alternator is not staying charged. had to be jumped more than once because i will get somewhere and the car won't start. mechanic tested and found the alternator is not fully charging. getting very frustrated that i have a vehicle that is only 3 years old already having problems! if there is a recall why is my vin number not included???? its apparent that this has been a problem with the make, model and year of my vehicle!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while driving approximately 25 mph, all the warning indicators began flashing. the vehicle was parked, turned off, and would not restart. the vehicle was towed to tire one in grand fork, south dakota where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and drained the battery. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
There have been reported issues of the uconnect stereo screen going black, and being inoperable, resulting in the owner having to replace the stereo completely, if the dealership cannot correct it with a hard reset via their diagnostic machines. informed by "royal" with the online dodge customer service department, this isn't covered under warranties or outside of the warranties. seems to have been an issue from 2012 to the present and the dealerships need to be responsible for covering the cost of this defect. i bought my vehicle in 2014, brand new, and this is the 3rd year having the truck. stereos do not just go black, i've owned plenty (more luxury lined than dodges). i've been driving with a black stereo screen since 7/26/2017 - unacceptable.
Tail light is taking up water and condensation that is mostly pooling along the driver side. bottom lights in turn have shorted out.
The car has always "raddled" since i first bought it. i was told the problem was the tires and that they'd been rotated and should be fixed. i bought the car in june 2017 and have had to replace all 4 tires since despite my many complaints. yesterday, the vehicle shifted gears while driving, horn started honking uncontrollably until i had to remove the fuse, the screens all blanked out and flashed warnings, headrests voluntarily folding... all while my 3 children were in the car during a hurricane. the vehicle was in motion on a city street
A/c will not work--relay that is built into the power module will not function--dealer says they will have to replace the whole expensive module. can not get the part.
The rear sensor beeps non stop even though there is nothing behind it. i took it to the dealer and they said that they couldn't diagnose it even though i sent them a video to show them what i had been dealing with. i have also been dealing with the key fob, every time i go to lock my car it beeps once to lock and after the first beep it beeps 3 times and then unlocks my car. when the car is on and i go to open the driver side door, even with the key in the car, the car beeps and tells me the key fob is not in the vehicle. the race track light was beginning to fog up and with time we started to notice that it was filling up with moisture. it filled up to about and 1" and we managed to release the water but part of the race track light is burned out now. i still have the warranty but the dealer said that those lights are not covered and the pricing would range from $1000-$1200 to fix.
It started blacking out the swing i would have to restart the car for it to turn back on next thing you know my screen shut off for good i'm not able to control the air on my able to put music i have no control over anything because that screen is touch screen and it's not manual
Rear tail light failure with low mileage on vehicle. running and brake lights stop working. likely due to water intrusion causing short in electrical system.
Our durango will just completely go haywire (display screen, lights - interior, dash, and exterior lights, the 3rd row head rests will automatically go down, doors lock/unlock) and shut down while in motion. all power goes out and the vehicle becomes impossible to regain control.
Wipers won't shut off, no turn signals, blind spot monitor not working, high beam headlights not working, windshield washers not working, all steering wheel buttons, levers not operating, traction control light on, check engine light on. worried that steering wheel airbag is also inoperable. this happened after driving a fully functioning truck, parked it and shut it off. 10 minutes later started the truck and all of the items listed above occurred. the dealer, security dodge of amityville, replaced a fuse but was told they cannot find a reason why the fuse failed. truck worked fine on the ride home, parked it and turned it off. ten minutes later started the truck and all the same items (see above) failed.
Rear light bar got water in it at 30,000 miles dealer refused to accept the problem and fix it. rear light bar now electrical shorted out from water
While driving the alert chime indicated that the key fob was not in range. then the vehicle shut off. the key fob was in the cup holder. the vehicle was in the drive position. i had to stop. put vehicle in park, restart the vehicle and then put in drive and continue driving. this is the first time that has happened.
Anti-theft system activated upon exiting vehicle and key fob became desensed due to rf interference in area. dash display indicated that "key fob not recognized". car has keyless start button and could not be started. all functions on key fob were not operational. roadside towing assistance had to be requested.
1) when turning on ventilation seats - driver and passenger seat blow hot air instead of cool air. caused a mild burn for driver and passenger. in service - wiring defect. 2) taillights (led) stopped working when driving and braking. only turn on when in park. in service. 3) sunroof stopped working twice. had to turn car in for service 2 times. first time worked with a replaced part. waited over 2 weeks for the part to arrive. then 2 weeks later, it broke. in service - wiring defect.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system); however, the parts needed were unavailable to perform the repairs. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.
The vehicle was in park in a parking space and running with my daughter, mother-in-law, and father-in-law sitting in the backseat. i reached in from the passenger side door of the vehicle and pressed the ignition to turn the vehicle off. the vehicle ignored my command, the dash began flashing, and the car engaged in drive and took off driving across the parking garage. i had to sprint around the vehicle and jump in to the drivers seat to engage the brake and turn the vehicle off before it collided with other vehicles in the garage.
Vehicle was parked at a boat launch in preparation of putting boat on trailer. car was in park, engine idling. got out of the car to retrieve boat while partner would drive the car out after boat was trailered. while partner was attempting to get behind the wheel, car suddenly started backing into the lake until submerged. the transmission was still in park until tow truck operator got into the vehicle to manually release transmission in order to tow out. probably not repairable.
This is a complaint concerning the length of time it has taken so far to get the alternator recall (nhtsa 14v-634 repaired by our dealership, brewbaker motors in montgomery, al. we received the recall notice shortly after the 1st of the year. we were told for at least 2 months that the parts were on backorder. i called again in may and was told they would be getting both parts in in about 2 weeks. the parts manager did call me around the 1st week in june to set the appointment. we had 2 recalled parts, airbag and the alternator. we took the car in, left it overnight, picked it up the next day and only the airbag part had been replaced. when questioned they said the alternator part was not in (after the service manager said both parts were in), and they would call me when they were in. after not hearing from them i called on 07/23/2015 and was told the part was in but it would be the end of august before they could get to the repair of my car. i do not think this is a reasonable amount of time for a repair that could potentially shut down my vehicle while driving, or start an electrical fire under the hood. what do you think?
I started my dodge durango with remote start to cool the car down before my family got in the vehicle. my wife, sister-in-law, and boys got in the vehicle as i walked towards the driver side. my wife reached over from the passenger side to start the vehicle and turn on all electrical components. once the start button was pressed the vehicle disengaged from park and started moving in reverse reaching approximately 20mph until my wife jumped on to the driver seat and was able to hit the brakes. the shift was in the park position so all she could do was turn off the vehicle. thankfully, there was no injury done to my family or pedestrians. my durango did hit two parked vehicles that my insurance paid to repair. i called chrysler to file a complaint that same day and they requested for the vehicle to be dropped off at a dodge dealership for investigation. a month after the incident i receive a letter from chrysler stating that no electrical problem was found and the vehicles operation meets chrysler standards.

Vehicle on board control panel constantly malfunctions, with the screen going black after ignition. system will remain inaccessible for prolonged period of time and will increase air temp to 75 degrees, with no way to stop or change air output. on board/uconnect connectivity continuously lost with no phone/communication access available (i.e., center light on rear view will be red most times). have taken vehicle to multiple dodge dealerships for repair, but repair shops claim to be unable to find a problem. problem began after first system update.
Drove the car off the lot on friday. on monday on my way to the supermarket the truck lost power started shaking and a burning smell filled the cabin. took it to the dealer. service said it was a faulty battery and changed it. on wednesday the same thing happened returned to the dealer. truck was kept for two days. service could not re-create the problem. the service manager said the system was reset and it should be fine. *tr
My car was in park in the parking lot of my children's daycare center. i spilled tea in the cup holder, which caused the gear shifter to short out and disable my vehicle. working for an electronics supplier, i've been informed that this is a safety issue which could cause the vehicle to stop driving if liquid were to short this circuit out while driving. chrysler is stating that this is not their issue, which is completely false, as it is a design issue. *tr

When turning on the turn signal indicater the wind shield wipers come on even though they are in the off position. once they come on they continue to run. on occasion they will turn off when running through a variety of options on the same stick such as flashing the bright light (pull in the stick) or turning on the signal again in the other diretion. there is no rhyme or reason to any of it. this past weekend i pressed the button to start and the wipers went on even though the indicator is in the off position. then suddenly the radio went on even though we did not turn it on and this caused the wipers to stop. this looks a lot like a major electrical problem and we are not concerned that this might be a totally integrated power module problem which is currently under inviestication for recall. *tr

On approx july 16th my check light engine came on. the car is brand new with 3k miles. i took it in july 26th to the dealership where i bought the truck and was told the oil pressure switch is faulty, but the part is on back order indefinitely. they proceeded to tell me that the car is safe, but if something else goes wrong i won't know because the light is already on. they also told me to call chrysler myself, which was extremely insulting and dealership takes no responsibility. reluctantly, i did call and that too does not help. the part is not available and nobody can give me any answers. i don't believe chrysler is taking this liability seriously and putting my whole family (with young kids included) at risk. i feel like the whole electrical system is slowing down as response time to nav, door locks, etc. this customer service experience has been the worst i have ever seen. how can they let me drive around with a known risk and no answers. given the check light engine is on, some add'l features don't work (auto start, etc). clearly there is an issue if they cant get the part, it must be happening with many vehicles. *tr
Vehicle was being driven home by customer when she noticed that the vehicle began to hiccup and sputter while turn a corner. after turning, the vehicle stalled. she was able to safely pull to the shoulder. upon further inspection, the vehicle ran out of fuel. despite the fuel gauge displaying "empty" she stated that no audible warning chime and that the "low fuel" indicator was not prominently displayed (states that it blends in with the rest of the information on the multifunction display). *tr
While driving after leaving a store, the vehicle sounded a warning chime and then all of the electrical displays on the dash went dark. the vehicle downshifted into what seemed 4th gear from 8th gear and sudden deceleration was nored. the windshield wiper turned on and the center radio/climate display would flash on and off. the brief message that was displayed on the dash before it went out said something to the effect of, "do not change gear, do not turn off vehicle, drive directly to destination, by turning car off you may not be able to start it again". we drove to the dealership and they ran a diagnostic where they found several computer faults. the dealer had the vehicle a total of 11 days and changed the body control module. we got the vehicle back and three days later the same thing happened again. worried that if this happened while driving down the interstate at speed, there could be a possible loss of control with the sudden downshift. *tr
April 9, 2014 ? wednesday morning. i was driving my child to school. he left the car and the car started to chime - key fob not detected. i was still in the car, with the key fob in car, but still could not move until turned car off and restarted. ? video taped myself.
2014 dodge durango. consumer writes in regards to vehicle hesitation during acceleration. *smd the dealer performed tests, and found nothing wrong with the vehicle. however, the dealer did perform a pcm update. two days later, the vehicle stalled in traffic. when the consumer applied the accelerator pedal, the vehicle made a strange noise and the check engine light illuminated. she turned the vehicle off and back on again, and the sound stopped, but the check engine light remained lit. while returning to the dealer, the vehicle stalled again. *jb

Purchased vehicle 31 december 2013. actually got vehicle about six days later. on 22 january 2014, i put the vehicle in park at the end of my driveway so i could check the mail. while walking back to the vehicle form the mailbox, the vehicle starting backing up a hill on its own. i had to run next to the vehicle, hanging partially inside the cab, to attempt to shut off vehicle. vehicle would not shut off. i had to push down emergency brake with my hand in order to get vehicle to stop. vehicle also has used active braking feature and the active braking alarm has sounded to inform me that i was too close to a vehicle, though there was no vehicle in site (this has happened 3 times). vehicle randomly starts on it own. vehicle also remote starts on its own. sometimes the vehicle states it is not in park when it clearly is in park. vehicle has went from park to drive on one occasion as well. the vehicle back hatch opened on its own while driving down the highway. my belongings fell out all in road. my husband was driving the vehicle at the time. vehicle fails to accelerate correctly when i press the gas pedal intermittently, sometimes from a stop but usually from a slow speed. this causes other drivers to come close to rear ending me because i am going slower than the speed of traffic (because my foot is depressing the gas petal but the vehicle is not reacting). chrysler has sent an inspector to inspect the vehicle, and he found nothing. this vehicle has serious safety issues. i reported them 3 weeks after purchasing vehicle, but chrysler will not buy back vehicle. they have implemented safety features on the 2015 for some of these exact same issues, yet deny the issues existing. *tr
January 7, 2014 - tuesday, ? 3:30pm car does not start after 6 attempts. call chrysler service since we have appt for january 8th to install new module. january 8, 2014 - wednesday? car is brought into service for new module installation. car checked for no start previous day as well as finding 2 loose screws in back seat on passenger side. *tr

(december 3, 2013). *tr
We pick up our new car on december 2, 2013. the following morning - december 3, 2013 - tuesday? 8:30am we turn car on and all indicators and lights start flashing and ringing. we were unable to shift car out of park. car is flat bedded and towed to chrysler. car stays at chrysler until friday december 6, 2013 december 6, 2013 - friday ? pick up car at 3:30pm after installation of new abs module. driven 2 miles and same problem as 12/3/13 occurs. car is then driven back to chrysler. car kept until monday, december 9th, and was informed that there was a loose bolt. *tr
