I bought a 2011 dodge durango in october of 2013. there have since been several recalls, all took some time to resolve because there were part shortages on both occasions. the most recent problem that has yet to be officially termed a recall because chrysler claims they are still "researching" the issue involves a faulty ignition wiring harness. this defect prevents the proper communication between the ignition and fuel systems, which results in a vehicle that has problems starting or won't start altogether. my vehicle falls under the latter category as it is currently stuck in my driveway. i called my local dealer and they are well aware of the problem, but there is a nationwide backorder for parts to correct the issue and chrysler corporation is dragging their feet in declaring it a recall, presumably trying to avoid bad publicity. in the meantime, i'm stuck with an useless vehicle, and chrysler corp refused to provide a rental vehicle when i called them on 13 oct 2014 because they didn't know when the parts would be available. they also refused to provide anything in writing stating that they keep their own records. the only thing they claimed to be able to do is provide a an email when the parts became available, for which they could provide no estimate. their conclusion appears to be that it is perfectly acceptable to sell a vehicle that can be rendered inoperable through their own negligence or poor manufacturing practices within 3 years.as an active duty service member an unreliable vehicle is not an acceptable option. *tr

Went out to my car to go to work and couldn't unlock door with key, noticed a red light on dash, tried to start my car and completely dead. i took battery to auto zone they charged it and car started then stalled, did this twice and then stayed running. i drove it to work, came out of work started it and it started shook then cut off three times then started. next day went out to go to work and would only start and shut off then smoke from the hood and a smell, i have made a phone call into tate dodge they don't know anything about any on going problems. i have been down a car now for almost two weeks waiting to hear something. *tr

My wife had problems starting the durango on tuesday morning 9/16. my wife repeatly tried to restart the vehicle. when it would finally crank, it would sputter and die. if you tried to give it gas the accelerator would go all the way to the floor without the engine revving. after several more attempts it finally started and she was able to make it to work without any problems. as she left work the same problem occured turn the key nothing, turn the key nothing, take the key out, turn the key, it cranks and then shuts off. after going through the same routine over and over we finally got it to crank. we decided to have the car battery tested and it passed. we got a new battery for the remote but that didn't solve the problem. we finally took our durango to the local dealership the next day 9/17 knowing they were going to charge $100 diagnostic fee. we explained the problem and even took the service man to the vehicle and it would not start. so he actually observed the issue. 2hrs later they call saying a problem could'nt be found. the test didn't produce a code. ok, so we spent $100 dollars on a diagnostic test with no diagnosis. as we picked up the vehicle i asked the service man if they had seen this problem before and of course his answer was no. he suggested it was probably a communication problem. well duh, something wasn't communicating. he tells us to make sure all doors, including the rear hatch are closed before starting. not what i was expecting for $100. well, he may have been telling the truth but i am not a mechanic and since then i have researched the problem and found many complaints regarding the faulty tipm. i ageee with others who have filed a complaint. chrysler is aware of this problem and are refusing to take ownership. what will it take, death or a serious injury? i want my family safe. no amount of money can replace loved ones! *tr

This is the known issue with tipm failure, the car just stalled and lost all power and would not start back up. the engine would turn just fine when starting but would not start. had it towed to my regular mechanic and he let me know today that it is the tipm which is currently unavailable with long wait times. *tr

The 2011 dodge durango started having issues with failed starts. it would take multiple instances to get vehicle to start. sometimes the the fuel pump would continue to pump even though engine was stopped. this causes a very smoky burning smell coming from exhaust and engine. took car to dealership and they report the issue is a faulty tipm module. the part is on back order but vehicle is unsafe due to potential issues with stalling while running. repairs estimated at $1200. *tr

Vehicle was having trouble starting every once and a while. the engine would turn over and over but would not start. applying the brakes and pushing the start button would stop the motor from turning over. occasionally the engine would start after multiple tries. however, it now does not start at all. *tr

Durango will not start. just purchased it a couple months ago and i have been stranded several times because it will not turn over. have to take to a dodge dealer and have it looked at, which the closest dealer is hours from me. apparently a recall has been issued but has not been released so i can not go get it fixed. very upset with dodge!! *tr

When i press the start/stop button the starter continues to turn but the car does not start. it is necessary to put the car in gear to get the starter to stop spinning. various electrical failure notifications are displayed on the dash. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start during the daytime or when the vehicle was hot. the problem has occurred numerous of times. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or independent mechanic. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified about the failure. the approximate failure was 59,000.

We attempted to start our vehicle, but the engine would not start. after several minutes vehicle started but stuttered, as if their was no fuel going to the engine. there had been no engine or service lights at the time. i researched the issue online and found that many durango and cherokee owners have experienced similar issues, and the cause was the tipm. i took my vehicle to the dealership and they tested it, and found it was a problem with the tipm, which was failing to engage the fuel pump. luckily our car was parked at the time the problem started. my wife generally drives this vehicle with my two small children. our warranty ended at 36000 miles, so it was not covered. my options were to replace the tipm for 1200 dollars, or pay 428 dollars to have an external relay installed to bypass the faulty tipm (chrysler star case #[xxx]). we chose to have the bypass installed. vehicle is running fine at this point, but we are worried other issues (air bags deployed etc) will be a future problem. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start until after multiple attempts. the failure was recurring. the vehicle was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

When the key is put inside the ignition, it takes a couple of tries for the engine to start (if at all) after failing multiple times. after it starts, sometimes the engine shuts down completely when i am driving at 30+mph and when i hit a stop sign/red light! this is very dangerous and needs to be fixed! *js

The problem first manifested itself in an occasional difficulty starting the vehicle, typically after it sat overnight. upon pressing the start button the starter would engage but the engine would not start. pressing the start button again to stop the cranking and then re-pressing the button would get the engine to start. weeks would sometimes go by without the problem recurring. around the middle of july 2014 the problem started to get much worse, the car sometimes not starting multiple times during the day even after short stops. around the end of july my wife had the problem happen to her, got the vehicle started, but as she backed out of a parking spot the vehicle stalled in the traffic lane. after that incident i took the vehicle to a dodge dealership where they "cleared several fault codes" and sent me on my way. three days later the vehicle once again wouldn't start, but the "reset and repress" tactic would work and the vehicle would run. around august 7 2014 the problem got much worse. the vehicle took multiple attempts and 1-2 minutes to get running on several mornings, now though the vehicle would stall once started and before moving. once running, in gear, and moving the car would run fine. car failed to start then each morning aug 15-17, taking 1-2 minutes each morning and multiple stalls. on afternoon of august 17, 5 minutes after making a dealer apt for next morning, i was driving at about 10 miles per hour and the engine died completely, power steering and brakes went out as well. only after 3 minutes did finally using the remote start function on the key fob get the vehicle to start and run, this on a very busy roadway blocking a lane of traffic. next day vehicle would not start at the dealer either, they diagnosed a bad tipm module and offered me a new module for $1200 or a "relay kit" for $587. new module cured problem for now. *tr

When attempting to use the push button ignition to start the vehicle, the vehicle crank over to start and then stutter out or crank to start and get stuck cranking until operator shut it down- sometimes would not shut down immediately but keep stuttering for a short period of time. upon bringing to dealership, the mechanic identified issues w/ lariant #5 stating need to be replaced with the new style lariant #6. dealership informed me- not covered under any type of warranty. why not? what is wrong with lariant #5 that needed to be upgraded to a new version? after researching online, multiple owners of the 2011 durango have reported issues of this same part. an investigation needs to be performed on this faulty part from the factory. dodge is aware of this safety issue and has done nothing to resolve and no recall has been issued. this has resulted in heavy consumer out of pocket costs for a newer vehicle. *tr

Woke up the day before the fourth of july and got myself and the kids ready to travel out of town. loaded everyone in the car and the truck wouldn't start. i pushed the button and it acted like it would start but it would never turn over. i tried for twenty minutes and could not get it started. i had to get it towed to the dealership. they first said it was a wiring and it would be couple of days. but then they called back today and said it is the tipm and they are not sure how long it will be because they have to order the part and it will take "awhile" to get it in. this is my only vehicle to get me to work and three kids to all the places they have to be. this is going to be a headache and the price went from 200 dollars to over 1,000 dollars. i could take that and use it on a downpayment for something else. chrysler is way out of line allowing consumers to deal with a problem that they created. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. the contact stated that the vehicle would start intermittently and the stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to restart. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 29,000.

On june 20, 2014, my dodge durango citadel stalled in traffic at 50 mph, almost causing a horrible accident. this was the 2nd time it had occurred. i coasted the vehicle to a side street. *tr

My 2011 dodge durango cranks but wont turn over after several tries it would start and after a few days it just wouldn't turn on at all.so i had to call a tow truck to tow it in to dealership.still had extended warranty on my durango so i took it back to dealership and they informed me they would have to replace my tipm and all i had to pay was my deductible.so i picked it up when they fixed it. drove it home and put about 30 miles on it and my engine light came back on so i called and they had me take it back the next morning now they said it was an ignition coil and expected me to pay my deductible again. after some discussion they waved to fee.and i received my car back after another day in a half. i drove it home and as i got there we noticed the right front turn signal didn't work instead my fog lights would blink so i called dealership and they said they needed some codes to reprogram the turn signal. i had only put about 15 miles on it since i picked it up and my engine light is back on again. so here i go 4th day back to dealership and its so frustrating that no one cares after so many complaints on this part (tipm).i guess they are waiting till someone gets hurt or dies. like the case with gm and there faulty ignition switch. i was lucky my durango stopped working in my driveway and not on the road cause i have 3 small children and they are always with me.just pray to god that nothing happens to my children. *tr

I have a 2011 dodge durange that has a failing tipm (totally integrated power module) and dodge is aware of this problem however, will continue to sell the cars without fixing so we get so spend over 1,000.00 to fix it! *tr

While driving 65 mph on a highway, my durango citadel stalled in traffic, almost creating a horrible accident. *tr

2011 dodge durango w/5.7 liter engine stalled as i was turning onto the freeway on ramp. pulled over and started right back up. thought it was a fluke or i hit something. stalling occurred again several times while slowing down and making turns. happen once while my wife and daughter were going to store. she will not drive the car anymore. went in for repairs several times with no real conclusion or repair being done. finally went in after one of the stalls and by then the recall was coming out and the tipm and some wiring was replaced. thought it was repaired when over the weekend it happened again as i was slowing for a stop sign with my wife & granddaughter in the car, then to me again 2 days later. we happen to live in a rural area so there is not a lot of traffic, thankfully. it is in dealership now (second week) and they are saying it needs new sparkplugs (which it does) but there is no way a engine should stall due to old sparkplugs. it's a disaster waiting to happen to anyone driving one of these. everything up till this tune-up has been covered under warranty. it has stalled a total of around 8 times and all while slowing down and has been in dealership on and off for about a month total. *tr

Vehicle had problems starting earlier in the day. aprox 3am neighbors knocked on our windows saying it was on fire. fire dept put fire out which started in engine compartment. total loss. *tr

Tipm failure. vehicle will not start. dodge refuses any assistance with repair of over $1200. class action lawsuit by [xxx] has been started. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Incident date start: 11/02/2013. the vehicle would not start. the engine would turn over but there was either no fuel or ignition spark. continued to try to start the vehicle but refused to start. after about 6 to 8 minutes of trying it started. the vehicle started every time after that but the next morning it refused to start. again after 6 to 8 minutes of trying, it started and started each time for the rest of the day. this repeated itself each day. the dealer diagnosed it as the "totally integrated control module" failed. *tr

The past 2 months, my vehicle has been given me problems starting engine- i turn key to start and it just cranks! in october, i brought to dodge dealership and they told me it needed a "software update"- that didn't do anything. it randomly starts when it wants! then the past week it got really bad- not starting at all! black friday left to shop early in morning- wouldn't start, so took husband's truck- got back at noon- tried again car started- so me and my little girl went into town- stop at traffic red light- then light turned green- pressed gas to go and nothing happened!!!! my car randomly just turned off at light! as cars honked for me to go i hurried and put car in park and prayed for it to crank- it did- and drove straight to dealership- again they said it was an software update! well its sunday and my vehicle is at my mom's because it won't start at all! i'm reading a lot of complaints of ticm- that is backordered- i will call dealer tomorrow - i really love my durango and hope it can be fixed. *tr

I took my vehicle to the dodge dealer and was told that my car could not crank because of a bad tipm module. well that was a month ago, as i was told the part was on back order and would be here october 20th. well that date came and passed and now i am told the part will not be available until november 19th. as i am a customer who is supported dodge i am beginning to have second thoughts and will keep this in mind when i purchase another vehicle. i cannot believe that there is not a national recall because of the numerous customers that are awaiting this particular part. we need help from someone as my car will sit for at least 2 months. *tr

I have a 2011 dodge durango that has been in the dealership's shop since sept 20th. the fuel pumps failed because of a known issue with the totally integrated power module. this item has been on backorder and if that's not enough...dealerships nationwide are restricted to ordering one module per week. i believe this item should be on recall because apparently others are waiting for this part...some over a period of months. i need my vehicle. i've been in touch with customer service/corporate who has been giving me the run around and even promising me a rental car...but not making good on their promise. i'm to the point where i'm calling them daily and getting the same response. i've been assigned a case manager...but the case manager never called me. dodge doesn't have the courtesy of calling me back to let me know what's going on. what kind of business is that? tomorrow i will have been without my vehicle for two weeks without any other means of transportation. i wasn't given an estimate on when the part would be in or a rental car. this really sucks! i have young kids and pray that there isn't an emergency where i need to jump in my vehicle and go because i won't be able to. *tr

The vehicle will not start, it cranks for a long time, then needs to be restarted 5 times plus before it starts, occasionally stalling out, before finally starting. this has been going on since 9/18/13. at times it leaves something running in the back of the vehicle by the fuel pump, even when the vehicle is turned off. brought to the dealer on 9/23/13 and they found the problem to be the tipm (totally integrated power module), which is on a restricted backorder with no eta. we were told to pick up the vehicle and bring it back when the part comes in. my wife is 9 months pregnant and this is our family vehicle, which is unreliable. to make it worse the vehicle stalled going through an intersection the other day, when i was driving with my 1 year old in the backseat, and we were almost hit, luckily there was an angel looking over us, and the other vehicle stopped just in time. i have tried to reach out to dodge customer service about this, and they are not willing to pay for a loaner/rental and they can give no eta on the part, as there is a couple thousand on backorder. my family and dodge got lucky in this situation, but something needs to be done before this occurs again to someone else, and someone is injured or killed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted and operated as designed. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but the cause of the failure was undetermined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 44,000.

Tried to start vehicle and it would not start and the smell of burn wiring this happen several times. i seen the check engine appear and disappear i thought maybe oxygen sensor, or loose wire. so during the holidays november the vehicle cease to start and the vehicle radio and air bag light continue to operate off and on. i contacted a dealer who stated that they would work on the vehicle after the holiday january 9 2014 but change it to the 21 of january so i contacted chrysler dodge corp and they gave me a case number and i stated that others had the same problem and was there a recall. they sent me to the stealership to get it check out. they stated that it would take them a while to check it out one day and they said they fixed the problem (tip module) and that i should pay for it and if not they will charge me 45 dollars a day if i did not pick it up. i stated that i am waiting for the dodge corp to help with the bill. they then stated they are not going to help and if i don't pay they will enforce their extra monies for having it there. i thought they wanted customers not chase them away. go fiat. *tr

2011 dodge durango began to not start. just as others.. had to try starting and would finally turn over. after a visit to dealer, where no diagnosis codes showed up..and no warning system lights were on, we took home. continued to do this for next week, even stalled while on road while going 50 mph, and at a stoplight. big safety issue here as could have got rearended w/a 3yr in car. enough...back to dodge dealer, towed this time cause wouldn't start at all. it has been at dealer for 2 weeks presently. have begun to fight chrysler/dodge as it should be covered by warranty even though over 3/36000 as the part tipm controls the items covered under powertrain warranty. this should have been a nationwide recall as it has happened to dodges/jeep/etc and obviously by social media viewing it continues. not only a factory or part defect obviously but a serious safety matter for those driving or riding in the vehicle. one lawsuit and maybe they will correct? no idea on eta of part, "will call you weekly" w/updates is not a good sign. america bailed out chrysler and now america is driving unsafe and potentially life-threatening vehicles. they apparently are offering rental cars to some. we customers still have to pay our car payments/insurance etc while our vehicles sit for weeks on end for an issue that we had no warning system light detection and engine stalling was random either at the start of your engine starting or on the road with the potential accident happening. come on chrysler protect the americans that bailed you out and do a recall on this dangerous issue and find the part...eta unknown is not acceptable or face even more loss of sales due to the negativity of safety/engine problems such as this. no re-dos on bailouts. *js

Engine would not start with multiple ignition attempts. engine would sporadically start and begin to idle, within seconds idle rpm would progressively decrease inciting knocking noises and severe shaking, ultimately causing engine to shutoff. called local dealership to discuss problem with service department which instructed the removal of the push/start button from the instrument panel and to utilize the key fob for ignition; citing possible push/start button malfunction. this ignition method resolved problem for initial incident. the next day, same engine ignition malfunction manifest. after multiple ignition attempts vehicle started and was taken to dealership for computer diagnostics. service technician reported tipm malfunction with fuel pump or fuel pump relay. service technician also stated the tipm was on international backorder with no known availability date. service technician also stated the dealership had already conducted 9 tipm replacements and had 4 vehicles on the lot currently awaiting replacement parts. due to lack of replacement tipm, vehicle is still presenting ignition malfunction and is highly unreliable in its current state. *jb

Purchased brand new. first incident in may we used the key fob to start the vehicle and the vehicle ran for 5 minutes then shut down. the engine completely shut down and we were not able to start the vehicle using the manual key or key fob-vehicle having it towed. unknown cause! in june, the vehicle was started with the key fob and placed my twin 3 yr olds in the car. the key fob was placed on the passenger seat in the vehicle. all doors were shut when i was walked to the passenger side when suddenly the doors locked and the vehicle shut off after 10 minutes, 122 degrees outside. there was no reason for the doors to all lock. massive malfunction. i had to call the 911 and have the fire department rescue my children out of the vehicle! incident unknown next, for the last 2 months we are having issues getting the car to start with the push button, key fob and manual start. we replaced the battery. no fix. dealership determine there is not a fix as of this point and handed us the keys and told us we would have to wait until there is a fix. they stated they will call when they determined why so many vehicles have this same issue. electrical problem? after, still problems for 2m the push start and key fob start has gotten worse. it takes 8-15 tries to get the vehicle started! problem unresolved! next this past week having same starting issues, the cars has a "fan sound" after the vehicle is turned off. it runs down the battery and battery dies every day. now, its back into the dealership again! the car does not start for them to [xxx] look at it! end result! they think its an electrical issue, they think they might be able to fix the starting issue after the "part" comes in and could take months, knowing 1500 plus other vehicles need this same "part" they now, offered us a rental car that doesn't fit our family of 5! problem will never be resolved! *tr

At random times the engine will just shut down and i have no power steering at all. it has happened over 15 times now generally when i come to a full stop and also when i am taking a right hand turn at slow speeds. *tr

Engine light comes on, fcw light comes on, rpm's run high and car accelerates on its own. must ride the brake and be extremely careful when that happens as car tries to jump/accelerate on its own. worry that this will cause accident. car has been in and out of repair shop on three occasions and problem still not fixed. dealer does not know what is wrong or how to fix. have consulted corporate and put the word out to other dealers but to no avail. just got car back again after dealer having for the entire day and problem started up again. plan on writing to manufacturer and reporting car under lemon law. *tr
