I was at the mall pulled into parking lot smelled a burning smell so i turned off engine and opened hood smoke started coming out no fire though tried to start vehicle again car completely dead. so had car towed of course was in parking structure and structure was so small no tow truck could fit inside so had to call a mobile mechanic to come out and he bypassed something to get car started drove car to outside parking lot so car could be towed. mechanic said alternator and battery fried. so replaced them. come to find out that pcm was also fried so need new brain for car! looked on website dodge/cryseler have recall on alternator....you guessed it not on my vehicle though!! there is a recall on 2011 dodge durango alternators but not on mine yet my alternator goes out for no apparent reason!! ridiculous
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. the contact stated that while his wife was driving at 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the power steering and the brakes also failed to function. the failure recurred ten times over the course of a year. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be replicated but the software related to the radio and the hands free module were updated however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they would be in contact with the dealer to determine a repair. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
Vehicle in motion traveling at 65 mph. vehicle lost all engine and electrical power. no lights or indicators on dashboard. no power steering. limited braking power. coasted the vehicle out of traffic to the shoulder of the road. shifted vehicle into park and waited 5 minutes. after 5 minutes electrical power returned and was able to start vehicle and drive it home. found complaints online of similar problems.
The car has an intermitent that during the transition from cold engine operation to warm engine if you take your foot off of the gas (to slow down for a traffic light or to make a turn) the engine will stall, losing power steering. it is intermittent in that it must be at a certain point in the warm up cycle. i am unable to let my daughter drive the car as she does not have the strength to control the car without power steering.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. while driving 70 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 44,000. the vin was not available.
2011 dodge durango recall# 14v634000, electrical system, alternator. the truck was in motion on a busy city street and stopped abruptly. the entire computer system went out, causing the alternator, and the battery to be disabled. dodge refused to reimburse for the 2k we paid in repairs.
I was driving with my kids getting our day started. i turn on with remote start was making loud screeching sound. loaded up kids and started to take off. we could all smell a bad burning smell. i check all temps on car and nothing read high temperature. i drove on my way to daycare when my car stalled and shut down. and it had previously did this b4 like 4 months or so and a recall of fuel pump was done and had been running fine till this day. i tried starting it a few times nothing. finally turn on and battery light came on. i drove it to drop of my 3 kids at camp when it kept feeling like it wanted to turn of. still smelling burning. finally i'm headed to work and it stalled in middle of intersection. thank god i didn't have my kids with me and no accidents happened. i had car towed to local mechanic because dealership is and hour away. he said alternator gave out. put new alternator in still nothing. 600 dollars down drain. now i have to pay towing to get to dealership which will mean just more money down the drain which i don't have the extra money and use this car for wk so hopefully i don't lose my job. i don't understand how i have same exact problems as another 2011 durango under recall but mine ain't one of them. do you have to wait till someone is seriously hurt or killed to have a recall. if none of this is resolved properly i will be hiring a lawyer. i have only had vehicle for 2yrs.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. the contact stated that while driving at any speed, the vehicle lost power and shut down without warning. the vehicle was merged to the side and was restarted. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer at: telegraph chrysler dodge jeep ram, located at 12000 telegraph rd, taylor, mi, 734-947-2300. the vehicle was also taken to the dealer at: suburban chrysler dodge jeep ram of garden city, located at 32850 ford rd, garden city, mi, 734-421-5700. the contact stated that none of the dealers were able to duplicate the failure, so the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was about 65,000.
I had a battery light in the morning, but my battery was new. as i was driving my air conditioning stopped working, my radio screen flashed, went off and the entire car died while in motion, i barely stopped in time. the engine wouldn't even try, and me and my two infant children were stranded in the middle of a busy street in 100 heat. the police officer had to help us, we called a tow truck to take us home. the mechanic who looked at the car said the alternator internally grounded and fried the computer and the battery and explains the burning smell just prior to the car dying.
The vehicle stalls while you are driving it happens frequently and there is no fix that has been found to stop this issue. it has happened while driving on streets and the highway. this has happened multiple times.
While on the highway i a check battery light appeared on my dash, i planned on checking into it at the upcoming gas station which was about 3 miles away, as i approached the offramp to the gas station all kinds of check engine lights and abs and you name it started showing in my dash followed by the wipers and next thing you know the car dies out. lucky for me there was no vehicle in front of me because i could not steer or brake because it was very hard or locked, i managed to pull over just before the gas station and sensed the smell of burned wire, i noticed i was not completely off the road so i tried putting vehicle in neutral but it was locked in park, also my key was stuck in the ignition. local mechanic changed the battery first and still had the check battery light on so he reccomended a new alternator as well which i bought immediately, 900.00 later here i sit with new alternator and baterry but still the same problem with vehicle stalling and check battery light on. dealer says my vehicle is not in the p60 recall even though i have/had the same 160 amp alternator as the recalled vehicles. this is a serious issue which can become deadly if not fixed asap. im sure of one thing, never in my life will me or my family buy a dodge again.
Alternator failed over heating electrical wiring and causing battery and computer chip failure. the problem occurred on the road but i was able to make it to a parking lot. i did smell smoke and felt heat but there was no ignition of fire. my car was completely disabled. no electrical activity. the symptoms are the same as recall #14v634000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. while inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed engine oil leaking from the timing chain into the alternator. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the left cylinder and timing chain gasket needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. a few months later, while driving 25 mph, the battery warning light illuminated. after shifting the vehicle into park, the contact noticed smoke coming from the alternator. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact was aware of nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system), but the vin was not included. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 77,000.
2 different episodes of unexpected vehicle shutdown/stalling. first event was in the process of a left hand turn. vehicle shut down partway through the turn. lost all power steering and brakes. struggled to keep the vehicle out of the ditch. put the vehicle in park, and it restarted immediately, and continued home uneventfully. approximately 2 months later, the vehicle again unexpectedly stalled at a traffic light. the light turned green, and i took my foot off the brake, and the vehicle stalled. again, it restarted uneventfully and i continued to work. the vehicle appears to be working normally otherwise. acceleration and fuel economy are normal, and there are no episodes of hesitation/stuttering/missing. there was no warning of the stall either time. both episodes were approximately 5 minutes into my drive, and the vehicle should have been mostly warmed up each time, but perhaps not all the way. the "exact" moment of the stall seems to coincide with removing my foot from the brake, once to turn and once to accelerate. the durango was taken to the dealer that same day each time, and there were no significant error codes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. while driving approximately 62 mph, the engine stalled with every warning light illuminated. in addition, the key failed to remove from the ignition switch. the contact attempted to jumpstart the battery from another vehicle, but the jumper cable cord burned. the vehicle was not able to restart. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. the vehicle was repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. the contact stated that while driving at 75 mph, a strange resistance was felt in the accelerator pedal while the oil warning light illuminated. the vehicle began to shake violently while an abnormal noise was heard. the contact stated that a fire was observed coming from under the front of the vehicle. the fire was extinguished by the fire department. a fire report was filed. no injuries were sustained. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 87,303.
Several months ago my dodge durango began leaking fluid. after some taking my front end apart i have determined it to be the a/c condenser-transmission cooler assembly. during my research for diagnosing this problem, i discovered dozens of youtube videos of other people suffering the same exact leak, in the same exact place on the same exact make and model of a/c condenser/transmission oil cooler unit. it is obvious to me there is a design flaw with this part.
The vehicle loses power, engin shuts off while driving for no explainable reason
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. while driving at various speeds, the check engine light was constantly illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs and coils failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to be diagnosed and was informed that the sixth cylinder spark plug failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
Local auto repair shop tested tipm and other parts and found nothing but i'm still having an issue starting my car when my vehicle sits longer than 5 hours. i am not able to afford new tipm for $1200. i understand tipm issue is pending class action settlement. i would like to dodge dealer to provide a significant discount so that i can replace tipm of my vehicle.

The car will crank but will not start. when pressing the push to start button it turns over like its going to start but will not start. after taking it to the dealership for recall work it has the same re-occuring issue. dodge says that it was fixed but i now have to take it to an independant repair shop to pay out of pocket for a known issue with this vehicle. this is a common problem with this make and model and should be paid for and fixed by mopar and not the customer!
Bought used, had car less than 12 hours and car stalled while driving thru 90 degree corner on highway. loss of power =no power steering=accident waiting to happen. called dealer and returned next day. they completed an outstanding recall. problem not fixed, had car back 7 days, stalled again twice in one day. returned to dealer, had it a week and a half and could not get to replicate, cleaned and adjusted fcw sensor. had car back 4 days and stalled again. back to service now for 2 weeks. making payment on car that i haven't had very frustrating. always occurs going thru corners. very scary and lucky no traffic behind me since i have to put in park to restart by push button ignition. i am very disappointed with dodge as i have read several similar complaints with no resolution. the dealer is now offering to take car back and trade for something else or refund my money (lemon law). i was in love with this car but don't know that i want to stick with dodge after all of these issues. it seems that people have been fortunate not to get into a serious accident and i hope that dodge figures this out before someone loses their life.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. while driving various speeds, the gears slipped into neutral without warning. the vehicle stalled, but the engine was still running and the gear shifted into neutral. once the transmission slipped, the rpms increased. the contact would have to shift the gear into drive when the failure occurred. the dealer was unable to locate any failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 54,800.
My 2011 dodge durango crew says key no detected when i attempt to start the vehicle. i thought it was the battery in the key fob because the vehicle stated low key battery and took the fob to battery's plus. they tested the key fob and stated the battery was fine and didn't need to be replaced. also the drivers side head and brake lights go out.
Tl*the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. the contact received nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the battery warning light illuminated and smoke was emitting from under the hood of the vehicle. after shutting the vehicle off, it failed to restart. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. no repairs were made to the vehicle. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 108,000.
The very first time was when i was slowing down from about 50mph at a corner in order to take a right hand turn, about halfway through the 90 corner i feel that the steering has stiffened. looking down, i see that the tachometer now reads 0, and the engine has died. i cannot simply slip it into neutral and then restart it because of the car has a keyless pushbutton and the start button only works with the drive in park. i then have to armstrong it through the rest of the corner. as i finish up the turn to where i can safely stop and restart, i then push the brakes only to find that they are now totally stiff because there is now no vacuum left to assist. i end up costing to a stop. the car always restarts without any problem. this problem has persisted and has happened at least 20 times since. it is always is when slowing down from anywhere from 60 to 30 mph and beginning to take a right turn. i have never seen this happen when doing a left, but there are not to many chances to duplicate this scenario doing a left. we had the one recall for the fuel pump done so that should not be it. we have complained about this to numerous dodge dealers and they have done nothing. one service writer said that he knew of the problem, knew that the fuel pump recall was not fixing it and that there was going to be another recall to fix the problem. when this happens unexpectedly as you are going 25 mph in a traffic roundabout, it is all you can do to try to steer through the rest of the traffic circle, only to find that your power brakes are failed as you try to stop to restart. this is a very serious defect that needs immediate attention, someone is going to be killed with this happening, either the occupants of the car, or the public. we also have a 2011 jeep grand cherokee and it is doing the exact same thing, but more because it is driven more.
I've had my durango back to the dealer several times for the stalling issue. they allege that all repairs were completed in late november. i then went out of town on business for two months. i came back in late january, and the vehicle continued to stall on me while driving. they said the warranty work was done on the fuel pump relay in november. when i took it back in february, they replaced the computer and the keys because they said that the vehicle was shutting down because the computer didn't recognize that the key was in the vehicle and it shut down to prevent the vehicle from being stolen. on february 26th, it stalled while driving again. i left a voice mail for the dealership with no return phone call. on march 1st, the vehicle stalled while driving again. the vehicle is now back in the dealership. *tr
While driving at a constant speed of 25, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, lurching forward, then backed off, then accelerated again. it did this a number of times that day. i pulled off the road and stopped until the vehicle quit trying to accelerate. i was driving on snow/ice and it scared the heck out of me; i was lucky not to wreck because i hit the brakes to counter the sudden acceleration which caused me to slide. the vehicle did the same thing the next day while traveling at a constant speed of 45, and again on february 24th and today, february 25th. yesterday, february 24th, it did it while in heavily congested traffic while driving about 15 mph. the sudden acceleration startled me because it lurched me toward the vehicle in front of me and i had to slam on my brakes. *js
I have been having issues with the vehicle engine shutting off as the vehicle is in motion. sometimes it restarts right up other times it takes a jump pack needed to start ir up. i have complained about this issue before. i contacted dodge/ chrysler recall center and i was told that this was happening because of my fuel relay switch that was already recalled and that the situation would be fixed once that was replaced. well last week the relay switch was replaced on monday and on both wednesday and thursday while operating the car at about 55 mph the vehicle shut off on me. both times i was able to safely move off the road way. upon trying to restart the car it would turn off just fine but never start up. both times i was lucky enough to have a state trooper stop and jump start me using a jump pack. i have had my battery tested and it is fine. the dealer ship stated that there are no error codes showing up so they can't diagnose what is wrong. this is an accident just waiting to happen! *tr
I was driving the suv in about 30 degree weather attempting to enter the highway when i lost almost all engine power simultaneously the check engine light tripped. luckily there were no vehicles behind me, i was able to make it to the next exit. the code tripped was : po6dd mod $00 engine oil pressure control circuit performance/stuck off. is this safe? and do the electrical issues with the other modules have any effect on this? *tr
Was traveling 55 mph the engine goes from drive mode to 4 on the dash without changing the gear shift. came to a stop on hill vehicle would not go forward when applying gas peddle had to roll down hill tried to move vehicle from park to drive gear on dashboard showed 4. stopped vehicle placed it in park then checked in neutral then went to drive but it would not show drive on the dashboard display shows gear 4. turned vehicle off then started vehicle back up the check engine light came on moved gear shift from park to drive but dashboard display shows 4 it will not show drive on the dashboard display but you can drive the vehicle it did not stall. vehicle was parked until it can be taken to dealer to determine problem why the check engine light is on why the vehicle is showing 4 gear not drive on the dashboard display. *tr
I have received 3 recalls notifications and only one its taken care off iaw dealer - ferman dodge in sr54, tampa fl. i received a p60, p45 and p50 or p54 don't have the recall doc with me. the dealer is stalling on getting the parts according to them. but, i bet its a paying customer that comes with same problem and the parts i bet it will appear very quick. on 12.25.2014, i was going at 45 mph and suddenly and the speed slowed down and had to pull to the side, turn off the car and start it again, a verify scary moment with family in the car. its been now 2 months since i mentioned to them the car is suffering of long cranks. have to play with ignition to get it to start. the car only have 51+k miles and should not have this happen. need to get this issue resolved or i will keep pushing to the top to get my car fixed. *tr
Check engine light started to come on and would go off on its own. every time i took it to dealership, i was told they could not diagnose vehicle as engine light was not on. it also constantly stalls and parts are not available to get recalls fixed as informed by gossett dealership. when engine light was on dealership never had time to check it. one day driving at approximately 45mph, the car started to make screeching noise and the noise was extremely loud. i manager to get home as it was night time. the next day, i called dealership and they said that they could not see me that day and tried to give an appointment for the next week. i then took it to midas and $650 later they said it was fixed. now, the transmission is not changing gears properly and heater sometimes blows air and then sometime does not...this suv is a piece of junk and chrysler group should be sued and made to take all these junks excuse of vehicles back! *dt
While driving heard low moaning sound, 5 minutes later (still driving) battery light came on. i decided to take vehicle to auto parts store because it was late afternoon (~7:45pm) to see if my need was a battery. i asked technician to come and see if it was my battery or alternator, as i opened vehicle door to pop the hood, the suv was filled with smoke. the techs scurried to open the hood and waived smoke in attempt to remove the battery cable to disconnect power. i was rushing to get child out of car, because smoke was bellowing from underneath the hood. after technician removed the power cable from the stud under the hood, the fire and smoke from the alternator slowed and eventually went out. i called insurance company and had vehicle towed to dealer. had i parked the vehicle in the garage for the night and sought support the following morning, i was informed that my 2011 dodge durango could have potentially caught fire in my garage, because power was continually being supplied to the alternator (over powering it). this is a serious, potential fatal system failure and needs immediate attention! dealer confirmed the failed alternator and is charging me $855 dollars, and required prompting to engage discussion on possible recall. dealer claimed no recall has been formalized. due to my disbelief that dodge was unaware of this problem and persistence in questioning other potential customer complaints, the dealer began to advise that this was a previously known problem with "chrysler" that is being fixed by refurbishing alternators and selling them back to the dealer for $500. dealer also stated the i could request repayment for my services once a formal recall disclosure was submitted to consumers. i am furious to see that is in fact a formal recall; nhtsa campaign number 14v634000. *tr

1st time: car would not start after getting gas, i was rving car just fine before this occurred. went to start car, did not turn over, tried again push the start button and car kept trying to turn over with no luck, i let the car sit for a few minutes and tried again, it started. day two, started car just kept turning over had to press "stop" tried again and it started. *tr
Vehicle engine would start with use of ignition button, then vehicle engine would shut off with out warning. at this time vehicle will not re-start with use of ignition button. vehicle would just engage starter motor and not fire engine with use of ignition button. starter would run on until button is pushed to engage the off position, with a no start condition. after several cycles of the ignition button vehicle engine will finally start and stay running. problem is recurring often.this is absolutely unacceptable for any vehicle and the safety of its occupants. this can lead to loss off control of vehicle, possible collision and loss of life, at high speeds on the crowded interstates, or moderate speeds on small town streets. *tr
Driving with my family to church on rucker avenue in everett washington at a speed of approximately 35 miles per hour. the engine stalled and car lost power. was able to safely pull to the side of the road. same thing happened a week later while driving on colby avenue in everett. the car had been having difficulty starting, it would crank over but not start. on october 1'st i took the car to dwayne lanes in everett, they told they had fixed the problem. the car still did not start and the problem remains. took the car back to dwayne lanes and informed them that the car was stalling while driving. they commented that the part was on back order and subject to a recall (p54/nhtsa 14v-530). dwayne lanes advised that they did not know when the part would be in and suggested that i take the vehicle back and utilize it until the part came in. i informed dwayne lanes that i would not be driving a car that loses power at random times on public roads. i informed dwayne lanes that this would put my safety at risk as well as everyone else on the road. dwayne lanes informed me that there is nothing they can do. the car has 32,000 miles on it, and is still under warranty. have contacted chrysler, tempe dodge, and dwayne lanes, as well as insurance. no person will provide a loaner vehicle, or an estimate of when the car will become drivable again. *tr
I was told the totally integrated power module (tipm) was bad and needed to be replaced. never heard of this part until my vehicle started acting up. it would just not start even though it was trying. i thought it was just a starter going bad or something small. nope! i learned about tafn and the nearly $1,600 it cost to replace it. in speaking with the technician i found out that it could go completely out at anytime, and if it did, my vehicle would be dead in the water no matter what i was doing. scary thought. especially if you're driving down the freeway. so, needless to say, we don't really have a choice when this part goes out. what's sad is that the vehicle is only a few years old and has relatively low mileage. after getting off the phone with the technician i googled tafn and found all kinds of articles and learned that chrysler has been struggling with this part on various models for several years. hopefully they end up doing the right thing and covering this and reimbursing those of us who have no choice and have to replace the faulty part now. to not do so is putting our lives and those around us in jeopardy. *tr
I had to have the tipm replaced because the vehicle would not start. *tr
Received 2 recall notices for problem with fuel pump relay. engine could quit at any time. went to bob lamphere's newberg dodge after receiving notices. was told parts would be in after 2 weeks. this info was provided on july 21, 2014. i would be notified when to bring in the car for warranty work. on may 5, 2015 i was informed that the parts are in and need an appointment. nothing happened until i called chrsyler in michigan and they were at a loss as to why the warranty hasn't done. my opinion, newberg dodge just forgot the warranty work until chrysler called them. i am waiting for some one from chrsyler to call and work out a schedule to repair the fuel pump relay. safety recall p54 / nhtsa 14v-530. I believe there is actually 3 incidents that are all connected. first was august 2014 check engine light was on and car was losing power. the dealer replaced the battery. i asked them to check alternator but was told it was fine. oct 4, 2014 we where driving and the check engine light came on car was having power loss and engine began to smoke. took to the dealer and they claimed it was a bad waterpump. they also did recall work on the braking system. two days later the check engine light was on again and the battery light would come on and off. my wife and daughter were driving car down the road and car power system just shut down. they had no control over anything at all in the vehicle. towed to dealer and they claim it was the alternator and the batter. i am sorry but a vehicle with 31,000 miles with proper maintenance and around 10,000 miles a year should not be having all of these problem. *tr
