Sitting at a stop light, my dashboard flashed battery saver. i thought it was maybe my key fab since i wasn't having any other issues. when i got home, i tried to lock and set the alarm with the key fab and it wouldn't work. i tried locking my doors manually, and it wouldn't work that way either. finally after several attempts (and thinking for sure it was the key fab) the car locked manually. my husband took the car out the next day to test it and heard a whining from under the hood and said battery saver was flashed on the screen as well, after he changed the key fab battery. he looked under the hood and said he thinks it is the alternator. did some research the next day and found out there is a recall on alternator due to be announced on 11/29/14. *tr

Battery save mode alert came on then abs light came on then vehicle completely died. battery will recharge then completely drain after multiple attempts to start vehicle. had battery checked & battery is still good. *tr

While driving my 2011 dodge charger on the highway going about 55mph, i started to hear a whiny or hissing noise coming from under the hood i continued to drive to my destination and all of a sudden a battery saver mode light came on the brakes got really hard to control the car then it just shutoff . with the brakes being that hard to press to control the car it was very hard to try to pull over the side of the rode, i final got the car at a complete stop . i waited for a while car still wouldn't start so i had relative come remove the battery to have it checked at auto zone which they said the battery was good just need a charge ,they charged the battery for me we got it back in the car the long enough for me to make it home. the next day went out to start the car still hearing the noise and the battery saver light was still on was able to drive to local part store they checked the alternator it was no good the guy told me the voltage that it was giving out my car was running only off battery so i had to rush back home before the car shutdown again in traffic which was dangerous to me and my unborn. i spoke with the dealership they told me sounds like my alternator is bad and to bring it in for them to check which is $97.99+ tax and total repairs would be around 600-$750.00 which is totally unaffordable. he also stated its a known issue by chrysler and they will begin a recall and notify customers at the end of november but when i call chrysler customer service they have no updates . this is the 2nd recall since i had this car i was thinking about the 2015model as my next car but the way things are going with dodge i think not. i just want my vehicle repaired under the recall guidelines and wish they could start it a little sooner please! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while driving approximately 30 mph, the steering wheel seized. the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond and the battery saver mode and check engine warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 67,550.

While leaving walmart the car started to make a whining loud noise that came from under the hood at the same time my car made a sound and battery saver mode came on. the lights flickered abs & traction lit up on the dashboard. the radio stopped playing and wouldn't come back on. as i started to slow down the car stopped completely. i wasn't able to move the wheel and the brakes wouldn't work. i called my nco for a jump but it didn't help. the car battery was completely dead. i notified chrysler and is waiting for a call back as it seems there will be a recall but it wont start until nov 28. being in the army i need transportation i hope chrysler don't think i am suppose to go without a car until they start the recall... this is a disgrace, i had a chevy mailbu from 2007-2012 and it never once had a recall let alone 5, worked like a charm! our next family car was going to be a 2014 chrysler 300 but now we will be looking back into chevy!!! *tr

Bought 2011 charger in july, 2014. on october 22nd, i noticed a funny smell, but could not locate. on october 24, my car started making a whining sound that got louder over next 3 miles. i pulled over to a parking lot, notice smoke coming from under hood. i lift hood and see oil leaking out of timing chain cover onto alternator. my car shut off, won't start, and battery saver mode light flashing, gauges acting weird, and lights dimming. after about 15 minutes, i started car to get home with it, drove maybe 2 miles and car started to melt down including wipers coming on, radio on and off, door buzzers coming on, instrument panel light on and off, lights flashing, air bag warnings, etc. this continued for next couple miles until a complete shut down right at the railroad tracks! i barely got out of lane. after about 10 minutes, i got car to start and made it over the tracks to a parking lot. my husband came, called dodge dealership, they sent tow truck that took it to dealership. service manager called us 5 days later, said it was alternator and they would fix for $850. my husband said no, we're not paying because of recall issued on october 8th, that they needed to repair for free with better quality parts, and that i needed a rental until my car was fixed, or they could by my car back because we don't feel safe in it. service manager denied recall, said it was media hype, and that he would have sales manager call us. we did not hear back from dodge service department until february 10, 2015, when they informed rental company they were not paying bill for my rental for last 4 months, even though my car still not fixed and in same parking space at dealership it's been in since oct. 24. i called and made report to chrysler corp. and now is a case under special investigations, which was supposed to be settled in 2 business days. still waiting! shameful! *tr

I own a 2011 dodge charger and recently had to replace the alternator. the battery light suddenly appeared followed by the abs and skid control lights. my vehicle shut down completely within a matter of minutes. i had no steering or brake capabilities. my repair cost to replace the alternator was $813.87. in addition to the alternator issue, my airbag light came on a week ago so i went online and discovered the airbag recall. upon contacting chrysler i was told my vehicle was not included in this recall although the dodge dealership confirmed this to be the same issue /repair as stated in the recall (airbag wiring harness needs replacing). *tr

Driving at highway speeds, lost al electrical followed by loss of power steering, was able to exit and park in a chain store parking lot. towed to dealership and diagnosed as a bad alternator. this alternator failure also caused the battery to fail. fortunate that it was close to a dodge dealership f or repair. investigation shows this is a common problem. needs to recalled. *tr

While driving down the highway every indicator on my vehicle dash lit up which caused some alarm and confusion for his driver. approximately 30 seconds later, the radio completely shut off and the phone charger in my outlet proceeded to blink. the rpm indicator went up to 3 and a jerking motion ensued. i proceeded down the highway into a left turning lane so that i may get off the highway. fortunately, my car made the turn and my destination was only about 1.5 miles further. while proceeding down a side street i noticed my headlights were out, but was luckily two houses away from my destination and coasted into the drive, noticing that i had no power. after turning off the car, i was unable to get any electrical response. all interior lights were of and the trunk would not open nor would the car lock. i plan on contacting the dealer as i have read several complaints against the 2011 dodge charger alternator. *tr

First of all i had to replace my battery last month which i thought was the problem, which cost me $185. i have now learned that the problem is my alternator. i was turning onto my street and my brake light and traction control light started blinking and i could smell something burning. i immediately pulled into my driveway because my 10 month granddaughter was strapped into her car seat and i was scared because i could smell something burning. i went to the trunk because this is where the battery is located could not smell anything there. i went and opened the hood on the car and could smell something burning. could not tell where the smell was coming from, but knew it was from under the hood. the next morning i went out to see about my car and nothing would work could not unlock the doors or anything. discovered it is the alternator due to the fact of placing a jump box on the vehicle and as soon as the positive was removed the car killed and would not function. i am just thankful that i was not on the highway when this happened because my granddaughter and i could have both been seriously injured. i had just turned off of highway 75 in plaquemine. *tr

On tuesday (10/7/14)night i was driving the car and the radio stop working and then i got the message of battery save mode, next day car broke down it didn't wanna start good thing i was not driving so, now im stuck with a $750 dollar bill thanks dodge *tr

I was driving home and a message came up that said battery saver mode. when i stopped at a red light and pulled off the car started to shut down. the car shut completely down but luckily i was next to a parking lot and was able to pull in. *tr

While driving, "battery saver mode" message came up. from here, i could smell something coming from under the hood. then the abs light and traction control light came on. was able to get it home, before trying to drive it again later after jumping it and it was completely dead. was able to finally jump it long enough to get out of my driveway and into the street so it could be towed. brought it to my dealership and they said it was a bad alternator. it is only a 2011 and has over 50k miles. *tr

Getting another known dodge issue fixed on my 2011, yes 2011 dodge charger at the dealership. they test drive it after replacing the valve cover gaskets and the car suddenly dies. the alternator went out. how can a 3 year old car with 70000 miles have a bad alternator?? that's unheard of. i have a car with 140,000 miles on it and have never had to replace the alternator. this is clearly an issue! the dodge dealership service department has even said this is a known issue and these cars are notorious for that. was also having issues with the headlight going out. got it fixed and less than a month later it was recalled. *tr

While driving on the street approx. 40mph, the "battery saver" message appeared on the dash display followed by the radio turning off, and then the "abs" light came on. after that the "traction control" light. then it all went downhill from here pretty fast. seatbelt light came on, a/c off, headlights dimming, then the dash went completely blank, then the car shut down completely, no power steering or brakes. the engine died and had total loss of all electrical systems. i was fortunate enough that i made it home where the car just died there.after the vehicle was stopped, noticed a strong electrical smell coming from the engine compartment. upon further investigation, the smell was coming from the alternator. battery was totally dead and really hot. could not lock/unlock doors. my complaint is that the alternator should not fail after only driving my vehicle for 44636 miles let alone on a 3 year old car. *tr

This is the third day in a row of getting battery saver mode message in ivic. first day it came on while i was driving at approx. 50 mph and experienced power loss (radio shutting off, lights on dash illuminating, loss of steering, etc.) within 5 minutes. pulled alternator (replaced both battery and alternator in may after same issue) and shop said it tested fine. battery also tested fine. put alternator and battery back in and car started up and drove for over an hour with no issues. next day while sitting in traffic car again went into battery saver mode and i experienced same power loss within a few minutes. called dealership after i parked at work and was told to bring it in right away. went back outside to see if car would start and there were no issues. car ran fine and drove fine for over an hour straight and the rest of the day. this morning i got the battery saver mode message while at a stop sign! i turned the car off and back on and car is still fine so far. i am afraid that something serious will happen while i have my kids in the car. *tr

Driving with my daughter in the car in heavy morning traffic and ivic message came on stating car was in battery saver mode. second time in 4 months this has happened (got alternator and battery tested and replaced the first time) so i immediately turned around to head back home. by the time i got near my neighborhood about 5 minutes later everything was shutting off and i could only go 25 mph with no power steering. about a minute or so before the ivic message i noticed a slight whining coming from my engine compartment. if i jump the battery, car starts but still in battery saver mode. *tr

I was pulling into the residential area that i live in at approximately 17 mph and my stereo shut off, and i noticed on the dashboard a warning message that read "power saving mode" then the abs light and the stability control light came on along with the lightning bolt came on, then the air shut off and it felt like the heater was turned on, the dashboard show the temperature being 105 and there was a weird smell that came through the ac vents. i was able to push the vehicle into my driveway and upon opening the hood of the vehicle you could feel the heat immediately and when attempting to jump start the car the car would turn on but then when the jumper cables where removed the vehicle's wipers began to wipe and the same issues as before began occurring. i called one of my friends that is a dodge technician and he said that based on the information i told him he was 95% sure that it was a bad alternator. this is a 2011 dodge charger with 66,000 miles. this should be recalled immediately to help those that have had this problem and to avoid any more owners have this problem. *tr

Loud whining noise followed by battery saver mode message. *tr

Driving approx 40 mph, battery saver mode indicator came on, car still drove fine. next day on way into work, battery saver mode indicator was still on, approx speed while traveling to work was 70 mph, once i arrived at work, i started to smell something burning, i popped the hood and noticed a distinctive electrical burning smell. tried starting car, and vehicle will not start. it wasn't till i looked at this website that i noticed all the other complaints referring to the same issue. hopefully the dealership is aware of this issue now and will be able to repair the component without issues. *tr

Started driving my vehicle from work. when all of a sudden my whole dashboard lite up with the "abs light, power saver mode, and the traction control light. while attempting to pull over the vehicle my radio power off and the vehicle began making a "whining" noise. the engine shut off by itself. i pop the hood and while raising the hood white smoke appeared and i could smell something burning. my sister was present the whole time she was tailgating me in her vehicle. let the car cool down and tried to restart it and the whining noise grew louder and upon starting it seem as if it did not want to start up but the dashboard was not lite up only the message on the dash about being in "power save mode". this was a scary situation for me and i do not feel comfortable driving my only means of transportation for me and my children. my sister gave me a ride home. i have contact the dealership and have an appointment for them to service the vehicle. *tr

I was driving my 2011 dodge charger when the battery light came on along with other lights. i also noticed the smell of burning wires. i stopped my vehicle and popped the hood. there was smoke coming from the alternator. once the vehicle was off it would not start again. i had two mechanics look at it and tell me that the alternator seized. i called dodge to see if they had heard about the issue and they seemed not to care. i was told that if there is a recall they would send out a notice. this is a very big issue if the alternator were to catch fire, car was in traffic, or even an electrical surge to the vehicle. *tr

2011 dodge charger. malfunction in starting. *bf updated 6/23/2015*js

Car was making a whining noise (only had the car for 6 months) so i took it to the dodge place to get diagnosed and paid for it. they informed me that my 160 amp alternator was bad. i drove the car home because i did not have the money to repair it. i barely made it home before i smelled a burning plastic like smell and the car began to make a different kind of noise. i have not drove it sense because it seems unsafe for my family and i and i don't have the money for the repairs at this time. *tr

Driving on the highway at 50 mph and saw the abs light and traction control light come on, then the car said battery saver mode. after that it died on the side of the road and nothing would come on. i had no hazards lights that would work. i was totally helpless. i thought the car was on fire due to the extreme smell of burning wires. upon further investigation it was the alternator that burnt up and put the car compltly out of service. dodge is aware of this problem but said it is not warrantied and is not a safety issue. i think being stranded on the side of the road with no way of warning other drivers with safety hazards is really a safety issue. thank god that is was not night time and that i was not on the interstate. *tr

Battery save mode i don't know what happen my car didn't want to start? i have had this car for about 1yr 1/2. checked battery levels they are fine. then started drove the car for 2 days then died when i parked the car and tried to drive it again. but will not turn over.when traveling under the speed of 30mph the car becomes very hard to steer and feels like its going to shut off. i don't know what is wrong with it. i can't drive it anywhere to get a diagnosis on it. *tr

While driving, the abs alert light flashed on and we smelled an electrical burning odor. a few minutes later the radio consul went blank. there was a message that stated "battery saving mode". then several minutes later, several alert lights began blinking on/off. i could run the window down but the automatic one-touch feature stopped working initially and a few minutes later, i could not run the window up or down. then the power steering went out as i was pulling into a parking lot. we smelled the electrical burning odor off and on during this entire time. i had the car towed to the dealership and was told the alternator had failed and had damaged the battery. *tr
