We have classified the 348 complaints from 2011 Dodge Charger about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while driving approximately 30 mph, the engine failed without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Alternator failed while driving vehicle with a child as passenger, approximately 4 minutes and 1 mile from home, resulting in a fire immediately after pulling over. fire occurred after vehicle stopped. dodge refusing to acknowledge any issues with alternator despite recall on same equipment for v6 engines.
My vehicle started making a whining noise and i started smelling something burning, the battery saver mode came on and the abs and i turned the vehicle off and popped the hood and my alternator is fried less than 60,000 miles on the vehicle and it won't start or i can't jump it. i was sitting in a parking lot and my car is still in that parking lot right now
My dodge charger last night would not start. i got it jumped and it started, i left the cables hooked up for a while then unhooked them. after unhooking the cables the car still would run but lights started popping up on the dash, i put the car in drive and the wiper blades came on, radio turned off, battery power saver came on and all the abs lights check engine light etc came on and the car just cut off. i did a little research and comes to find out that is the alternator and this is a common issue in the 2011 to 2014 dodge chargers.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while driving 70 mph, the alternator failed and caused the vehicle to stall without warning. the vehicle was towed to a dealer to be repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
Yesterday car was fine, no issues. this morning, i started my car and the touchscreen would not turn on, the radio will not work, but the ac was set to full blast, which i did not do. i could not turn the ac down or off. i tried turning the car off and back on, but the issue was still there. i also tried driving it a little, parking it back in my driveway, and turning it off and back on. 5 hours later i tried it all again, no radio, the ac is still blowing full blast and the touchscreen is still black and not operable, and now the evic is suddenly speaking in german and the evic steering wheel controls will not work. i am afraid to drive the car anywhere since i am not sure what else is not operating properly.
Car died at intersection with almost no warning. lost all power with in 1 min of stall. alternator is fried. came to a stop and within 30 seconds a battery light came on and said "battery saver mode". bells started to ding and the wipers turned on. tried to pull over and car stalled in middle of the road. turned hazards on and 1 minute later there was no power at all. when we tried to jump the car in order to close the windows and sunroof, the connectors started to smoke where the jumpers were connected. for a high performance car there is no alternator warning or gauge to determine if it is starting to fail. that only shows that this is a known problem and they do not want customers to see what is happening. car was running perfectly fine until that point.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. the contact stated that the battery warning indicator illuminated. the contact replaced the battery. in addition, while driving the vehicle, an abnormal odor entered the interior. it was determined that the alternator assembly was on fire. the fire extinguished on its own. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic for further inspection and diagnostic testing. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system), which addresses the 160 amp. the contact had an 180 amp and experienced the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
As i was driving i smelled a burning odor and also noticed my vehicle going into a battery protect mode...radio, air conditioner shut off. i immediately pulled off the road and looked under the hood and smoke was coming from the alternator. i entered my vehicle and the vehicle had no power at all to start it to move it or get it out of gear.
When leaving my house one day my radio cut off within 1 minute of the car being started. i pulled over, turned the car off and then turned the car back on and all sound went out again within 1 minute. i rode my whole trip with no sound. upon arriving to my destination i noticed my car was in battery saver mode (a mode that i have never seen). my battery has been bad before and i never received this message. within a week my car would not even start and had no electrical power. i attempted to do research on the battery saver mode and found out that this issue with my charger is actually a common issue and was a recall for the v6 chargers but not the v8s. the issue is the alternator and i am truly upset that the manufacturer has not created a recall to fix this issue. i have had several honda's and toyota's and never had an alternator issue. this is pathetic and goes to show how dodge/chrysler values their customers. i can honestly say that this will probably be my last dodge vehicle if the manufacturer does not solve this issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was diagnosed as needing a new alternator. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 46,841.
In august my car out of nowhere warned and activated itself for battery saver mode and not long after that same day the car lost all power causing me to loose total control of brakes and steering as well as unable to unlock my car to get out. imagine the fear i had especially having my fiance and daughter in the car with me. thankfully no collision occurred but what if? the battery died because the alternator needed power to perform itself. why? dodge charger r/t mopar 5.7 hemi. autozone charged my battery and checked it for free and diagnosed it as a healthy battery. when installing the battery back i turned on my car to diagnose it with the sensor reader the engine was shaking and the belt began to smoke up and whistling loudly right away turned it off but not before getting the code p60 but my car doesn't qualify for that recall cuz its a v8.. so if i would of died then would my car been eligible cuz u guys would actually listen that all dodge with alternator 160 amp are faulty. i don't got $$ to be throwing i fixed it once and the same dashboard light keeps warning me and before it kills my alternator i charge the battery doing this every time i have to drive my car cant imagine a girl seems to know much more than the dealership mechanics or whoever decides what car qualifies for recall. *tr
Alternator died out of no where at 56k miles and they don't want to take responsibility. i was driving on a busy street and all the lights went off and power steering went out , then power and rolled into a parking lot. almost got killed driving and car went crazy with all lights and now is dead.
I have a 2011 dodge charger rt. the alternator failed without warning as i was driving. i lost control of the car because the power steering was gone. there was no power in the car. there was a small electrical fire under the hood. all of these things are covered under recall p60/nhtsa 14v-634 for 2011 through 2014 model year dodge durango, chrysler 300, dodge challenger, dodge charger and 2012 through 2014 model year jeepgrand cherokee vehicles equipped with a 3.6l engine and a 160 amp alternator. the same behavior exists in my vehicle, which has a 5.7-liter engine. i believe this is an oversight by the manufacturer. if you perform a google search you will find that many people with the 'hemi' model charger for that year range have the same problem. i could have been killed if i was driving on the freeway. please look into this.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. the contact stated that there was a loss of power, the instrument cluster flickered, and the lights shorted out when the vehicle experienced an electrical failure. the failure recurred more than two times. the contact replaced the battery twice, but the failure continued. the contact stated there was a progressing burning odor during the failure. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). while pulling out to drive on the road, the vehicle had a sudden loss of power and was pushed to a repair shop. the mechanic diagnosed that the alternator assembly was extremely hot and may need to be replaced. the contact was not notified of nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v043000 (structure) and 16v352000 (air bags). the contact was to check with the manufacturer to determine if they may provide a dealer to diagnose the failure and to schedule the two recall repairs. the failure mileage was not available. parts distribution disconnect. vin tool confirms parts not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle went into battery saver mode without warning. the contact stated that the forward collision warning system, anti-lock braking system, and electronic stability control became disengaged. the contact stated that there was also an abnormal smoke odor coming from the front of the vehicle. the contact stopped the vehicle, opened the hood, and noticed that the alternator was on fire. the contact was able to extinguish the fire. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
While driving on interstate doing 65 mph (and once while doing 25 mph) my lights, stereo and speedometer went out and car speed decreased. all lights on the dash light up/flash then after a few seconds everything go back to normal. have happened several times while driving. and on two occasions the power steering fuses had to be replaced because they keep getting blown out. have had alternator exchanged at last recall. fearful that vehicle may stop in the line of traffic on the highway! have video of incident as it was happening. no pictures
Alternator smoking. electronic stability control light came on first, then a whining noise during the following week. then dead battery. when battery replaced, alternator started smoking.
Driving home from work 65mph, all lights on dash went out, radio went dark, a/c blew super hot air and blinded me and engine died and wouldn't restart. i had to carefully get off road on the hottest day of the ear to find smoke coming from 5.7l engine. small fire from alternator! almost hit 5 cars and almost got hit by 3. this is the same alternator from the previous p60 recall, but isn't covered because recall only affects 3.6l engines. why would the recall cover one but not the other?
I was driving on a two lane street and my car suddenly died while i was driving 30 mph. smoke was coming from my hood most likely from a small fire. the alternator died on me and my car died while i was driving. i almost got in an accident but i was able to control the car with no power luckily. the alternator also killed my fuses and destroyed the batter so all of that was repaced.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while driving approximately 40 mph, the contact heard a noise outside the vehicle. the battery, abs, and stability control warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was driven to a safe location. the engine was turned off and the vehicle failed to restart. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator would need to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 49,600.
Had a strong smell of electrical fire followed by battery light and battery saver mode, then shortly after they whole car shut down all the electrical systems and engine while driving on a 4 lane divided highway with my daughter in the car. upon checking found the alternator had burnt out and it was not charging the battery. upon changing the alternator and had no issues. however i do not believe a five-year-old car shouldn't need an alternator! not to mention after i first bought it they changed every computer in the car and every module in the car due to an electrical issue! i'm scared to parkette in my garage because of all the electrical problems!
I was driving, with my son in the car, and my electrical system completely failed. my windows, steering, brakes, and etc. stopped working while i was driving. behind me was an log truck fully loaded. thanks god there was just enough space for him to swurve around my car. this could have been a deadly accident. this all happen while my car was moving and i was able to get in a safe position before stopping the car. after it stopped, nothing worked in the vehicle.
I have the v8 5.7l rt charger that has a 160v alternator. this exact alternator was recalled in the v6 models but not for the v8??? my alternator went out with first showing signs of electrical problems, radio, lights and etc. after doing some research i have learned that this problem is the same with all the 2011-2014 alternators in the chargers. some people are having to replace these not just once but twice before the car is even 10 years old. can someone please look into these alternators?
There is a recall for 2011 dodge chargers concerning a wiring harness that effects the low beam headlights. for some reason, only certain models were included in the recall. my model (r/t) is not included in the recall but i'm having the exact same problem that is listed in the recall. the recall number is po8
Trunk latch stopped working and trunk light and trunk release button and no trunk ajar alarm lighting up on the dashboard. stationary. the dealer stated the latch was fried and had to replace the whole unit and button.
My alternator has gone out, and it is barley 5 years old. the recall is for alternators with a 160 amp. the 180 amp is doing the same thing, so when will the recall take place for this alternator. there are hundreds of complaints for this but, still no recall. the same manufacture for the 160 is the same for the 180. people are being stranded both literally and financially. i was driving when smoke started coming from my car stopped at o'reilly's and was told it was my alternator. battery safe mode was reading on the dash. i was driving on a city st heading to work.
Vehicle radio keeps going back and forth from radio to auxiliary this happens whether the vehicle is stopped or in motion. i also get a systems upgrade warning when i try to synchronize the cell phone using the vehicle's blue tooth.
My vehicle at 61k miles experienced this nearly causing a massive accident. i was driving at 55mph when the car began to loss power, the car down shifted from od to first cause me to slide. i recovered fortunately. to then loss all power and steering. this all occurred with in 30-35 secs chrysler group llc (chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 chrysler 300, dodge charger, challenger, and durango; and 2012-2014 jeep grand cherokee vehicles manufactured april 22, 2010, to january 2, 2014, and equipped with a 3.6l engine and a 160 amp alternator. in the affected vehicles, the alternator may suddenly fail. if the alternator fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. recall 14v634000 this is vin specific to 2011-2014 my vehicle is not in that group but has the same alternator
My 2011 dodge charger has been back to the dealer several times for various recalls. the first recall was for a defective wiring harness that caused fused to trip. the repair corrected the problem for a short time but the fuses continue to trip. the latest recall is for an alternator problem. the vehicle was operating properly until the alternator light came on. the vehicle lost steering and then all power after the alternator light came on. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. who is replacing the alternator. they claim the battery is "shorted" and must be replaced. they claim that battery is not included in the recall.
While driving my 2011 rt awd dodge charger on the freeway, at approximately 65 mph, all of the lights (including, the dash lights, the radio, the headlights, i am unsure if the rear running lights were involved) shut off momentarily (3-5 seconds). during that time i noticed a change in the steering, the wheel became stiff like the power steering was off. i let my foot off of the gas pedal but did not brake so i'm not sure if the power brakes were affected, but assume they were. it sounds a lot like the alternator failure recall involving the 6 cylinder models with the 160 amp alternator. (i believe this is the same alternator that was used in the r/t 5.7l hemi model) the power came back on and i drove the last 4-5 miles home without further incident. i am apprehensive about driving on the freeway now. loosing the ability to steer and brake at freeway speed could end in an accident. as an added note, when i arrived home i checked to see if there was any smell (electrical) near the engine, there was not.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while parked, the air bag and tire pressure warning lights illuminated. the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was operated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while driving 30 mph, the headlamps and all the warning lights on the instrument cluster illuminated. in addition, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the vehicle jerked. i had to apply force to the steering wheel. car was taken to dodge dealer ship i received a call and stated that the alternator and battery needed to be replaced. i replace both things and car still having same isue
My alternator went out around 45k miles in 2013/2014. i had it replaced; it has since been recalled, but dodge refused to acknowledge the issue when it was brought in even though there was a strong smell of something electrical burning along with a loss in electrical power. in 2016, at around 75k miles, fuel started leaking from just in front of the rear passenger-side tire. the gasket between the tank and pump was replaced. after the next fill up, the leak became worse. i had the car towed to another shop. when the tow truck driver was driving it onto the truck, gas was spraying downward with a good amount of pressure. the second shop also suspected the gasket due to the design of the fuel system. they also replaced it, but the leak persisted. after further investigation, the fuel pump assembly had developed a crack. i don't appreciate the thought of driving something that could catch on fire or worse. apparently, the fuel system was "redesigned" post 2011 models. dodge refuses to acknowledge that a fuel system issue can result in a major hazard. an oil change shop even commented on the strong gas smell and warned of the danger.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while driving 30 mph, the headlamps and all the warning lights on the instrument cluster illuminated. in addition, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the vehicle jerked. the contact had to apply force to the steering wheel. the contact independently diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. the alternator was replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 130,000. updated 04/20/16*lj
I have the following issues with my 2011 dodge charger se: 1 - the vehicle has "clicking" noise coming from the front passenger side when powering on the vehicle's heater. the noise lasts for about 25 seconds before it stops. this is a constant re-occurrence. the noise also occurs randomly, both when the vehicle is powered on and off. 2 - the trunk keeps popping open every time i start the vehicle. it also opens randomly throughout the day, even when the vehicle is locked and secured. the only method to open the trunk now is from the button inside the vehicle located on the dash. 3 - the braking system is sometimes hesitant when trying to stop the vehicle. i do not have official paperwork pertaining to these incidents as of current, however, i am finding that people who own this make and model in similar years are experiencing similar issues.
In october if 2014, the battery completely failed suddenly without warning, i had to replace it with a new one with more cranking amps! since that time the car has been hesitantly starting at times and would seem to lose power! the abs light came on and the cruise control stopped working. then on december 25,2015 the car began to lose power, the battery saver mode came on and the car completely stalled while driving on the highway at a speed of 45 mph! the alternator which is a 160amp and same model as those in the recall for the 3.6l engine failed completely! my car is a 5.7 l hemi!
As i turned off a main street towards a residential area, i got a low battery indicator on my dash and all of a sudden my radio turned off by itself and my car began to make a winding type noise and then my traction indicator and other indicators lit up on my dashboard. the car stalled and began to smoke under the hood. i could not turn the car on, close the windows or open the truck or even get it in a gear that i could push the car, it was completely locked up and posed a real danger especially if i had been on the freeway! i had the car towed and was advised the alternator needed replacement. i noticed other complaints with almost identical issues as what i experienced with my car. i don't understand why my vehicle is not on the recall list but it needs to be. my car barely has 50,000 miles and is only 4 years old.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, all the vehicle warning indicators illuminated and the engine failed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
As i turned to pull in my driveway, all at once the abs light and stability control light illuminated on my dash, the powersteering quit working, all at the same time the vehicle had begun making a loud high pitched humming noise with smoke coming from under the hood that had a very intense burning, electrical type smell. then the dash flashed that the car was in battery saver mode, subsequently dying altogether. upon having towed the car to a dodge dealership, the service department informed me that i needed to a) replace the alternator b) replace the belt and c) replace the battery because the alternator caused it to go bad. the total for all repairs will be $1224. i still don't have the vehicle back, but i've done extensive research online and learned that there is a recall (recall number p60) involving some 2011-2014 model year dodge chargers and their alternators. seeing as my vehicle is a 2011, and i am having this exact issue, i need to know why my vehicle was not included in the original recall. having alternator failure when my vehicle is only 4 years old is unacceptable, not to mention, it is incredibly unsafe to lose powersteering, abs and esc as the vehicle smolders for hours even after completely dying.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. the contact stated that there was low voltage on the battery, which kept being drained without warning. the battery was replaced by the contact, but the failure continued. also, the latches failed to function on the front passenger side doors. the dealer replaced both latches. in addition, the service stability traction control, service engine, air bag, and brake warning indicators illuminated. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v352000 (air bags), 16v043000 (structure), 15v467000 (air bags and seat belts), 14v643000 (electrical system), 14v101000 (exterior lighting), 13v118000 (air bags), and 12v497000 (electrical system, service brakes, air). the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000. vin tool confirms parts not available. parts distribution disconnect.
I have a 2011 dodge charger, and i'm having problems with the trunk it just opens for no reason. also the alternator went out, and they claim my car is not on the recall list but it has the exact alternator as the ones on the recall list. this is ridiculous.
I have a 2011 charger r/t awd and had the battery saver mode come on yesterday, along with a winding noise and electrical burning odor. after this the car would not start no more and the battery drained. just got a call from dodge it is my altanator gone bad. they have a recall with this issue for other vehicles but not mines and its the same type altanator.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while driving approximately 60 mph, the save battery, traction control, and the abs warning light illuminated. in addition, the contact mentioned that the front headlights became inoperable and the windshield wipers operated independently. the contact also stated that the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 75,000.
I was driving back home from work when my steering wheel locked on the freeway. all these lights came up on the dashboard from traction abs battery came on. luckily i could pull over i shut the car off and turned it back on but it did it another 3 times before i got home very unsafe.
Low beam headlight wiring harness, over heated and cause head lights to go out.
My 2011 dodge charger v8 has less than 27k miles and my alternator went out last week. $619.99 later, i did research to find out there is a recall but only on the v6 engine, not the v8. i think dodge needs to include the v8's in this recall as there is no reason my alternator should have gone out this soon!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge charger. while the vehicle was parked, the contact engaged the remote start, entered the vehicle, and depressed the start button. the vehicle independently accelerated. the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle failed to respond. the contact crashed into a wall and a parked vehicle. a police report was filed. the contact sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the contact also received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v467000 (air bags, seat belts) after the crash occurred. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge challenger. the contact stated that the engine stalled without warning and abnormal noises emitted from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number 13v118000(air bags) and a manufacturer service campaign for the engine timing chain and chain guide. however, the problem recurred for the timing chain. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact stated that the failure was directly related to nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). however, the vin was not included. the failure mileage was 34,000.
