We have classified the 63 complaints from 2006 Chrysler Pacifica about ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING into the following categories.
2006 chrysler pacifica: uses a quart of oil every 1000 miles, ongoing since purchase with 35,000 miles, current mileage 49,300 their are no leaks nor have their been any, no smoke from exhaust either. *tr
We bought a 2006 pacifica touring this car burns a quart of oil 1000 mile. its like clockwork, i have to check it all the time!!!! because it consistently burns oil. no vehicle with 37000 should do that we have a 2003 chevy with a v-6 with 137000 miles and it doe not burn near the oil if any. this need to be seriously looked at by chrysler my problem is at 37000 miles our warranty expired!! *tr
2006 chrysler pacifica fwd 3.6ohc with 31k miles 1) events leading up: to failure driving the car as usual; 450+ miles into a 575 mile trip 2) failure: the lifters started pinging/knocking. knocking noise became louder / more severe as driving continued. 3) lifter assembly is currently being replaced. other owners of this same model (different years) have posted their experiences of this failure (www.chryslerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7626). *tr
Own 2006 chrysler pacifica, local dealership reported front motor mount was broken but dealership told me it can be dangerous if not repaired but part is on backorder and there is nothing that can be done. after reading blogs this is a national issue. *tr
I have a 2006 chrysler pacifica touring with around 40k miles. these days i have heard the ticking noise from engine. i tried to fix this problem from many mechanics, but they can not fix it. the noise makes me crazy. i could not find anything wrong. furthermore, many mechanics could not find what is the problem. *tr
My 2006 chrysler pacifica started leaking fluid a few days ago. i took it into the shop and they told me that the rear motor mount is defective. the part is back-ordered. supposedly they say it is safe to drive. i am worried that if i am in an accident or have to go on a bumpy road that something serious could happen. the dealer said that this part shouldn't need to be replaced...according to what i have read it seems to be a problem with the pacifica having defective motor mounts in their cars. chrysler should be responsible for this, it is not a part that "normally" wears out (let alone at 32,000 miles). the worst part is that our car just came off of the 3 year warranty one month ago...ugh. *tr
Burns oil, brakes flutter , check engine light on no one can figure out why or how to turn it off i live in california so light on gives me an automatic fail on my smog test all of this is ongoing and has been for over a year. *tr
I drive a 2006 chrysler pacifica touring. i have had issues with the abs light coming on and off. it does not make a difference the speed i am traveling and when i come to a stop it begins to vibrate and i rearended the people infront of me. i have also had issues with my car stalling for no apparent reason. it is hard to believe that there is not a recall on this particular unit. i have called the dealership and also chrysler and they said no problems have ever been documented...they need to start checking this site and see that all of the problems are the same. *cw
on march 5, 2012 i was required to pay $95.00 for a full diagnostic to satisfy [xxx] ([xxx] corporate office). the service was rendered by capital chrysler 200 waterfield ridge place, garner nc 27529. the service rep [xxx] and service manager [xxx] informed me that the catalytic converter replacement looked used due to the rust on it and was causing other mechanical failures in my vehicle but would not confirm this in writing. i do not have an extra $1000.25 sitting around to pay for a part that chrysler is well aware of it being defective or used. chrysler settled a lawsuit in 2005-6 with the u. s. environmental protection agency for the defective catalytic converter. in closing, as a resolution to this matter i would like all repairs related to this matter replaced at no expense to me by a certified chrysler dealership of my choosing. after viewing the information on the following websites; http://www.daimlerchryslervehicleproblems.com, http://www.epa.gov/compliance/resources/cases/civil/caa/daimlerchrysler-fcsht.html, and http://www.lemonaidcars.com/secretwarranties.html i am even more educated and convinced that my 02 oxygen sensors and catalytic converter were defective initially when i purchased my vehicle and that it was replaced with a used and/or defective by [xxx] chrysler dealership. listed below are additional issues i have experienced with my car since owning it: 1.second replacement of catalytic converter and 02 oxygen sensors 2.head lights and tail light going out faster than any other car i have owned. 3.humming engine noise, less engine power than it initially had, 4.frequent replacement of the battery 3 times in5 years. is that normal? 5.sticky gas pedal, it is very hard to push down at times information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Broken motor mounts and axle. abs sensors had to replace battery and both headlights all before 50000 miles. 2006 chrysler pacifica is a safety hazard and i don't know why these motor mounts have not been recalled. furthermore motor mounts on 2 month back order unable to fix so putting more stress on my car needing more repairs. *tr
I bought my car january 31, 2009! there is a knocking in the engine and i have been told that it is the valve lifters. the dealer where i bought the car will not do anything about it. *tr
I am also having a problem with a ticking sound in my engine. took it back to the car dealership to fix, but they will not honor our warranty. i do not even think they know what it wrong with it. it is just becoming louder and louder and i do not know what to do. *tr
Car burns way to much oil could result in blown engine...should not have to add oil every 100 miles when there is no leak. *tr
I was driving down 436, when i felt my engine lift up, and slam down on the frame. turns out both engine mounts broke on my 3.5l v6 touring chrysler pacifica. i called the dealership, and the parts have been on backorder for over 5 months, and wont do anything about it, i cant even drive this $42, 000 piece of '!@#$% any more. *tr
My 2006 chrysler pacifica touring with the 3.5 l v6 tends to burn excessive oil. it appears that a lot of people with this engine seem to have this same issue. between my 3000 mile oil changes, my vehicle will lose 1-1.5 quarts of oil. there is no visible leaks and we are not seeing any smoke coming from my tail pipe. some websites have indicated the engine design being at fault. they say the engine gets too hot and remains too hot causing the oil to prematurely break down and turn to sludge. i started noticing the issue at about 60k miles. i'm now at 72k miles. i've contacted chrysler and they indicated that 1 quart per 1000 miles is nothing to worry about and within manufacturer tolerances. this is ridiculous for a 2006 vehicle. here are some sites where a lot of users have complained: http://www.astralautorepairs.com/forum/index.php?topic=2.0 http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f12caf4 http://www.chryslerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5440 the astralautorepairs site seems to have explained the cause of the issue and a non-conventional fix that hasn't been thoroughly tested. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. while accelerating at 25 mph, the engine made knocking noises. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they discovered that the engine mounts failed. new mounts were ordered in january of 2009, but the dealer stated that they would not arrive until march 10, 2009. the contact received the parts and is aware of numerous complaints regarding the engine mounts for this vehicle. he would like the manufacturer to repair the vehicle for free since they realized that there was a major defect. the vin was unknown. the current mileage was 54,000 and failure mileage was 50,000.
At just over 46,000 my heater quit. it started out as not working only when you were idle but would work when driving then it progressed to where it would only work at highway speeds and would go cold if you slowed or stopped. now it will not get warm at all. it has not been in the shop yet. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. while accelerating, the vehicle hesitated. the dealer stated that there was carbon build up on the throttle body. the cost to repair the failure was $200. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. the failure mileage updated 06/11/09.*jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the valve train assembly in the engine made a clicking noise and the pins in the rocker arms failed. the noise has been occurring since 2008. the contact stated that the engine could eventually fail and fall out of the vehicle. the dealer stated that this was a common failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 48,000.
Oil consumption problem with 2006 chrysler pacifica. my 2006 pacifica has 38000 miles on it and i am experiencing issues with oil consumption. i was told by the dealership that chrysler corporation believes it is 'acceptable' that a car with under 50,000 miles burns approximately 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles! this is absurd if you ask me! how can this be acceptable ? another problem is that i've read from other blogs is that chrysler does not feel that this is an issue that warrants further investigation and many times, the underlying issue for the poor oil consumption is not found until a major problem occurs with the engine, and the car's warranty has expired, leaving the consumer to suffer the consequences! this is not only bad business but has to be bad for the environment, if a car is 'burning' oil that fast, where is it going? no wonder the world is suffering from global warming if automakers like chrysler and ford find that burning oil this fast is acceptable!! please help! i know this must be a widespread issue. i've read many on-line comments of consumer suffering from this same problem with chrysler pt cruisers, pacificas, and others! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. while driving approximately 70 mph on normal road conditions, the engine stalled unexpectedly. the engine restarted and resumed normal operation. on a separate occassion, when the engine restarted, the contact noticed an excessive amount of white smoke and fumes coming from the exhaust. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing, but they could not duplicate the failures. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on a separate occasion for the same failures, but there was no resolution. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were unavailable. updated 04/15/09. *lj updated 04/16/09.*jb
2006 chrysler pacifica using over a quart of oil per week, there are thousands of same complaint all over the internet with the same response that i have received from chrysler dealers. "1 quart per week or 1 thousand miles is a perfectly normal oil burn off rate" this is a serious safety issue and financial issue especially involving a car this new and it started at 37,000 miles. the car is not leaking oil, it just disappears and from other stories i have read it says that the piston rings do not fit the engine cylinders. correct me if i am wrong but couldn't this problem cause engine failure or fire. not to mention leave a person stranded after the engine blows. *tr
I purchased a 2006 chrysler pacifica in may 2007 w/ 20,134 miles on it. it started a tapping noise at the beginning of aug 2008 (apprx 40,840 miles) and went into the shop on 08/04/08. the dealership called me on 08/08/08 to p/u my vehicle and reported that the noise was due to my using non-mopar oil and filter (they changed the oil and filter that day). the car was still making the noise when i started it but the mechanic informed me that "well it sounds better than it did, you just need to drive it for a few days". i left the dealership and drove it the 35 miles home. by the time i got home the noise was worse than ever. my husband hauled the car back to the dealership 08/11/08 (all tow drivers picked by roadside assistance wanted at least $100 over the $100 daimler warranty pays). the car sat there for a week and when i tried to p/u a rental car 08/15/08, the service manager stated that my car was drivable even though they had just ordered new lifters. he also told this to daimler so they would only pay for 5 days rental which of course did not cover the full time they took to complete the repairs on 08/22/08. the noise was gone when i got it that day. on 09/06/08 the noise started again and is now in the shop (a different dealership this time) for the 3rd time in a month for the same problem. *tr
We bought a brand new 2006 chrysler pacifica (in june of 2006) and, with only, 29,000 miles, it already has an internal engine failure and the air conditioning has broken down (possibly a computer chip error). chrysler refuses to accept the warranty claim and is trying to get us to pay for it all. the total charges are now over $2,000. *tr
My chrysler pacifica 06 has a lifter problem and have heard of other pacifica's with the same issue. believe a recall should be issued on this and chrysler is refusing. *tr
Lifter failure starting at low mileage. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal was constantly sticking. the failure only occurs when the vehicle is at a complete stop and the accelerator pedal is depressed. the contact must apply maximum pressure on the pedal in order for the vehicle to move. as a result, the vehicle takes off very quickly. the dealer stated that there was carbon build up on the inside of the throttle and suggested that it be cleaned. the current mileage was 41,500 and failure mileage was 40,000.
2006 pacifica i have had 10-12 instances where my vehicle has stalled during a left hand turn. initially they were far enough apart that it didn't seem that bad and they appeared to only happen at slow parking lot speeds. my most recent 2 events were much worse: one happened with my children in the car driving on a mountain road and had to do a hard "hairpin" left turn that almost resulted in our driving off the face of the mountain!!! latest event occurred while making a left hand turn through traffic on a divided highway. the vehicle once again stalled during the left turn at about 40 mph while crossing traffic. i narrowly avoided being hit and almost hit another vehicle head on due to the failure. please help us.. this is unreal! *tr
2006 chrysler pacifica - throttle sticks for first 1/4" of travel. this causes rapid acceleration in stop and go traffic. this occurs more often in warm or hot weather. chrysler has not repaired issue. mechanics have not been "able to reproduce events". *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact noticed that the display on the instrument panel would sporadically fail. in addition, the vehicle would stall without warning. on one occasion, the piston rod failed and caused the engine to stall while idling. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the battery, alternator, and computer (icm). shortly after the repairs, the failure resurfaced. all of the remedies have been insufficient in correcting the failures. the failure mileage was 27,922 and current mileage was 59,999.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving various speeds, the vehicle began emitting steam from under the front hood. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the water pump was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 45,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. while driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled and the engine surged. the dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure. the vin was unknown. the current mileage is 7,500 and failure mileage was 3,544.
While making a slow left-hand turn into a shopping center, my 2006 pacifica touring awd stalled without a warning of any kind. i was not able to steer (no power steering). i had to coast out of the lane to the curb. i was then able to restart it without an incident. i was fortunate that this did not happen on the main road. my pacifica was bought new in february '06 and has approx 9300 miles. i had about 3/4 tank of gas at the time. there have been zero problems with this car until now. i take it to the dealership tomorrow, but i fear that they won't be able to 'duplicate' the problem. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 20 mph and making a left turn over a speed hump, the vehicle stalled completely without warning. the vehicle was able to be restarted immediately, and displayed no further issues. a service dealer was notified, who informed the contact that since there were no illuminated warning lights prior to the incident, there was nothing that could be done. the vehicle was not immediately taken in for service. updated 9/27/2006 - when the vehicle was taken tp the dealer the technician performed tsb 1803905; update flash. *nm updated 08/14/08.
No injury, death or collision. 2006 pacifica engine stalled when making a downhill left. just purchased 2 weeks ago with 13,000 mi. *nm
(1) own a 2006 chrysler 2006 pacifica awd and have experienced the vehicle stalling on three separate occurrences. the issue has happened while making a left hand turn. first occurrence was in april with approximately 2000 miles on the vehicle. the other two happened on 8/18 and 8/19 with approximately 4000 miles on the car. (2) consequence could have resulted in an accident with oncoming traffic, but we made it out of the way. (3) reviewed edmunds forum and found the issue was happening with other pacifica owners and no fix was found. called suburban chrysler in farmington hills michigan and they were not aware of any issues. they read about it in the paper and have not seen any vehicles in for this issue. *nm
Car stalled when making a left turn. was able to restart engine right away. engine was well warmed on a 90f day. for now, i don't think there is anything that the dealer can do. i did an internet search and found that other owners are having the same problem. i also saw that action rq06-002 was reopened for the same problem. i just wanted to add myself to the group. *nm
My wife was driving vehicle around town on a short trip (<10 mi). she had come to a complete stop to perform a "michigan" turn (turning left using separate turn-around drives located in the median). when she began to accelerate to perform the turn, the car lunged but did not move. her initial reaction was that the car was in neutral, but further review showed that the car had stalled (identified by the "dummy" lights lit up on the dash). she put the car in park, restarted it and proceeded. this is our first experience with the "stalling" problem with this vehicle. gas tank was greater than full but not completely full. vehicle mileage: 7788 miles. vehicle had probably not reached full operating temperature. *jb
While making left turns into traffic or left "u-turns" the vehicle stalls putting my family in extreme danger to oncoming traffic. i have taken it to a "5 star" chrysler dealership in greensburg, pa and they told me that they can't fix it because there is no error code associated with it. this condition is extremely unsafe and needs to be corrected immediately. *nm
2006 pacifica engine stalled while taking a left turn. coasted to a stop. restarted the engine without incident. this is the second time this has happened. *nm
Vehicle stalled without any notice or warning. *nm
Chrysler pacifica 2005 all wheel drive, while turning a corner and hitting a slight dip the car cut completely off. lost steering and all i could do to avoid hitting another car in the side. *jb
2006 chrysler pacifica with 13000 miles stalled making a left turn at a very low speed. there was no warning the vehicle was about to stall. i was turning left in a residential area, driving around 10 miles per hour or less, when i let off the brake to make a left turn, the steering while tightened up and my dash lights came on (the mil malfunction indicator light did not come on). i put the car in park, turned off the engine, and restarted the vehicle. arrived at my destination few minutes later. an hour later when my family and i were leaving to go to another store, the same scenario; i was turning left to enter the parking area when the steering while tightened up and my dash lights came on. i put the car in park, turned off the engine, and restarted and did not stall the remainder of the trip. it was 90 degrees outside and sunny, and i had more than 3/4 of a tank of gas. vehicle was manufactured 9/05. this is the same problem that many people have reported with 2004, 2005 and 2006 model year pacificas. this is an extremely serious issue that concerns us, obviously for safety reasons. please help. *jb
My 2006 pacifica 2wd touring is stalling out with no warning. this has happened twice and i have only had this vehicle for three months (bought it brand new). this last time i was turning left into a shopping center. after yielding to oncoming traffic i turned left and proceeded through the intersection and my pacifica stalled out with no warning again. this almost caused a serious accident. it gives no warning at all that it is about to stall out and the only way to know is that the steering wheel locks up and the car stops. *jb
I was waiting to make a left turn at a traffic light. the light turned yellow, and i promptly made my left turn so as not to hold up the cars on my left. i made it through the intersection, and the car stalled. i was able to shift to neutral and immediately restart the car. i had the ac on, and had three fourths of a tank of sunoco 89 octane gas. i always run 89 octane per the owners manual. *jb
Engine stalled on two separate occasions within a week while making a slow left hand turn with foot off the accelerator. it started again immediately and haven't had it happen in more than a month. mileage on vehicle at the time was ~ 11,000. *jb
2006 pacifica has major knocking noise. sounds like a lifter and after checking online i found that several other people with this year model have had the same problem. *tr
2006 chrysler pacifica with 1650 miles stalled making a left turn at a very low speed. there was no warning the vehicle was about to stall. i had just come off a major highway where i was traveling approximately 50-60 mph for about 10 miles. i exited the highway and slowed to about 3 mph, when i let off the brake to make a left turn, the steering while tightened up and my dash lights came on. i put the car in neutral, it started right up and did not stall the remainder of the trip. it was 60 degrees outside and sunny, and i had more than 3/4 of a tank of 89 octane gas. vehicle was manufactured 9/05. this is the same problem that many people have reported with 2004 and 2005 model year pacificas. this is an extremely serious safety issue that obviously chrysler hasn't resolved. *nm
Incident #1: 3 days after purchasing the vehicle, i noticed there was something wrong with my brakes. i took it in and was told that my rotors needed to be replaced (the vehicle had 30 miles on it when i bought it). i was told all the rotors were warped. incident #2: approximately 4 weeks after purchasing, my left headlight went out. not a major problem, but still an inconvenience...especially when car is brand new. incident #3: i was making a right hand turn out of the parking lot when vehicle stalled on me. my steering wheel locked up and i glided across 2 lanes of the road (amazingly without hurting myself or others). no warning at all. vehicle started back up just find...but very scary. took it into the service and was told that my computer needed to be "flashed" incident #4: abs light came on out of nowhere and i felt a "fluttering" of the brake pedal when pressing the brake. i was told the sensors needed to be replaced and they were. incident #5: received my vehicle back from repair on incident #4 on tuesday, vehicle is back in the shop today (2 days later). fluttering from the brake pedal again. unsure what the outcome is...still in service. fortunately, none of these incidents have caused me, my family, or others any injury or harm but each of these incidents (besides the headlight) could have resulted in serious injuries or resulted in deaths. *nm
2005 chrysler pacifica - stalls when performing slow turns and low speeds. almost caused a severe accident in traffic. *jb
