We have classified the 86 complaints from 2006 Chrysler Pacifica about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I had my car in park, waiting in line at a drive thru. when i tried to put it in drive, it would not shift out of park. i called aaa and the tow truck operator came. upon hearing the issue, he immediately told me he knew what it was because "he deals with this all the time with 3000's and pacificas...and it's a recall issue). he lifted the trim around the gear box and showed me that the "red clip" had broken. i have not seen a recall for this issue, but i need to know if chrysler is honoring this defect, which i've been told is a huge problem with different chrysler vehicles. *tr
I was in the bank drive thru with my car in park. i went to put the car into drive and it wouldn't shift out of park. i called aaa and when the tow truck man arrived and i told him what the problem was, he told me he knew exactly what had happened...the red clip inside the gearshift box had broken. he said it happens all the time to pacificas and 3000s and it's a factory recall issue. he was able to get it into gear for me so i could drive home, but it is broken and won't shift out of park (without trying his temporary "fix"). i came home and went online to search the recall (because i don't remember ever getting a recall letter) and i can't find anything. based on what this driver told me, this is an ongoing issue with certain chrysler cars (including mine) and should be a manufacturer's recall. *tr

The vehicle was purchased june 11, 2013 and had the rear passenger tire replaced due to unfix-able flat tire. the dealer had me take vehicle to peerless tires co. the tire was replaced with wrong size and different brand of tire. traveling during thunderstorm approximately 3,5 weeks after purchasing vehicle; the computer appeared to lock when vehicle slipped on pavement as awd attempted to engage causing loss of steering and power then skidded off the road. i made claim through my insurance and had vehicle inspected by local shop, and i had my mechanic look to see if damage to vehicle was noticeable was not handling correctly after accident. when accelerates or decelerates the vehicle will lunge forward. took vehicle to peerless tire co. after mechanic pointed out the wrong size and model of tire on rear passenger side of vehicle. after accepting fault wanted to take vehicle to [xxx] paint and body to pay for the repairs. when the estimate was being done and vehicle was on lift...[xxx] and mechanic pointed out the whole motor carriage had completely rusted out and corroded. they had not seen anything like it. took vehicle back to dealer and explained this issue. had to go ahead with insurance claim and wait for adjustors to determine fault of accident.the vehicle is totally unsafe to drive, feels like the engine is tipping forward when accelerating or decelerating. after researching this issue im shocked and appalled that 2 previous model years have same issues which are not being addressed for the 2006. i don't want this vehicle repaired i want out from under it, since it was sold unsafe and is a recurring problem even after having motor mounts replaced and undercarriage treated or replaced. i expect more from mopar period. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Since i have owned the vehicle (2013) there have been problems with getting the car running again. first while in motion the vehicle would tremor (in the front) before shutting down, particularly if going above 25-30 mph. when the car was shut off by key ignition and turned back on it would start again. codes for oxygen sensor would come up, had that fixed. problem began again a few months later. multiple times while driving on the highway/open road the sensors on the panel all lite up and the car shut down. i had the alternator replaced twice for this issue; thinking that was the problem. prior to the second alternator rebuild/replacement the fuel gauge would fluctuate after reaching half a tank. most of the time it would read empty when the tank was half full; or empty when the tank is full. i noticed the gauge would drop if a turn was made or the car hit a bump/pot hole in the city street/highway. i attempted to replicate conditions to get the gauge to go back to normal, this did not always work.occasionally it would wave around while driving. the car began to read code for fuel system issues. had this tested, fuel system was fine; yet problem consisted. with a half full tank, the car would repeatedly read empty, not allow any additional gas to be put into the tank (would cut off at pump as if tank were full), and shut down while driving in different road conditions as if there were no gas in the car. right now the gas gauge continues to read empty when there is gas in the tank, i have trouble filling the tank as it cuts off the pump repeatedly not allowing new gas to be put in, the car cuts off often while driving.

2006 chrysler pacifica. consumer requests reimbursement for a fuel pump replacement. *smd the consumer stated prior to the replacement, she was not informed or notified of a recall, until a google search revealed the recall. also, in february 2013, the catalytic converter was replaced at a cost of $800 and the brake system was replaced at a cost of $500.00.
Noticed a couple of times that the car hesitated when merging on to highway or accelerating on the highway. today however, it did that in town, going about 35 mph and then stalled, check engine light came on and smoke came out from under the hood. now it won't even start. *tr

We have had multiple issues with this vehicle since we purchased it. first issue was the cv boots that had completely disintegrated. this occurred 62,123 miles. next issue that is still occurring today and deeply concerns me is that the accelerator pedal sticks from time to time. not sure what causes that to happen but it scares the living day lights out of me on a weekly basis. shortly after that the check engine light came on and the panel read gascap. well we bought a new gas cap and the issue was not resolved. since then we were told it was the fuel pump that needed to be replaced. again, more money out of our pocket so unfortunately we have not had the repair done since we don't have the money to pay for it. next and biggest issue off all is that while driving down our street i heard a noise that concerned me. when i got home there was a tapping under the hood, the tapping has been continuous since then. the original mileage at that time was 85,625 miles. after multiple trips to several different mechanics it has been diagnosed as a tapping lifter. well this is a very very expensive repair. so easiest thing for us to do is to trade in our car....not the case. our car now has no trade-in value because of the lifter issue. i am beside myself and i firmly believe that these are all issues that chrysler should address under warranty. the maintenance on our vehicle is done on a regular basis to avoid issues like this. i feel quite cheated by chrysler and wish i could request a refund for all of the repairs we have had to do while owning this vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the vehicle lost power and stalled without warning while driving 40 mph. the contact was able to restart the vehicle but was unable to shift the gear into drive or reverse. the vehicle was towed to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure and the current mileage was 70,000.
The gear shift on the center console will not come out of park. i went out to start the car to go to work and the car would start up, but i couldn't shift out of park. i removed the trim to expose the quick release button and that didn't work either. after researching the issue, i've found that a lot of people with chrysler pacifica's have experienced this issue. i called a couple of dealerships and they had just received cars that very day with the same issue. i also learned that dodge's have been experiencing this same issue and a recall has been issued on them. i am writing so that this issue can be investigated further and a recall issued. *tr
While in reverse in parking lot, car stalled causing loss of braking power and vehicle rolled into another parked vehicle. since incident, when vehicle is placed into reverse, vehicle immediately stalls. also, motor mounts have broken and this appears to be a big issue with the pacificas. *tr

Vehicle gear shift stuck in park even though brake is depressed. tried rocking the vehicle back and forth to see if it was stuck in gear, no change. i conducted an internet search for this problem and found that several chrysler and dodge products have this exact same problem. cause: a small pink piece of plastic that has a spring attached to it, which is a gear locking mechanism, tends to break at about 40-60 thousand miles or sooner. there are no chrysler recalls for this item. the piece seems to cost about $2.00 for chrysler to make however, one will pay $300-$400 or more for the dealer to fix. takes minutes to replace if you know what you are doing. one can find the part online and replace with metal so that it will not break again for about $50. chrysler complaint line states that they will not fix unless nhtsb files a recall complaint. then i may get reimbursed for my cost. the pink plastic piece can break at any time leaving the driver stranded anywhere at any time, e.g. the drive thru., parking structure at night, etc.. *tr

This last friday, the 11/18/11, was the last incident where it finally stalls completely and i have to move out of traffic. for over a month now, the gas gauge has dropped to zero (when i know i have gas in there) so i have to keep up with that on the side, the electrical trip mileage gauge says gas cap, checked it, kind of jittery, where it would jerk and not accelerate on the road, until this last friday when i turned a corner, and it just stalled. started it up, and went down the road and as soon as i accelerated in oncoming traffic, it stalled again, pulled off the road towards oncoming traffic and sat for a moment, gentleman stopped to help me, and said it might be overheating, to turn my heater on and leave it running since i still had several miles to go to get home and everyone was gone at the house. so i turned it back on and heated it up and away i went, got about a mile and it stalled again, so i went on the shoulder and coasted for about another mile and started it up and coasted it again, 'til i got to our small town and started it up, went to take a corner, and it stalled on the corner, so i coasted a bit again, and started up, and went down about a mile, put into neutral (so not to use gas and accelerate) around the corner and went down about another mile, put into neutral again, took the corner, back into drive and down the road to the house, took another turn in neutral, and coasted into the drive way. i've noticed that there is a recall with 2006 chrysler pacifica for the fuel pump and control module with power train. according to www.motortrend.com recall id#57629 powertrain:at:control module (tcm, pcm). it is sitting and want it fixed as soon as possible before me driving with the kids in the car and i can't make it out in an intersection because of a problem with chrysler and their parts/recall. otherwise, i'll look into legal action. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. while driving approximately 40 mph the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated the engine control module failed. the engine control module was replaced. after the repair the transmission control module light illuminated on the instrument panel and the mechanic stated the transmission control module had to be replaced again. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 06v432000 (power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm)) that may be related to the failure. the dealer was made aware of the failure and stated the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000. updated 09/28/11*lj updated 10/07/11*jb
While driving my pacifica at 60 mph the vehicle suddenly jerked and the check engine light came on and the engine was revving high so i slowed down and it was tacking at 6000 rpm while only going 40 mph. i stopped and turned the engine off. when i restarted it shifted normally. a few days later it did it again. then it did it twice in one day. i took it to chrysler and they said there was internal damage and they wanted $1000 just to drop the transmission before they fixed anything.this occurred when the vehicle had 80000 miles on it. when it only had 36000 miles the engine threw a rod and i had to spend $3000 for a new engine. i've since learned that pacifica's burn a quart of oil about every 1000 miles. i would have checked the oil more often had i known this. i traded it in rather then replace the transmission. but not on a chrysler. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle restarted after fifteen minutes. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 109,000 and the current mileage was 111,000. the vin was unknown.
On april 13, 2011, while driving vehicle at approximately 10 mph and while making a left turn, vehicle suddenly stopped abruptly resulting in a vehicle stall. all electrical power was lost, along with engine stalling. restarted vehicle and proceeded to drive again when it then suddenly started to drive rough for approximately a couple of seconds, as if it again wanted to stall, but didn't. after this, the vehicle drove normal. took vehicle to pepboys on the same day and they diagnosed a 420 and a 700 fault code. on thursday april 14, 2011 took vehicle to alliance chrysler dealer in ft. worth, tx. i explained what had happened and mentioned that my vehicle experienced the same symptoms described in the pcm/fuel pump recall issued against 2006 pacificas. i also mentioned that this recall did not cover my vehicle which they confirmed. however, i raised concerns on whether the recall applicability needed to be expanded to cover other pacificas. the dealer has yet to figure out the problem besides telling me that they confirmed a 420 and 700 fault code which they stated would require me to replace the catalytic converter and the transmission shifting solenoid. i questioned whether the sudden stall of the vehicle could have resulted in a misleading fault code. dealer technician mentioned that the stall could have been caused by a faulty transmission solenoid. i mentioned that my vehicle had shown no indication of a transmission problem with the gear shift. besides, if a faulty transmission shift solenoid is capable of causing a vehicle stall, then this vehicle has a serious design flaw since a stall while driving could result in serious injury or a catastrophic accident. dealer mentioned that mechanic was unable to replicate the failure and would continue to investigate the problem and get back to me. as of april 20, 2011, dealer has been unable to explained why the vehicle stalled. i suggested they perform the 2006 pcm/fuel pump recall fix. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and repaired according to recall 06v432000 (power train: automatic transmission: control module (tcm, pcm). however, when she received the vehicle back, the check engine light was still illuminated. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the purge valve needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint; she was awaiting a response. the current mileage was approximately 45,000. the failure mileage was approximately 44,800.
All motor mounts on our chrysler pacifica broken after only 60000 miles!!! this condition could cause an unknowing motorist an accident. very dangerous condition. also same vehicle had broken gear shift stranding my family for hours and could not be repaired without changing the unit. poorly designed and a constant drain on our finances. government owned??? *tr
2006 chrysler pacifica with less than 32,000 miles on it, had a stripped cv joint that caused the left front axle shaft/cv joint to fall of while i was making a left hand turn. thankfully i was making a turn and not traveling on the interstate at 70 miles per hour. i was barely able to get the car off of the road and out of the way of on coming traffic. *tr
Drove my 2006 chrysler pacifica to the convenience store drove normally went in did business came back out to leave and the shift lever would not move, had to be towed. tow truck driver says he sees this 4 to 5 times daily with both pacificas and 300's, had to have car towed to dodge for repair of a plastic clip that broke, push key override would not work. *tr
Driving my car, no noticeable problems. i pulled into my driveway and i saw a lot of fluid on the driveway. i was extremely concerned, checked all my fluids which were ok. took the car to the dealer and they couldn't find a problem. i then started noticing the car riding "rough" and idling rough along with a 'banging" when starting or stopping at redlights. took the car to the local mechanic who was not told anything about these issues (there for unrelated item) and was informed i have a bad motor mount. he asked if i noticed 3 specific items.. uh.. yah... all the things i told the dealer! waiting for him to check over the entire car right now to see if anything else is wrong. (problem with the heat and i think with my suspension). also, the heat will not stop blowing on the windshield (defrost) barely gives off heat to feet etc. got so hot it melted the plastic on the dashboard where the defrost emits from...dealer "can not duplicate the problem" but yet all i do is turn on the car, sit there 5 minutes and try to turn the heat to anywhere other than defrost and it's blatantly obvious as you can't breathe from the amount of hot air still blowing in your face off the windshield. currently have local mechanic looking at it. previous local mechanic found issue but wouldn't tear the dashboard apart to figure out how to fix it. recommended dealer as i have an extended warranty. dealer charged $88 dollars to look at car for all above issues and said nothing is wrong ... rather "can not duplicate the problem". bull! *tr
I have a 2006 chrysler pacifica. everyday it stalls on my wife and kids. it sounds like the recall they they have on the chrysler pacifica on the fuel pump module and power train module. i contacted the chrysler corporation on the issue and they said that the vehicle 's vin number was not onthe recall list. i told them how can they control which vehicle fuel pump module and power train module is bad. i told them is going to cause a deadly crash one day. all they do is give me the run around.what can i do? thanks for quick response. *tr
2006 chrysler pacifica -- axle clanks when i lift my foot off gas pedal when slowing down in traffic and then put foot on gas pedal at any speed.. took in to chrysler dealer and they said need new axle which will cost $1000 plus tax approx. said this is common to pacifica's and my problem was not as loud and as bad as other pacifica's they have seen and worked on. i don't see why i have to pay for this repair when this is "common to pacifica's". in fact my own mechanic looked at it and said the very same thing --- why wasn't vehicle recalled. what can i do? i don't have $1200 to fix this. and if chrysler mechanics say this is "quirk of the pacifica's" , then why is the repair on me? i'm worried this will get to the point where i cant drive the car. *tr
One rocker arm (lifter) went out in july 09. we replaced the faulty rocker arm. just two weeks ago, all rocker arms went out, including the one that was recently replaced. this has caused my 06 chrysler pacifica to not turn over and not start. both the battery and starter have been tested and are fine. all rocker arms are now being replaced at a cost of over $1000 with only 43k miles on the vehicle. when we asked the dealership why the brand new rocker arm (lifter) had failed, they said it was because the entire mechanism with the rocker arms has a faulty design. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and was able to be restarted. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump, water pump, cam shaft sensor, catalytic converter, oxygen sensor, timing belt, pvc valve, and multiple other parts needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. the contact was aware of nhtsa campaign number: 06v432000 (power train), but the vin was not included. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently and the check engine light illuminated. also, the speedometer failed to show the correct speed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed the speed sensors needed to be replaced and the transmission control module was faulty. the speed sensors were replaced, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 75,000.
At 40,000 miles car started making ticking noise. took it to my personal mechanic and he determined the lifters needed changing. replaced the lifters then again at 60,000 miles the car had the same problem. this time i had a certified mechanic from work call a friend at the dodge dealership and he acknowledged that chrysler was having a problem with the lifters and that there was a repair kit available through chrysler. i have had the car back for 2 weeks now with no problems so far. the mechanic visually confirmed that the retaining pins of the shaft were indeed sheared, thus blocking the oil galley and the flow of oil to the lifters. my opinion is why would chrysler come out with this repair kit if there was no wide spread problem. *tr
Upon hearing ticking noise, we took our 2006 chrysler pacifica into the dealer. we were told that this is a common problem caused by a broken retaining pin on the rocker arm shaft. when the pin breaks, the shaft can spin that may block oil passage the rocker arms (which causes the ticking noise). the rocker arm shafts were replaced by the dealer. now, we are having problems involving the pedestal kit. please look into this problem. i believe it should be recalled. *tr thank you, nicole schilt
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving at any speed, after accelerating the vehicle would shake and lunged forward before the vehicle stalled. the engine warning lights were illuminated at all the time. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. the dealer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 126,000.
After 1 hr of highway driving, turned in parking lot, car made strange noise on turning, seemed to not want to move forward. parked veh for the day. upon return to vehicle tried to back out of spot, car made same noise, stopped, checked all fluids, checked under car/in engine. nothing visible, drove vehicle across parking lot, heard loud noise, parked again, visible trail of fluid and puddle under vehicle. called for tow. tow truck driver backed vehicle up to get on flatbed, several large metal pieces fell from under vehicle. veh towed to dealership. service at dealership determined that power transfer unit had disintegrated, metal housing and gears came apart from inside out, disintegration also destroyed transmission with metal pieces and filings. vehicle has approx 50,000 miles-mostly highway miles. 2005 pacifica has 70,000 mi warranty, the 2007 has lifetime power train warranty. this 2006 has 36,000 mile warranty. chrysler customer service will not assist with cost of repair or stand behind their vehicle. what did they know in 2006 that made them not warranty their vehicle or its parts past 36000 miles? repairs are in excess of $5,000 on a 3 year old vehicle due to manufacturer defect. *tr
Failure of cv joint resulting in a right front broken axle. the vehicle had just been to the dealer and had a 30,000 mile service which supincluded inspection of cv joints. the actual mileage was just under 30,000 at the time, which seem early for such a serious problem. *tr
I bought a 2006 chrysler pacifica. it has been in the shop 3 times now since i go it a year ago. the first two times were for the same thing. it was a rod and lifters. this last time, i was driving down the highway and all of the sudden my wheels turned to the side and then my car skidded to a stop as my tires turned sideways.! i could have been killed as my car was not controllable and almost flipped over. i was told by the tow truck driver that the rocker arm broke causing the drive shaft to fall then the axel broke. the tow truck driver as well as the mechanic at the dealership said that this should not have happened. *tr
