Car stall when making sharp left hands turns. it has done this two consecutive days in a row. i searched the vin on chrysler and there are no open recalls. the found that there was a recall for this on 2005 pacifica's but i am unable to find out if mine was ever corrected. *tr
Add this to the ever-growing stack of complaints about the engine cradle rusting out on pacificas which fall outside the dates chrysler specified in their service bulletin. clearly those dates were dates of assembly, not of frame manufacture, because many pacificas continued to have improperly rustproofed frames put in well after the dates chrysler identified as problematic. this is an issue they knew about and tried to hide, and when they were discovered they tried to downplay the extent of the problem. that is criminal, as this issue is potentially extremely dangerous! please do something to force them to address this fault before someone dies! time is running out, as these vehicles are old enough now to where many of them are going to start breaking because their owners are completely in the dark. protecting the public is your job, and this is a huge, and dangerous issue! help us, please!! *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the vehicle over heated and the temperature gauge warning illuminated. the contact mentioned that while having the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic, the vehicle caught on fire. a police report was not filed and no injuries were sustained. the vehicle was destroyed. the failure mileage was 73,000.
My check engine light came on and the car was vibrating and making noises, had it checked by a mechanic. i was told my engine was about to fall out of my car due to rusting. the total cost of repairs was more than i wanted to spend however the mechanic said it wasn't safe to even drive off the lot a mile down the road to trade it in. so i had no choice but to pay to have it fixed. this could have caused a serious accident and had i waited a day later to have it checked out myself and my kids could have been seriously injured. chrysler doesn't want to take responsibility for not properly coating the engine cradles and some of us live in the snowbelt!!! *tr
While driving from canada (montreal) to largo (florida) the chrysler pacifica 2005 started to loose power and speed (highway 75 near brooksfield, fl). i could not drive the car on the shoulder as a temporary cement wall was on the right hand side for construction. a few second later, as the construction site was over i pulled my car on the shoulder and 3 cars had already stopped (they saw the fire underneath my car)and the drivers waved at me to stop. i tried to stop on the shoulder but i didn't have any brakes on the car. fortunately, the highway was going up so the car stopped by itself and started going backwards. i turned the steering wheel to be able to stop in the guard rail and then fire was coming out from the motor (out of the fenders). the 3 person mentioned to me that the fire was coming out from underneath the motor while driving so that was the reason they stopped to indicate the fire. my mother in law (80 years old with pace maker) and myself had only a few seconds to exit the car because black smoke was already in the car. i lost everything in the fire (medication, clothing, passport, wallet, etc...) as my mother in law lives in florida, i am filing this complaint for her and for myself also. i am a health and safety coordinator and i wish that this situation never comes back in the future. fortunately, i am still alive to explain this incident. *tr
Upon taking car in for routine nys inspection was informed of severe engine cradle rot. estimated repair $4000. car has less than 114k miles and is only 9 years old. i cant afford to repair and even though i have opened a case with chrysler they are not willing to help me. chrysler admits issue when they offered extension of warranty on 2004 and 2005 models but refuses to issue a recall or fix the problem at their cost. owners are stuck with a costly repair option . chrysler should be addressing this safety issue . *tr
While having my oil changed my mechanic called me over to show me the rusted engine cradle. i have researched and have found this to be a problem with many chrysler pacifica 2004-2005. i contacted chrysler and was told there was a recall but only for vehicles built from feb 2004-march 2004. if so many people are having this problem then why is it such a small time frame? the same issues still apply to the vehicles manufactured outside that small window. is the safety of the consumers whose vehicles were manufactured during that month time frame more important than the hundreds of people who have evidence of the same rusting of the engine cradle? when i purchased this car, i did so for safety and quality and now feel like both are lacking. *tr
I purchased this vehicle not to long ago. then when having my brakes done, my mechanic pointed out the huge rust holes in the engine frame of my car. he said it wasn't safe to drive the vehicle because the engine might fall out. i contacted chrysler but the said there was no recalls on the vehicle. *tr
Engine cradle was found to be rusting out. saw issue on news, websites, etc. *tr
Chrysler 2005 pacifica has significant engine cradle and other undercarriage rust issues. today at my auto repair shop i took several photographs of the rusted engine cradle, undercarriage and other suspension areas with heavy rusting. called chrysler care 1-800-247-9753 and they kindly told me there was nothing they can do to assist in the repair cost. numerous reports online of repairs being selectively reimbursed by chrysler. how many complaints are required for a recall to be issued or is a class action developing for this issue. thanks. *tr
When taking the car for an oil change, it was pointed out that our engine cradle was very corroded and rusted through. we have since discovered that this is a known issue with this year, make, and model of car. however, our car was manufactured outside the very narrow range of dates for which an extended 10 year, 150k mile warranty on the engine cradle was made available. the body shop has quoted us $4000 to repair the vehicle, and said the car is very unsafe to drive in it's current condition. given that this issue is so common for this car, it is only a matter of time before someone is killed driving one. chrysler should be forced to issue a recall on all 2004 and 2005 pacificas in order to repair this problem before it is too late for some family. *tr
9/23/14 took my pacifica to shop to have ac fixed once on the lift they informed me that the subframe was rusted out and my car was unsafe to drive. so scared to drive vehicle, i was informed that it would cost 3000. to 5000 to fix. i don't have that kind of money being retired. chrysler informed me that my car was not built between feb. and march 2004 so they wont cover it. how ridiculous is this that they don't stand behind there products. are they waiting for someone to die from this error. *tr
The cradle that holds the engine is rusting away. *tr
On 9/10/2014 my wife was in a minor fender bender and our 2005 chrysler pacifica had to be taken away on a flatbed tow truck. upon inspection of damage to our front end from the accident the body shop informed they found that our vehicle was unsafe to drive. in addition to the damage and upon my shock and horror they found our passenger side subframe/engine cradle was almost completely rusted out!!! the cost to repair/replace the subframe and labor will be $1500!!! i am in the process of having them replace it because my wife and 2 small children are in this suv daily. i'm thankful that this was found now before it was too late and something god awful would have happened. i'm in the process of talking with chrysler and am looking for assistance in this matter. thank you for your help. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while the vehicle was being inspected for routine maintenance, the mechanic informed the contact that the engine was rusting and the engine cradle needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,429.
While replacing a set of tires at a local shop, the service manager informed me of a rusted engine support frame. he also stated the danger of the engine falling out of the vehicle. the vehicle has been well maintained at the local chrysler dealership with maintenance and inspection reports every 3000 miles. never once has this rusted frame been reported at the chrysler dealership! the last service report during an oil change stated, "checked over everything looked ok". the dealership has reported other maintenance and repair issues but never this one. is chrysler trying to hide this potential safety problem? i've been a long term owner of chrysler products and never had a problem with a rusted-out engine support. the car currently sits in our garage with my wife refusing to drive the vehicle because of the potential safety issue. *tr
Took my vehicle in to have a small radiator leak checked out and an oil change as i am planning a trip from sw michigan to chicago in a week. much to my surprise, shock and dismay the mechanic told me that my cars frame and engine suspension is badly rusted and the engine can fall out of my car at any given time. as i drive my car for my job and also help take my grandchildren to and from school i am sickened by this news. then to find out (i bought my car used) that chrysler did a recall but then rescinded the recall really made me angry. i am now stuck with a car i cannot/should not drive and there is no way i can afford to purchase another vehicle. i will never buy a chrysler product again. shame on you chrysler to not stand behind your product. *tr
I have a 2005 pacifica. the car was in for body work, when a mechanic noticed severe rusting on the frame. he stated that the engine, could fall through the body frame! i did a google search and found hundreds of complaints about the problem. there is a story from a tv station in florida covering this story. http://www.nbcmiami.com/investigations/some-chrysler-pacifica-owners-say-they've-had-dangerous-corrosion-problems-with-the-popular-minivan-243624441.html. this is a engineering failure according to my mechanic, who stated they did not included enough drain plugs. my daughter drives this car and i contacted chrysler and they say it is past the warranty. this is unacceptable an engine should never be able to fall out of its mountings!!!!!! *tr
The engine cradle has collaped and the motor has dropped about 3". it will be falling out of the car soon due to corrosion on this part. this is the exact part that the 2004 had issues with. the car is now unsafer to drive and needs an estimated $2200 repair. there is an apparent design issue as this car is in excellent shape otherwise. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted and functioned normally. the problem recurred on three occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the motor mount needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 147,000.
I recently took my 2005 chrysler pacifica in to have the air conditioning system repaired and the mechanic called and told me that the engine cradle was rusted out and the car was not safe to drive. i did a quick google search and discovered that this is a known problem with pacifica's. according to the information that i found, chrysler originally distributed a letter indicating that it would cover 2004 and 2005 models only to send out a later letter drastically reducing the number of cars that would be covered on the extended warranty. it's apparent that this is a widespread issue. in 1998 ford recalled 2.6 million vehicles for a similar issue. chrysler should follow suit and do the same thing. *tr
Our 2005 chrysler pacifica has the motor mounts and the engine cradle rusted out to the point where it's integrity is compromised because it's so bad. the recall chrysler has set forth for their recall of tho does not cover my vehicle because it was made a different month, but i have no idea what chrysler changed after they issued the recall. it is a design flaw that allows water to sit and continually rust and corrode and chrysler will not cover this. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that he was informed during routine maintenance that the engine cradle was corroded. as a result, the vehicle depeveloped a crack on the right hand side. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for repair. the manufacturer was notified of defect. the approximate failure mileage was 109,000.
I took my newly purchased 2005 chrysler pacifica to my mechanic to get the brakes serviced, and was told that the engine cradle was completely rusted out and the engine was in danger of falling out! my mechanic was extremely concerned (he is a friend and an honest mechanic who runs a very reputable repair and body shop in ottawa, ks). i called chrysler before i purchased the car to see if their were any recalls on it, and was told their was not. the car is otherwise in perfect condition, no damage and very little wear inside and out. it was clear to my mechanic that this was due to some defect in the vehicle, and should not happen on a 10 year old car that is in as good of condition as mind is with only 110000 miles on it. to have a new engine cradle put it, it would cost over $4000. i cannot afford that, so we are putting in a reconditioned one, inspected to make sure it has no wear or rust on it, and we are painting and putting additional undercoating on it as to prevent any such recurrences. after looking online, i have since learned this is a widespread problem, and is effecting a large number of owners, and is much more widespread than chrysler is willing to admit. i called them, and my car is supposedly not one effected in their 3-4 week window of production, yet it was completely rusted to the point of possibly causing a serious and even fatal car accident. *tr
There was a recall from chrysler made for 2004-2005 pacificas dealing with the engine cradle. they eroded and rusted through. thousands upon thousand of cars were recalled. they than revoked it for a 2 month recall span. this problem has been deadly and fatal and has affected thousands of families. chrysler refuses to fix the warranty that was organically wrote and sent out. they refuse to fix or acknowledge that the problem exist and is deadly for these people who drive the pacifica as their " family transportation". in the past month my 2005 pacifica has stalled out, died, had all roaders, breaks and control arms replaced. all new tires and now i find out my engine cradle has rusted out to where's its not drivable. now the radio stopped working, the air wont turn on if blinkers are all, the entire electrical body has crapped out and chrysler refuses to fix the problems they set the original recall for. there are thousands of people driving these cars with kids, what will it take for someone to fix this issue? death of thousands of kids? multiple accidents? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated to respond and then surged forward. a whistling noise emitted from the engine. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 16,000.
My whole engine cradle is rusted and corroded through. my mechanic said it is dangerous to drive, it is appears to be a known issue with chrysler. i was not warned of the problem by chrysler. *tr
Had vehicle in for brake service. technician showed me (with pictures) the problem with the engine cradle rusting out in multiple locations. in my research of this issue, i found numerous other incidents of this problem with little or no assistance from chrysler. this is a huge safety issue and could lose the engine at any time causing possible severe injury. would like chrysler to step up and get the recall out to all pacifica owners. *tr
2005 chrysler pacifica. consumer writes in regards to engine and headlight problems. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle stalled twice, within the last 3 years. both times, he was making a hard turn, when the engine stopped. he wa able to maintain control of the vehicle and re-started it, without any problem. the vehicle was inspected by a mechanic, who found nothing wrong, other than throttle body build-up, which he cleaned. also, the headlight would intermittently go out. the bulb did not seem to fit securely in the harness, which caused a short and eventually the bulb blew out. the problem seemed to be more prominent on the passenger side. the driver's side bulb was less than an ideal fit, but there were no problems with it going out. the bulb was replaced numerous times, along with the wiring harness. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while traveling 25 mph, the engine light illuminated and the temperature gage indicated that the vehicle had overheated. the vehicle started to shake and the air conditioner fan stopped working. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fan motor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 185,000.
Undercarriage corrosion as reported by other owners. *tr
I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica that has engine subframe rust - completely rusted - undrivable, extremely dangerous. chrysler issued a warranty extension in 2010 for all 2004 and 2005 pacificas for this problem and then rescinded it stating that it would only fix those that fell within a 6 week build date - feb 23-march 31, 2004- which mine did not. however, it has covered others - whom i know personally - at 100% after constant appeals and letters and a story which aired on channel 5 chicago news on january 24 and april 15, 2014. i have contacted channel 7, 5 and 9 and will not stop until this is fixed. it upsets me that this is not getting fixed when there is an obvious problem - one in which chrsyler took responsibility for and then decided not to take responsibility. *tr
Advised by local mechanic in december that rust was developing on undercarriage of engine. after numerous news reports and reading of info on the internet of similar problems called chrysler customer care. i was told since it was not in the window of the cars that they are extending the warranty on rust to 10 years or 150k miles there was nothing they could do for me. if they do extend the warranty in the future they will let me know. *tt
Reference tsb 13.001-12, 2005 chrysler pacifica suspension service bulletin, and nhtsa action number 10044109. a letter was sent to some 2004-2005 chrysler pacifica owners that the front engine cradle and suspension mount frame was prone to corrosion problems. the warranty was extended to 15 years or 150,000 miles to owners in states that use road salt, cold weather states. we live in pennsylvania, which is considered a cold weather state. our pacifica was inspected in april 2014. we informed the station that we were experiencing some vibration in the front end of the vehicle. we were informed that the cradle assembly and mount was rusted through and because of safety issues they had to be replaced before it would pass inspection. the cost was $2,702.08. the vehicle had 122,638 miles, under the warranty threshold of 150,000. when we learned of this situation we called chrysler. they informed me that only pacifica's manufactured between a certain time frame were covered. they could not tell me the time frame, but our vehicle was not covered. to make matters worse, the new cradle assembly is exactly the same as the original part. no corrective actions have been taken to prevent the rusting. there are other cases similar to mine on the internet. state dmv?s are failing these vehicles for safety issues, they are unsafe to drive. how can chrysler ignore these serious safety issues? i am requesting full reimbursement of $2,702.08, plus request action be taken against chrysler so that all 2004-2005 pacifica's are repaired before serious accidents occur, if they haven't already.
While getting service at local chrysler dealership, was notified that the engine cradle was rusted through and the vehicle was not safe to drive. *tr
We took our car in to locate a possible leak and while investigating the leak, our repair shop noticed a golf ball size hole and rust on the passenger cradle arm and reccommended us not to drive. after researching i have found we are not the only owners of the 2005 chrysler pacifica with this issue. *js
I noticed that something was looking weird about my car and something seemed hanging really low. i went to have it looked at right away and they told me that my cradle was rotting and it needed to be fixed or my engine was going to fall to the ground if i did not get this taken care of. i have had nothing put problems with this car. it seems like once i fix one thing something else goes wrong. i have spent over 3,000 dollars on this car so far to fix it and now this. i am beyond irritated. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the engine cradle was completely corroded. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 120.000.
My mechanic informed me that the engine cradle on my car is completely rotted out and is a serious issue which is a fatality hazard. he gave me a copy of chrysler "extended warranty period" written notice for this issue for pacifica model years 2004-2005. i called them and they stated that i'm not covered because my car was built in 8/04 and not between 3/04-4/04. the notice does not state that the cars need to be built in a particular month. their statement makes no sense to me and i think they are lying. all of the signs of their notice is what i have have been experiencing for over a year, the "corrosion resulting in drivability vibration and/or shake." could you please help me i love my car but can't afford the repair cost and they need to stand by their awareness of the defect and written warranty coverge notice. the notice is labeled as "[xxx]". thank you. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I took my 2005 chrysler pacifica in for a oil change and safety inspection and was informed that my subframe/ engine cradle has rusted through and is no longer safe to drive the car is less than 10 years old...this is very unsafe as i drive this car everyday with 2 kids any help would be appreciated. the service agent working on my car said we were lucky it has not fallen out yet and had a serious accident. *tr
I am seeing a lot of complaints regarding rust and corrosion issues with the engine cradle on 2004-2005 chrysler pacificas. please go back to the main frame page and click on the "service bulletins" tab under the 2005 chrysler pacifica recalls list, then click on the "associated document" in the first service bulletin labeled : service bulletin no.: wb-d-10-34 component(s): engine nhtsa id number: 10045080 it reads that, in an effort to demonstrate its commitment to your continued satisfaction, chrysler group pacifica's llc has extended the warranty for the front engine cradle to 10 years or 150,000 miles (whichever occurs first). this warranty coverage applies to chrysler pacificas model years 2004-2005. please take your vehicle to your local chrysler dealer where it can be inspected and replaced free of charge if necessary! if you have already replaced this component at your cost, then you are entitled to a refund; but must submit a photo copy of your invoice and receipt to: chrysler customer assistance center po box 21-8007 auburn hills, mi 48321-8007 you may also call our customer service center for more information at : 1-800-247-9753 (8am - 8pm est. monday-friday) (9am - 5pm est. saturday) *tr
I took my 2005 chrysler pacifica in to get my inspection done yesterday. the mechanic put the car in the lift to check it, then he showed me where the engine cradle/subframe had corroded to the point where you could stick your fingers through the hole. i did some research and there are hundreds more like myself with this problem. chrysler knows about the problem and does nothing about it. they recalled a minute portion of the same make and model with the same problem made in the same year. there are hundreds, if not thousands, with the same problem. may have no clue that they are driving a ticking time bomb, in which the engine could drop out at any time while they are driving. this car is supposed to be a family vehicle. i drove my two small children in this car for a long time, not knowing it could have wrecked at any time. is it going to a serious injury, or worse, death for something to be done about these rolling death traps. i contacted chrysler and they said there is nothing they could do because my vin doesn't fall in the recall range. yet, my car is the same year, make, and model. something needs to be done before some is injured or dies. i know there are hundreds more concerned people with same problem as me and something needs to be done. *tr
After an oil change i was informed the engine cradle was rusted through and was dangerous to drive. i called the local dealership and was told that my car didn't qualify for the extended warranty. now i have a car that is dangerous to drive. the cost to fix it is more than it is worth. thanks chrysler, i will never own another of their vehicles. *tr
I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica that has failed inspection due to extensive engine cradle rust. this vehicle's body and undercarriage is immaculate except for the engine cradle "k frame". i have contacted chrysler and they are unwilling fix the problem because it is 20k miles over the power train warranty even though there is no other rust issues on the vehicle. after doing research, i have discovered that i am not alone in this battle! i am within 8 months of the previous recalled vehicles from chrysler for this same issue and i believe that chrysler should extend their recall as this is a potential dangerous issue that is growing with this specific model vehicle. *tr
While starting to accelerate going onto the expressway, the vehicle just stopped. there was power from the battery but the car just stalled. it was horrible winter weather with extreme cold temperatures so the car was towed to a reputable nearby auto repair. it took two days but they found the problem to be a bolt on the water pump that had sheared off flying into the engine which in turn destroyed the timing chain and the entire engine. i called chrysler in an attempt to find out if this had been another issue with the 2005 pacifica model but their response was asking me if we had it towed to an authorized dealer. the engine had to be rebuilt which was our only cost saving option but the mechanic that worked on the car stated he had never in all of his years in the business seen a bolt shear off of a water pump inside the engine and it should never have happened. chrysler told me to take the defective parts to an authorized dealer who confirmed that it shouldn't have happened but when i called chrysler back with the findings from the dealer, all they said was that they would make note of the problem and present it to a committee for review. while this vehicle was still under warranty we had to have the back end seal replaced 3 or 4 times which kept breaking until chrysler finally agreed to replace the whole back end without explanation as to why it kept happening. there seems to be a problem with this make and model which i believe could case injury if the vehicle were to stop in heavy traffic without warning. we were out of state when this happened and our son was returning the vehicle to our home ( an approx. 10 mile trip from west bend wi. to jackson wi) after having new tires put on it at our request. *js
I took my 2005 pacifica in for an oil change and was informed there was a major problem...engine cradle/crossmember bar was rusted through and had holes in it. i took it in to the chrysler dealership and was given an estimate of $2514 for parts and labor to make my car safe to drive. my vehicle was manufactured 9-04 so i missed that very small recall window. so much for a safe, family car...just hoping the manufacturer makes this right some day. good luck to other pacifica owners. *tr
I was just told by my mechanic investigating a "clunk" in my front end that the engine cradle in my pacifica is so rusted you can poke your finger through it. i see on the internet that chrysler is aware of the issue and refuses to issue a recall. i have never had a car where this has been an issue. this is a ticking timebomb. my mechanic said i and my family were at risk of dropping the engine while driving. *tr
The front sub frame that holds the engine has a massive rust hole on the passenger side it started off the size of a golf ball and has turned into a 8 by 3 rectangle i have owned the car for two years and this is the result .there was a warranty extension on this vehicle but they only considered it from the date mfg 2/23/04 to 3/31/04 a six week time frame as the vehicles affected by it. i experience vibration while driving. mine was mfg 10/04. *tr
When i start my car from a parked position, i put the car in reverse and it stalls out . it throws the car in neutral . i also ended up in a ditch . i had to leave the car at my job. unable to drive it home from work. my mechanic will come and tow my car to his shop. *tr
